Starting the data mining monitor

I have installed an Oracle 9i Release 2 database locally in order to test the functionality of the data mining option. I know it is installed. However, when I try to start the monitor in the SQLPlus interface by using the command:
exec odm_start_monitor;
It gives me the following error:
BEGIN odm_start_monitor; END;
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
PLS-00201: identifier 'ODM_START_MONITOR' must be declared
ORA-06550: line 1, column 7:
PL/SQL: Statement ignored
I have tried this as the sysdba user as well as the odm user and it gives me the same message. Since the monitor needs to be running for any of the functionality to work, this is kind of a bottleneck.

I have just the same problem as you have. AND what's worst is I have done the unlock step for the odm and odm_mtr account, I still cannot "exec DM_START_MONITOR" in the sqlplus environment.

SPP 4.30 windows could not start the rwd uperform monitoring service

Hi, i just install spp 4.30 with two servers, one for the sql databases, and the other for the search server and vignette.
Windows server 2008. 64 bits
All the installation was ok, but when you try to configure the server it doesn't show the web page.
The rwd uperform monitoring service can not start and send the following error:
Windows could not start the rwd uperform monitoring service error 1067.
Any ideas.

BOFC Unable to start the data source

i've done a standalone install using SQL 2008 R2 express. But i'm unable to start the data source and get this error:

Ok, problem solved.
I had to create a seperate DCOM user and assign it to the following roles in windows:
log on as a batch job
log on as a service
then assign this DCOM user to the Ctbroker and CTserver. As i'm not running this on a domain, there was no need to use 'packet level authentication'. So i set the authentication level to none.
There was no need to use the web based admin interface. Ctadmin.msc worked perfectly.

'Error 8 occurred when starting the data extraction program'

Hello Experts,
I am trying to pull master data (Full upload) for a attribute. I am getting an error on BW side i.e. 'The error occurred in Service API .'
So I checked in Source system and found that the an IDOC processing failure has occurred. The failure shows 'Error 8 occurred when starting the data extraction program'.
But when I check the extractor through RSA3, it looks fine.
Can someone inform what might be the reason of the failure for IDOC processing and how can this be avoided in future. Because the same problem kept occurring later as well.

Chk the idocs from SM58 of source system are processing fine into ur target system(BI system)...?
Chk thru Sm58 and give all * and target destination as ur BI system and execute and chk any entries pending there?

Is it possible to programmatically start the CAN Bus Monitor? I was unable to find the executable, so either I'm not looking in the right place or it's built into NI-CAN or MAX.

Indeed it is. I found the executable at c:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-CAN\bin. It won't run by simply clicking on it, you must call it with the can port (e.g. CAN0) as the first paramenter.

BoFC 7.5 could not start the data source

Hi ,
I am installing BoFC Server on windows server 2003 R2 SP2. as part of installation I have created a empty database ( SQL server 2008 R2) . Installation went without any issu .
I opened the ctadmin and defined the new data source connecting to the new database created during installation .
When I am trying to start that database , I am getting following error :
Failed to start data source BFC_7.5.
Failed to start server instances on machine VANTAGEAPPS2.
Failed to initialize server configured on machine VANTAGEAPPS2.
Class not registered
Can someone please help .

How to I connect using the Data Mining Tool if Windows Athentication is a seperate AD account

I use a ERP solution in a Cloud which provides SQL Analysis Services and Cubes. They create for us users within their Domain AD separate from our local (in house) AD. When I attempted to use the setup up tool to connect to Analysis Services that I do not
administer it did not give me the option to authenticate as a different user or account other then my own domain.
I am using SQL 2012 and Microsoft Excel 2013

There is no use for testing named pipes. As I said - it is an excellent method for IPC. It is slow and unscalable for networking, especially WANs.
A few minutes of googling this subject and doing some bit of research, would highlight this quite clearly.
BTW - if you think named pipes are better for tcp, then don't you think Oracle would have recommended its use? Heck, Oracle recommends using the RDS protocol for the RAC Interconnect. A protocol not widely known outside the HPC environment. So surely they would have sung the praises of more commonly known named pipes for tcp if it was any good?
Which again points to the fact that it ain't good and your wasting your time by trying to be "clever" and barking up the wrong tree.

Data Mining on data specified and filtered by the user in runtime

Hi Experts,
i am new to Data Mining in SAP BI (we are on BI 7.0 SP Level 20). I familiarised myself with APD and Data Mining by reading some interesting and useful threads in this forum and some other resources. Therefore I got a understanding about the topic and was able to create basic data mining model for an association analysis and an corresponding APD for it and write the results into a DSO by using the data source. But for now I was not able to find a solution for a concrete customer requirement.
The user shall be able to select an article, a retail location and a month and get the top n combinations sold with that article in the particular location and month. For that he may not access the data mining workbench or any other SAP internal tools but he shall be able to start the analysis out of the portal (preferable a query).
We had some thoughts on the scenario. The first idea would be to create an APD for every location for the last month. As we need to cover more than 100 locations, this would not be practicable. Therefore I think it would be necessary, that the user can select the particular filters, and the data mining would then be executed with the given input.
The other idea was to use a query as source. The user would start this query and filter location and month in it. The result of the query could then be used as the source for the APD with the association analysis. Therefore we would need to create a jump point from that query, which starts the APD with that results. After that the user should be able to start a result query, which displays the result of the association analysis (ideally this result query would start automatically, but starting it manually would be ok, too).
So, I have the following questions for these scenarios:
1.) Is it possible to create variants of a single APD, for automatically doing the data mining for the different locations?
2.) is it possible to start an APD out of a query, with the particular results regarding filtering?
3.) Can we place a query directly on the data mining results (how?) or do we need to write the data mining results in a DSO first?
4.) What about the performance? Would it be practicable to do the data mining in runtime with the user waiting?
5.) Is the idea realistic at all? Do you have any other idea how to accomplish the requirement (e.g. without APD but with a query, specific filter and conditions)?

SQL Server Excel Add In for Data Mining: How do I retrieve the coefficients underlying the logististic regression model in excel

I constructed a logistics regression model inside Excel using the Data Mining Add In. I would like to see the coefficients for each input variable. I can't seem to find this inside excel. I tried running queries in DMX inside
Mgt Studio but that seems to return multiple coefficients
for each input variable. I am seeking
ONE coefficient for each variable.
Other applications I have used in the past provided the intercept and one coefficient for each input variable. Can someone advise on how I can achieve that inside excel or Analysis Services?

We have this problem when we install the add-in using an Administrator's login ID.
The problem is that the add-in automatically registers the Excel add-in. This causes a whole host of problems, including the one you describe (even when we install with the user as the admin on their own machine). Other problems include conflicts with other Add-ins (e.g. nVision) & utlities that import PDF into Excel.
For our Citrix environment we do the following:
· Install Essbase Add-In as Administrator
· Replace “ntuser.dat” file in Default User profile with the “ntuser.dat” file from Administrator’s profile. (Replace C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\NTUSER.DAT with C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\NTUSER.DAT).
· Delete existing user profile from the system
Once user logs back in, a new profile will be created to work with Essbase add-in.
Note:
1. 1. NTUSER.DAT file is a hidden file. It is only visible if show hidden file option is enabled
2. Deleting user profile from the system remove all user customization such as shortcuts, favorites, pst file etc. as well.
BUG NOTE: When you try to Unregister the Excel Add-in from your Start button, the shortcut points to the wrong file name. The file name should be "unRegExcelAddin.exe"

Choosing the correct Excel Data Mining Addin

My company has SQL Server 2008 (not R2) and Office 2010. I checked the Excel Data Mining Add-in downloads on both the Microsoft site and SQLServerDataMining.com looking for this combination but cannot find it. The DM Addin for Office 2010 are
all SQL Server 2012 and the SQL Server 2008 version has Office 2007. I installed the SQL Server 2008/Office 2007 add-in but it keeps getting disabled. I get an error message stating that there are compatibility issues. Does anyone have an
idea on what the best add-in is to install? There are many users in the organization and the version of SQL Server is way above my pay grade.

The Data Mining Add-ins for SQL Server 2008 is a free download that can be used with either Excel 2007 or Excel 2010. When you use the data mining add-ins, you can connect to an existing instance of
SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services and use the data mining algorithms and services provided by that server to perform data mining on the data in your Excel workbook and other supported data sources.
To use both add-ins on the same computer, you must install the same version of both add-ins. Each version requires the corresponding version of Excel. When installing SQL Server 2008 Data Mining Add-Ins and it

Oracle 9i data mining algorithm

Does oracle 9i data mining provider decision tree and clusting algorithm?

yes, I know that DataMining is installed, but from what I know, it should be checked before the creation of the database.
for example I am performing the post installation steps:
Unlock the Data Mining Accounts
1. From a SQL*Plus session logged on as SYS, enter the following:

Start the Oracle Data Mining Task Monitor

yes, I know that DataMining is installed, but from what I know, it should be checked before the creation of the database.
for example I am performing the post installation steps:
Unlock the Data Mining Accounts
1. From a SQL*Plus session logged on as SYS, enter the following:
alter user odm account unlock;
alter user odm_mtr account unlock;
Start the Oracle Data Mining Task Monitor
1.From a SQL*Plus session, execute the following:
connect odm/[email protected]
exec odm_start_monitor
this gives me an error: odb_start_monitor not defined...

Hi, I'm a blind DBA and I need some input and some suggestions from the forum on how to access the Data Mining feature.
This feature is becoming more and more an essential part of my daily tasks, so I need a way to use it.

OS: Windows XP Pro and Linux

I know there is a Windows program called Data Miner, unfortunately my JAWS speech synthesizer does not work with the interface and I need an alternative. I
read Oracle's documentation on the Data Miner API., but it is short on examples, details , and step by step instructions. Does anyone have a more
comprehensive set of examples on how to use the Data Mining API. from start to finish, specifically for market basket analysis? Any help would be
appreciated.

I am not very knowledgeable about Oracle Data Miner, the graphical user interface to Oracle Data Mining, but I can respond to your question about API documentation.
You may find the source files for the Data Mining sample programs to be very helpful. They provide many examples. After installing Oracle Database, install Oracle Database Examples. This separate installation process installs the sample programs in the DEMO directory under Oracle Home. Instructions for installing and configuring the sample programs are provided in Oracle Data Mining Administrator's Guide. Here is the link to the relevant chapter in the 11.1 Administrator's Guide.
