Startrep.exe just says searching!

I have Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard installation.  We rebooted the server and following the reboot it wouldn't reload.  So I was finally able to boot the device using a 3 month old backup.  This wasn't an issue because the server hosts
a database which I was able to recover using Knoppix.  I reloaded the database files and we were back up and running.  When the system was first installed we used two identical servers.
So I just recently loaded a backup of the running server on the spare and it won't boot either.
I was doing this to test my backups.
I attempted to boot the server to the Windows Server R2 disc and I went to repair and was able to select the install that I loaded with my backups.
I went to command prompt and ran startrep.exe
It just stayed on the searching screen for about 2 or 3 hours.  It never went any farther, and there was no HD activity. Is there something I'm missing.  I'm going to try some other steps tomorrow, but wanted to see if anyone has any suggestions.
 It's a PowerEdge 2900 with a virutal raid configured to raid 5.
I'm going to try the following steps later.  Is there a particular reason I should use the Windows 7 x64 cd for Startup Repair instead of Windows Server 2008 R2?
Method 1:
===============
1. Insert the Windows 7 64bit installation disc into the disc drive, and then start the computer.
2. Press any key when the message indicating "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD …". appears.
3. Select a language, time, currency, and a keyboard or input method. Then click Next.
4. Click Repair your computer.
5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, choose the drive of your Windows installation and click Next.
6. At the System Recovery Options Dialog Box, click Repair your computer.
7. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
8. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Startup Repair.
Method 2:
===============
1. Put the Windows Server 2008 R2 installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
2. Press any key when the message indicating "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD …". appears.
3. Select a language, time, currency, and a keyboard or another input method. Then click Next.
4. Click Repair your computer.
5. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
7. Type Bootrec /RebuildBcd, and then press ENTER.
Method 3:
===============
1. Put the Windows Server 2008 R2 installation disc into the disc drive, and then start the computer.
2. Press a key when the message indicating "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD …". appears.
3. Select a language, a time, a currency, and a keyboard or another input method, and then click Next.

Hi adammcc81,
Could you offer us the detail information about “We rebooted the server and following the reboot it wouldn't reload.”
, do you meet any error message?
“So I just recently loaded a backup of the running server on the spare and it won't boot either.” Which backup software you are using? I will assume you are using the Windows
Server Backup for the further troubleshooting steps.
Please use the same edition DVD to boot your server and perform the repair action. As you descripted the startrep search a long time, I assume it may caused by there don’t
have the built-in array driver for your server.
Please first refer the following similar scenario repair steps if it doesn’t work do the next repair steps.
Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7 System Will NOT Boot After Making Changes To Boot Manager Using BCDEdit

I don’t have the same hardware with you therefor I can’t determine whether the Server Install image have the built-in array driver for your server, please use the diskpart
tool to list your server volume, if you can’t see your disk volume you must first inject your array driver to install image first.
You can use this command to list your server volume: After your enter the recovery console, type in
Diskpart-> list volume
You can refer the following article to inject your server array driver to the server setup image,

  • My Iphone 5s can not connect me to my network. It just says searching in the top left corner for 2 days now.

Yesterday morning, my phone decided to kick me of my network and not let me back in. In the top left corner, it just says 'Searching...'. I have tried restarting my phone, resetting all settings and resetting network settings and nothing has decided to work for me. I then went to reset my phone but it will not let me log out of 'Find my Phone'. Therefore it did not allow me to reset my phone.
    Please can somebody help.
    Thanks.

You'll have to unlock the phone in icloud.com/find to be able to get pass the activation lock.

  • My iPhone 3gs does not hold signal and just says "searching" this happened after I updated to 5.1.1. What can I do to fix it.

Ever since i updated to 5.1.1 my phone just says "searching". I live in a highly populated area with many at&t towers, and this has made me pretty much despise apple, concidering that i've been without a phone for the past week. What do I do to fix it? If it is a software issue.

    Hello there, kiwilucea.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some in-depth steps for troubleshooting your issue:
iPod not recognized in My Computer and in iTunes for Windows

Keep in mind if you get to Step 12 Reinstall iTunes, those steps need to be followed exactly as outlined for the reinstall to be effective.

  • HT4528 My phone will not connect to a carrier (Verizon). It just says searching instead of showing bars.  Cannot make or recieve calls or texts.

My phone just started doing this, it just says searching instead of showing bars.  Cannot make or recieve calls or texts.
I have reset the network settings and the phone itself.  I have called the *228 and it said it reprogramed my phone.  walked away from my phone and it found service again for like 2 minutes and then went back to searching.  This is pathetic, I basically have a touch now.  I have hear several people have had this problem and it seems even after the phone is replaced they still have the problem.  I can't belive you can spend this much on a phone to have it not work. Any resolve to this problem coming?

I have first a question. When it states to activate a phone press 1, did you do it? If not try it.
The second thing I would recommend is to simply change the phone number either online through my Verizon web portal or call customer service and have them change your number.
Then wait about 20 minutes and see if the problem has gone away.
Since the micro Sim is only good for overseas unlocked use;  I believe a *228 send and select option 1 will set up your device on the Verizon network. You may just try doing that without changing your phone . Hey give it a try what can it hurt?
    Good Luck

  • Activated iPhone 4, but can't get any service...just says "Searching..."

So I purchased an iPhone 4 and activated it with my number.  Verizon account says phone is activated with my number, and I set it up with iTunes and all that good stuff.  However, I can't get any service at all.  The rest of my family all has iPhone 4 and they get 3G coverage in our house no problem, but I can't seem to get service anywhere.  I have tried everything in the book; reset network settings, reset all settings on phone, soft reset, updated to newest IOS, dialed *228 and pressed 2 to get new PRL, turned it on and off multiple times, etc .  Still can't seem to get service, just keeps saying "Searching.." where the bars should be.  Just wondering if there are any other steps I need to take.  Appreciate any and all feedback.

        Hi Snyder23,
I am sad to hear about the problems with your new iPhone 4! That is a great device. Thanks for all the troubleshooting your have done so far. It appears your phone might be faulty. Are you still within your 14 day Worry Free Guarantee? If so, we can exchange it for another device. If not, you can visit your local Apple store for a hands on evaluation. Keep us posted.

  • HT201415 Hi. A friend of mine bought an iphone 5 and gave me his iphone 4. Everything else works normal except the network signal. Phone is on vodafone UK and I tried 2 different sim cards but on both it just say searching then no network, and again searc

Can you please help me? Where should I sendmy phone to look if it needs repair or something? The phone looks very nice but can't get any signal it stays on searching and no network no matter what I do or where I go. It doesn't find any network. Can you please help me? What can it be? My friend said he had it for 2 years and it was working find with him.

I think it is from that.
Maybe Vodafone can help you by contracting the same contract form that your friend has/had: that was what the subsidy paid for. Anyway you should arrange it with Vadafone, I heard nowadays they will unlock it when the contract period has expired.

  • My Bluetooth was working a week ago but it doesn't show up or connect in my bluetooth list it just says still searching for devices, why won't my bluetooth connect or pair again?

The bluetooth showed up in the bluetooth list last week & now it won't even connect to the phone when i turn the bluetooth on to start pairing it just says Searching.

    Hey there Kaitlyn Turner,
It sounds like your bluetooth is not functioning correctly on the iPhone. I recommend the troubleshooting in this article for the issue you are seeing named:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Bluetooth connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4562
Check that you are in range of the Bluetooth accessory with which you are trying to pair your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Most Bluetooth accessories have a range of approximately 30 feet.
On your iOS device, tap Settings > Bluetooth and find your device in the list. If your device says Not Connected, tap the name of your accessory to attempt to connect it.
Tap Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth off and then on again.
Make sure that your Bluetooth accessory is turned on and fully charged or connected to power.
Make sure that your Bluetooth accessory is in pairing mode.1
    Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Bluetooth and locate the Bluetooth accessory you are currently connected to or attempting to connect to. Then tap and Forget this Device. Try to pair your Bluetooth accessory again.
Note: You may need to re-enter your Bluetooth accessory PIN if your accessory requires one. Some common PINs are 0000, 1111, and 1234.
Restart your Bluetooth accessory by turning it off and then on again1.
Update your device to the latest version of software. See how to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
If your Bluetooth accessory has upgradable firmware, check to see that you have the latest version1, 2.
And this troublehsooting from down the bottom if needed:
Bluetooth disconnects, intermittent connectivity, or unable to find
Move your iOS device closer to the Bluetooth accessory.
Position your iOS device and Bluetooth accessory in direct line of sight of each other. For example, move the Bluetooth accessory and iOS device to the same side of your body.
Remove any case, stand, or other accessories from your iOS device and see if performance improves.
Check for sources of potential interference and move both the iOS device and the Bluetooth accessory away from other electronic devices.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings including: previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords, recently used Bluetooth accessories, VPN, and APN settings.
If your device is still experiencing issues
If the steps above have not resolved the Bluetooth behavior you are experiencing, perform a software restore in iTunes.
If the issue persists after restoring your iOS device in iTunes, contact Apple for support and service options.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • IPhone 5 keeps saying searching

My iPhone 5 has just got back working from water damage and everything's working sound touchscreen etc apart from when I restored my phone it just says searching in top left, any ideas?

    Hello ML1996
Check out the troubleshooting that I have outlined below to resolve issues with your iPhone showing Searching in the top left corner.
    iPhone: Troubleshooting No Service
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4429
Toggle airplane mode: Tap Settings > Enable Airplane Mode, wait five seconds, then turn off airplane mode.
Turn your iPhone off, then on again.
Remove the SIM card and verify that it's a valid, carrier-manufactured SIM. Also verify that it isn't damaged, worn, or modified. Then reinsert it.
Check for a carrier-settings update. Connect to a Wi-Fi network. Then tap Settings > General > About. If an update is available, iOS will ask you if you want to install it. If Wi-Fi isn't available, connect your device to iTunes.
Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
    Restore the iPhone.
If you're outside the United States, please also follow these steps:
Go to Settings > Carrier > Automatic.
If the phone registers any carrier network, Settings > Carrier will be present.
If the Carrier option is missing in Settings and you're outside of the Unites States, please contact Apple for support and service options.
Set the option for Automatic to off.
A list of potentially available carriers appears after about two minutes. If the device is locked to a carrier, it may connect only to the carrier network to which it is locked. If the device displays carrier networks, then the device is working as expected.
Set Settings > Carrier > Automatic back to on.
If you're still experiencing No Service issues, contact your carrier to check for any network or account issues that could cause these symptoms.
    Regards,
    -Norm G.

  • Phone keeps saying searching.

Okay, so I have the iphone 5c, and have had it for about 2 months now. I've had no problems with it, but all of a sudden, it kept saying "No SIM card" when I know there is one. So, after taking the SIM card out and putting it back in a few times, the problem seemed to go away. Then, a few weeks later, it satrted again. Now when it does this, my service will go from 3g, to 1x, to no service at all. I tried the same thing with the SIM card again, and it worked for about an hour, until the service was completly lost and it just says "Searching.' I have tried everything from reseting my network settings, reseting all of my settings, turning it off and on, holding the home and lock button to make it restart, and nothing seems to be working. Any ideas???

Contact your carrier and ask for a replacement SIM.  That one is obviously going "flakey".

  • HT1296 my signal bar says searching... therr are no incoming or outgoing cakks

My phone is not working. It just says searching...

Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
    Remove and Re-insert the SIM.
    Replace the SIM.
Contact the carrier to troubleshoot the issue.

  • I just got a replacement for my iPhone 4S, ever since i could be sitting in the same spot and go from 5 bars w/ 4G to 1 bar then it will say searching..then shortly after it will return back to 5 bars. Apple or service provider?

I just went to the Apple store not three days ago to get a replacement. They gave me a replacement then moved on to the next customer. Ever since I have gotten home my service has been going in and out. I can have my phone in the same place and it can say that i have 5 bars with 4G, then not two seconds later it will go to 1 bar, after that it will say Searching..for a little over two minutes. Then it will go back to saying that i have 5 bars with 4G, and the cycle will continue. I am not sure whether this is an Apple problem or if it is my service provider. I have talked to several others who have the same service provider and they say that they are not experiencing any problems!

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore.  Has any of this been tried?
Unless and until is has been, Apple will not do anything, beyond the basic troubleshooting listed above.
