Starting to run out of internal HD space

I have an external portal USB drive and a big external I use for Time Machine backups.
But I was wondering - is it possible to replace the internal 160 MB drive in my MBP for something larger?
And if I do so, does that void the warranty? I have the Apple Care contract - still good for another two years - and it would be a waste to void that.

Hello, I am out of internal storage on my Iphone 4 ALREADY (Just purchased 3 months ago!). I need to clear up some space so I can do updates and take new photos. I was thinking about backing up my Photo Stream to the icloud and then deleting my Camera Roll.
1.) Is this a terrible idea??? I do NOT want to lose those photos! But I NEED more space on my phone!
2.) Will deleting Camera Roll free up space (a sufficient amount? My Camera Roll is at 4.5 GB)?
3.) Will deleting Camera Roll delete my photos from Photo Stream also? It doesn't seem to.
4.) Does Photo Stream ever automatically delete photos???
5.) Is there anyway I can save the pictures from my phone to my computer??? I can see the photos on my computer when viewing them through Photo Stream, but those are not permanent, correct?
This is one of the most ridiculous, confusing and unnessacary things I've ever known! Why oh why can't we just have a good ol' SD Card??? (My Droid never ever ran out of storage and I had it for 2 years...)
I tried backing up my photos in Itunes, but I don't have a new enough version. I tried downloading a new itunes and it still tells me I don't have the new version.
I have been working on this for 4 hours, its 2:30 am and I am going to bed. I am sorry I had to ask, but I've been searching and searching and just cannot find the answers. Thank you so much for your help!

What I would say is best is to import the videos and photos to your computer so that you can delete camera roll photos with a copy of them in your possession:

In regards to backing up Photo Stream

"No. Photos uploaded to My Photo Stream or Shared Photo Streams do not count against your iCloud storage."
However, you can do the tedious task of moving your camera roll pictures to photo stream by ensuring photo stream is turned on for your device and take a screen shot of each picture in your camera roll to move it over.
To take a screen shot, just press the "Home Button" and the "Sleep/Wake Button" at the same time while viewing the image.

2.) Deleting a bunch of photos/videos from a camera roll 4.5GB in size can definitely free up space
3.) Photo Stream photos, as you said, appear to stay upon deleting the photos. (Tested it personally)

Essentially, it won't erase your photos until you tell it to.

6.) To update iTunes, you must download and then "Run" the download you get off the website. Otherwise you will just have an installer program sitting there not updating iTunes.

I'm running out of hard drive space

I’m running out of hard drive space, therefore, I need to upgrade. What is my best option for a hard drive upgrade? My current Macbookpro (purchased 2009) hard drive is 500gb, 7200rpm. I need the best possible upgrade available. Please advise.
Other specs are:
2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

How about moving some of the data to an external drive?
By the way - have you backed up your internal drive using a backup scheme?
- if not, check out using TimeMachine.
If you have backed up your drive, keep in mind that the backup has all the files that are on the internal drive, so, one way to free up space is to remove files that you don't want to lose, but don't really need them available at all times... Just make sure you know how to restore data from the backup!

Running out of hard drive space---can I use my external hard drive-??

I have a 16GB iPod nano. I hope I can explain my problem well enough.
My laptop computer has the iTunes that I use for syncing my iPod. It has over 25gb of songs in it, but my problem is that it has completely run out of hard drive space, and I don't think I can delete anything else.
I have a 250 GB external hard drive that also has all my songs backed up on it, that has hard drive space left on it.
Is there a way to load new music into the external hard drive, that will sync up to the iPod when I connect it to the laptop, WITHOUT putting a copy of it into the laptop, and taking up space-?
The way it appears to me, and I may be wrong, is that there are 2 copies of eaxh song on my laptop---the one in my music folder, and then the one in the iTunes folder. Is that correct-?
OR, is there a way to remove some of the songs from the laptop, and put them into the external hard drive, but will still sync up to the iPod-?

I'm not sure if this can be done, but I'd hate to think that I cannot put new music onto my iPod.

I think your best move would be to the move the entire iTunes library including of all of its file to your external hard drive and running your iTunes from there. You can even have it so that all newly imported music is saved to the external drive as well.

To get that much storage, you need to look to professional online services. Pro-level hosting accounts may offer you that much (well, many will offer as much storage as you are prepared to pay for), or Amazon professional cloud services. You could also store the files on a home machine and pay for a professional hosting service so you could stream them over your own account (assuming your ISP connection and agreement allows for the bandwidth used). You would still need to deal with the issue of finding an app for the iPad that supported avi streaming.

the OmniDiskSweeper was a very helpful download, because it laid out the HD and all the files on it in a "largest to smallest" fashion. When I did this I found that I had an inordinate amount of memory being taken up in my Mail Data folder, this did not make much sense so when I dug deeper I found that a 59MB scanned file that I had emailed 3 weeks ago had not been delivered, so the computer was retrying every minute and saving the history of what it was doing, so it was saving the 59MB file as well as the log about the 59MB file and hence for the last 3 weeks it's been chewing away at HD space recording the activity of the undeliverable file.
I deleted the Data record folders and removed the yahoo account from My Mail and reinstalled it with proper IMAP information and the HD is secure and holding at 331GB of free space. Like it ought to be.
I love the fact that if something very strange is happpening on your MAC there is a REASON....find it and fix it, and move on. In the PC world you would reboot 20 times, call some guy in India who will ony try to sell you a new subscription or warranty for $99 and never solve anything.

I am in the middle of a project using premiere cs5 and I have run out of hard drive space. Can I save it, buy a new hard drive and install Premiere and then reopen it again without it effecting my project?

If you are talking about only having one drive for Windows and programs AND video data and project files, a better option is to buy a second drive and move your projects and video data files to the new drive

I have recentley run out of hard drive space on my macbook pro, largely due to the fact i have just installed 90gb worth of production software and samples. I also have a 1tb external hard drive. Was just wondering, if i move files such as samples, music and photos from macintosh HD to my external hard drive, will they still run on programs as usual as long as the external hard drive is plugged in?

That's depending on the production software you use.
Most of them to install/copy samples etc. to another harddisk than the one where the software is installed as long as you "tell" them where to find the files.
Check the documentation of your software if and how...

I 110% agree, it is a disaster but it saves your mac until you recieve an external HD.

There is another way. Although it's quite stupid it might be what you're after, i dunno, so i thought i'd mention it... each track is on the ipod twice however so essentially it only has half the capacity.
If you copy the Songs to the ipod as an external hard drive and then add those to the itunes library it'll automatically sync them onto the ipod as normal. Obviously this is a silly idea really a new HDD or using manual mode is much more sensible but just in case this is useful to you.

I know it can be frustrating seeing that inbox get full and having to delete
stored messages. I do see in the Samsung manual where it advises that it
will store a maximum of 300 messages on the phone. The number may lower
if there are pictures messages and other things being stored on the device.
Have you checked your total Memory available in Settings and Tools? How much is
currently available? Please let us know these details and we may be able
to help further!

A1000-F - running out of internal space when installing/updating apps

I have just bought this model, it is sufficient for my needs with one exception.
Internal card is 16 GB, is probably divided to at least two partitions and for system/apps is allocated only 512 MB.
I have installed only few apps and if possible, moved them to the second partition (data/media), but when updating apps from GooglePlay, system warns me, that I am running out of space (have 150 MB free on system partition and 13 GB free on data partition).
For example, Chrome browser takes away 71 MB from 512 MB internal storage and cannot be moved to internal USB storage (data/media), the same is for Google Disk, Google Plus, Google News etc.
Why isn't the system/app partition at least 1GB in size, surely others hit the same problem as I. Does Lenovo know about this issue and planning to address this with an update? If not, is there an easy way to resize or merge partitions?
Thanks for any advice (simply remove all of my Google Apps would be a solution, but not the one I need).

I'm having the same problem, I have a 4gb model but I have a 16gb microsd card so I'd be fine if all the space was reserved for apps.
Also frustrating is the fact that some apps go to the internal partition by default, even the really big ones like a game that's 200mb.

I am new to computers in general and Mac's in particular and need some suggestions, this is my first computer. The free space on my HD is running out and i was wondering if i could buy a new larger internal HD from apple and have it replaced? or if it would be better and easier to buy an external HD, like one from lacie or maxtor, and use that supplementaly? and what be would be the pros and cons of each.

well the situation is the free space on there rignt now is enough for music, photos, documents et. al., but i am interested in putting some of my DVD collection on my HD for easy access as well as not worrying about the discs getting scratched, and maybe using Delicious Library, which i just read about a few days ago, to manage them, and i have two of my movies on their now but they take alot of space 14 GB's. My DVD collection is not that big only about 15 movies.
my computer seems to be slower, and i was wondering if this had anything to do with the diminishing capacity of my HD
