Starting Reports Server

I installed 9iAS Release 2 on Win2k a few weeks ago, and only went to start Reports today. I noticed that the status of the reports server is listed as 'unknown' in Enterprise Manager - when I try to start it, it simply remains stopped.
I followed the instructions to edit targets.xml, and changed the password to what I specified on install. I also ran rwpagadd.sql as the portal user, but it gave me a few errors and quit:
ERROR: Registering Reports Provider
ERROR: Reports Page Could Not Be Created
Everything else I've tried works fine, though discoverer and wireless also show up as 'unknown' (I haven't tried them yet).
I can't find anything in the release notes or in this forum regarding this, so I would be very grateful to anyone who can assist me.
Thanks in advance,
Alex Valys

hello,
a way would be to use a soft-terminal like VNC to use as diplay target. but be aware that there is no certification from our side yet. if you have problems with this soft-terminal you have to reproduce them on a regular x-terminal in order to get support to work in it.

  • Start reports server

    hi
i've made some experience with forms and now have to configure reports (9i web).
i read a lot of documents from otn with no success.
i'd like to start reports server as servlet under win2000.
as 2.1.2 in the docu said:
i tried http://test_oas:7778/reports/rwservlet and got the 'Servlet Command Help - page'.
2.2 verifying the reports servlet and server are running
i typed: http://test_oas:7778/reports/rwservlet/help which displayed the same page as above.
    then i typed:
http://test_oas:7778/reports/rwservlet/showjobs?server=rep_test_oas which redirects me to 'http://test_dbs:7777/pls/orasso/orasso.wwsso_app_admin.ls_login' where i get a 'page not found'.
    then the rep_test_oas.trc sais this:
    [2003/7/27 5:42:37] Debug 50103 (RWSecurity:isPortalConnected): s_connection:oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleConnection@682406
    [2003/7/27 5:42:37] Debug 50103 (RWSecurity:isPortalConnected): s_connection:oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleConnection@682406
on the EM-Website, ther is a system-component called reports:rep_test_oas whichs state is down. what does this component mean? when i start it, i get the message 'started' but the state is still down.
    can someone help me?

    used your example-code.
    still get a frm-41214 and a 41213.
the errormessage when 41213 occurs is: "could not connect to reports-server rep."
the strange thing is that my server is called rep_test_oas. i've never defined a rep.
    here is a rwEng-0 part:

  • Having issues with starting Reports Server on RHEL5 after installation

Hi, I installed Oracle Application Server 10.1.2 on RHEL, ran the patches to move it up to 10.1.2.3. I've also put a couple patches in addition.
When I go to my application server console, I noticed everything is started up but my Reports Server. I've tried to manually start it via the browser, and it tells me it starts up. But when I go back to the main page of the application server console, it shows still as down. I've tried to log onto the server and issue a statement to start the reports server. However, it still will not start.
I followed the steps made in Metalink Document 564174.1 and did everything that was asked.
Anybody got any ideas on what might be causing this?
The only error (warning message) I received during any part of the installation process was the OPMN Process Manager didn't start. I went ahead and continued (not sure if that's my problem). But that was the only issue. And like I say, the forms server seems to work fine. No issues. I've set up my application and I can call all the forms in my application. It works.
    Regards,
    Chris

One thing is that the status in EM console is showed ad Stoped and indeed it's stoped and other is that the EM is not able to see if the process is up. Lots of times I had problems like this where the Reports Server is showed as down but the proc exist and the service is attending request.
Have you try to test report server running a sample report?
Have you check is exist a proces for the report server?
Have you use the rwdiag.sh -findall to see if the process exists?
    Hope this helps
    Greetings.

  • SSRS Report queries begin running slowly, have to stop and start report server to restore performance

We have had a production issue crop up twice now where reports begin running slowly seemingly at random.
When this happens we can see from running SQL Profiler that the report queries are taking an extremely long time to execute.  The same queries when run directly in management studio run quickly.
Initially I suspected parameter sniffing, and tried using OPTION (RECOMPILE) in the reports, as well as clearing out the particular query from the plan cache and running the SQL in SSMS to try and get a better plan etc but no amount of jiggery pokery by
me could get the queries to run any faster.
The really weird thing - is that stopping and starting the report server via the reporting services configuration manager instantly cures the problem.
I'd really love to know - why this might be?  Is it something to do with the report server closing and re-opening its connections to the database? That's the only sort of thing I can think of...any ideas? Anyone? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    LucasF

    Hi LucasF,
In your scenario, usually we can monitor the execution log in Report Database. If you run below query, you can get the results how long the report takes to render (TimeRendering), how long to process the report(TimeProcessing) and how long to retrieve data
from Database(TimeData). You can check the starttime and endtime to know the total time for executing a report.
    SELECT TOP1000 *FROM[ReportServer].[dbo].[ExecutionLog2]
More details information, please reference to similar thread below:
Steps for troubleshooting a slow SSRS 2014 server
    Troubleshooting Reports: Report Performance
In SQL Server Reporting Services, a job will be created by SQL Server Agent if any of the following processes is underway:
query execution on a remote or local database server
    report processing
    report rendering
To cancel a job that is running on the report server, we can cancel the job directly or reduce the report execution time-out value in the SQL Server Management Studio and then will stop query execution. Please refer to the steps below:
Open SQL Server Management Studio, and connect to "Reporting Services".
Under the Report Server node, right-click on the "Jobs" folder and select "Refresh". Then, right-click on "Jobs" again and click "Cancel All Jobs".
Right-click on the Report Server node and open the "Server Properties" dialog.
Click the "Execution" option, and set the "Limit report execution to the following number of seconds:" to a much smaller number. After this issue is resolved, this configuration should revert to the previous state.

  • Libjvm.so error when starting reports server

I am running on SUSE Linux with AS Forms and Reports 10g.
I having difficulties when starting a new reports server that outputs to a display, and I would appreciate any suggestions as to how they can be overcome.
I am running on a single PC so have configured the system to use the namingservice.
    namingservice.sh 14021 &
    Naming Service Started Sucessfully
    after this
    > rwserver.sh server=test_server batch=yes
    > rwdiag.sh -findAll
    This correctly shows the server.
However if I omit the batch=yes part of the server launch then the error occurs.
To set up the display I used
    > DISPLAY=:0.0; export DISPLAY
and to verify that the display was okay I used
    > xclock&
    But
    > rwserver.sh server=test_server
    gives the following error

I have managed to resolove this problem by updating the installed JDK. I installed jdk-6u6-linux-i586-rpm.bin (downloaded from http://java.sun.com/)
I then updated the LD_LIBRARY_PATH in $ORACLE_HOME/bin/reports.sh to agree with the installed JDK locations.

  • How to start Report Server automatically in developer suit 10g

    Hi all
I have an application implemented using Developer Suit 10 g forms and reports builder.
For this application, the first report to be printed after booting the computer takes a long time (around 5 minutes)
when printing any more report (even if it was the one printed before ) it takes a little time, this means that the first report made the report server start.
I rebooted the computer, but this time i started the report server manually using this command :
    <strong>rwserver server=report_server_name</strong>
Now, the report is printed after a little time, It's OK.
<strong>Is there any configuration to start the Report Server automatically in developer suit 10g after the computer boots ?
    </strong>Please help

    No answer ?

  • Can't start Report Server

    Dear all,
I have an envirnment that have Both of the Database (11g) and the Application Server (10gR2) are installed in the same machine. i installed only forms and reports components from the application server and the forms are working well through the web. my problem is that i can't make the in process report server up and runing as it's alwlyes dowen and when i chose it from the web and choose start, the job finished but it still down.
in addition to that i failled to use the comand RWSERVER to create new report server and aloyes the message "Consult the installtion guide for how set up an run this program, so, how can i make the report server up and running as my reports not working.
    Thanks,

The EM Console is not the best way to find out if your reports server is up and running, I sugest you use the command rwdiag -findall it will show you the reports servers up in your server, as well if you want to create a new reports server, you have to use *$ORACLE_HOME/bin/addnewservertarget.sh new_servername* as well this command will create an entry in opmn.xml in a way that you can check the status of this using opmnctl status command.
    Hope this helps.
    Greetings.

  • Can't start reports server on Windows Server 2003 SP1 Error code 13

    Hi,
This morning I figured how to start the rwserver using the command, rwserver server = repsrv. This works using XP pro physical machine but now I am trying to perform the same task on a Windows 2003 virtual machine.
    I have used the line:
    rwserver -install repsrv.
To add repserv to the list of available services in computer management. This has appeared as an avaiable service and so I click to start it, unfortunately every time I do I get the error message:
"Windows could not start the OracleOraAppServer10g_home1Reports [repsrv] on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 133."
I am assuming this is a security issue with Windows 2003 but I can't find a cure anywhere.
Thanks in advance for any help that anybody is able to provide
    Cheers
    Daniel

    Hello,
Step 1) Check that you can start the reports server from a "DOS Window" :
    rwserver server=repserver
Step 2) Check the PATH set for rwserver.exe when it is running as a service
Some sysinternals utilities like Process Explorer / filemon may help :

  • Unable to start report server on NT

I have installed Developer 6.0 (everything option) and I am
having trouble starting the report server (non-web method).
I installed it as an NT service and tried to start it and I also
tried the command line method: rwmts60 -listen mydatabase
I get the same error with both methods of launching the server:
REP-0186: Daemon failed to listen to port.
The troubleshooting docs point to a problem with the tnsnames.ora
or sqlnet.ora, but I am sure they are fine because I can connect
to the database via sqlplus and SQL Navigator.
Developer 6.0 is installed on NT 4.0 and the database is on a
    Solaris machine running Oracle 7.3.4.0.1.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks;

    Hello, Emad
I had the same problem until I called Oracle TechSupport and
here's what they told me to do:
(Assuming you are starting from scratch and Reports Queue
    Manager is available)
    1. In tnsnames.ora add this line(no spaces):
    %report_server_name%.%your domain%)=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)
    (HOST=%YOUR_TCPIP_ADDRESS%)(PORT=1949)
    2. At cmd prompt type the following:
    rwmts60 -install %report_server_name% tcpip
    3. Install reports server(answer yes after completing step 2).
    4. Go to control->panel->services select Oracle %
your_report_server_name% and click startup select log on
as='This Account' and select account. Then startup the service.
    5. Open reports queue manager(make sure status says='running')
select job->new, and you are home free...
P.S. To test your reports server,at cmd prompt type :
    rwcli60 report=c:/orant/bin/testreport.rdf userid=%
    user/passw@sid% server=%report_server_name% destype=file
    desname=test.pdf desformat=pdf.
    Hope it helps...

Have anybady can solve this problem?

I think your newly created report90 listens on the same port as your old rep60 service. Uninstall this service and install rep60 with a different port number or let reports 90 use a different port number

    Hello Fabian,
I tried the command 'rwserver.sh server=rep_rn0628_dev'. It gave me this error: -
"REP-56105: Engine rwEng-0 died with error:"
No error was mentioned after this.
I am sorry I am not allowed post the content of the .conf file. But it would be nice if you could let me know what checks you planned to do in the fie.
    Thanks in advance
