Startup Pop up with macintosh HD and Recovery 10.9

on the odd occasion for absolutely no reason when I start my macbook pro running the latest mavericks OS version, the first screen that comes up when starting up from power off shows two options to choose either "Macintosh HD" or "Recovery 10.9" with "select network" below them, I dont understand why it keeps coming up every once in a while or what it even does although I'll usually select macintosh hd and everything will be ok but I'd just like to know whats up if anyone had any comments. The OP is on 10.8, there are no discs, but there should be a recovery partition.

Pop-up with Message Log and ability to correct

Hi All,
I am working on a Dialog Program which gets the messages that occur on validating the fields of this program into a message table.
I am able to display the messages one after the other by looping through the message table.
Is there a way that I could display a pop-up with the Message Log and provide a button ('Correct Errors') there to correct the errors encountered which (when clicked) would take me to the field responsible for that message, while the message appears in the status bar.

Hi,
you can use FM POPUP_TO_DECIDE to display error message and 2 buttons (one with "Correct Errors" and other "Cancel") and "SET CURSOR FIELD CURSORFIELD" to positionate in the respective field (that you must associate to the message)

Help with Lenovo Rescue and Recovery 4.31

I work for a company that uses Ghost images for deploying laptops. We have recently decided to try the Lenovo Rescue and Recovery software built in with the new T520s when doing our local backup before sending the laptop out to the user.
What we decided to try is building the base image, creating the backup locally on the computer using R&R, dumping the image to our server using Ghost and then imaging other laptops with that image.
Our reasoning for creating the local backup first, is that time is not that big of an issue when creating the initial image, and neither is imaging other laptops because we create spares that we have built and ready to go out. What we would then do is apply any updates since the laptop was imaged, and have R&R create an incremental backup again, which would only take a few minutes and the laptop would be ready to ship.
Upon using this method, we have found that you cannot view the original first backup created in R&R on a laptop that it was not created with. The backup content is there, as the drive space is used and booting into a DOS prompt and browsing the C:\RRbackups\SZ\<UID>\ folder shows the data.
What I'm looking to know is how the R&R software generates that UID, and if anything can be done to allow the other laptops to recognize, whether it's rename the folder with a UID that the new laptop is going to use, or if it's something within the software files that's changable. Or even the registry.
Any ideas or suggestions would be great.

R&R is a little system specific. How many systems are you expecting to deploy using the method you describe?
It might be worth taking a look at the "Big Brother" of R&R namely Image Ultra Builder as it should be able to, with ease, realise exactly that which you are aiming for.

Using AlertSec on a machine with IBM Rescue and Recovery

As an idenpendent contractor I'm required to secure my laptop with AES256 encryption. I've done this by subscribing to a web based service known as AlertSec. AlertSec uses Checkpoint (Pointsec) encryption which allows you to encrypt the dirve on your machine without all of the other related administrative overhead.
Recently I noticed that the Pointsec system tray icon was not displayed. I reported the condition to AlertSec and was advised as follows:
"I can see you have IBM Lenovo and looking at the list of installed applications Rescue and Recovery is among them, this is the IBM recovery software that is currently not compatible with Alertsec and will cause problems if you have not fully removed the Recovery partitions".
I'm not sure as to what AlertSec is referring to when they mention "the recovery partitions"
I don't want to remove the Rescue and Recovery app and find that I can no longer access my work or worse. If anyone has insight or previous experience with this kinda scenario please let me know.

you did not mention what release of Rescue and Recovery you have installed. In RnR 3.0 there was an update to make compatible with Pointsec ("Bootmanager updates have been incorporated to make the Rescue and Recovery application compatible with Pointsec software. "). Also, Utimaco also provides an AES encryption SW package that is compatible with RnR.....

Startup screen freezes with vertical lines and a restart message

So this problem just started a couple of days ago it seems to be getting worse. I'm getting the same look, with all kinds of squares and lines on screen, although mine starts while the computer is running with color reversals and lines on the working space. Then I get a freeze and have to do a hard re-start with the power button, and finally, what you're seeing. I did notice that when I unplugged the power adaptor, the problem has gone away, at least for the past 30 minutes or so.
I originally thought it was overheating, since if I shut it down and left it, it would re-start normally after 15 minutes, but crash again in 10 minutes of running. Then I came here, and read about the video card. That could be, but why only when plugged into the power adaptor? The power adaptor has been acting up lately, in that the light is sometimes off, sometimes amber when screen shows 100%, like that.
I'll plug back and in and see what happens, and put it here. 4:53 PM Saturday.
I'll keep fooling around with it, and report back here. I'll also make an appointment for next week with the nearest Apple store - 1.5 hour drive. Grrrr. I'm home with the flu this weekend. I'm tempted to go now and shake everyone's hand.

Direct-Path with (No)Archivelog and recovery

In a datawarehouse environment, our database is in NOARCHIVELOG. When we do a Insert /*+ APPEND */ on a table withLOGGING attribute, a miniminal redo log is generated.
We want to switch the database in ARCHIVELOG mode, and change the attribute of the table to NOLOGGING .
My question is, does instance recovery will work ?
I made a matrix of the effect of a crash while a direct-path Insert operation :

Yes instance recovery will work regardless of direct-path and nologgging usage.
Here is an example with Oracle XE on Windows (database runs in ARCHIVELOG mode and FORCE_LOGGING is not set):

Problems with custom roms and recovery

Hello, recntly ive unlocked the bootloader of my xperia z2 and flashed xzdualrecovery and paranoid android. a few days later paranoid android had problems with calling so ive decided to flash another rom so i downloaded the aroma installer of existenz ultimate 3.0 and tried to install it with cwm recovery. it didnt work on cwm so i tried to install twrp with a 1-click twrp flashtool. i didnt get the twrp recovery working so i ened up still having cwm. then i rebooted my phone into flashmode/fastboot mode to flash my recovery with fastboot witch didnt work either. i booted back to cwm and flashed cm11s for the xperia z2. but then when i started booting up into thesystem my phone stuck in the bootanimation, so i tried to flash the boot.img from the rom but my phone wont enter fastboot mode.

Firefox pops up with "alot" page and I have asked for it to be gone ( don't want to use it at all and it is invasive), how do I do so?

The update keeps putting "alot" at the forefront and asking me if I want it. Every time I say no and it comes back. Every time I open the browser I have to close this new window and it is getting to the point where i do not want to use Firefox as my browser anymore.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
*Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
*Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

I agree with the above comment.
Also, I think you can't change a partition that's at the beginning. The steps to rearrange the partition without reinstalling will be time consuming than backing up and reinstalling. But if you want to try it (highly recommend backing up the data first)
format the free space as it's partitioned (partition 1)
clone the data to the new partition (partition 1) created in step 1 (you can use carboncopycloner to clone)
after confirming the data is fully cloned to partition 1, format and merge the remaining partition
I've done it before multiple times with success, but always backup your data if you are unsure.

HT1386 I plugged my Ipod into my laptop and it wont go off the apple logo, when i open itunes it wont even come up with my ipod and recovery and DFU mode dont change things. How can i fix this?

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

NoScript will not block this script, and it's popping up with an increasing and alarming frequency. It's completely crippled my Firefox, and getting the a large enough window between unresponsive script warnings to get the Troubleshooting Information from Firefox took me a good 20 minutes. It's a very persistent script. I've already re-installed Firefox and restarted my computer, and scanned for viruses/malware. I'm on a Mac, if it makes a difference.

At startup: choose Macintosh HD or Recovery HD, choose network

I turned on my computer this morning and got a grey screen with two icons: Macintosh HD and Recovery HD. There was a drop-down box underneath asking me to choose my network. When I selected my network, another screen appeared with the network name and a field for the network password. I set up this network 10 months ago and do not remember the password.
Thankfully, one of my neighbours has an unsecured network, so I chose that one and my computer booted up as usual.
I wanted to know if this was a one-time crazy occurance so I shut down and started my computer again. The same thing happened again. And no, I did not remember to check my network password in Keychain.
I again chose the unsecured network and the computer booted up as usual.
Can anyone suggest why this is happening? I shut down the way I usually do last night and this has never happened before. The only things different today are:
1. My remote fell down last night and stopped working so I turned on the TV manually this morning; and
2. My trackpad fell out of my hand and there's a diagonal crack through the centre so I'm using a !#&?#!& mouse (I'm waiting patiently for the 3rd bout of misfortune to befall me)
I can't, however, imagine either of these things affecting the booting up of my mini.
Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My PRAM reset did not go as stated.
I depressed Cmd Option P R, kept pressing those keys, turned on the computer. Then got a screen with 4 options:
1. Restore from a Time Machine backup
2. Restore from installation DVD?
3. Get help online
4. I don't remember
I shut down and tried again, and got the same screen with 4 options again. I tried the PRAM reset a third time and the computer booted as usual.
Any other suggestions?

N200 Rescue and Recovery - where does it store backups?

I've got an issue with the rescue and recovery on my laptop. I want to delete old backups and when I get my automated RnR pop up on a friday afternoon instead of doing a backup I click on the link that says "you can modify this schedule by launching RnR here". From that I get a list of all the old backups made on my laptop and the option to delete any one of them. I click on the delete button next to an old backup that's obviosuly taking up valuable HD space and a little window pops up telling me "Please wait while the backups are deleted" and then the little hour glass spins round and round for hours on end. I clicked this at 5pm this evening and it is now 11pm and it's still there. Don't think it's deleting anything and has just timed out. It's done this every time I try.
Is there a way to configure the RnR so that I can specify that I want the backup to go onto my external hardrive?
Where are these backups stored on my laptop so that I can go in and delete them manually as doing them vis RnR is definitely not working,

I would pull the hard drive and place it in an external
usb enclosure.
Copy the important files off of it if possible.
You may not get it to boot again with out re installing windows,
or hard drive may be damaged.
