Startup SAP and DB after OS backup restored

Dear Friends,
As of now we are not taking os level backup for our SAP servers.
We are taking only database backup but we are planning to take the OS level backup.
Hence am expecting how to do that, I know this is not Basis activity.
So please suggest what are the options that are available to take os backup and once backup is restored how to start SAP on restored server.
Please suggest.
Thanks in advance.
Regards
Jiggi

Dear Mark,
Thanks for your reply.
We  did the following things. Oracle is not having issue but SAP is not working.
1) Taken OS backup of existing server with registry and restored on new server
2)  No IP and hostname change.
3) Copied usr from source to target.
4) Taken backup of existing server and restored successfully.
5) When we checked Os level services are not running and SAP is also not working.
So please suggest how resolve this issue.
Regards
Jiggi,

  • How to restore using increment backup after full backup restore in RMAN?

    Hi All,
We have a files of full backup of database after turning on the Archive log.
And after that, daily incremental backup is taken.
Now, i want to restore the the database into a new machine using both files of full and incremental backups. Can anybody give me script for restore of full backup and after that restore of incremental backup?
    Thanks,
    Praveen.

    Praveen,
    >>
In my case, i have 2 sets of backups. One is full backup and other is incremental backup. In order to keep the restored database upto date, i need to restore the full backup and then restore incremental backup. Now, i got any idea how to restore using full backup. My doubt is how to update the restored database with incremental backup also?
    >>
Restore always looks for level 0 backup, not the incremental backups.
Incremental backups comes in picture during recovery.
During Recovery, Oracle looks for incremental backups, if exists, it will do the recovery with the incremental backups, if no incremental backups available, then, it will look for archived logs.
Therefore, incremental backups never used during restore, they are used only during the recovery.

  • Regenerating thumbnails and previews after Time Machine restore

    Hi there,
My Aperture library was recently corrupted and fixed only by completely restoring everything on my iMac using Time Machine.  This seems to have worked insofar as my library is alive again.  However, I'm unable to even USE Aperture due to it recreating all my thumbnails and previews.  I currently have about 57,000 remaining and it's taking about 5 seconds to finish each one, all the while bogging Aperture down to the point of being unusable.
Is this to be expected?  I understand that Time Machine doesn't save previews and thumbnails because Aperture can simply recreate them but at this pace, I'm looking at about a week of over 100% CPU usage.  It just seems strange that its so slow.
Just to give some specs on my machine:
    Intel Core i3
    3.2 gHz
    Dual Core
    12 GB RAM
Any advice would be appreciated.  I'm kinda stuck here.
    Thanks,
    Rick

    Hey Mark,
I ultimately just scrapped Time Machine and started using SuperDuper cloner.  I have been really pleased with it--much more user-friendly than TM in my opinion.
As far as working with Aperture, the rebuild process does take awhile but seems to be just the way it goes.  The reason mine was taking so exceptionally long though was due to HDD failure, not anything inherently wrong with TM or Aperture.
    Good luck!

  • After iCloud backup restore, how can I prevent Podcasts from constantly trying (and failing) to download podcast episodes no longer in iTunes store?

I recently turned my iPhone in to a Genius bar and had it repaired under the iPhone 5 Sleep/Wake Button Replacement Program. Congruent to that repair, I had to do a factory reset (contetn and settings). Once I got it back, I restored from iCloud backup. When I re-opened the podcats app, it began to redownload all old episodes I had on the iPhone before.
Of these many podcasts, 5 episodes were from 2 defunct podcasts no longer on the iTunes store. It gets download errors on these episodes. I can get it to stop retrying (and failing). I have tried canceling the downloads. I have tried deleting the episodes (and the podcasts). I have tried deleting them then canceling the downloads. I have tried marking them as played and canceling the downloads. I cannot get them to be purged from the catalog and not try to redownload.
Outside of someone with access to the iCloud backend who can remove the associations, I don't know if anyone here can help me. But I am open to suggestions.
    Thanks.
(also perhaps of relevance, the period between the wipe and restore included the release of the 2.0 app )

    Hello DonaldGuy,
It sounds like you have some podcast subscriptions that are constantly trying to download but they are not in the iTunes Store anymore prompting an error message. You can use the edit button in the susbcriptions list to delete the subscribed podcasts in question, to prevent the error messages from happening:
    Podcasts at a glance

Then I would backup to iCloud to update the most current iCloud backup to reflect this:
    Back up to iCloud
If you're using iCloud, it can automatically back up your data if you've chosen this option. You can verify your iCloud backup and make sure that it's up to date by following these steps:
Tap Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup.
Turn on iCloud Backup if it's off.
    Tap Back Up Now.

  • Problem with itunes and iphoto after time machine restoration

After an apocalyptic type meltdown in my hardrive the other night, I now have a new one. I have restored as much as I had backed up using time machine when I turned my computer back on for the first time. However in iphoto it lists all the different albums I have, but all the photos come up as grey squares. They are definitely on the computer as you can see them in the iphoto originals folder in the finder window.
A similar problem with itunes. My itunes library is totally blank, with no songs whatsoever. However the songs are there in itunes music folder.
How can I restore everything back to normal?
    Matt

    Look at Q15 here. http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
There are separate sections for iphoto and itunes.
It has to be so complicated because Apple made TM to do too much and be too many things to too many people.. a horse designed by a committee. It has become flakey in later editions.
If you still have the iMac you can move the files directly from the source.. you don't need to use TM backups at all.

  • T43 - Lost USB and wireless after full system restore

    Hi,
I've been struggling to get my work system back online for two days now.  It's a T43 which had become unbearably slow so after 3 years I decided to blow it away and use the system restore to set it back to factory.  However as seems to be the case all around, factory in this case means...nothing works and you have to manually install all of the drivers.
I upgraded my bios to 1.29 and embedded controller to 1.06
I installed drivers for every device and after a full day of futzing finally rid my device manager of unknown devices (mostly)  Here is a shot of it...
    Device Manager
However the most troublesome things have been wireless and USB.  Given that I had no idea which wireless device was in my system I tried updating the driver through device manager and pointed it at each of the three available wireless adapters on the Lenovo T43 drivers page.  The first two I tried were rejected, but the third one took and the device finally started.  However, when I point it at my wireless network it just keeps switching back and forth between "Not Connected" state and "Aquiring address state".  I finally disabled it.  This device worked fine as did my wireless hub prior to the system restore.
Worst of all however is my USB.  After first doing the restore, all of the USB host controllers were unknown.  I could find no specific driver for them on the Lenovo site so I just right clicked on each of them and selected "update driver" and let it find whatever it could for them.  Low and behold they all popped right up one at a time and were identified along with the root hub.  At that point two new unidentified "other devices" were enumerated, one being my printer and the other my USB Western Dig backup drive.  The hard drive's power turned on indicating a signal from USB, however it never popped into the list of available drives in My Computer.   I was able to install the Samsung printer drivers from CD which took the printer out of the list of  "other devices", installed USB printing support, and set up the printer in the "my printers" directory.  However I can't print to it.  Print jobs just sit in the queue and the printer acts like nothing is happening.
It's terribly frustrating because all of my backed up work and environment settings is stored on my USB drive.  If I can't get USB working again, I'm in serious trouble.  Thus far, I've tried disconnecting the devices and reconnecting (it makes a system ding but nothing else happens).  I've tried uninstalling all USB devices from the manager and then doing a scan to reinstall them again.  Both times I've tried this, the devices once again come up as "other devices" and I have to repeat the earlier steps to get them property identified.
I can't find any excuse at this point these devices not to be working.  Can anyone please offer any further suggestions?  If I was unclear about anything I'll be happy to clarify the problem.  I'm despertate to get this thing working again fast.
    Thank You !!
    Solved!

OK, let's try the older one:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-62875
You may want to delete the entire Win subfolder before installing it, though.
Now, honestly, I don't quite understand why recovery disks would skip this driver. I've restored hundreds of T43/p machines and have never encountered such an issue.
    Good luck.

  • My apps are stuck on "Waiting..." when they have been downloaded after iCloud backup restore

My apps were downloaded from my iCloud backup after restoring and updating to iOS 7 and it didn't work quite good. Many apps got stuck "Waiting...", but they're not downloading at all. I can access them through the app store purchased apps section or through multitasking. They work perfectly but the icon doesn't. I tried to delete them, re-download them, I tapped the app icon and nothing worked. What can I do?

By the way, I've tried to sync it again with iTunes and it doesn't sync the "Waiting..." apps. Every time I plug my iPhone and try to check its apps, iTunes stops working for some unknown reason. I forgot to mention that it's an iPhone 4S. Can anyone please help me? This is getting pretty annoying, considering WhatsApp is among these damaged apps and I use it quite a lot.

  • Can't get into Notes after iPhone backup restore

I restored from my iTunes Backup on my PC, however, I still cannot get into 'Notes'.
When I press the 'Notes'  App it starts for a second then closes on its own.
The restore didnt fix my problem.
Do i have to 'reset' it, or something.

If you are trying to restore and you device shows an image of a USB cable and connect to iTunes then carefully follow the steps in this article.  You may need to do is several times http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808

  • How so I get my replacement iPhone 4s to be able to call and texts after I have restored it?

Alright, so I was having problems with my iphone and verizon sent me a replacement. I followed all the instructions and restored the replacement iPhone, but I can't get it to call or text anyone. As you can see in the image I have included, it doesn't say 3G like it should. Can someone tell me what I should do?

To expand on what Meg said, it would not say 3G in the status bar since you are connected to Wi-Fi. While you restored the backup, like Meg said, you still need to activate the device.

  • Lost all presets and watermarks after catalog backup

I started having multiple issues with Lightroom 4 last night after I cleaned up my folders in the Finder. I already knew I would have to locate the missing/offline folders in Lightroom and when I linked them back up, a few images went way over-exposed on their own (They had already been completely edited and exported luckily.) I wasn't able to fix them because all of the history on those images went away when it happened and even when I removed it from the Library, they all re-imported with the over-exposure even though that's wasn't what the originals looked like.
My second issue happened after I backed up my catalog last night. The save presets box was checked but when I opened today, all of my user and purchased presets were gone and my watermarks were gone. It is like Lightroom went back to defaults except my images are all there with their history (except for the ones that I went over in the 1st paragraph.) I can re-add all of my purchased presets and watermarks but I don't know how to get my user presets back. And what did I do to cause all of this so I don't do it again?

The Songs - were they Bought from itunes? If not transfer purchases doesn't do anything. The songs would have to be on the library you sync'd with. The back up oesn't include Media (except photos taken with the ipad/iphone) and apps.

  • Mac cycling through blue startup screen and desktop after installing app...

Hi again folks! I'm hoping I can pick your brains on this one, as it's got me scratching my head here...
My fiance just accidentally installed a 64bit version of Handbrake on her white macbook (running Leopard 10.5.8, I believe). The battery on her macbook is completely drained (to the point where it won't hold a charge at all), so she has to keep the laptop plugged in at all times. Supposedly (I wasn't actually there for this event), the laptop got unplugged during installation of this 64 bit app.
When she plugged the laptop back in, it boots into the desktop for about 1 second and the goes back to the blue screen for about 6 seconds, and then back to the desktop... rinse and repeat.
Now I've tried getting her to do a safeboot, which appears to do something similar (she gets the Safeboot login screen, except when she tries to login in, it just kicks her back to the login screen.)
What to do? I'm in another city right now (go figure) and can't actually fix it for her other than providing directions to her. I will have access to the laptop by sometime tomorrow, so I can take a shot at fixing it from there...
Does anybody have any suggestions of things to try in the meantime?
Seems to me, if it's just a matter of having a 64bit app installed on a 32 bit kernel, this should be relatively easy to fix... yes? Thanks for reading.

I would do the disk repair to start. If the drive is OK then you may be able to do the following:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Retaining contacts and messages after a full restore

    Hi All,
Wonder if someone would be kind enough to let me know whether this is possible.
I want to do a full restore of my iPhone 4 - following the widely occurring and publicised battery issues. So as I understand it this involves restoring my iPhone and setting it up as a new iPhone rather than restoring from back-up (I have tried this but to no avail).
Now I know I can put my music, photos, books apps etc etc back on, using iTunes but can I put my contacts, text messages and notes back on? Or is there a way that I can guarantee I won't lose them all?
To be honest text messages here are secondary anyway; preserving contacts and my notes is my top priority. I do not have a mobile me membership by the way.
    Thanks very much in advance

    waylortoo wrote:
Where would I find the contacts on the computer?
I looked in the address book, but it was wiped out there as well.
I apologize for not being tech-savvy.
That's up to the user. When setting up the iPhone as described in the manual, you should choose an application on your computer to sync contacts to. You do this by connecting the phone to your computer, clicking on its name in iTunes, then going to the Info tab and checking "Sync contacts with" and choosing an app. Usually Address Book for Mac, Windows Vista, 7 or 8, or Outlook for Windows XP.
Alternatively, you can choose to sync to iCloud from the phone's settings. Then your contacts will be in your iCloud address book, which you can access by logging in to icloud.com with your Apple ID.
Alternatively, you can sync with Google Mail, which will allow you to sync your contacts with Google's address book.
Alternatively, you can do the same with Hotmail or Yahoo.
Alternatively, if you get email from an MS Exchange server, contacts will automatically sync with it.
If you didn't do any of these you risk losing contacts if something glitches.

  • ICalendar entries missing on device and iCloud after scheduled backup

Arghh...when I checked my schedule on my iPhone 4S Calendar today, everything was gone...EVERYTHING! I then checked calendar on iCloud from my laptop and the same thing. This seems to have happened 1) since an automatic, scheduled backup occured during the night and 2) since I installed the latest iOS.7 update (7.0.3) a day or two ago (the one that is supposed to fix glitches). So now I'm stuck and I don't know my work schedule (and seriously, I have 5 part-time jobs!).
