Startup Hang Problem

I had a look through Color tutorials when I first upgraded to FCS 2 a couple of months ago. All was good and the app worked perfectly.
I now have 1.0.1 loaded and went to do my first proper grade the other day.
When I 'sent to Color' within FC the Color splash screen appeared and I got the 'spinning Color wheel of death' for a few hours before finally forcing a quit.
I have since tried rebooting, shutting off external devices etc etc to no avail the app just hangs at startup.
Does anyone have any ideas ?
Thanks in advance.

The beachball of death usually means that there is something in the sequence that is non-negotiable.
I have been compiling a list of common editing practices that are guaranteed to kill your COLORist.
1. Mix video base-frame rates.
2. Imbed multi-layer sequences.
3. Use Multiclip extensively.
4. Do lots of off-speed Motion tabs, in fact do lots of filters and effects.
5. Never use an opacity where a "Dissolve" tab will hide the true in/out points of a clip
6. Plug up the user interface with at least 20 layers... most of them empty.
7. Pile up alternative shots.... then make them transparent.
8. Use slashes, question marks, asterisks, all kinds of punctuation in your Browser for naming clips... and especially imbed those characters in the original capture video, then RENAME them again!
9. Freeze frames. Those are good.
10. Freely imbed codecs of wildly varying aspect ratio and bitrate.
Some of these are not as difficult to weed out as others, but some are stealth bombs. And they will all either stop the project from loading, or, if you're unfortunate enough to succeed in getting the timeline to appear, will either corrupt on render or Send TO... or XML out. It will be at the most inconvenient point in the workflow, whichever is the most important to you.
But one of the first things you should do is roll back to release 1.0.
Then start exporting bits and pieces until you find out what the deal-breaker is.
Good luck. Welcome to the club.

  • 27" iMac startup hangs freezes

I have a 27" iMac and am having trouble starting up. I get the startup chime but the startup hangs or freezes and the iMac tries to restart again after a little while.
So I tried starting up from a Techtools CD in the external drive (there is no internal CD drive on the iMac). Unfortunately the iMac would not start from the CD and the CD is now stuck in the external drive. I was able to eject the CD by holding down the mouse button or trackpad while restarting. I tried starting up from an OS X 10.6.3 install DVD but it didn't seem to read it while holding down the C key at startup.
I tried a PRAM zap (holding down the Option + Cmd + P + R keys for two or three chimes) but the startup still hangs freezes.
I tried starting up holding down Cmd + S to boot Unix but I don't really know Unix so only entered exit.
I tried starting up holding down Cmd + R which I think is the recovery system but the startup still got stuck.
Holding down the Shift key while starting up brings up the "safe mode" and a grey bar which didn't fill before it disappeared and the startup froze.
Holding down the Option key while starting up brought up the hard drive to select as the startup disk but startup still hung.
Any ideas or help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

Thanks for getting back to me quickly.
I get the startup chime when the iMac starts up, the little daisy goes around a few times but then gets stuck. The iMac will shut itself down and continue to try to restart.
Holding down Shift during startup brings up the safe mode grey bar on the bottom of the screen but this fills only to about one-third before the startup freezes.
I tried starting up holding down the C key with a OS X 10.6.4 (Snow Leopard) install DVD in an external CD/DVD drive but just as you said, it would not boot from that.
I tried holding down the D key at startup to perform the Apple Hardware Test. Even the extended test did not detect any hardware problems.
Holding Cmd + R during startup would not start the recovery mode for me. However, holding Option down at startup did give me the choice of the Recovery 10.8.2 partition. Unfortunately, this froze as it was starting up too.
So I tried your suggestion of holding down Opt + Cmd + R to boot from Apple's remote servers. This started up but even then froze too.
I think you might be right that it could be a logic board problem. So I will take it in for repair.
Thanks Ralph, I much appreciate your help with this.

  • IWork '09 startup hang...proxy issue?

iWork hangs at startup anytime that I launch the applications when I'm behind a firewall. I can reproduce this problem very easily by successfully starting up the application on home home network and encountering problems anytime I launch the applications under a VPN connection or at the office.
Is iWork trying to check in with iwork.com at launch? If so, is there any way to disable this behavior or transparently handle the proxy issue without my having to edit preferences every time I switch network settings?
    Thanks for reading this!
    -Jamie

I was able to eliminate the iWork '09 startup hang by properly configuring my global HTTP proxy. I ran "netstat -an" from the console during the hang and found that iWork was attempting to connect to one of the iWork.com servers at startup.
    Here's what I saw:
    hostname:~ username$ netstat -an
    Active Internet connections (including servers)
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address (state)

I grasp that after updating from Windows 8 to 8.1 your system hangs and is taking a long time to startup.  You have tried to do a Windows restore but you only saw a restore point for 22-03-2015.
I suggest you do a HP PCs - Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 8) to reinstall the original Windows 8.
Once you have completed the refresh process here is a link to HP PCs - Updating Windows 8 to 8.1 as a guide.

  • Power mac G4 - Startup hangs at gray screen

    Hello all,
I have a Power mac G4 - mirrored drive door model.  512mb of RAM; 833mghz - about 50+ gigabytes of storage remaining.
I recently starting using this mac again, here is what happened:
Power mac G4 was running 10.2.1 - had never been updated; it also was capable of running classic os9 (even though I never used it)
Started using machine again a few weeks ago; let "software update" install 10.2.8 update - everything worked fine
Put computer into target disk mode to transfer files to my new macbook pro (13") - using firewire connection
While trying to connect (migration assistant) - window froze will calculating the amount of space that the "user" on the power mac totalled - power mac appeared to be frozen
Did a hard reset / power down of the power mac G4
Upon restart, power mac G4 goes through all start up functions up to gray screen with apple logo (with spinning wheel) and then goes to a darker gray screen (without the logo) and spinning wheel
Dark gray screen with spinning wheel hangs indefinitely - I've let it stay there for hours on end hoping it will resolve but it doesn't
Here's what I have done so far:
Placed power mac G4 into target disk mode again in conjunction with macbook proI can see all the files on the power mac G4 (and have already copied them to the macbook pro) - so I don't think the hard drive is damaged
Disconnected all non-apple peripheral devices - only had a card installed in the back - but took that out - issue persisted (did not replace card in back)
Removed one non-apple RAM stick - issue persisted
Replaced non-apple RAM stick and removed apple RAM stick - issue persisted
    Reset PRAM
Started computer in single-user modeused fsck and tried to have system check/fix issue; no matter how many times I re-run the command to repair it never comes back with a message saying no issues found - instead it keeps returning with a message saying that the issue was repaired "system modified"
Started computer in verbose modestartup seems to hang when this appears:
"/System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOs/loginwindow: (ipc/send) invalid destination""LayState: cannot map display interlocks."
"/System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOs/loginwindow: kCGErrorFailure: CGSNewConnection""Cannot connect to server"
"/System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOs/loginwindow: kCGErrorInvalidConnection""Connection called with invalid connection"
Tried re-installing with system discsThe only discs I received with the power mac G4 when I purchased are orange and say "SSW version 8.6" on it" ("iMac Software Restore" and "iMac Software Install")
Computer does not respond when holding down "C" key at startup with either disc in the drive
When holding down "option" key at startup, the computer shows the bootable choices as ONLY the internal HD - not either of the CDs I mentioned above; I wonder if it no longer recognizes the original CDs because I updated to 10.2.8 from 10.2.1 before the issue?I also have an install disc for OS X 10.4.7 - for a friend's iMac (G5)
When holding down "C" key at startup with the OS X 10.4.7 in the drive I get a kernel panic
When holding down "option" key at startup, the computer shows the bootable choices as the OS X 10.4.7 in the drive AND the internal HD
When I choose the OS X 10.4.7 in the drive I get a kernel panic
When I choose the internal HD the startup hangs at the gray screen I mentioned above
At this point, I don't know what else to do.  I believe the computer is still good because I can see everything on it when I put it into target disk mode; it just refuses to make it through the startup/login process.  I have read discussion threads that suggest re-installing the OS using another computer - but I don't know how to do that.  I also wondered if there was a way to tell the computer to re-install the software using the original CDs - but from the command line (in single-user mode)?
    Someone - PLEASE HELP!

Sorry, SU Single User Mode, OF Open Firmware as these 2 where mentioned before.
As a test, let's try disconnecting the HD & see if it booys to any mode without it attached.
It could be the User's files or login messed up, if you want to try something a little more desperate...

It'll boot like a newly setup Mac, but all your stuff should still be there once filling out the stuff.
Except you could just use Target mode and move or rename that file.

  • Hanging problem

My Nokia asha 200 is hanging very frequently and gets switched off automatically and does not switch on by pressing the power button.Every times it happens I have to remove the battery & then the phone starts and after 5-10 min it again hangs.
Also I went to Nokia care 4 times where they just updated the software but after this the hanging problem still continues and It's really frustrating me. I have tried all solutions such as hard and soft reset but the problem continues.
I am really fed up with this problem so please provide me a good solution as soon as possible. Software version-11.95 Product code of my phone is-059K959

To prevent freezing or lagging/slow response on any BlackBerry, the most important practice you can adopt is to be sure to CLOSE applications when you are finished using them.
If you just hit the red "end call" key to go back to the home screen the application actually stays open and running in the background. If you do this repeatedly you will have lots of apps open and consequently your memory will get used up. Lack of memory is the biggest reason your BlackBerry slows to a crawl or locks up. If you get into the habit of actually using the menu key to close the applications this will at least slow down this memory-clogging process. You still may have to do a battery pull or use the "Quickpull" app once in a while when things get slow.
To check what applications are running on your device in the background, press the Menu key then choose Switch Applications. You will see the icons of each application there.
So now, check your applications running in the background. There are commonly four or five applications that will always be running (Messages, Call Logs/Phone, BlackBerry Messenger, Homescreen, and the Browser; there are other third party applications such as BeeJive, and BlackBerry Alerts which will also run in the background which you cannot close if you want them to operate). Make certain that the browser is NOT on an active webpage (open the browser and choose Menu > Close). Close any other applications that do not need to be running (the camera or a game you were playing or Google Maps).

  • Import DNG Hang Problem with OSX not with Win 7

I installed LR4 on both my Mac Pro and Win7 machines for comparison purposes and have encountered a problem with importing files and converting to DNG format with OSX that is not present with Win7.
    OSX machine
first gen Intel MAC Pro + 8GB memory multiple disks OSX 10.7.2
Win7 Machine - latest set of MS patches installed
Sandy Bridge Processor I5 2500K + 8GB memory multiple disks
    On both machines:
I am importing 12 test images taken with my Nikon D300 and using a Kingston USB card reader
Copying to a data only disk that does not contain the catalog
Convert to DNG with copy to a sub-directory
Renaming the files to DSC_0001.DNG sequence format
    Standard Previews
    Dont import suspected duplicated enabled
    No develop settings
Metadata with a simple copyright statement
OSX seemed to import the 12 DNG's ok as they all showed up on the Library grid screen... but the import seemed to hang before completion and no CPU was being consumed - this was prior to the previews being generated
I waited for 10 minutes with no CPU activity and then cancelled the Lightroom task, at that point LR4 generated the previews and everything looks fine, I can modify the DNG images and everything seems normal with them
With Win7 everything went as expected and completed in under 1 minute
I have screen shots available and I can reproduce this behaviour consistently on OSX

    UPDATE - Further testing
I tried to import the images into LR3 and it worked fine on OSX (I don't have LR3 on WIN7)
However when under LR4 the hanging problem also occurs if I do a straight copy as well (ie: Dont convert to DNG format)

  • Win 98SE Startup Logon Problem

All our Win 98SE had the startup logon problem when we migrated to Cisco 1240AP. Previously, we don't had this problem when we are still using the SMC AP.
When we want to login to windows 2000 Domain during startup, the system will complain that it can't find a DC and we had to click ok to proceed. Once login, we can see that it can detect the AP with good signal strength. Then we need to logoff and then only we can login to the Domain without any problem.
But when we restart the system to login to the Domain again, the same problem occurs. Only when you click ok to login without network and then logoff again to login without restart the system, then the PC can find the Domain and login without problem. All our PCs are using the static IP assignment with DNS and WINS configure.
We are currently using the DLink client wireless adapter and we had try to change to Belkin client wireless adapter with more recent Win98 driver but with the same problem.
Our Window XP don't had this issue. As i had said, previously when we are using a SMC AP, we don't had this problem.
Anyone here had the same problem that had a solution ?
    Thanks.

Yes. The solution was to upgrade to upgrade the customer's laptops to WinXP.
(Drive mappings were also a related issue).

  • Startup hangs at "Waiting for Internet Services"

I have a Quicksilver 800 and after a power outage when I tried to restart my Mac the startup hangs at "Waiting for Internet Services" and will not get to the login window. I ran a disk repair, permissions repair, and ran Disk Warrior with no luck. I'd appreciate any help you can give.

    William, welcome to Apple Discussions.
Will it boot from your system CD?
Is the Startup Disk set to start from your HD or a Network?
Many times after a power failure, the Mac won't startup & you have to do a PMU reset. See Mac PRAM, NVRAM, CUDA/PMU & Battery Tutorial

  • N79 hanging problem

I purchased N79 1.5 years back. Now a day, it hangs so frequently. It is annoying me too much as most of the time while trying to call during phone book search it hangs. I tried the below solutions to make clear
I reset the phone to factory settings using *#7370#. Once it hanged and it was not rebooting at all as caution given while doing factory reset. Then second time it was fine. No improvement…
Phone reset + Removed all the content from Memory card (4Gb) and formatted from phone. Then copied, only picture, video, message folders… No improvement…
Kindly suggest me how I can avoid hanging problem…

I have also same problem with my Nokia N79, I just cancelled sensor for automatic themes from cover. Just open back cover & stick some paper or plastic cello tape on four hole marks of covers wich r sensor for automatic themes to change colour of back cover same as theme colour. From 2 days I feel my mobile working fine without hanging ! so try it, all the best.

  • Extreme hang problem in Xperia T2 Ultra Dual after Lollipop Update.

Extreme hang problem in Xperia T2 Ultra Dual after Lollipop Update.Extreme and Irritating hang problem occurs after I have updated T2 Ultra Dual Phone with Lollipop Version.Kindly assist and also if Boot the device will it be solved via flashboot and unlock the bootloader?? Waiting for revert.Kindly revert.

Flashmode or Fastboot mode is only for those that wish to root and install a custom Rom or firmware, if that's what you want to do then head over to XDA - Howwever have you tried a system repair as this usualy fixes issues after an upgrade.
Performing a system repair using PC Companion will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone and erase all data so best to backup before you begin
Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the on screen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process
If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

  • Why does FF4.0 experience hang problems when the latest version of the Adobe Flash plugin is enabled?

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version of Adobe Flash plugin, determined that this is the only version of the plugin recognized by FF, and determined that there is no Adobe extension running. The hang problems occur when opening most all web pages or when clicking on the sidebar and last for 10 to 30+ seconds. If the plugin is disabled, then there are no hang problems.

New plugins have never been downloaded automatically by Firefox, but Firefox scans the registry to search for new plugins.
