Startserv no respond
Hi,
Does anyone of you face the similar problem? In Sun Java System application server platform edition 9, starting app server using asadmin is ok, but using the startserv has no respond when you execute the command. Any idea?
Thanks alot
We have been facing this problem on version8 also.... things are going fine with asadmin as you mentioned.

Unable to capture user comments and responder in RESPOND API
We are building a custom application that uses Oracle Workflow underneath. The application users and responsibilities have been integrated into Workflow. Notifications are acknowledged and responded to directly from the application using the PL/SQL Notification APIs.
When using the wf_notification.respond API with the appropriate user and comment information filled in, we are still unable to capture the responder information as well as the reponders comments. In other words, the RESPONDER and USER_COMMENT fields in the WF_NOTIFICATION is blank. However, the response does seem to go through otherwise. Do we need to set some kind of user context outside of just setting the response attributes and calling the respond API? Following is the code....
owf_mgr.wf_notification.setattrtext(p_nid,
'RESULT' ,
'APPROVED');
-- This procedure then caused the WF to advance to next step
-- Respond to notification, depends on RESULT setattrtext above
owf_mgr.wf_notification.respond( p_nid, -- notification id
p_respond_comment, -- response_comment
p_responder ); --responder role
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
RajIf you are on 11.5.10 or greater or standalone 2.6.4 if you pass the responder value to wf_notification.respond API it should be updated in wf_notifications.responder column. The comments is now updated in wf_comments table against the notification id and not wf_notifications.user_comment column.
Thanks, Vijay -
Hi,
I have an iMac from 2007 operating on Leopard. I've been having trouble with applications freezing, but this morning after being in Safari, everything just froze. I couldn't go to a new web page, I couldn't quit Safari. I can move the arrow, but when I try to select an app from the dock, nothing happens. I can't open anything on the computer, I can't shut down unless I cut the power.
The clock is running, my Skype window opened automatically, and the cursor is blinking in the search box there. I can type in the Skype search box, but there is no response when I hit return.
I am currently on my daughter's laptop since I can't get my desktop to respond at all.
Thanks for any help!First, press COMMAND-OPTION-ESC to see if the task manager will open. If not then you will have to do a forced shutdown by pressing the power button and holding it down until the computer shuts down. Wait about 30 seconds to allow the hard drive to spin down fully, then do the following:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your current OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
You may be fine after this, but if you continue having a problem let us know what that is. -
It started yesterday when i was listening to itunes when all of a sudden the music stopped playing and i had to hold down the power button to shut it down and reboot, and then, when i logged back in, the error sound played, and then finder opened up, but the window was grayed out like i had another app selected, bu i didn't, so i tried to open up itunes and the icon started bouncing and then it stopped midbounce and i had to reboot again because finder wasnt responding. now when i log in, the error sound plays, and finder immediately stops working and then i have to reboot again because i cant click anything and i cant properly relaunch finder. please help
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Need help for trying to unfreeze a message on my ical. I was trying to copy and paste some appointment info from one day to another on my ical and a message popped up saying the system responded with an error. All of my info was below the message. I can't get that message to go away or work on the ical now at all. I try to force quit ical and have shut down the computer and it still comes up. Any suggestions?
K,
Try removing the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. To find that Library folder, if you are using Lion, use Finder>Go Menu>Depress the "Option" key>Library. Drag the .plist file to your desktop, and log out/in or restart.
Next, make sure that you are not connected to the internet. Then to to your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Calendars Folder and remove any files with "Cache" as a part of the file name. Use the same method as listed above to get to the correct Library Folder. Log out/in, or restart and check iCal for functionality. -

Latest revision of firefox.
After using firefox for a while if I exit, parent.lock is locked and i have to reboot to reload firefox.
I have killed all firefox applications from task manager (usually there are none). and I have tried 3 different "file unlock" programs including unlocker to no avail.
I also recently installed a program that shows -all- open files, and parent.lock is not listed, and thus not closable/unlockable from there. -
I had been using 3.something without any problems. After I downloaded 4.0 my troubles started. I would be reading the news in Yahoo and would click on the next page or news item and would get the message ' Oops, well this is embarassing'. Or when I would be looking for something, it would just lock up. When it would finally get to where I wanted to be, it was taking longer and longer to respond. Today, I can't even get it to open at all. Nothing else was altered or added or deleted that might affect FF.
Hope this helps.

Help! Finder unable to open and dock not responding
Hi there,
I'm running osx 10.4.11 on my mbp 2.16 ghz, 1gb 667MhZ Ram. my mac was set up for me so that the Hard drive was partitioned. However, the other day the 'boot drive' was almost full and was slowing down the computer really badly, limiting it's functionality (couldnt open itunes etc etc) so i tried to move files onto the other side of the drive to free up a bit of space and seem to have caused a complete nightmare.
not only can i not open finder at all...all the icons on the desk top have disappeared and the dock doesnt respond at all, except for safari and system preferences. spotlight isnt working either and i've tried to repair everything using disk utility function on the intstall disk...and guess what...thats not working either, it tells me there's nothing to repair.
i really dont want to have to 're-format' the whole computer and am aware that I've probably moved a key thing to the wrong part of the computer. is there anyway i can fix this? am i able to access the computer without the need of an icon (a kind of ctrl/alt/delete function that you might use for a task manager on a pc?)
any ideas?
HEEELLLPPP!I think, as you've suspected, you moved critical items from the System, out of their necessary location. Unless you have another Mac, with firewire, you are probably going to have to reinstall the OS. This is not a reformat, just an install of the OS. I think it will be a lot easier than accessing that Mac with another Mac in Target Disk mode, then trying to find out which system files were moved.

Itunes program not responding and wants me to send error report
I have read many posts and answers to this problem and have tried about everything that I have read. When I try to open the itunes 7 program on my desktop, it says the program cannot respond and must shut down. It also asks if I wish to send an error report. I have installed and uninstalled the itunes 7 program several times. I have disabled my spyware applications and my norton antivirus programs and then tried to re-install and I get the same thing. I have also tried to install Quicktime 7 stand alone program and when I try to install and run this program another message comes up that states that it cannot install this Quicktime program because another more recent QT program is already installed on my computer. I am really starting to go crazy here. Can anyone help?

When I try to open the itunes 7 program on my

okay, let's try this first.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall
QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files
and folders.
1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or
double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
3. Open Program Files.
4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click
Delete from the shortcut menu.
5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and
QuicktimeVR.qtx.
7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your
PC by doing a repair install of
itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications
prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change"
and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the
PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch
properly now?
i tried all above as i am having the same problem, but i still get the message "itunes has encountered a problem and must close" and quicktime still does nothing when i try to open it... -
Also I am using a mid 2012 macbok air.

Powervault 124T stop responding at a precise hour
Good day to all.
I apologize if my English seems strange but I'm French and not that fluent.
We have a LTO4 powervault 124 T that is behaving strangely : the network stops responding at 3:30 PM GMT and doesn't restart until we power cycle the device. But the backup is working perfectly so there is no issue regarding data backup. The problem is limited to the network.
I tried to change the IP address, toggle between DHCP lease and fixed IP address, no result.
Depending on the time we cycle power, the network stops the same day or the day after, but always at about 3:30 GMT (it can be a few minutes before that time, but it's the time when I receive the alarm from our monitoring system).
I found that if I telnet to the PV address, I get an response from a 'pinon debug terminal' but I don't know the password.
So my questions are :
Can someone here direct me to a possible solution to get the network back to a stable state ? I think about upgrading the FW but I'm surprised when I read that the file I can download from Dell website is 320 Mb big.
How to know the telnet password ? Not sure it can help me troubleshooting the problem but I'm curious to see what this terminal can provide.
Best regards.Hi again,
I still suspect a faulty USB port.
Your response is still a bit confusing, so just to be sure:
- Did you also try a USB port on the backside of your Mac?
(if your keyboard is usually connected to the frontside, and you normally plug the mouse into the keyboard, it doesn't help to try testing it by plugging it directly in the front port, if this port is faulty, it's still the same port. If this is your situation, definitely try a port on the back)
- When you connected the other (older) mouse and keyboard, they were initially not recognized, but they were after rebooting, so did they function properly after this reboot? Did you connect these on the same port you usually connect your Logitec and keyboard to, or did you try different ports?
- Do you have access to another mouse and or keyboard, which is 100% sure known to work perfectly on another computer? If yes, try this on your mac.
- When you tried the mouse and keyboard on the Macbook Air, did you try it long enough to be 100%sure they work fine? Let's say at least 3-5 times longer then the average freezing intervals on your mac? (If you just tested briefly, you can't be sure.)
- How does it freeze? The pointer just stops moving? or do you see a spinning beachball?
Another thing:
You are posting in the Power Mac forum
you should actually post this in the Mac Pro forum
https://discussions.apple.com/community/desktop_computers/mac_pro
although they look similar, the older Power Mac line were equiped with IBM PPC processor(s), and the newer Mac Pro line features Intel CPU's.
You will likely get more help if you post in the right forum, which is more active.
You can refer to this thread though -
ITunes 10.6.1 x64 regularly stops responding.
Hello -
My name is Erick and I'm an ACMT/Network Engineer; Apple-certified, but not Apple-employed.
I have experienced an issue with iTunes 10.6 in general that has not been resolved by the latest update to 10.6.1. Upon opening the iTunes application, it initially responds but within 15 seconds freezes and is Not Responding. The unresponsiveness lasts up to five full minutes, then the program begins working again. The issue appears to begin as the iTunes Match cloud icon begins animating and checking for updates to my music library.
The same situation also occurs regularly if/when I make changed to a Smart Playlist. The program stops responding for up to five full minutes, then works properly.
Here's some additional information about what I've already attempted in efforts to fix the issue. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for how I might remedy this issue? While it's not crippling my use of the application entirely, it does cause unexpected headaches and delays, and it'd be great to fix it.
I've attempted to resolve the issue by opening a new library and using it temporarily to test, rebuilding the library by starting fresh and importing from my iTunes Library file, and I've also attempted to use iTunes 10.6.1 from a different user account. Finally, I loaded iTunes 10.6.1 onto my external troubleshooting drive which is running the same OS. I've seen the issue persist in each situation. I've also attempted to run iTunes in 32-bit mode as I experienced some success with this fix related to other issues in the past.
I am using an iMac 27" with the quad i7, 16GB, and a 1TB hard drive. All of my music is on iTunes Match and none of it is being stored locally on this machine. My TV and Movies are being stored on an external 2TB drive, as is the iTunes Library file itself.
I would be happy to provide any logs or additional information that could help resolve this problem. I appreciate any assistance and hope to have this resolved at some point. My iMac is typically on 24/7 as it operates as a streaming server for services like StreamToMe, SugarSync, Plex, and other file services. Additionally, iTunes is typically open 24/7 to provide streaming ability to my Apple TVs (1080p versions), though I do have a scheduled task which exits and re-opens iTunes at 4:30AM to prompt syncing of my iOS devices before I head to work (putting the latest unwatched media on them).
I'm sure some of this is unnecessary or extraneous information, but I wanted to be thorough in my explanation and context. Thanks again for your assistance, everyone.I have resolved my issue with iTunes' unresponsiveness and wanted to post the solution for anyone who might be experiencing similar symptoms. It was really quite simple to fix, I just didn't see it for what it was:
iTunes Match was causing iTunes to stop responding for several minutes at a time, and several times a day.
iTunes Match - which also forces Genius Mode to be on (something that used to cause my iTunes 10.5 to freeze before I turned it off) - would regularly attempt to refresh my database of 21,000 matched songs (none of which were stored on the computer - just in the cloud) and when it would attempt to update or refresh that library, the program would stop responding.
The constant queueing of iTunes Match / Genius also caused iTunes to consume a significant amount of RAM - something that was also causing issues and which I posted about in another discussion.
So, the simple solution was this: Turn iTunes Match off and iTunes quits freezing.
Now, that of course completely eliminates the usefulness of iTunes Match since the music is no longer accessible on this machine in this iTunes Library. So how to restore its usefulness without recreating the problem? Slightly more aggravating, but still working right: I created a separate, fresh new library and named it iTunes Match. When I need music, I hold option when selecting the iTunes app and select my Match Library, which has NOTHING else in it but iTunes Match. When I'm done with the music, I switch back to my 24/7 media streaming library that has my 2TB of TV Shows & Movies (and device sync relationships) in it.
It doesn't seem like iTunes Match causes freezing and RAM ballooning all by itself, it just seems like in a library that's also full of other stuff, it's the final straw that kills the performance. Split the libraries up and things seem to work really well in both.
Not a perfect solution, but until the next release of iTunes, this may be the best bet. I hope this helps someone else out there, but it at least cleared up my issue. Thanks for reading.
