Startup resolution issues on Retina Display

I am not sure what I did; however, now when my machine boots the initial logon screen is at a very weird resolution. Also do not know why this photo is up-side-down here as it is was taken on an iPhone 6+. Someone isn't handling the XIFF information correctly.
How do I modify the boot screen resolution?
Using Late 2013 model MacBook Pro Retina 15", OS X 10.10.1.

Xcode storyboard resolution issue on retina display

I recently upgraded from an air to a pro, and I noticed in Xcode's storyboard that some of the objects in the library are really low res, both in the library and on the views displayed in the storyboard. When I add a label it looks fine while I'm editing the text, but as soon as I stop editing, it goes back to low res quality. It's displayed fine in the device/simulator, so it's not really an issue, but it just looks so ugly. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? Here are screen shots

Website Issues with Retina Displays

An apple rep stated, that “Yes, some websites are not very clear when viewed with a retina display.” He wouldn’t elaborate further. So, is this a problem? If it is, how major of one is it?
Also, is there a real difference between the retina display and a high-res non-glare display? I really like non-glare displays. This apple rep also admitted that although there is less glare in the new retina displays than the previous high-res screens, they are still not as ‘non-glare’ as the older MBP ‘non-glare’ screens. What’s your opinion about this? No one really likes any glare if they can get away with it. But is the retina display really a big deal?

I have not had any issues with web sites. Be aware that if a web site is coded to be 1024 pixels wide and you have your screen resolution set at 2880 wide then the page will be very small and the text unreadable. So you will have to decide what is the best resolution for you. I have mine set at 1920x1200 pixels and all web sites seem to work well.
There is a noticeable difference between the retina and the glossy screens. About 70% less glare according to Apple. Seems right from my experience.
You should go to an Apple store and check out the display for yourself.

2048x1280 Resolution Issues in 30" Display?

Anyone hoping for a fix to the broken 2048x1280 resolution issue with the older 30" Cinema display prepare to be disappointed... it's still broke in 10.6.5 .... sheesh Apple, is this so hard to fix?

Go to Preference and to Page Display:
Check the part about the resolution and see if it matches the resolution of your display.
The the resolution of which you view a PDF on screen doesn't necessarily have to do with how it looks when printed. I just updated 9.2 and open a PDF and I didn't see any problems on my machine.

Does the higher resolution of the retina display mean smaller text

Hi,
I have trouble seeing smaller text, and I am wondering if the higher resolution on the 13 inch macbook pro with retinal display will make Safari's menu and fonts or any other applications fonts smaller and therfore harder to read.
I figured a higher resolution means more can fit on a page and therefore everything is smaller. Not sure though?

In the Displays Preferences, you can choose the actual resolution you want displayed on the monitor. You're correct that a higher resolution will provide more screen real-estate at the expense of everything, including text, being smaller. You can also choose to make everything larger but less will fit on the screen. You just can't have it both ways unless you get a 27" LED display and plug it into the MacBook Pro. Just don't try to carry it around.

MacBook Pro Retina Display 13" or MacBook Air 13"??

I'm starting university in September and I'm considering purchasing a MacBook Pro 13" or a MacBook Air 13" to use during my study. I just can't decide which to go for.
Because I do a lot of photography work - (Adobe Photoshop) - I'm guessing the pro is a good option although the only thing I'm concerned about is the weight. I'll be taking my MacBook wherever I go - I.e. On field trips, lectures to take notes, friends' houses etc. so I want it to be portable and easy to carry wherever I go.
My friend has an Air and it looks and feels great. But I've been thinking is worth me getting the pro? Is the weight difference that much of an issue? Or wont I notice it? I've seen many comparison videos and both seem to be pretty close in terms of thinness. I just don't want to feel gutted if I go for the Air when the MacBook Pro might have a lot more to offer. I'll also be using office software for all my writing work for my course next year and the idea of having crisp sharp typography really appeals to me if I go for the pro. Having said this, I've heard that the standard resolution and the retina display can't really be differentiated from working distance but I've also heard that the colours are more vibrant on the pro. Another concern is the battery life. I'm really stuck.

The Pro is slightly better for Photography. The 15" Pro is even better as the graphics chip gives you more chip based power.
The weight is not that much. I used to carry around an 8 lbs Powerbook in 1998. The key to weight is having the proper bag with adjustable straps.
And when you do transport it, do not leave it on. Shut it down. Even with the sudden motion sensor, the innertia may suddenly wake it from sleep or make the hard drive deteriorate faster. If it wakes with the lid closed, that can cause it to overheat from the display on the computer's keyboard.

IPad Retina Display - Publishing Question

Hi Everyone,
A bread and butter question for many of you I'd imagine, but I could use some advice as this is my first iPad app.
Background info -
Developing in Flash CS6, with AIR 3.4 SDK.
Stage size is 1024x768, and using all vector graphics.
I've created all app icons as per required resolutions, including for retina display.
- I've tested on both IPad2 and IPad3 (new Retina Display model).
- I've selected "High" in the Publishing settings in Flash.
- Images look good on IPad 2, medium-large images looks crisp (even when resized), but I have noticed that for some of the vector images that I've resized down quite small on screen (i.e. smaller than an icon size) have some minor line 'jaggies'. As a note I have the quality setting in the AS3 code set to "best".
- Images look SUPER crisp and sharp on the IPad3, those same smaller images are perfectly sharp and look flawless.
Question -
When looking at the Adobe help page of how to deploy a HD Retina Display app, it pretty much just mentions the steps of selecting "High" as the publishing setting.
Seeing I'm using 3.4 SDK (qhich references support for Retina Display), and Flash CS6, and also the 'High' publish setting, can my app be 'offically' referred to as a HD Retina Display app?
The main reason I'm asking is because my Flash stage is only at 1024x768, so I'm wondering if it has to be set at 2048x etc
Even so, the quality is so sharp and crisp on the iPad3!

If there's an official Apple definition of an app being a "HD Retina Display App," then I don't know the answer. But, if your app plays on iPad3 Retinas, then in my opinion (not worth much), I'd say "yes" -- it's a HD Retina Display App (especially if you're getting the decent high-res imagery you stated).
Regarding the "jaggies" on the vector images, I have the same problem. I think it's an AIR issue. For my client, I had to convince them to just accept it, which they did (thankfully). To try eliminating the "jaggie" issue, I used PNG files in some cases. But, those resulted in "fuzzy" appearances, which isn't much better.
You might want to update your AIR to 3.7 SDK and publish with that, as it's the most-recent and fixes a few older issues.
Please advise when you go to submit your app to Apple, because Apple rejected my app for problems on the iPad3 Retina (see http://forums.adobe.com/message/5414458#5414458 ).

Screen information too small on Retina display

I am running Lightroom 4.1 in Windows 7 on a Macbook Pro with Parallels 8. The screen information and dialogs are so small I can't read them. I suspect it is a problem with the extreme resolution of the Retina display. Is there some way to increase the size of the text so it is readable.?

I don't know if it does, but as the software running on the Mac that could be aware of the Mac's retina display, Bootcamp should provide some sort of pixel-doubling compatability mode or something, right?
It still isn't clear why you are not using the Mac version. Do you have a serial number? Have you tried installing the Mac version and using the serial number to activate it?
If you're not sure of the serial number, anymore, you can try using the Belarc Advisor to analyze your Bootcamp partition and find various Adobe serial numbers:

And if what the school has provided doesn't use serial numbers, then talk to them about supplying a Mac version for you, then.

GPU restart question on a 2013 13 inch Macbook Pro w/Retina Display

Hi, I was just searching online and there was no freezing or anything, but then I see a little alert saying something about the graphics needing to be restarted and if I should send an error report. I searched the reports the diagnostic reports and saw this

I was just curious as to what is this all about. Is my GPU going bad?
The only thing graphic wise that I noticed that since upgrading to Yosemite, when I restart the Macbook or power it on, when my Wacom Cintiq is connected to it, there's some flickering on the screen after I log in. Its something I don't notice when I power up my Mac Mini with the Cintiq attached.

yyou may be right. I ran a diagnostic, there was no issues. I was looking online, and tthere seems to be issues with Retina Display MacBooks with discrete gpus in Yosemite, as it switches between graphics. Which would make sense with mine, since any issue I had happened since the switch.

Brand new MacBook Pro w/Retina Display, PSE11 looks like a mess, bad resolution, pixelated fonts and pictures, is there a fix for this? This is a major, major issue for me as I use PSE all...the...time! Thx.

I am not a Mac user, but your problem is the same with other HDPI high resolution displays.

Nobody can tell if future versions will solve the problem, but don't expect a fix for PSE12.

I completely disagree about the 'crisp display' requirement. Photo editing on computers has its own requirements which do take into account the practical resolution of the display, its size and viewing distance and the fact that you have to work alternatively on the whole image or the pixel level. Working comfortably without straining your eyesight means a lot of things including display size and viewing distance (good : 24 to 27" at 80 - 100 cm) with optimal resolution : 1920 x 1200; good colour fidelity and absence of reflections.
If you compare side by side HDPi vs more standard displays, you won't see the difference in a normal editing session, only if you look closely for a long time at a still image.
Standard displays are crisp enough, don't be fooled by the marketing trick of the higher figures. Even 1920 x 1200 resolution is more than enough for a 15" display. Spend the price difference on a good and comfortable. external display. Make use of the shortcuts to quickly zoom and pan in your images.

Macbook Pro 15" Retina Windows 7 HDMI Resolution issue

Hello,
I have a late 2013 Macbook Pro 15" with Retina display running bootcamp with Windows 7.
I have connected the Macbook to an external HP w2448hc display using HDMI interface.
When booting to OS X 10.9.4, the resolution of the external display is set to 1920x1200 and it looks fine. See picture below:
However, when booting to Windows 7 the resolution on the external display looks lower (although shows up as 1920x1200):
I have another PC which I have connected to the same display with HDMI and the resolution also shows up as 1920x1200. However, in this case the resolution indeed looks as the correct one:
Although not seen very well from the screen shots, both the PC and the Macbook Pro (with Windows 7) show the same resolution in the settings, but the desktop and icons under Macbook Pro (bootcamp) look bigger and with smaller resolution.
Does anyone know how to solve this?

I managed to fix this resolution issue by lowering the color depth to 16bit for the external display. Not exactly sure why was this necessary, maybe for some reason Windows cannot allocate enough video memory for both displays?

Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display, screen issue since most recent update.

I had the software update downloaded on my Macbook Pro with Retina display for awhile, and finally got around to installing it. Once I installed it my screen had a little twitch where my screen would look normal but the top of the screen the finder bar, with the wifi icon, battery icon, spotlight icon would also appear on the bottom of the screen yet everything above it appeared normal. I reinstalled os x lion and it was fixed but their are now little black horizontal lines all across my screen, the resolution is fine enough to use but I'm wondering why these lines appear. The lines sometimes go away, also sometimes when I open my laptop my screen has a ultraviolet greenish, purple tint to it that goes away after awhile of sitting. I've determined that my screen is an LG screen and I know they have issues. I was wondering if anyone had the same issues to this and possibly a fix? The laptop was purchased July/2012.

Macbook Pro Retina Screen Resolution Issues

I have just bought a retina display Macbook Pro (Early 2013) with OS X 10.8.3 Mountain Lion.
Before getting it, I did not realize what an effect it would have on the use of my existing programs, and had I known, I would have thought twice before switching from my non-Retina Macbook Pro. I have never had so many problems with a brand new computer. On my retina screen, programs such as Microsoft Office 2011, Adobe Creative Suite 5 and Acrobat Pro X run with an awful screen resolution and impossibile legibility. The pixelated graphics and image quality hurt my eyes, beyond the fact that I cannot see my lines, images and text properly in order to work with them.
In these programs, the "Open in Low Resolution" button is enabled permanatly and cannot be changed as it's option is ghosted out. I do not know how to make it look better or what to do. I cannot work using this low resolution and this issue has affected my productivity.

Issues in Word and Excel 2011 in Retina display

Well I have a MBPr and Offcie 2011. It is updated to the last version (The one that seems to support retina display). At the beginning when I updated it did not work so I did the “Touch” trick in terminal for every office application, and apparently it worked, at least I thought that but on a closer inspection:
I found, for instance in Excel, everything is in high resolution but the Styles Tab. It still looks grainy, like in low resolution.
In Word, it happen the same, everything is in high resolution but Styles Tab and the lower right corner buttons (the ones you use for zoom and the page layouts).
Somebody elese have the same issues, I mean it is a normal behavior, or I am the only one?? Should I reinstall office to solve that?
