Startup problem after driver installation!

windows 2000 server will not start properly with the tvanywhere master card drivers installed.  It used to work properly with a k7n2g-ilsr with the integrated graphics controller.  It also worked with the Radeon card with that motherboard.  Although that installation seemed to degrade-- initially, I could watch TV on a 2nd monitor and play a game on the primary monitor, but for an unknown reason, after some time, the system would blue screen and reboot.
I then switched to the current MSI motherboard k7n2 Delta and it no longer works.   When I start windows now, it takes a very long time to start and then I cannot log on.  I reinstalled windows 2000 server and experienced the same problem.  I tried the tv card in slot 2 initially, and the machine would loop from the "press ctrl-alt-del" screen to the login screen.  After entering the password, it would go back to the ctrl-alt-del screen.  are there any known incompatibilities with the ATI radeon chips? I have also tried earlier versions of the graphics drivers with no success.  After putting the card in slot 2, I got past the login screen but it then hang without being able to load the taskbar.
in order to boot, I have to start in safe mode and disable the drivers to start up.  I have been able to boot by disabling the audio capture device on the card , but i cannot use the msipvs software to take advantage of the card.
I have installed the card in another system (the one that is currently using th eoriginal msi motherboard (k7n2g-ilsr) but I need it to work with this system.
Please help!  Thank you!

I changed power supplies after the one I had died, and I put in a new power supply.  It worked for about 1 week and then it caused windows2000 to crash while starting up and reboot over and over.  :(  I tried a new 450w power supply and it does the same thing.  :(

  • Serious problems after Mavericks installation with External Drive Lacie P9220.

Experiencing serious problems after Mavericks installation with External Drive Lacie P9220 1TB. Mac Finder totally locked!
I had to format the External hard drive with a Windows PC (fat32), then format again with my IMac (mac Journal.) and hopefully restored data from time machine backup.
So far so good but system looks unstable. Some software were not able to write on the hard drive. Some strange things happens. With Mountain Lion never had an even minor issue.
I read many discussion regarding problems with WD, just wondering if anyone had the same problems with Lacie and if there is any tip to solve the
    problem.
    Many thanks.

Thanks very much for your reply.
Unfortunately I couldn't find a solution because the article refers to whom have configured the drive with included software and drivers that came with the drive.
This is not my case, I never used any third party soft ...only OS X disk utility ...

  • Startup Problems After Upgrade to 10.4.8

Six weeks ago I upgraded my RAM by adding a 1Gb chip, and after checking to see that the added memory was recognized, I installed OS X 10.4.6 from my purchased DVD. I was then prompted to update to 10.4.8. For the first three weeks I used my iMac G5 with no problems. Then, with no apparent changes having been made, I began having Startup problems with my iMac. Every Statup go like this after pushing the Power button:
    1) I get alternatively a black screen or the gray Apple screen frozen
    2) I use the Power button to Shut Down, then Start with the Power button and get the gray Apple screen with cascading text error messages
    3) I Shut Down and Start as in 2 while holding the Option-Command-P-R and get Desktop, but my applications repeatedly Quit Unexpectedly (Safari, Explorer, iTunes, etc.)
    4) I Restart from the Apple Menu and get the Desktop and my applications usually work without Quitting.
I tried re-installing from my OS X 10.4.6 DVD (Archive and Install), but I get errors when the Installer gets to Prepare the Disk. Can anyone tell me what else I can do, or do I need to contact Apple Support?? Thanks,
    ktanzoak

Only if you are able to boot into the desktop. If you are, follow the instructions on my FAQ:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
    for backing up your data.
If you aren't able to boot to the desktop, get Prosoft Data Rescue, and an external hard drive to attempt a recovery using the
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html#RECOVER
    directions on my FAQ.
Please let me know which procedure you are able to do and if you have any questions before you proceed.
In the future, always backup your data prior to installing any new software.

  • Satellite A100-237: I do not have the Catalyst Control Center after driver installation

    Hello,
    I use a Satellite A100-237 laptop. 1.83 GHz Core Duo, Ati Mobility Radeon X1600 512MB Hypermemory, 1.5GB DDR2 RAM.
My laptop now seems to use only the own 256 MB RAM (Graphic card's own RAM).
I purchased Need for Speed Carbon and installed it to my laptop.
When I tried to open the game, a blue screen appeared for less than 1 seconds, and than system restarted. Windows said that that was a critical error and a driver stopped Windows XP to operate, therefore system is restarted.
I searched in the net for this problem and, people said that, when they updated the driver the problem is solved.
I downloaded Display driver 8.241 (download file name: display_xp-8241.zip) from toshiba-europe.com.
Driver installed but while installing ATI Catalyst Control Center, at a point the installation process stoped continuing. I had to end the task after a while.
It said that driver is installed and system must be restarted.
Now the game works, thats not the problem, however I do not have the Catalyst Control Center. (Where I recently use it for connecting other screens to my laptop)
How can I solve this problem?
    Sorry for long letter,
    Thanks for helps.

You may run the driver installer again, use the custom installation option and select Catalyst Control Center only. Alternatively, you may remove the entire driver and try re-installing again. I suggest you also download the notebook driver package from ATI's website instead of Toshiba, as their drivers are usually more up-to-date (although it might be less safe to use them, I don't know).
And BTW, I have the same notebook and I have failed to see an option to set the machine to use the VRAM *only* instead of borrowing from RAM whenever necessary. Any ideas?

  • Startup problems after battery change

My G4 Desktop, now getting on for 6 years old, but working perfectly until recently, needed a battery change on the mainboard as the clock was having problems. However this has led to startup problems: initially, following the startup chord, the computer wouldn't start at all. After some online digging, I found references to the CUDA button/zapping the PRAM. I can now restart by resetting CUDA, but the computer usually won't restart or even start from power off, meaning I have to go back to the CUDA button every time. The computer also fails to recognize the installed RAM, except for 128MB, corresponding to one of three RAM strips.
Apart from the battery, the only other likely contributing factors are that the computer's been shipped internationally recently (however, it was professionally packed and shipped, and made its first restart after this move without problems). The other potential factor is the switch in voltage, from 240 to 110, but that was handled normally by switching over on the back of the case.
I would really appreciate any advice that can help me get this old clunker back in action, and with all RAM recognized. Nice as an upgrade would be, it's not a strong option for me at the moment, and I'm otherwise satisfied with the G4 anyway.

    Hi, Yukiguni!
You sure have an interesting problem...
You might review Texas Macman's tutorial at the following link:
    http://www.geocities.com/texas_macman/pram.html
I'd check that replacement battery with a voltmeter to insure that it's good. ("New" isn't necessarily synonymous with "fresh".)
You might try completely de-energizing your Mac. In the link above, there's a Tip just above the Battery section that refers to what to do when sometimes computers lose their mind. This procedure oftentimes works to reset a PMU/CUDA that seems to refuse to reset properly and retain the correct startup parameters.
If you can get the Mac to boot from disk again, you might run the Apple Hardware Disk. Definitely run Repair Disk from the install disk if you haven't already done so and can get it to boot from disk. (You might try booting to the Startup Manager by holding down the option key at startup and trying to select the disk from there. Your best bet for success is to do so just after resetting the CUDA/PMU.)

Maybe the workspace is corrupted..Try starting with a new workspace. In a short cut define the new workspace
    C:\Programme\SAP\IDE\IDE70\eclipse\SapIde.exe -showsplash 600 -data C:\temp
    Otherwise try installing again.

  • G5 startup problem after shutdown of frozen installation of new software...

    Hi all
I got a massive problem. My G5 was installing software from dvd and got stuck for some reason. Nothing worked and I had to shut the whole system down. When I now start the G5 it comes up with a white screen with just a small folder in the middle of the screen displaying a question mark and alternates that with the apple face. Besides this the fans go mental and after a minute or so I have to shut it down again. Mouse and Keyboard are responseless:(
What can I do to get it starting up again? - I need the data on the system drive as I did not have time to back it up yet:((((

It lost its pointer to the startup disk, so you are seeing the "?" which equals "Can't find system"
The directory and file system likely are corrupt and need to be repaired.
Before installing, always insure one or two backups, one that is bootable. And a copy of Disk Warrior is handy.
Boot from another drive using the OPTION key, hard drive, firewire, DVD and repair your system.
Backup first, is always faster and less hassle and good insurance policy.
Use SuperDuper; Apple Restore in Disk Utility.
If you can't use the OPTION key or boot from CD/DVD, then pull the drive and put it in a FireWire case for later repair and recovery.
And do make sure you have a clean safe fresh Apple OS boot drive that is ONLY used for emergency maintenance, repairs, etc.

  • Startup Problems after Firefox 2.0 Installation. Help, please.

A few nights ago I finally acquiesced to the repeated friendly messages asking me to upgrade to firefox 2.0. After installation I restarted firefox and things were going just fine (although I was a little underwhelmed). Still, my mac worked and that's all I particularly care about.
I shut down my MacBook Pro that night without a thought, but now when I try to boot up I get as far as the login screen, enter my information, and then instead of being taken to my desktop I get a blank default background and a pointer--and that's it. Sometimes if I leave the blank background long enough it will close and return me again to the login screen ad naseum.
Does anyone know what's going on here? And out of curiousity, has anyone else had similar problems with the new Firefox? Most importantly, can anyone tell me how to fix this?
(I've already tried starting up in safe mode, by the way. Same thing happens regardless.)

Hi and welcome to the discussions, You may need to repair your startup disk. Boot from your install disc and hold "C" down after you hear the tone and release when you see the Apple logo. Choose your language. Then when the install window opens, choose "Utilities>Disk Utility" from the menu bar. Select the startup volume"MacintoshHD" and click Repair Disk in the lower left after its finished, repair permissions then restart.
Hope that cures your Prob, Glynn

  • Startup Problems After Pro Tools Installation

    Hi There,
I have a Macbook Pro and just installed Pro Tools 7.3 and the 7.4.2 Mac update. As soon as the update finished, it prompted for a restart. Upon the restart, an opaque gray screen appeared with a message that stated 'You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button.' I did this, and the same thing has happened each time. I can never get past the initial apple screen during startup. This has never happened prior to my installation and update of Pro Tools 7.4.2.
Any ideas? I'm dying to start working with Pro Tools/Continue using my brand new MacBook Pro.
    Thanks!

  • Startup problem after use in target disk mode with a PC. Ideas?

I used my Mac 10.4 in traget disk mode. Data transfers between Mac and PC worked fine (via Macdrive 6). After disconnecting and trying to boot normally, Mac doesn't recognize internal volume. It flashes the question mark.
Tried to repair disk via install DVD - disk utility found no problems.
    Reapired permissons.
    Reset PRAM and NVRAM.
Tried Startup utility - found the internal volume and even after selecting it for startup, I still get the flashing question mark.
Apple hardware test found no problems.
Archive and reinstall is not allowed.
Data can still be accessed fine via target disk mode.
Any ideas how to reinitialize or reset the startup volume?
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hello,
You need to put the Tiger Install Disc in the 2011 iMac, boot the 2011 uMac into Target mode...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
Boot the G4 holding the Option or alt key, hopefully the Install Disc in the 2011 iMac will show as a boot choice.
We just want to use the 2011 iMac as a big expensive FW Optical drive, it cannot be installed osing the 2011 iMac itself.

  • Startup problems after Software Update

I now see this I'm not the only one having this problem, but my case may be a little different and, if nothing else, the latest one posted on this Sept. 8, 2006
Just got a 2.0 MBP, started it up, ignored the bastion of software updates that appeared, too excited and just wanted to noodle around and get acquainted.
Decided to install just 2 updates: (trying to recall) the Quicktime and 10.4.7 (not sure of that but it was the big 136M file), leaving the rest for later.
Restart, poke around some more, and wind up with a mouse freezing running Photo Booth. Restarted and then decided to install all of the rest of the updates, maybe 10 in all. (Everything from iPod, Airport, GB, Keynote, Pages, usual suspects, etc.) Got some error message that it couldn't complete install but restarted. And then it never was able to start up again.
There was nothing personal on this machine at all, so I'm just reinstalling from the install disks...slogging thru disk 2...hoping to have it back shortly.

As you are reinstalling anyway, you should get back to normal operation.
But I would have first started up from Installation Disc 1 (hold down the C key) and selected Disk Utilities from the menu bar. Select your boot drive and first run permission repair. Then run disk repair. If errors were corrected by the disk repair routine, I would run it once more.
Restart and see if the problem was fixed.
Note that if disk repair reported problems that it could not fix, a reinstall of the operating system would probably be the best bet.
Although there are varying opinions about this, I recommend running the permissions repair routine before and after each Software Update session.
Although some recommend doing Software Update one item at a time, I assume that if there are multiple items to be updated Apple's routines will probably install them in the proper order, so I select all of them. Haven't had any problems using that approach.

  • Startup problem after restore in recovery mode

    Hello,
My iPhone 5S stuck in apple logo and did not start to home screen. I found that the best solution is restore in recovery mode, but it did not work. my device started but made the apple logo loop. seems that it start and shot down. even the iTunes could not recognize it.
After two days of having this problem, disappointedly I put the wake up bottom and I saw that my iPhone started but in factory setting. Non of my data on it. I was happy until I made a restore to get back my data, apps, contacts, that the same problem of startup happened.
    Can anybody help?

The backup data seems to be damaged, you'll have to start all over again without the latest backup, sorry.
iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device
If you are using iTunes on the computer, there might be more than one backup listed in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices, check the article mentioned above for more info. If there is, use this one to restore from, to get at least some settings and data back. If there is no other backup listed, your backup data can't be used anymore, sorry.

  • Pavilion dv7 4050ed - Windows Update Problems After First Installation

I have only just today received my brand new HP Pavilion dv7 4050ed and commenced installation straight away.  There were no problems in the initial installation and I booted Windows for the first time successfully and let it do its auto installs for things like Java and Adobe Reader.  I then moved to update and patch the laptop with Windows Update but immediately noticed that something was wrong.  Upon opening Windows Update I was met with a white cross in a red shield to signify an error.  When I prompted it to "Check for Updates" I was met with an error message stating, "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running.  You may need to restart your computer."  I get the same error message when I try to run Windows Live Messenger.
After multiple restarts and checking in the control panel that the update service was allowed and working, the error message still appears whenever I try to update or patch my machine.  How can this kind of thing happen to a brand new machine that I've had for less than a day and has only had its basic settings chosen?  It simply will not update, or even recognize that the update service is available.  The internet is fully functional so it isn't any kind of connection problem.
Has anyone got any ideas as to what the problem could be?
I probably should just add that the laptop is a Dutch purchase with a bilingual setup.  I chose the English setup option but was advised to include this information in case it could in any way affect the update system.

HP support provided me with the following link:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02219204&cc=nl&lc=en&dlc=en&product=4213233
On this page there's a download called sp47845. After installing this, everything was working again.

    Ok guys,
think solved by change my /sda6/ (root) by /mnt to / and adding a slash / before home, boot, var.
Rebooted and try to edit the same file /etc/fstab and no warnings
    Now is like this:
    # /etc/fstab: static file system information
    # <file system> <dir>     <type>     <options>                <dump>    <pass>
    tmpfs                    /tmp        tmps        nodev,nosuid             0                0

    /dev/sda6                  /             ext4                  rw,relatime           0   1
    #UUID=blablabla
    /dev/sda9                  /home            ext4                 rw,relatime            0   2
