Starting with Sol10u7 sysidcfg no longer configs hostname ?!?!
Hi...
Just wondering if anyone else is running into an issue where sysidcfg files installed into a zone's etc filesystem no longer configures the hostname as of Sol10u7. My sysidcfg files have been working to autoconfig zones for many update releases but seem to no longer be able to config the hostname for u7. I'm wondering what changed.
Any help or insite would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Front End Services won't start with new cert, SChannel error about hostname
We have an existing Lync 2013 Enterprise system set up, and many of the servers are using certs issues by our local CA. I want to move several of the certs to third-party certificates so that non-domain machines can connect. The first change I'm making is
on our Edge pool. However, I'm having an issue. Here are the details:
Our internal domain space is int.domain.com. Our external domain space is domain.com. Our Lync FE server is LS01.int.pool.com and our FE pool is pool01.int.domain.com. I have generated a CSR and requested a certificate from Globalsign with the following
characteristics:
SN: pool01.int.domain.com
SAN: pool01.int.domain.com
SAN: domain.com (wildcard)
SAN: int.domain.com (wildcard)
After applying the new cert using the topology builder, I've rebooted and the Lync Front-End Server service will no longer start. The following SChannel error is in the event logs:
The certificate received from the remote server does not contain the expected name. It is therefore not possible to determine whether we are connecting to the correct server. The server name we were expecting is ls01.int.domain.com. The SSL connection request
has failed. The attached data contains the server certificate.
After reverting back to the original local CA cert, the services start. The local cert has a ton of individual SANs set up but I was under the impression that the wildcard SANs were supported and would be ok for the hostnames.
Why is it looking for my FE server name and not the pool? Is this an issue with my deployment, or is it with the cert? I'm not sure where to go from here.Hey Matt,
As mentioned above wildcards are only supported for Lync web services such as lyncdiscover, dialin and meeting URL's. It is OK to have wildcards in the certificates SAN, but you must also specifically include the following:
SN: pool01.int.domain.com (SN must be pool)
SAN: pool01.int.domain.com (pool must also be included in SAN)
SAN: lync-fe-001.int.domain.com (the machine name of your front end server)
This should solve the issue for you.

Solaris 10 zone configuration with sysidcfg and dhcp and hostname
Hi
Excuse me if I look like a n00b... it's probably because I'm a n00b.
I've been struggling in the dark for more than 2 days now and I'm wondering if I'm thinking about this all wrong...
I have stand-alone server where I need to run zones. I want to create zones and automagically configure them at boot (read: by running a script). So here's what I need...
A zone
starting from unconfigured state
whose hostname is not the same as the zone name
using corporate DHCP to get its IP address
with DNS config coming from the DHCP server
registering its address the DNS
with a preconfigured root password
(I don't own the corporate DHCP or DNS servers, I can't put my own DHCP or DNS servers on the network.)
I would lke to create the zone, throw some config at it, then boot the zone and walk away. I am using zones with exclusive-IP. I can construct the zones and manually configure them once they're started to have DHCP, my own name, registered IP address with DNS and everything else I have specified above. But I don't want to do it manually...
Sysidcfg seems to do some of what I want but not entirely.
In sysidcfg I can set the root_password, the primary interface using DHCP, DNS server. I can't set a hostname in sysidcfg AND use configure it for DHCP. So the hostname is not what I want it to be after the zone is started and ready to go. The DHCP server is providing the DNS configuration, Solaris does not seem to honour it, but i'll ignore that for the moment.
I have tried various combinations of using sysidcfg, /etc/nodename, /etc/hostname.+interface+ and /etc/dhcp.+interface+ but I can't find any combination that actually works.
I can write to the zonestorage/etc/nodename to set the nodename, that works. But it does not match the DHCP address, so I get prompted for a new name service because it can't find a DNS entry for the name.
I can write to the zonestorage/etc/hostname.+interface+ and /etc/dhcp.+interface+ (to get the system to register its name with the DNS server after getting its DHCP address) but then I get a system with no root password and no DNS configuration, even though they are set in the sysidcfg file.
I can write a script that gets part of the way using sysidcfg and /etc/... files, then boots the zone and then runs a bunch of voodoo via zlogin commands to fix all the stuff that couldn't be done 'properly', but that's not a 'boot and walk away' environment. I can write a script that uses sysidcfg and hacks around with other files in /etc (like nsswitch.conf, resolv.conf), but that just feels likes a dirty hack to fix something that wasn't done properly in the first place.
So where am I going wrong and how do I do it right (within the constraints defined)? Why can't I configure, boot and walk away?
ThanksThanks abrante
Thanks for your response!
I don't think the config is messed up after the installation. I think the installation is fine, it's just not what I want :-)
I'm trying to decouple the zonename from the system name and get DNS registrations working. After installation, a DHCP client can get its hostname from DNS but I'm trying to do it the other way around. I want the DHCP client specify its own hostname, get an address from the DHCP server and then register its hostname with DNS. If the system gets its name from DNS/DHCP then I have to configure those to provide the system name and I don't own the DHCP/DNS infrastructure. These zones are for a development/QA environment, so we create and reconfigure these frequently. Hence the need to specify the system name within the zone and register that name in the DNS.
I have tried fiddling with the PARAM_REQUEST_LIST but it does not seem to be working as I expect. :-$ Removing 12 did not help with setting the hostname from the system. DNS does not have a registered name for this system anyway, so even if it tried to get a name for this system, it would get nothing.
I also do want the DHCP to change the DNS server and domain name, but this does not happen even though my dhcpagent includes 6 and 15 in the PARAM_REQUEST_LIST. I still have to set them in the sysidcfg file because it is always ignored in Solaris (S10u8 with 10_Recommended 30-Jul-2010)
As stated, I know I can hack around with the system after it has booted. But I'm trying to configure the system before it starts and let it take care of itself and not have to touch it. Frankly I'm surprised that the sysidcfg does not allow you to set a hostname name when you are using DHCP, that the default DHCP configuration does not register the system name with the DNS server, and the DNS config from the DHCP response is ignored. Even a sys-unconfiged system requires DNS configuration during initial boot, when I know that the DHCP response contains DNS information.
FYI: Windows systems using DHCP work as expected in this respect by default, i.e. set system name, use DHCP --> system gets address from corporate DHCP, DNS settings are set from DHCP information, DNS registration is made for system name.
I'm working around this at the moment... I call my zone by the system name I want, I hardcode the DNS settings in the sysidcfg file and I create the hostname.+nic+ and dhcp.+nic+ files in the zone storage to get the system to register its name with DNS, them boot.

Hi,
I tried to configure a web server for a host having name starts by digit.
when I try to start it, I have this error:
./startserv
config: CONF1104: File /webServer7/https-10xxxx/config/server.xml line 10: Invalid <local-host> value: 10xxxx
it seems that web server 7 doesn't support hostname which begins with digit.
where can I find this information? in which document ( or references ..) can I find restrictions applied by web server on host name?
Thanks,Hi,
thanks for your response,
in fact in RFC 1912 http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1912.html we have:
Allowable characters in a label for a host name are only ASCII
letters, digits, and the `-' character. Labels may not be all
numbers, but may have a leading digit (e.g., 3com.com). Labels must
end and begin only with a letter or digit. See [RFC 1035] and [RFC
1123]. (Labels were initially restricted in [RFC 1035] to start with
a letter, and some older hosts still reportedly have problems with
the relaxation in [RFC 1123].) Note there are some Internet
hostnames which violate this rule (411.org, 1776.com). The presence
of underscores in a label is allowed in [RFC 1033], except [RFC 1033]
is informational only and was not defining a standard. There is at
least one popular TCP/IP implementation which currently refuses to
talk to hosts named with underscores in them. It must be noted that
the language in [1035] is such that these rules are voluntary -- they
are there for those who wish to minimize problems.
but it seems that Sun Server applies RFC 1035.
In this RFC we have:
The labels must follow the rules for ARPANET host names. They must
start with a letter, end with a letter or digit, and have as interior
characters only letters, digits, and hyphen. There are also some
restrictions on the length. Labels must be 63 characters or less.
I'm not sure on this, as I didn't find this information anywhere .

Hi there,
You're running an old version of Safari. Before troubleshooting, try updating it to the latest version: 6.0. You can do this by clicking the Apple logo in the top left, then clicking Software update.
You can also update to the latest version of OS X, 10.8 Mountain Lion, from the Mac App Store for $19.99, which will automatically install Safari 6 as well, but this isn't essential, only reccomended.
Thanks, let me know if the update helps,

In the Finder sidebar, under 'Shared', I encounter my TC, as well as another item with a long name starting with 'hp'. 'Get info' shows it to be a 'PC'. However, I don't have a PC. It cannot be my printer (HP), since that has anoter name.
I can not access the item, which has me a 'guest'.
What could this item be? And how to get rid of it?
Many thanks in advance for your help.
DBIt's almost certainly your hp printer and is showing the WiFi adapter MAC address after the HP.
To verify, look at the printer configuration page via Bonjour in Safari. The settings tab shows the Mac address in the bottom left hand corner for my model of HP printer.
I'm sorry but I can't explain why that would show up in the finder. -
"HTTPS hostname wrong" for a hostname starts with a number
Does anyone know about why HttpsClient throws the error for a hostname starts with a number. I have no problem with other hostname but only for the hostname starts with a number. The certificate works fine with Browser. I am sure the hostname in the certificate and in the request are exactly the same.
I know how to skip the hostname verification, but I don't want to do that for security concern.
Can sun develpoer shed some light how to verify the hostname in HttpsClient?

Al8079I looked at the RFCs you mention, and they do seem to indicate that host/domain names cannot start with digits...however if you look at RFC 1123 closely it says:
RFC1123 APPLICATIONS LAYER -- GENERAL October 1989
2. GENERAL ISSUES
This section contains general requirements that may be applicable to
all application-layer protocols.
2.1 Host Names and Numbers
The syntax of a legal Internet host name was specified in RFC-952
[DNS:4]. One aspect of host name syntax is hereby changed: the
restriction on the first character is relaxed to allow either a
letter or a digit. Host software MUST support this more liberal
syntax.
Host software MUST handle host names of up to 63 characters and
SHOULD handle host names of up to 255 characters. -
I am running OS X Yosemite on my four year old MacBook Pro which has become progressively slower and is loaded with applications I no longer use. I plan to start afresh by formatting a new 1TB SSD as a boot disk and reinstalling Lightroom 5 and PhotoShop CC.
Is there a list of the files and/or folders that contain Settings and Preferences which can be copied from the old system to the new?with your cc apps you should try to use the sync feature. that's never worked consistently for me, but when it does work, it's helpful.
there are preference folders and presets and settings that you could copy but you're better off installing fresh because a common problem for people with adobe program issues is a settings issue. -
Lenovo L420 THINKPAD starts with a constant long beeping sound for atleast 1 min.
From few days my laptop starts with a long beeping sound for atleast more than 1 min, then comes a boot order option. I have no idea whats wrong with it,last time when it happened i had to change my harddisk. Guys anyone with expert ideas please help me,and as fast possible.
Nope. Not using a dock at all. I have to mention tho', that the machine already visited an authorized service. The motherboard was replaced, because it didn't recognise the power brick and refused to charge the laptop.
I'm guessing they didn't put it back together properly. Since I posted I checked the cpu / gpu temps and the cpu temps rise to 80-90 C just when I do a simple operation like delete a larger folder. I tried to turn on bluetooth to copy some stuff from my phone yesterday and for some reason it acted like i pressed fn+f4. Went to sleep. I pressed fn+f5 just for the record, but after a few times doing this, I found that no matter what fn combo I press it goes to sleep. I have to press the power button again to bring it back. Started playing piano on the rest of the keyboard and same thing. Going to sleep. The lcd went in off mode and disappeared from both the bios and device manager. I was back at square one again seeing my desktop only on the external monitor.
I suspect the tech guys who fixed it didn't put something back right + the fact that the cpu is so hot lets me believe that the thermal paste was not applied right.
I still don't get why all the hardware self test pass. Maybe I should do a stress test? Or should I just send it back to service?

Due to now response: need the hostname to start with a digit
Resending due to no response.
If somebody from Oracle is familiar with 9iAS install guide, can this person please answer a question.
Page 2-15 of above mentioned document, pp. 2.5.4 states that
'/etc/hosts.* has the following format:
IP_ADDRESS FULLY_QUALIFIED_HOSTNAME SHORT_HOSTNAME ALIASES'
Question: would the next line in the /etc/hosts file be correct:
182.124.20.10 7abcdef.buggy.com 7abcdef
If not, what is wrong?
Thank you.
Anatoliy SmirnovI hardly think you can blame Oracle for this.
Its actually your hostname selection that is not a valid one, I found this in RFC1035:
<snip>
The labels must follow the rules for ARPANET host names. They must
start with a letter, end with a letter or digit, and have as interior
characters only letters, digits, and hyphen. There are also some
restrictions on the length. Labels must be 63 characters or less.
</snip>
So to answer your question:
No, a hostname can not start with a digit.
You can find the RFC1035 here:
http://www.cis.ohio-state.edu/cgi-bin/rfc/rfc1035.html
It also contains links back to the other RFC discussing similar subjects.

If I copy the "lcds" folder, Tomcat starts with socket errors
In the documentation it is said that when you create a new server-side application, you can start by copying the 'webapps/lcds' folder. I did that but then, Tomcat starts with some socket errors:
[LCDS]SocketServer 'my-rtmp-SocketServer' failed to pre-validate desired socket settings for BindSocketAddress: 0.0.0.0:2038
java.net.SocketException: Unrecognized Windows Sockets error: 0: JVM_Bind
[LCDS]SocketServer 'my-rtmp-SocketServer' failed to start.
flex.messaging.LocalizedException: SocketServer 'my-rtmp-SocketServer' cannot bind to accept client connections on port '2038' because another process has already bound the port. Please ensure that multiple endpoints across all applications are not configured to use this same port.
Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks,
BorekWhat is happening is that you are getting a port conflict for the socket-based NIO and RTMP endpoints used in the channel definitions in the services-config.xml file of your new web app. The issue is that you have endpoints bound to the same port in the LCDS web and in your new web app.
You can deal with this one of two ways:
Option 1: In that services-config.xml file, search on "RTMP" and "NIO" to find the channel definitions and change the port numbers to something slightly different than the ones used in the LCDS web app.
Options 2: Move the LCDS web app out of the picture so it doesn't get loaded, and just use a template for future web apps. If you aren't using it for any of your development, there is really no reason you have to load it.
I'll add a note about this to the documentation that talks about using the LCDS web app as a template. -
I was recording a song, finished it and everything went alright. Then I wanted to start with the recording of a new song. With the SAME plug-ins and settings as in the song before. I could record it all, but then, logic started crashing! Now, Logic crashes everytime I open up the new song as soon as I press play. But when I open up the older song, everything works just fine. I can press play without any problems, do things here and there... typical Logic stuff. So, it has to do with my new project! But why? I mean, I'm using everything the same way in both projects. Literally everything!
Now, here's one of my crash reports... please help. Please. Thanks in advance!

I don't know anything about GarageBand because I've never used it. I've never used any music software before, (other than iTunes, Ha!)
I don't have GarageBand on my Mac because it wasn't stock on the old Powerbook G4, so I would have to buy it. I'm happy to do that if I can figure out that it does what I want ... but I'm overwhelmed by the info at Apple's site. Too much for a beginner like me. Even the wikipedia.com entry for GB uses too many terms I don't know, so I'm easily lost.
I just want to be able to set up drum loops and play along with them. The main thing is that I'm able to use third party loops. There are so many really amazing loop products out there ... jungle drums, acoustic jazz drums, lounge, etc. I don't want to get caught up in anything proprietary (like Band-In-A-Box) because the selection is limited. I'm sure GarageBands loops are great, but I want access to all these other third party loops as well ... loops that were not specifically made for GarageBand.
Will GarageBand let me drop in any and all drum loops from these other companies?
And does GarageBand work like a basic sequencer, where I can program up an intro, X number of measures of a loop, then a turnaround, then a variation loop, then an ending, etc?
I know the high-end stuff like Native Instruments Kontakt does this, but unfortunately it also does a kazillion other professional-level things I will never need and don't want to pay for (and which make the software more complex and daunting).
Thank you again, both of you, for responding and helping me with this project.
Just a little more advice on those two questions would really go a long way.

When starting firefox, it takes a long and gives me an error message
When starting firefox, I wait a long time and then get the following message:
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
Script: chrome://tavgp/content/libs/include.js:595
If I press "stop script" several times, the web page will finally load. This does not happen with IE, but I hate IE.See http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/761982

Getting Started with Swept Sine (DAQmx) Multiple Response Signals
Hi,
I've been using the modified version of the Getting started with swept sine.vi for multiple response signals
https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-24474. Program fully suitable.
However, I am facing with three issues :
1) The edits are highly non user friendly (horrible for 6 multi-channel already), and quite long to perform.
2) Would there be a way using for loops to have a more compact and flexible way to use FRF? (Calling 6 times the same program in a similar structure does not quite seem like a smart move yet I'm relatively novice in LabVIEW).
3) Be able to set the number of channels somewhere in the software, and automatically have the software to be able to cope with this? (aka if 20 multichannels are needed, no need to modify the code?)
It's probably going to be a lot of work to get there, all I'm asking for you guys is to point me in the right direction and suggestions,
Cheers,
Kentmey
