Startup Resolution with Dell 30" LCD

When I'm booting up my startup screen is always at the wrong resolution but as soon as I get to the MAC OSX startup box it corrects itself. Is there anyway to get to boot in at the right resolution?

  • Cant Get Optimal Resolution with Lenovo L192 LCD Monitor after GeForce video driver upgrade

    Hello,
I just upgraded my GeForce video drivers for the integrated GeForce 6100 video chipset in my Lenovo 3000 series desktop.  My monitor is a Lenovo L192 LCD.  It has been working fine but I decided to upgrade the video drivers.  After installation and reboot, I can no longer get the optimal resolution of 1440 x 900 for this monitor.  The highest resolution offered is 1360 x 768.  I had this same problem the last time I upgraded the video drivers but somehow I manged or someone told me how to get the higher resolution.  I reverted back to the old driver that was working fine and now I can't get the higher resolution with that driver either.  I think I have the latest driver provided by Lenovo for the monitor.
I am running Windows XP SP3.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Could you fix it or does anyone else have a solution?

  • QuickSilver 867 G4 with default ADC and Dell 1704FPT LCD DVI

I finally have a digital LCD to use with my Quicksilver 867 Mhz G4, thanks to a package deal with Dell.
But I wonder if my Mac's build-in ADC support can drive the DVI input of the Dell 1704FPT LCD, with Apple's ADC to DVI adapter, or if I need to get a DVI video card for this purpose. I plan to run at a 1280 by 1024 resoultion.
For that matter, I have a DVI switchbox and Sony 19" DVI digital LCD in use with my PC's and Mac mini. Would the build-in ADC support that as well with the adapter?
    Thanks for our input.

Update: Here are the specifics on my card and monitor. I note no core image support.
I'd really appreciate feedback on whether I can use this card for DVI output to my LDC monitor.
    Thanks.

  • Connecting my Mac Mini DVI video output to Dell W3706MC LCD TV VGA Input

I tried connecting my mac mini to the Dell W3706MC LCD TV VGA input but it wanted me to change the resolution of the mac to 1360 x 768 at 60 Hz. I did that but it still would not display the video. I tried my PC laptop and that worked fine with different resolutions. So I know that there is nothing wrong with the TV. Did anyone experience this same problem?
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks,
    Karl

I'm confused about your comment "it wanted me to change the resolution of the mac to 1360 x 768 at 60 Hz." I presume the way this was communicated was through a dialog box, correct? But if you could see a dialog box, that means you had a working screen at one point, correct? Why don't you just run at that resolution?

  • Yosemite System Crashes on Boot with Dell U2713HM

Previously under Mavericks I had no issue with a Dell U2713HM monitor and my 'non-stock' NVidia card.  (The reason I'm using the video card I am is because the stock ATI card (ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT) is known do fry itself which I discovered after replacing it with an identical card and having the 2nd one fry itself after a year.  I did a lot of research and settle don the card I now have because others had reported success with it.  It worked fine for nearly a year until updating to Yosemite.)
After upgrading to Yosemite my system went into an infinite reboot loop on startup.  On a hunch, I swapped out my U2713HM for an old 17" monitor and was able to boot.  I can't even have the U2713HM plugged in/turned off using the second port on the card without the system crashing.  If I get the system booted using the 17", I can then plug in/turn on the U2713HM and set the resolution - at that point I can (sometimes) boot but it will then crash on shutdown triggering an automatic restart.
Is anyone having any success with a U2713HM, and especially with an NVidia card?  The only option I haven't tried is a completely fresh, clean install.  Once the system boots, I get the dialog that it was restarted because of an issue and can view part of the dump info that will be sent to Apple -> that clearly indicates the issue is with the kernel/NVidia driver somewhere.
System specs:  Mac Pro (Early 2008) with an NVidia GeForce GTX 650 1024MB card installed running Yosemite (OS X 10.10)

My mac mini (late 2012, Yosemite installed) doesn't start with Dell U2713HM if the USB cable of the monitor is connected.
No problems if I connect the usb-cable after successful startup. Also the usb-hub of the Dell is working fine then.

  • FCP with Dell Monitor

Beginner FCP user with new MBP 15". Older diabetic with bad eyes and need larger screen. Looking at a Dell 24" LCD SP2409W ($275.00). It has HDMI,DVI VGA wih 1920x1080 resolution and 16:9 ratio. It seems to be a "narrow" screen. Simply put, will FCP look/work OK on this type of monitor? Anything will be greatly appreciated. Joseph

    No problem Sir.
Just one thing, is your MBP the very latest model with the glass screen?
If so, you will need one of these to connect it:

  • Macbook pro stopped displaying full resolution on Dell U2713HM monitor

    Hey guys,
I'm using the late 2013" retina Macbook Pro with OSX Mavericks.
I've been using a Mini DP to DP cable to output full 2560 x 1440 on my 27" Dell U2713HM.
One day while I had that monitor plugged in, I also plugged in my HDTV via HDMI for an extra screen. When I did that, it set my Dell to 1080p and ever since then I cant seem to change the resolution back to its native res.
When I go to the display options for this monitor, under "Scaled Resolutions", the entire section is blank. It gives me nothing to choose from. I've restarted my computer a few times, plugged the cable into the other Thunderbolt port, nothing.
I've tried new cables and went to the Apple Store and they did a PRAM reset. It seemed to work fine when they hooked up a Thunderbolt display to it. But I just cant get my Dell to go full res again. I tried the first cable on another mac and a PC and both let me view it in full resolution. Just not my Mac.
Any advice? It makes no sense why it was working perfectly fine for a long time and then completely refuses to do so only on mine.

I have the same setup - late 2013 macbook pro with Dell u2713hm. I've tried connecting with both a mini dp cable to dp (as included with the dell monitor) and also a hdmi cable and I get a strange result - I get full resolution but it looks terrible - pixalated and faded.
I also have a macbook from around 2009 which I can connect using a dp-dvi adapter and then the dual dvi connector that came with the monitor. It gets a lower resolution but actually looks better.
Any ideas? Have you seen this issue with your setup (which seems the same as mine).
    Thanks,

  • Dell 24" LCD monitor shows barely perceptible lag

I have a Power Mac G5 and just bought a Dell 24" LCD monitor, the 2405FPW, for $825. After happily clearing off my desk of two old CRT's and connecting it up and using it for a couple days, I began to notice a lag between anything I did and when it would appear on the screen. The lag is barely noticeable, but I tend to mouse around very quickly and need precise control of the pointer, and after hours of use, the slight discrepancy seems to be causing me fatigue. It's also a problem when playing Quake (fast-action first-person shooter game). The lag doesn't exist with my old Sony 19" CRT.
Before jumping to any conclusions that I'm insane, please look at this short video clip that clearly demonstrates the same problem. It's quite amazing to see. The video is linked from this page:
    <http://weblogs.asp.net/ryanw/archive/2004/09/23/233681.aspx>
(You may have to save it to your desktop and then double-click it to see it.)
The guy hooked both an LCD and a CRT monitor to his machine and spanned a window across the boundary between the two. Then he videotaped what happens if you move the window up and down. You can see clearly that the LCD screen takes longer before it draws its half of the window. Ouch!! He compares using his LCD monitor to "swimming in molasses" (which later spawns an interesting discussion involving a hazmat worker and an overturned tanker of molasses), but I wouldn't go that far.
I ran the same experiment in the video and got the same results (and so did my dad, with his Powerbook Pismo, which is interesting because he never noticed the lag through normal, daily use of the computer). Then I took my Sony CRT to the Apple store and hooked it up next to a 23" Apple Cinema Display. I did the same experiment and there was no lag!! So unless someone has a solution for the Dell monitor, the $500 price difference might be the price I'll have to pay for Mac compatibility. I might wait as long as I can for the price to go down (the salesperson said the last price reduction was last November).
Very few people seem to experience this problem in general (or don't notice it), so I have no idea why it's affecting my system. It's basically a stock dual 2GHz G5, running Mac OS X 10.4.4, with 2.5GB RAM and stock graphics card which should more than handle this (ATI Radeon 9600 Pro, 64MB, AGP 8x). I'm using the digital monitor connection, as opposed to VGA. I'm running very few preference panes and kernel extensions. Dell tech support would have nothing to do with the issue because they don't support Macs, but after some finagling, I finally got the monitor returned with a full refund. My suspicion is that some sort of driver somewhere needs to be updated, but with no support from Dell (their web site doesn't even seem to have a support section for their own monitors), I'm not sure who to expect this from or when.
This problem is subtle and many find it unnoticeable, if they're even experiencing it. So I would like to know if anyone else has a Dell LCD and a regular CRT monitor both hooked up to their system and could try the experiment in the video to confirm "scientifically" that they don't experience this problem!

Power Mac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   Basically a stock system. Dual 2GHz, 2.5GB RAM, ATI Radeon 9600 Pro (64MB)

My post has started a more extensive discussion on this problem at an Ars Technica forum:
    <http://episteme.arstechnica.com/groupee/forums?a=tpc&s=50009562&f=67909965&m=41 90936913&r=796009877731#796009877731>
It appears that the problem may be inherent in all PVA-based LCD's, which include the Dell 2405FPW. It's not noticeable by everyone but so far everyone I've seen who's taken the time to run an objective test has uncovered the lag. If you can run the test, please do! (See earlier in this thread, or see the Ars Technica thread for a better test involving a stopwatch program run on two monitors).
The good news is Apple's 23" Cinema Display is based on a SIPS LCD panel (as is a similar HP display, and I think a Sony display), and these don't suffer from the lag.

  • I have a problem with Dell 2407WFP

i just bought dell 24" lcd conecting with my macpro now with 7300GT.
the problem is... display doesnt match with sound.
the lcd is late about 1 frame
when i watch DVD,,,i edit movie stuff...i just play quicktime movie...whenever..
    i can feel it.
so i edit sound track from quicktime movie 1 frame late in the final cut pro... it Does MATCH!
    is it normal?
    please help me!
oh! i called Dell korea, and asked about it...
    but they just said that their product doesnt support Mac officially..-_-;;;;

I have the 2407 and the 2405 on the ATI card on the Mac Pro, and there is no delay. Maybe it's the graphics card? I also edit and game, and the monitors work great. Both 24" monitors and it's a dual monitor setup, so I don't know what your issue may be.
If you think it's the monitor, you should tell Dell and exchange it for a new one. Otherwise, it's the graphics card or something since my monitor works flawlessyly.

  • Grey screen on startup resolution.

    Hi All
I have been getting the grey (although I call it blue) screen on startup over the past year. I have an intel imac with the latest version of snow leopard on it. I've tried everything suggested in the forums, including rebuilding my machine from scratch (not a trivial task for production music software / hardware).
One thing I can't understand is why my machine has this issue with a clean install, and no periphirals attached. My machine has been in the Apple shop and has been verified as ok.
I have contacted the Australian Consumers Comission and think that this comes under the expectation of durability, which can apply even if the manufacturers warranty has expired.
I've invested a lot of time and money into Apple hardware and software and would have expected a resolution to this problem by now. Having to manually power off my machine 3 to 4 times in a row to get it to boot propery is obviously going to impact on the lifetime of my harddrives.
I'd like as much feedback and personal experience that people have had with this issue before continuing any further.

I boot my mac with verbose settings on, I get the normal beep, then I get all the normal output (same output as when it boots ok), then a blue / grey screen. It hangs for around 15 mins. After that it continues to boot until it's logged in, but then there is no interaction with the mouse or keyboard. I can see the mouse pointer moving around, but can't click on anything. If I have the time I will log in from another machine and perform a normal shutdown, otherwise it's a hard reset.
I've tried resetting the nvram, repairing permissions, checking the hard drive, rebuilding the machine, restoring from time machine, etc. but I always end up back at square one looking for a permanent solution. All my drivers are the latest.
One interesting thing to note, when I had Windows 7 installed as the default startup OS with bootcamp I never experienced this problem. To me that kind of verifies that it's not a hardware problem.
    My machine specs are...

  • Thinkpad W510 - trying to get 2560x1600 resolution on Dell wfp2007 using a W510

    Hi All,
I am looking at purchasing a W510. I have a Dell wfp2007 30" monitor that I would like to drive off of the W510, at the full 2560x1600 resolution.
The wfp2007 only has a Dual-Link Dvi - and the W510 comes with a DisplayPort. It would seem I need a DisplayPort to Dual Dvi cable to make this work.
    My questions to you:
    (1) Anyone have any experience getting 2560x1600 resolution with a w510 and a wfp2007?
    (2) Would I need to get the dock (even though the laptop itself has a DisplayPort - because of the extra power supply?)
    (3) Any other reccommendations for driving the wfp2007 with the w510 at 2560x1600?
Thank you very much for your help!!
    Meera

He posted some stuff about W510 and resolution limitations.  As I recall, the W510 has a DVI-I and won't support your resolution.
In regards to DisplayPort to DVI-D port on your monitor, one approach would be to by a powered DP to DVI converter.  Passive converts max out at a lower resolution, so make sure you get an active/powered box if you go this route.

  • StarTech Adapter not working with Dell Inspiron 15, model 3521

Side Note: I wrote a reply to a thread that was from 2013. I do apologize because the link was sent to me by my bf and I did not realize how old it was. Since my reply has to be approved I can't delete it.
Current Issue: StarTech Adapter not working with Dell Inspiron 15 model 3521
I bought my Dell laptop last year and at first I did not realize that it had only one audio jack (combo, as the specifications manual says), I only noticed when I was trying to plug in my Ozone Rage ST headset.
I searched online threads and found out that I needed an adapter and most people mentioned Headset Buddy. I couldn't find any adapters for sale in my country (or employees didn't really know what I was talking about) and since Headset Buddy is a bit expensive, I decided to try StarTech Headset adapter for headsets with separate headphone/microphone plugs - 3.5mm 4 position to 2x 3 position 3.5mm M/F www.amazon.com/.../ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top.
It arrived today and let me tell you that I can't make it work. I can hear everything but I can't get the external mic to work or even be detected. I have always used my headset (mostly for gaming) and I prefer to use my external mic rather than the internal one. First I connected my headphone and mic jacks to the adapter and only after that did I connect it to the laptop combo jack. I also tried vice-versa. It didn't work, regardless of the order. I even tried with a different headset and it still didn't work. What else can I do?
I have also found a thread on Dell forums saying that Headset Buddy doesn't even work on Dell Inspiron 15, model 3521. So since it doesn't work and I'm assuming StarTech doesn't, either, what am I to do/buy?! I am getting extremely frustrated and I'm very disappointed with Dell because the brand should have included with the laptop a proper working adapter for these situations and not make its customers buy an extra accessory to make whatever working gear they already had function. It just doesn't make sense to me! Either make the changes work properly or simply don't touch anything. I spent some of my savings on this laptop which, overall, is great but now I am being forced to spend more on an item to allow me to use my headset. I am running out of options here and even Dell can't seem to tell its customers with 100% certainty what really works for this specific model.
If I can't make the adapter work, I just hope I can return it, otherwise I'll end up with no refund and with a piece of equipment I have no other use for!
    Any thoughts?

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
This is the first time I was forced to buy adapters such as these so I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if there's anything else I can do to make it work. When I plug the adapter to my Dell, the laptop presents me with several options such as: headphones, headphone, speakers, skull candy headphones, etc (maybe some may have different names but since I see them in Portuguese, I'm not quite sure how they appear for someone who has the computer in English), I have picked different options and it still doesn't work, the only noticeable changes are sound quality related, I guess.
