Startup of Enterprise Portal - 2004s
Hi,
we did an Upgrade of our Enterprise Portal to NetWeaver 2004s SPS11. The startup of the Portal takes now more than 2 hours. The applications running on the SAP WAS are still the same as before the upgrade. We didn't deploy new applications. Are there any ideas what's the reason for this??
Thank you in advance.
Best Regards
Ines
Hi Ines,
Can you tell us the behavior of the server during the 2hr startup?
Is the CPU extremely busy? if so what is using the most CPU time?
How much memory is being consumed?
Please also examine the log file. Tell us what task it is getting to before there is a long wait during start up or is it continually writing to the logs?
Examining these items should give us some indication where to look as what maybe the cause.
Regards
Dan

Performance issue of BI Reports in SAP Enterprise portal -in SAPNW2004s
Dear friends,
We are integrating BI Reports in SAP Enterprise Portal 7.0 ( SAP NW- 2004s).The reports are running properly .But the issue here is reports are taking long time to open and leading it to performance effect.
Reports in BEX( Bi side) working lilttle better than EP platform.
And Even BI team is looking for ways to improve the performance.
Could you please share your ideas to implement in portal side to increase the performance.
Thanks and Regards
Ratnakar ReddyHello Mr. Reddy,
There are two possibilities for slow performance in BW reports, so we need to look into wether its slow in the BW system or at the frontend.
If the problem resides in the BW system then we should be able to trace the reports
and you can go for a SAP EW or GV sessin and SAP will provide recommendations.
If the problem resides at the frontend
Update the frontend servers to the latest frontend release.
Recommended Frontend Release 700
Recommended Frontend Patch 18
Update the frontend servers to the lates SAP GUI release as soon as possible.
Minimum Recommended SAP GUI Release 6.40
Your frontend PCs should fulfill the following requirements:
Each frontend PC should have 500 MHz and 128 MB main memory.
Because of a limit in the addressable memory, Windows 95 is not supported as Frontend OS for 3.X BW Systems. Please refer to SAP Notes 161993, 321973 and 366626 for details.
Please also check SAP Note 147519 "Maintenance strategy/ deadlines 'SAPGUI'".
If you still require any assistance from SAP support then raise a message under component ( probably BW-BEX-ET-WEB).
Provide your input, if you have any.
Thank you,

BI 7.0 Web Report and Enterprise Portal
Hi,
We have recently performed technical upgrade to BI 7.0
Now we would like to migrate web reports to NW2004s functionality. Is it necessary to configure inbuilt BI Portal before we can use web reports?
Best Regards,
URHi,
take a look at this note which describes how to setup BEx Web in SAP NetWeaver 2004s. All required steps are mentioned. Additionally, this note contains a checklist to check the installation and configuration.
SAP NetWeaver 2004s: Setting Up BEx Web
SAP Note Number: [917950 |https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes/sdn_oss_bw_sys/~form/handler%7b5f4150503d3030323030363832353030303030303031393732265f4556454e543d444953504c4159265f4e4e554d3d393137393530%7d]
In SAP NetWeaver 2004s, load is moved from AS-ABAP (BI-ABAP) to AS-Java (BI-Java). BI generates load on Portal (AS-Java), therefore BI users generate more load on Portal than normal Enterprise Portal users. See note 927530 for additional information about BI-Java sizing.
Which functionalities of BEx Web in SAP NetWeaver 2004s are requiring a Portal?
- New BEx Web Application Designer (Unicode, Command Wizard, ...)
- Exporting to PDF and Printing
- Integrated Planning
- Drag&Drop (Analysis Web Item)
- Web Items (Container Layout, Menu Bar, Tab Pages, Button Group, ...)
- Formatted Reporting with BEx Report Designer
- Document Integration with storage in Knowledge Management
For details, see Release Notes for Usage Type BI-Java under http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/index.htm
If you don't want to use the new BEx Web functionality, you can still use BEx Web 3.5 Runtime that is running only with Usage Type AS-ABAP.

Enterprise Portal 6.0 with ECC 5.0
Hi,
I know there's an article here "Configuring ESS in SAP Enterprise Portal 6.0" but it seems like it's making a connection to R/3 4.6C.
I am looking into connecting the EP to an ECC 5.0, which already has the ITS integrated into it.
Any idea how this is being done?

Running WDA ABAP on my Enterprise Portal
I have two systems (Netweaver 2004s Java and Netweaver 2004s ABAP) running on two different computers. I have developed an ABAP WDA, tested it and works fine in my SE80->Test Application.
Question 1:
I want to run this now on my Enterprise Portal (Netweaver 2004s Java). Have any of you done this? If so, can you please send me a step-by-step procedure.
Question 2:
I am disappointed by the fact, that Netweaver 2004s ABAP does not have an Enterprise Portal unlike Java. Can anybody tell me if there is a workaround that I dont know of, so that I dont have to go through the process in Question 1 to see my WDA ABAP run on a Portal.
Thank you in advance for your time, effort and generosity to share your valuable knowledge. Its greatly appreciated!
NageshHi. You will need to set up a system configuartion in your portal to access the ABAP stack.
1) First you need to set up the portal so that it knows the system that you want to connect to. Here is the documenation for setting it up. Once you setup the system, you simply create an iView. When you create the iView it will ask you which system you want to connect to for this WDA app.
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/5a/0339040c0b11d7b84800047582c9f7/frameset.htm
You will want to use the "template selection" at the appropriate point in the system config wizard. Also you probably want to use the "SAP system using dedicated application server"
2) The portal is implemented on the java stack only, there is not portal that runs on the abap stack. I'm not sure that SAP plans to create there own portal framework on the ABAP stack. Even the portal on the java stack was purchased.
