Startup 10g Express with IE7

I just downloaded and installed 10g Express.
Then I went to the "Go to database homepage" -- but I can't, because I'm getting an error the IE7 cannot display the web page.
I just installed IE7 2 days ago, and, obviously, something isn't set right.
What should I do to get started here? Have I totally missed something, or have I (already) screwed up something?
Regards,
Chuck Billow

Have you tried to connect to the database using SQL*PLUS? Are you sure the database and the listener are up and running?

  • Is it possible to enable Java in oracle 10g express with the oracle jvm?

I've oracle 10g express installed. I would like to create java stored procedures in a schema. But, how do I have the database java-enabled?

    It might be possible.
Realize, however, that the Oracle JVM is a component of the Standard Edition One and higher - so to be able to use it you need to license Standard Edition One or higher.
If you are going to violate the license anyway, why not stick with an Edition that contains the JVM.

  • Accessing Oracle 10g Express with the SqlDbx IDE

Hi, I downloaded Oracle Express a few weeks back.
I finally got round to doing something with it.
I also installed a free IDE called SqlDbx that I was recommended.
When I start up SqlDbx it prmpts me for DBMS Type - I select Oracle Server from a drop down.
Then for the Server I select XE.
There are then 3 boxes for Schema, User, Password.
I dont remember setting anything up when I installed Oracle XE so leave these blank.
I then click OK to connect but get an error logon denied.
Do you know what the default schema, user and password is when you install XE or do you need to do something else to setup them up, if so what?
Is there a better way/tool(free) I could use instead of SqlDbx to connect to the database server?
I checked the service was running in the Windows task manager and it is so that proably isnt the problem.
    thanks.

    Hi,
Do you know what the default schema, user and password is when you install XE or do you need to do something else to setup them up, if so what?Depending on your setup you might want to connect to the "HR" schema containing some demo data. Otherwhise, there are a few administrative/technical accounts you can use to test your connection and for administrative tasks (e.g., creating a new database user). The administrative accounts would be "SYS" or "SYSTEM" using the password you've entered in the installer.
There is a command line client (sqlplus) to connect these users and create your custom database account, or the database management application that you can access using the "Get Started" link created by the XE installer. Of course, you can also use an IDE.
Either way, I'd recommend to start with the [url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17781_01/admin.112/e18585/toc.htm]Getting Started Guide from the XE documentation library. It's pretty straight forward and contains step by step instructions for exactly the topics you seem to be searching for.
Is there a better way/tool(free) I could use instead of SqlDbx to connect to the database server? There is [url http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/overview/index.html]Oracle SQL Developer, which is available free of charge as well. It is licensed with your database, i.e. you can use it with any properly licensed Oracle Database, including XE.

  • Connect Oracle Form Builder 10g to Oracle Database 10g Express

    Hi,
    I'm new to Oracle.
I've installed both form builder and database 10g express.
I tried to connect form builder to HR sample database in 10g express with the following:
    user name: hr
    password: hr
    database: hr
but I received message: ora-12154: tns could not resolve the connect identifier specified.
Can anyone help me on that? Do I need to change the tnsnames.ora?
If yes, what should I need to change in order to connect to the HR sample?
    Thank you.

Yes you need to have an entry in the tnsnames.ora file for you database service name or sid. The service name or sid is usually XE unless you changed it when you installed 10g express.

  • 10g Express Edition on Windows 2008 Enterprise R2 x64 with Active Directory

I have successfully installed the 10g Express Edition on Windows 2008 Ent. r2 x64 with Microsoft Active Directory Domain Controller but i could not be able to run http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex
Although i have run the http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex on my another Windows 2008 R2 x64 ant WITHOUT Active Directory Domain Controller Role.
i think its related with AD Domain server role of my server, because i run that on same config and operation without Active Directory Domain Controller role.
Can anyone help about this issue?
    thanks in advance

I have experienced the same problem - running 10g Express on a Win 2008 (32-bit). When not being a Domain controller, the install was fine. When installing after the server had been given the Domain Controller role (+the required DNS), it failed. NO FIREWALLS are involved on the server. Seems like Oracle Express has problems being installed in this kind of environment - independent of x32 or x64 bit OS.

    Hello,
I have just installed oracle 10g express edition and I have a problem with the script editor. I can write anything in the window that appears below buttons undo, redo and find, It is like disabled. I use windows XP, Firefox 2.0 ( I have also tried with Iexplorer and It does not work either). I have javascript enabled.
anyone knows what is the problem?
Later,I have installed it in a virtual machine of Windows 2003 Server and It works well but I`d rather use it in my Microsoft XP
    Thank you very much
    Fernando Martínez

It looks like you can fix this if you replace the codearea.xbl.xml and codearea.iframe.html files in the
/i/editor folder with files from an Apex 2.2.1 installation - such as the one on apex.oracle.com.
Since I don't know what the licensing implications are, I will let you figure out the details.

what is the use with that.....i don't have any idea when work with get started.....i just follow the instruction given on help and create a table....
what is the actual use of express edition???

    Hi,
10g express edition (XE) is free database version of 10g. Application Express (Apex) is already installed to it.
Apex version that comes with XE is 2.1.
You can upgrade it to version 3.2.1 witch is latest one. New version of Apex comes with some nice features like interactive reports.
If you have installed XE you are ready to go developer Apex applications and practice Oracle database

  • Java Connection Pooling issue with Oracle 10g Express Edition

    Hello
I have a Java based web application that uses the Oracle 10g Express Edition database. I am using a connection pool to get connections to the database.
I use the NetBeans IDE and run my web application on the bundled Tomcat server(5.5.7) that comes with the IDE. Though when I initially run the application from the IDE, the connection pool is set up fine, when I recompile my java code and try to run the application again, I get the following error each time:
Listener refused the connection with the following error:
ORA-12516, TNS:listener could not find available handler with the
    matching protocol stack.
The logs before the error shows up, indicate that the connection pool object is fine and gives me the number of available connections and the number of active connections and so on, which I have printed from the constructor of the Connection Pool class:
    For e.g.:
    Cache size = 17
    Available Connections = 17
    Cache Limit = 1000
    Active size = 0
However, if I kill my Tomcat server process and run the application again, it works fine with no error.
I looked around for possible causes and solutions and all I could find
was increasing the processes parameter value in the init.ora file. I have increased the parameter value to from 100 to 20000 now, in increments of 500/1000 each time but it hasnt worked so far.
Someone else suggested that I increase the size of my connection pool; I initially had it set to a minimum limit of 5, an initial limit of 10 and a maximum limit of 1000. However if I set the Initial Limit to anything above 17 connections, I see the following log on the Bundled Tomcat log and my application doesn't run at all:
    Log: Loading JDBC Driver : class=oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver ...
    Log: Loaded JDBC Driver
Log: Connection with URL=jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:xe as username/password
Error code not handled : 0
Exception Message :java.sql.SQLException: Listener refused the connection with the following error:
ORA-12519, TNS: no appropriate service handler found
The Connection descriptor used by the client was:
    localhost:1521:xe
    // End of log
And the Bundled Tomcat server automatically shuts down.
Again the System.out statements from the Connection Pool class constructor show that the cache has been initialized and that currently there are free connections available in the pool.
    E.g.
    Cache size = 18
    Available Connections = 18
    Cache Limit = 1000
    Active size = 0
Has anyone faced anything similar? Could someone please suggest what I'm doing wrong here and what I should do to set right this problem?

hi again. first a have to apologize. i have oracle
database express edition 10g from school,so i dont
have registered version. When I said 'register' I didn't mean have it licensed, Oracle XE doesn't require any kind of license registration, it is free. By registering it I meant a technical issue. Once the database is started it tries to contact the listener at 1521 port, once contacted the oracle instance registers itself against it, and if it is successful you will have the administrator's page initialized and ready to access at the default 8080 port.
when i type SQL commands, command line wrote me
    SP2-0734:unknown command beginning ENTERED COMMAND
Could you please specify which command did you try to enter?
    >
and when i open RUN DATABASE, command line wrote
    C:\OracleDatabase\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN
net started OracleServiceXE - system error 5, accessdenied
What do you mean with 'RUN DATABASE'?

  • Installing Discoverer with Database Version Oracle 10g Express Edition

    Hello,
Is it possilbe to install Discoverer with database version Oracle 10g Express Edition? I have Oracle Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.1.0 on my Windows XP machine as well. If so, can someone please provide me a link to the Discoverer download.
    Regards,
    Kelly

Note that the Personal Edition of the database is 'the most powerful' version, in that it contains all features and options of the Enterprise Edition (expect RAC and Enterprise Manager packs)
As such, the Personal Edition, at a mere USD$400-500 is one of the most cost effective for-fee products that Oracle has in it's inventory. It is targeted at the developer. And it comes with the complete set of Sample Data, whereas XE has a very limited subset (since it does not support all functionality).
Express Edition is indeed free, but it is not supported, and can not be patched. OTOH it does have a lighter footprint.
Again, I am not sure whether Disco 11g is compatible with Express Edition. (It's on my schedule for December ...)

  • Initial Login Problems with Oracle 10g Express

    Hi,
Can anybody help, im a student trying to use oracle 10g Express for a project, my problem is the express will not allow me to login as an administrator from the word go. I'm using the right user name and password and every time I login the page just refreshes itself with no other prompts. If i type the wrong credentials i get a message saying so and if using the Hr user name and password it says its locked as it should. Ive used the sql prompt to login and this works so i no the password and user name are correct, but id like to use the GUI if i could. Ive unistalled and reinstalled twice still no joy. Any suggestions?

Hey again, thanks for your replies, Yes i have been using SYSTEM and SYS with a password of oracle in the GUI interface. When i use the SQL prompt i use the following to login:
    SQL> conn system/oracle
    connected.
    SQL> Show User
    USER is "SYSTEM"
This says to me that i have logged into the database but still i have no luck in doing the same through the GUI interface using the same credentials.

  • Using Oracle Developer Suite 10g with the 10g Express Edition Database

I'm new to Oracle and I'm taking an SQL college level course using a text book entitled "Guide to Oracle 10g". Our text book came with Oracle Developer Suite 10g (9.0.4.0.1) but no database. We adopted the 10g Express Edition (XE) as the database. I have both the database and the Developer Suite loaded on Windows XP Pro. I've been using the database for months now and it runs fine and the Developer Suite installed OK.
However, I would like to use some of the Developer Suite apps (for learning purposes) with the database but I can't seem to log on to the database through the Developer apps when I open them and use my 10g XE database user-name and password. For starters, I would like to see if I could use the edition of SQLPlus (release 9.0.1.4.0) that comes with the Developer Suite because it has configuration options that are not available in the SQLPlus command line version that 10g XE contains (which otherwise works fine).
When I open SQLPlus (Developer Suite Version) and try to log on with my database user name and password (and no host string), I get the error:
    ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
I did search the discussion forum first and also reviewed some Oracle pdf's including the concepts pdf but came up empty. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions on how to succeed or a determination of the compatibility of 10g XE with the Developer Suite. Thanks kindly.

I think your last idea might be helpful at this point and in case it matters, they are both installed on a sinlge machine (laptop). Thanks in advance:
