Starting up the OEM under W2K

Hi,
When starting up the OMS under W2k services or through the
D:\oracle\ora81\BIN>oemctrl start oms
command i get the following error:
The OracleOraHome81ManagementServer service is starting.........................
The OracleOraHome81ManagementServer service could not be started.
The service did not report an error.
More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 3534.
I'm running Oracle 8.1 and already have the TNS service running. I have a repository created but cannot get the service started.
Any ideas?

Having very similar problems with the O9 oem.
Try looking in $HOME/sysman/oms.nohup for errors.
Does the intelligent agent start OK?

When I download itunes, it says that Ipod Service failed to start. I checked the services under task manager and when I try to start it, it says access denied. How to I get access and for the ipod service to start and run?

Please help. My ipod classic could not be recognised by itunes when I connect my ipod to PC. Previously it has been recognised before I updated. This was a while ago now and so I removed all apple files and re installed the latest itunes but am having the same problem.

Some anti-virus programs (e.g., McAfee) have this rule that can be invoked under the "maximum protection" settings: PREVENT PROGRAMS REGISTERING AS A SERVICE. If that rule is set to BLOCK, then any attempt to install or upgrade iTunes will fail with an "iPod service failed to start" message.
If you are getting this problem with iTunes, check to see if your anti-virus has this setting and unset it, at least for as long as the iTunes install requires. Exactly how to find the rule and turn it on and off will vary, depending upon your anti-malware software. However, if your anti-virus or anti-malware software produces a log of its activities, examining the log may help you find the problem.
For example, here's the log entry for McAfee:

Note that the log says "Common Maximum Protection: Prevent programs registering as a service". The "Common Maximum Protection" is the location of the rule, "Prevent programs registering as a service" is the rule. I used that information to track down the location in the McAfee VirusScan Console where I could turn the rule off.
After I made the change, iTunes installed without complaint.

The OEM not start. User sysman is locked

I can't start my OEM why password the user sysman expired. I changed password of user sysman and unlock, but always start OEM the user sysman lock again. I use Oracle Database 11gr2.
I´ve already the steps below, but it not solved my problem.
To change the Sysman password:
1. Stop the OMS instances that are associated with the repository
a. opmnctl stopall
2. Change the sysman password in the database:
a. Logon to sqlplus as a dba user
b. Issue the command: alter user sysman identified by newpassword;
c. Exit Sqlplus
3. On each management server host, cd to the OMS $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/config directory
a. backup the emoms.properties file
b. edit the emoms.properties file and modify the parameters;
eml.mntr.emdRepPwd=new_password
oracle.sysman.eml.mntr.emdRepPwdEncrypted=FALSE
NOTE: When you restart the OMS, the FALSE setting will change to TRUE and the password will become encrypted in the file
4. Still on Management Repository host, cd to the AGENT_HOME/bin and stop the agent:
./emctl stop agent
5. Next, cd to the AGENT_HOME/sysman/emd directory
a. Edit the targets.xml file and modify the oracle_emrep target definition with the following in bold:
<Target TYPE="oracle_emrep" NAME="Management Services and Repository" VERSION="1.0">
<Property NAME="MachineName" VALUE="host.us.oracle.com"/>
<Property NAME="Port" VALUE="1521"/>
<Property NAME="SID" VALUE="sid"/>

<Property NAME="password" "newpassword" ENCRYPTED"FALSE"/>
b. Save the file. The TRUE value will change to FALSE and the newpassword will become encrypted when you restart the Agent.
6. Issue the command (from the Agent O_H/bin):
./emctl start agent
7. Restart each of the OMS's
emctl start oms
How can I do to solve this problem?
I can't also drop repository of the OEM.

Hi,
Its just a single command that needs to be executed:
cd <OMS_HOME>/bin
emctl config oms -change_repos_pwd -change_in_db
Note:
1. The above command
- will prompt you for the current password and the new password.
- will modify the sysman password in the repository database, in the emoms.properties configuration file / WLS Credential store and the monitoring credentials for the 'OMS and Repository' target.
- will ask you to bounce the OMS once the command is completed successfully
- for 11G, the command will modify the password for sysman and sysman_mds users in the repository database, modify the password in the credential store and change the monitoring credentials for the 'OMS and Repository' target.
2. The '-change_in_db' parameter is optional and is used to change the SYSMAN password in the repository database.
- If the sysman password is manually modified in the repository database, this option does not need not be specified.
- When this parameter is specified, the command will prompt for the current sysman password.
- It is recommended to use this option rather than manually modify the password in the repository database.
++ Once the above command executed, bounce the OMS.

Slideshow under Albums start at the end when manually sorted

Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.1. Slideshow under Albums start at the end when photos are manually sorted, this was not in the earlier version. When sorted by date the slideshow starts with the first photo.

This is a know problem with iPhoto 9.5.1. Report you problem to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
Currently the only workaround is to create the slideshow in the iPhoto slideshow mode and not directly from an album or event.

When I quit itunes it restarts again with the dot under the itunes logo but the iTunes window doesn't open until I click the icon on the dock. Also in the middle of the size vale in the size column the value starts with a number then a ? then a number.

HELP! iPod sorting artists that start with "The" under "T"

OK, so I synced my iPod classic last night, and now ALL artists that start with "The" are listed alphabetically under "T". Prior to last sync, it had never done this. I didn't change any setting, the only reason for the sync was to add a podcast that had downloaded. It also appears that the sorting feature is no longer ignoring punctuation, because "Weird Al" Yankovic is now alphabetically first, as opposed to under "W" where he was previously. What happened, and how do I get it back to normal?

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop

TimeZone issues when starting the OEM Agent since summertime switch Germany

Hello gurus,
since yesterday when the system time has swithched to summer time in Germany I have below errors when starting the agents on our systems:

The agentTZRegion value in /oracle/product/agent10g/sysman/config/emd.properties is not in agreement with what agent thinks it should be.Please verify your environment to make sure that TZ setting has not changed since the last start of the agent.
If you modified the timezone setting in the environment, please stop the agent and exectute 'emctl resetTZ agent' and also execute the script mgmt_target.set_agent_tzrgn(<agent_name>, <new_tz_rgn>) to get the value propagated to repository.
Consult the log files in: /oracle/product/agent10g/sysman/log
So I tryed the suggested resetTZ, but get below errors:

resetTZ failed.
The agentTZRegion in:
/oracle/product/agent10g/sysman/config/emd.properties
is not in agreement with what the agent thinks it should be.
Fix your environment.
Pick a TZ value that corresponds to time zone settings listed in:
/oracle/product/agent10g/sysman/admin/supportedtzs.lst
I checked the TZ settings:
*****> echo $TZ
MEZ-1MSZ,M3.5.0/02:00:00,M10.5.0/03:00:00
*****: /oracle/product/agent10g/sysman/config > more emd.properties|grep agentTZ
agentTZRegion=+01:00
which is the reason for the difference of 120min as shown by the resetTZ I assume because AIX system time says MEZ -1 and emd.properties finds GMT+1 which gives a difference of 120min.
I already applied the patch 5632264 to the agent, but the issue still exists.
When I manipulate the envirement TZ to GMT+01:00 the agent starts again, but this is no solution. Also patching the TZ of UNIX/AIX is no solution because this will cause other issues.
Any ideas how I can get the agent working again?
ps. I already tried a reinstallation of the Agent, but the issue still exists.

How & what to cleanup under the OEM Grid Agent home

1) Does Oracle have some way to automatically clean up the OEM Agent directories? Or do I have to right a script?
2) Are these the files that have to be periodically purged:
find /oracle/agent10g -name "*.log" -type f
find /oracle/agent10g -name "*.trc" -type f
find /oracle/agent10g -name "*.nohup" -type f
find /oracle/agent10g -name "*.err" -type f

How to make text start at the top of a page in livecycle 9

Hi, How can I get the text in a large text field to start at the top left of the field rather than at the center of the field? In addition, may one know how to make text wrap in the form as well?

To set the Text alignment properties use "Paragraph" pallet you can make it visible by selecting Window>>Paragraph or Shift+F5
And to allow text wrapping you need to select "Allow Multiple Lines" checkbox under "Object" pallet and "Field" tab. You can make Object pallet visible by selecting Window>>Object or Shift+F7.

When I install a host agent on my OEM 12c the status of the agent and host target in the OEM is stuck in pending. The agent is up and can ping the OMS. I haven't been able to locate any relevant errors in the logs

Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):

Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2 (optional)
The first step should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
resetpassword
That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.

Serious problem with blackberry 9300 Curve handset and denial from BB to replace the same, under warranty.

Dear Blackberry Authorities,
It is really a horrible experience with the handset of blackberry for me. I have purchased blackberry Curve handset 9300 on 22nd April from a "Phone Store”, Shop No.78,79,community centre, New friends colony, New Delhi, The Invoice No. is 319,The details of the handset are as follows:

Model: RDA71UW
It has been more than just three months ,when i purchased this handset ,It worked fine for about only fifty days from the date of purchase and from the second month ,to my shock, serious problem started in the handset and some time it was getting hanged ,sometime some keys in the keypad did not work ,some time it was getting hanged the moment I receive incoming call., sometime sms sending problem, some time some other problem ..Every time I used to switch off the phone and start again, then it used to work but after some days again there were some other problem occurring in the handset.
The phone was not getting connected to PC from the starting, and i have tried so many times but i fail to get success.
Many a times when I used t send sms the entire alphabet typed on sms has gone separately as a single alphabet in a particular sms to the recipient, causing embarrassment for me in my organization. I would blame the black berry for this embarrassment as this has caused due to faulty phone they have sold me,
I am service class person and i get occupied with my work at office in the day hours and doesn’t have time to go to the service centre of blackberry every time the problem occurs, as there are only one service centre available in Delhi at Lajpat Nagar.The service centre is about 20 Kilometers away from the area my office is situated, I managed to keep the phone running by switching off and switching on after one or two minutes, every time the problem occurs but in the first week of last month ,when the problem started continuing after switching off and switching on also ,I was bound to go to service centre at noida since it is close to my place (about 14 Km) in comparison of Lajpat nagar at new delhi,the service engineer at blackberry service centre saw my phone and said there is some software problem which can be rectified by reinstalling the software, and there are some hardware problem also (some keys on the keypad is not et. all working) ,for which i have to surrender my phone to them and they will send it to the Blackberry Office (they did not give address) and it would take 15 days at least ,thus since I had no back up phone and my each and every contact no. was there in phone it was difficult for me to give them handset at that time ,so I requested them to rectify the software problem by re installing the same.
I asked the service manager to get the backup of all the data and contact no saved into the phone, but they refused to do so and they asked me to go to some other shop nearby to get the data backup, I went to that shop and they asked 250 Rupees for data backup of my phone. I was bound to say yes to them for the amount the charge for backup .I gave them my handset and after 20-30 minutes they came back to me by saying, we cannot store your data backup as it is not connecting to PC. It was a highly disappointing reply for me.
Then i again went to your service centre and written down some important contact no.(the number which was stored on phone book) on piece of paper and taken out my SD card ,and gave them handset for re installing the same.
They gave me my handset after one and half hour and said" now it would work fine except hardware problem.".I came back and to my utter shock again after two three days handset was into its old condition ,then also I tried to manage with handset and when i could spare sometime I went to your service centre again on 24th July at Noida,
they took the phone and said it would take 12-15 days to return the handset after rectifying the problem,when i requested them to change the handset with a new handset which is at least in good working condition , they clarified that if the hardware problem is not manageable or repairable ,i would get new handset had no option except to give them handset for rectifying the problem.
Now,It is the time for a biggest shock from blackberry people-Today on 3rd August ,i have received a call from noida blackberry service centre to inform me that my handset cannot get repaired under standard warranty conditions of blackberry as there are some moisture into the phone and there is no warranty if there is a moisture inside the phone.
Thus now i wish to inform all the concerned ,Blackberry/Research in Motion ,managers/authorities ,that i have explained above ,all the things ,happened to me in last three months of my purchase of handset, in detail ,so i would again request to Blackberry/Research in Motion ,managers/authorities, to rectify the problem of my handset or change the entire handset so that I can use the same peacefully and should not roam around the service center of blackberry.
Giving this lame excuse that "there is a moisture inside the handset and thus it can’t get repaired or changed under warranty " is a clear case of cheating and harassing the customer, I have bought the handset to use it for my communication purpose not to roam around the blackberry service center nor to put water or moisture inside the handset and play with the handset and fight with all of you.
If there were some moisture inside the handset then that should have been seen by the noida service centre people also during my First visit itself by them and they would have refused taking the handset for repair. They did not refuse but accepted handset and reinstalled software also, If there was some moisture that would have been seen by them that time only.
In my second visit also the took my phone and seen the inside condition also of handset in front of me ,they did not see any moisture, that time also ,and now after 10 odd days ,there are some moisture inside the phone??????.
I have no idea how blackberry keeps its handset ,which has come to them for repairing ,but if there is any trace of moisture into my handset ,that would have come into the handset ,during these 10 days only when phone was with blackberry authorized service engineers for repair purpose. What I know is that My Blackberry handset is under warranty and it is not working properly thus it should be replaced by Blackberry.
On the keypad if some key are not working that is a hardware problem which was there in the handset and it has no connection with the moisture.
If this is the way blackberry is treating its customer, i would say it is harassing its customer, and does not want to rectify the problem .in this case, I would have no option left except to go to the consumer court in Indian judiciary system. And moreover i would inform my and other friends, organizational employee also not to use services/or buy blackberry handset if this is the way BB is treating its customer.
I would request all the concerned persons/managers/authorities of Blackberry/Research in Motion, take action into my case urgently and rectify the core problem into my handset instead of giving lame excuses, and change the faulty handset of mine with a new properly working handset under warranty condition.
