Starting to get upset with new FX5600

OK - I bought a FX5600 yesterday and things seemed OK with a bit of crashing which I figured were teething problems, maybe with drivers (apart from the software thing I've whinged about on another thread). Then I found out that there were these new Detonator drivers out (44.03) so I got them. Then the brown stuff really hit the spinning thing. I can't play anything for more than 30 minutes without a crash now. 'Daikatana' now plays worse than it did with my old GeForce2, even though when I first installed the new card I was bossing UT2003 with full effects. I can't even revert to the old drivers because the install program doesn't recognise my GeForceFX as an NVIDIA chip!!
I figure it might be to do with IRQ type scary stuff. This is what my device manager shows (repeated lines e.g. IRQ 5 are just as they are shown on screen):
00 System Timer
01 Standard 101/102 keyboard
02 Programmable interrupt controller
03 Communications port (COM2)
04 Communications port (COM1)
05 Conexant PCI modem enumerator
05 VIA TECH 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
05 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering
05 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering
06 Standard floppy disk controller
07 EPSON Printer Port (LPT1)
08 System CMOS/real time clock
09 VIA TECH 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
09 VIA TECH 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
09 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering
09 SCI IRQ Used by ACPI Bus
10 VIA USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller
10 CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio device [my onboard sound]
10 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering
11 VIA TECH 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
11 NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600
12 PS/2 Compatible Mouse
13 Numeric data processor
14 VIA Bus Master PCI IDE controller
14 Primary IDE controller (dual fifo)
15 VIA Bus Master PCI IDE controller
15 Secondary IDE controller (dual fifo)
Whew. That took a long time to type. Now, I don't understand IRQ stuff beyond what an interrupt is. I certainly don't know which things are safe to be on the same IRQ slot. But it seems to me that all those repeats can't be right - can they? Mainly though, the graphics card is sharing an IRQ with two other things - is this bad?
I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out with this. Is there a problem with my IRQs and if so, what on earth do I do to fix it?
Many, many thanks in advance.

Ross,
APIC is enabled in the BIOS. You do not want to enable since it would mean you would need to install your OS again in order for it to function correctly. On Motherboards with APIC the default is usually enabled. Seeing you do not have it enabled and I am guessing you did not disable it in your BIOS. this makes we wonder if you are running Win98SE or WinME since they do not use APIC? (The only thing you missed listing above in your first post.)
Here is a little more info direct from Microsoft on APIC:
Key Benefits of the I/O APIC
Take Care,
Richard
P.S. My wife is from Weybridge in Surrey, so you might find me at your door one day, waiting to head to your Local for a pint.

  • Can't get internet with new Macbook pro

    As the title says I can't seem to get internet with my new Macbook Pro.  I get wifi fine, use the password on my router and that works, but I still can't get connected to the internet.  I know the router works, as I can use another laptop on it.  Any ideas on what to do? (other than call Apple which I'm doing when I get out of work.)

    iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
    Quick answer if you use iTunes default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
    Do not confuse moving your whole folder and library with moving just media files as in

  • Email alert to apple ID after sim card gets changed with new number

    Hi , i would like to know that if i will get an email alert  when my sim card gets changed with the new number, to the apple ID or email ID that i  registered with Apple.

    I would try a few things along the lines of:
    Resetting the iPhone (not just shutting it down)
    Going to Settings>Carrier> this refreshes the carrier list
    Check to make sure it's on automatic or that the 3G AT&T network is selected
    Turning Airplane mode on then off to try to kick start the phone and along the same vain Flicking 3G on and off in Settings>General>Network
    Then a restore
    Then contact AT&T, double check the SIM is 3G enabled, and even if it is still get a replacement SIM
    If none of this worked i would then contact AppleCare or go in to see a genius at an Apple store cause maybe the 3G chipset is stuffed

    hi
    i think u have to do it manually
    logically if u see u can use diffrent prices in diff po
    if ur price is inr 100 in 1st po and u done gr ur rice will get updated in mm suppose it is 105
    next time u create the po of 110 rs  and done gr
    suppose ur price updated is 108 rs inmm
    so it is not happening that 108 is get updated in ur 1st po
    right so i think u have to update pos manually
    if i am wrong plz let me know

  • KONV not getting updated with new condition type value

    Hi,
    I have created a new condition type for a pricing procedure. But table KONV-KAWRT is not getting updated with any value. Can anyone help me this.
    Thanks
    Shweta

    Hi Vasu,
    It was created in the same way then I have assigned calculation formula . For invoice it is comming fine but for the intercompany billing it is not showing any value in Contition tab for this particular condition type. For this when I checked in KNOV table it is showing condition type but the value (KONV_KAWART) is comming out zero and due to this reason it is not showing value in intercompany billing ->condition. Do I need to write code for this?

  • Getting crazy with new Xalan J 2 3 1!!! HELP!

    I am using the following code with new Xalan for XSL Transformations:
    public static String transform (Node xmlNode,Node xslNode)
    throws XPTOException{
    StringWriter writer = new StringWriter();
    TransformerFactory tFactory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
    Transformer transformer;
    StreamResult result = new StreamResult(writer);
    try {
    transformer = tFactory.newTransformer(
    new DOMSource(xslNode));
    transformer.transform(new DOMSource(xmlNode),
    result);
    }catch (TransformerException e) {
    String s= ServletUtils.getStackTraceAsString(e);
    throw new XPTOException (res.getString("Msg_3"),s);
    return writer.toString();
    My XSL is ok, at least it always worked with old version of Xalan:
    <?xml version="1.0" ?>
    <xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="1.0">
    <xsl:output method="html" />
    </xsl:stylesheet>
    So I declare output method...
    But I got this error:
    java.lang.NullPointerException
         at org.apache.xalan.transformer.TransformerImpl.createResultContentHandler(TransformerImpl.java:1003)
         at org.apache.xalan.transformer.TransformerImpl.createResultContentHandler(TransformerImpl.java:934)
         at org.apache.xalan.transformer.TransformerImpl.transform(TransformerImpl.java:1083)
         at org.apache.xalan.transformer.TransformerImpl.transform(TransformerImpl.java:1066)
         at xpto.util.XSLTEngine.transform(XSLTEngine.java:93)
    that by my research seems to be related with the output method for xsl....
    I don't know what's going on!
    Help!

    How did you solve this problem?

  • Getting warnings with new GCC

    The new GCC complains about classes with virtual functions but without virtual destructors. This results in an abundance of warnings when compiling Qt and KDE software, to the point that it completely clutteres the compiler's output.
    Is this a known issue?

    I fully understand that it is not Arch's fault that these warnings appear.
    I'd quit while you are behind, mate.
    It's getting a bit tiresome to explain myself, so I'll try to do it once and get it over with. Anyone still thinking I am behind, contradicting myself, or simply a complete moron, is entitled to do so.
    I am a software developer, running Archlinux on my computers. Today I have upgraded my work machine, using pacman, following the move to GCC 4. As a result of this upgrade, I get an abundance of warnings every time I try to compile any piece of code using the Qt and KDE libraries.
    The warnings are a result of bugs made by Qt and KDE developers. Not having a virtual destructor for a class containing virtual methods is bad C++ programming. Arch developers are in no way to be blamed for this.
    However, as an Archlinux user I have experienced a regression. A regression is a change for the worse in the behaviour of a product. This change was not the result of a modification in the Qt/KDE code, but rather in Archlinux (the move to GCC 4).
    If you take a look at some packages, you will often find that the Archlinux developers have included fixes to bugs in the package's own code. This does not mean that the Arch developers are responsible for the bug, but they do take on the responsibility of fixing it in order to make a better final product (the Archlinux distro as a whole).
    Since many other distros have made the move to GCC 4, and since software using the Qt and KDE libraries is quite common (to say the least), I was simply wondering if this is a known problem that has perhaps been fixed elsewhere. It would be strange if no one else has noticed it.

  • Have 3g reception but cannot get online with new 4s.

    Hi Minnamumu:
    In the Airport Admin Utility, configure the airport with the following:
    Airport Tab: Wireless Mode: Create a Wireless Network (Home Router)
    Internet Tab: Connect using: ethernet
    Network Tab: Make sure the Distribute IP addresses is NOT checked.
    Have a go at that, if that get's you up and running, then I would suggest going back under the airport tab and turning on some form of wireless security. (I recommend WPA2)
    Let us know if that helps you out and get's you online!

  • MessageDriven Beans not getting called with new messages

    I have a system in which data is collected by a number of applications and sent as messages to JMS topics. I also have message-driven beans hosted on weblogic that receive these messages and convert some of the data into entity beans for storage in the database. The problem I have is that occasionally some of the message-driven beans will stop processing messages, which will lead to messages 'backing up'. If left unchecked, the messages start to consume a lot of memory, so I have put message quotas in place to limiit this growth, but the fundamental problem is that the messages are not getting processed. I considered that the MDBs that stop working may be hung up on something internal or are hung up in the database (Oracle 10), but the DB enterprise manager says that there are no blocked sessions, and the monitor data for MDBs says that there are no active objects.
    What is happening here? I am using the monitor pages for the Weblogic console, so from that I can see that messages have not been processed, and that there are no MDBs currently processing messages, but there doesn't seem to be enough clues to pin down what is happening. Where should I be looking?

    Tom:
    Thanks for the very quick reply. I have looked in the logs, and only see error messages when the message quotas are reached. I have looked at the transaction statistics in the monitor console, and it gives zero rollbacks and timeouts. However, I have not tried a thread dump, and will try that when I get into work tomorrow.
    Here are some answers to your questions:
    * What is your version and service-pack? (I recall that there were one or two long since fixed bugs that could cause stalls.)
    I believe my version is 9.22.
    * Are the problem topics running on the same weblogic server as the MDB?
    Yes
    * Are subscriptions durable?
    No
    * Are you using "distributed topics"?
    I think so; the applications that are sending the messages are on processors other than the weblogic server. Is that what you mean by distributed topic?
    * You write that you are using multiple MDBs but only some stall. Is it the same ones each time?
    Not sure. We want to make sure that we get all the diagnostic information we can before restarting the server because we're not sure if this problem will happen again within 5 minutes, or if it will run weeks. It had run stints of a couple weeks before this point without having this problem.

  • VERY upset with new Mac Pro

    I just spent over $4,000.00 for a brand new Mac Pro, 8-Core, Two 2.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Westmere” processors.
    I'm still at the point where I may not be blaming this new computer 100%, but when you upgrade to this extent you expect everything to go faster. You certainly don't expect for things to take longer.
    I upgraded from a G5 (not exactly sure what model) running 10.4.11, couldn't go any higher.
    My biggest complaint is it takes LONGER to do things!!?? I feel like I'm back in 1999 or 2000. To open an Excel file takes, no kidding, 3-4 minutes. To open a Word file, about 3-4 minutes. I have the newest version of Office there is. Dreamweaver CS5 is slower than ever and jumpy, buggy, what ever word you wanna use. Sending files over to an external server takes 200-300% longer.
    I'm really not sure what is going on. Maybe a font conflict issue as I brought all my fonts over from old computer.
    Thanks for any advice.

    Sorry, and of course wish you had asked us first. And read through
    http://macperformanceguide.com/index.html - check "topics" there are 100+ with guides to buying, upgrade etc.
    One tip: Do a clean install on another drive
    Don't migrate applications, install them fresh
    make sure everything is current
    Your Mac boots by default and requires 64-bit drivers for 64-bit kernel mode
    The idea is more cores isn't faster, faster cores are, and even stock 2.8 4-core is a worthy system. Next choice: 3.2 4-core or sweetest of all is 3.33GHZ 6-core
    Add RAM to 6 x 4GB or 3 x 8GB for good measure.
    Avoid any plug-in or app that is PowerPC and needs to use Rosetta.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=435350
    Fonts have been known to conflict, duplicates, even corrupt.
    Of course hard to resist migrating. Or taking time, but G5 owners have had to redo everything and that does work.
    A test: do a clean install on another hard drive, do the updates, try that and see how well it goes.
    Keep boot drive to just OS + applications and mini-home folder
    2nd drive for media library, data
    3rd scratch, with a small 30GB Mac OS X just for repairs and emergency use
    Try a new user account.
    See if you are booting in 32-bit mode
    Repair your system with FSCK
    Do Safe Mode once
    Any cables, peripherals, out of date drivers for printers, external hard drives.
    Hard drives that were formatted by G5 using Apple Partition Map should be reformatted to GUID. All. If you brought your old G5 system drive over, move the files to a data drive and reformat. Don't leave the OS from G5 around.

  • Older mac 2009 getting slower with new updates

    Hi
    This may be obvious - but does installing 6 years of updates onto my 2009 iMac result in the computer getting slower? Response times for searching in safari get longer etc and generally taking a few minutes to work fully is getting longer as the years go by. It could be old age I suppose.
    Thanks

    How much RAM do you have installed? Apple menu>About this Mac>Memory will show this information. 2gb of RAM and the Mac will work, but likely perform like a slug, 4gb is better, but in my experience performance is still not great. 8gb and the Mac should perform well. I recently upgraded an early '09 Mac with 4gb of RAM to 8gb and the difference is like chalk and cheese - no more spinning beachballs or fans working overtime.
    Macsales and Crucial are good places to buy RAM, and it's very to do the upgrade yourself on 09 Macs:

    Hello,
    Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
    '''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
    #Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
    #After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
    #Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    #*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    #*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
    #Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    ##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    ##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
    More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found [[Troubleshoot and diagnose Firefox problems#w_5-reinstall-firefox|here]].
    <b>WARNING:</b> Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!</u>
    Please report back to say if this helped you!
    Thank you.

    I have received three texts in the last several hours to my iphone indicating "Your icloud keychain verification number is xxxxxx"
    I haven't requested this number to be changed. I have, however, just returned to the US from Mexico. Does this mean somebody is trying to hack into my icloud? If so, what can I do to stop it?

    Hey benjaminfromstamford,
    I understand that you are experiencing an issue when attempting to start iCloud Keychain. Here is an article that addresses this issue and can help you troubleshoot it:

    Its probably such a simple thing im not doing but I'll be dammed if I know what I'm doing wrong.
    Any smart people out there who could possibly help me please.
    I did buy a music video thru iTunes and that worked perfect on the ipod...it even has sound
    help me (sob,sob)

    Quicktime or Quicktime Pro (which iTunes uses) don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
    See:iPod plays video but not audio.
    You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.
