Startup Screen at very low resolution

When ever I turn on my macbook pro (late 2011) the start up screen with the white background and the apple logo is at a very low resolution and has black bars on eithier side of the screen. Then when it switches from that to the login screen the transition between the two screens is very pixelated. Then when it gets to the login screen everything is perfectly fine. How do I fix this? Thanks.

Hello Reagan,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. The easiest way to solve the problem, is to reset the NVRAM, the following article will give information on what it is and how to go through that process.
About NVRAM and PRAM
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

  • Very low resolution previews using loupe in import dialog

    Hi,
I had connected Canon 6D via usb to import photos to Lr. However in import dialog using loupe view I get very low resolution previews even if I zoom all way up. It doesn't make any changes in preview resolution, it's like 200x300 pixels at most. I shoot both raw and jpeg and it is the same. Tried full card format. Doesn't help. I can zoom normaly in camera screen. Is it related to the fact that I connected camera directly via usb instead of using card reader? I use latest Lr (5.6) and latest camera firmware (1.1.4).

A raw file usually has two previews embedded in it, a tiny thumbnail preview and a larger zoomable preview.  It sounds like LR is only able to retrieve the tiny thumbnail preview even though you are able to zoom in on previews in the camera.   Unless the camera, itself, is actually decoding the raw file to produce the zoomable preview and none is in the raw file for LR to see.
You can use the following website to investigate what previews are available in a raw file:  http://regex.info/exif.cgi  You want to click the Browse button next to Local Image File and navigate to a raw file and click Ok, then click the View Image From File button, then wait for the raw file to be uploaded, after which information about the raw file will be shown including the sizes of the previews and raw image.
As to your question about whether using a card reader might help, try it and see.  There could be a system driver getting in the way when the camera, itself, is plugged in.

  • Video files show very low resolution poster image

Using Indesign CC and the latest tools and content viewer I am creating Autoplay video animations for the cover of our weekly magazine.
With each issue I have published the same problem occurs where the poster image for the video file is very low resolution and makes our content look very amateur (for a brief moment) before playing the video file at full resolution.
I have tried creating animations using flash, photoshop and Edge Animate, exporting MP4, MOV and OAM files. The problem is present with all movie files and with the Edge animation files a white flash appears before the file plays.
Is there a solution for either of these issues? We are looking to continue to use animations for our covers and need them to look 100% crisp and clean.

Sorry to jump in but I'm having the same issue too!
I have an H.264 mp4 which I created in After Effects and inserted using the Media panel within DPS.
As you see below, it plays on page load and I have chosen the finished front cover to be the poster image when it ends from within the Folio Overlays panel. I have set the video to stop on the last page.
When the video stops you can see all the artifacting around the text which I would expect to be as crisp as the original PSD file I uploaded as the poster image.
Is there anything I'm doing wrong or is there anything that can improve the quality of the final still?

  • Moving object between tabs results in very low resolution?

    Hello,
    I'm using Illustrator CS5
When I move an object to a new tab(drag and drop), the end reult is very low resolution/distorted image?
    Regards

    You are welcome, 1-2-3.
That alignment is the default for kinds of documents normally used for web and devices where it may be an advantage to work in whole pixels only. It is possible to change the setting for such documents.
What happens is that (part of) the artwork is moved to be contained within whole pixels, by the least possible amount. This also happens during creation so that the Anchor Points/whatever that you place are adapted, unless you place them at whole pixel positions, in other words small, maybe unnoticeable, corrections of what you do.
When you drag and drop, you basically just throw it into a new, normally off grid, position, and the parts of the artwork may be moved differently.
You may keep the undistorted shape even with Align to Pixel Grid ticked if you copy from the source document and then use Paste in Front/Place/Back in the receiving document.  You can also move it by whole pixels in either/both directions.
In any case, you may ask yourself whether you want (the individual parts of) the artwork to be contained within whole pixels, or more freely created. In the latter case, you should have Align to Pixel Grid unticked before you even start.

  • Why are my photos now appearing in very low resolution?

What happened to my sharp and clear photos? Why are my photos now very low resolution with a progress image appearing as a circle on the photo and filling in 1/4 of the circle.  Why are the photos very low resolution copies that look like crap? Where are the good sharp photos I took?

Latest iOS on iPad Air in photos. It appears server was slow. Progress bar circle now filling in complete circle and resolution is good.  Why do I have to download my photos from iCloud i have plenty of memory space on my ipad ?  Same with movies and music I purchased.  I bought extra physical
memory when I purchased my iPad so I could view my stuff regardless of whether I had a wifi connection...apparently not.

  • HT1551 Apple TV and iPad 2 very low resolution pictures - how to resolve please?

    Hi
We've just bought Apple TV and it works fine with Netflix, with good resolution etc.
However resolution is really poor and blurred when using iPad 2.
What's more when iPad 2 is near the TV Netflix also goes low resolution and fuzzy. I've been having to turn the iPad off to get the Netflix resolution back again.
Is there a solution to this please?
One other quick question - I downloaded the Remote app and it seems to work, except I have a completely blank screen on the iPad (except for controls along top and bottom edges. Is this how it's supposed to be?
    Thanks for advice.

I have had ATV for 6 months now and run it in AirPlay and through iTunes.  I recently updated my iMac software and had the same problem.  I restarted my iMac and the problem disappeared so maybe update your ATV and host system. Shut them both down/restart or reset and have another go.  If it has been working fine previously then my theory is that generally the router and hardware are good enough to carry the system and it must be something you/we have done wrong.  I am not a techno wizard so i hope this helps.

  • Startup Screen stuck in poor resolution

    Hi,
I recently gave a presentation on a projector with a lower resolution and now when I use my laptop (nothing connected), the bootup sequence (apple and rotating tick) is displayed in really low res. Is there a way to reset this so that it is back to it's original 1440x900 glory? Thanks!

WOW worked like a charm! not to mention hearing the startup chime in full glory (so much clearer than my previous laptops)

  • Startup screen not very Mac-like

    All --
Received my new MacPro for work (whew, what a machine) -- while it seems to work great, the startup sequence is a bit disconcerting -- instead of the grey screen/Apple logo/twirly clock thingy, I get a black screen with white text looking very DOS-like (okay, maybe more UNIX like). It starts up okay, but the text-based startup gives me the willies...
Is this normal? Any ideas/corroborations would be helpful.

  • Red channel seems very low resolution

Iwth a HVX200 and P2 workflow, I have noticed in the past that in Final Cut the images look good, but if you export them, the red channel can have artifacts, it looks like a 1/8th of the resolution. This could do with the channel smoothing.. I dunno.
However, I had a work around (a bit of a chicken dance: opening the original files in quicktime, unchecking then rechecking the 'hi-quality' mode, then saving them as uncompressed.. THEN outputting them as frames.)
However, with all the newest updates to the P2 importer, I am now noticing that the problem has creeped into Final Cut itself, and there is no way to work around it.
I have older footage that looks great, if I now go and re-shoot, it looks bad, really bad.
    What is going on ?
Has anyone else had this problem.
I work in a large facility, and we do a lot of greenscreen and this is a real problem.
    thanks in advance,
    cris blyth

    like this?
    (200% zoom)
The little red blocks around the arms.It has something to do with over saturation of the red channel causing problems with color sampling and compression. Fortunately, it goes away once it hits a TV monitor. I'm a little bit confused as well, but I do know what your talking about.

keyboard and mouse are now auto-detected. Do you have xf86-input-evdev installed? If so, you do not need to explicitly set the drivers for keyboard and mouse in xorg.conf. You can try it out if you like.

  • Satellite P500 - Splinter Cell is very slow - low resolution

    Hey guys,
    I have a Toshiba Satellite P500.
    CPU Intel Core2 Quad processor Q9000 (2.0GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 6MB L2 Cache)
Operating System Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit (includes recovery partition for Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit)
    Screen Size 18.4" Widescreen HD+ TruBrite Display (1680 x 945), supports 720p
    Memory 4GB DDR2 (2GB + 2GB) (800MHz) expandable to 8GB
    Storage 1000GB (500GB + 500GB) (5400rpm) SATA
Graphics ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 (2286MB Total: 1GB discrete memory + 1262MB shared memory with ATI HyperMemory technology)
Optical Disc Drive DVD SuperMulti Double/Dual Layer
Now im trying to play games like, Splinter Cell Convictions and things of that sort, apparently, according to the Games website, i meet all the recommended specs. Yet when i play the game its on a very low resolution and all settings set to LOW!
Is anyone else having these problems with there Notebooks?

    Hi Sammole,
Sine few days I have Satellite P500 too. I have to say its a very great notebook, I love it. The screen is really good and big and in my opinion the best option for games, videos and all other multimedia stuff. Furthermore its equipped with fast CPU and graphic card, ideal for playing games.
All my games running fine so I dont know what happened to you. Make sure that the eco mode isnt active, this will slow down the performance.
Make also sure that newest display driver from Toshiba is installed and latest DirectX version from Microsoft.
Have also a look Splinter Cell homepage. Maybe there is an update (patch) available that can help you. :)

  • Illustrator CC 2014 documents won't go full screen (and the UI is extremely low resolution)

Illustrator CC 2014 does not seem to be running correctly.  My documents will not go full screen.  As you can see, there is a huge white gap surrounding the entire document.  I cannot grab the corners or sides to stretch it to full width.  On top of this, the whole interface is blown up and looks very low resolution.
Compare this to a screen shot of the previous version on the same computer:
The document will expand to the full width available and the the UI looks much better.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  I am using Windows 8.1

Since you still haven't got your data from the drive(s). I would advise performing a Windows installation without formatting the drive... I don't like this solution but at this stage you have probably tried everything else.
Use a Windows 7 Reinstallation DVD when installing ensure you select...
Select Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)
If you do not select any of the drive options and simply highlight the largest partition and select next:
Windows will dump all the old installation files in the Windows.old folder

  • 2011 i5 Mac mini no startup screen, but computer starts fine...

I just got a new Mac mini MC815 i5 2.3 Ghz a few monrhs ago, and I added 8 GB of RAM and a 750GB 7200 HD then did a fresh install of Lion 10.7.4 a few weeks ago. When I use the Mac mini on any normal 24" Acer PC LCD via HDMI to DVI adaptor or Thunderbolt/Display port to VGA adaptor the Mac mini boots normal. I see the Apple logo and and spinning wheel for about 35-40 seconds and then see the desktop like normal.
As long as I use the mini on a PC LCD panel, there is no problem. When I try to connect the mini to a 32" or 42" television via direct HDMI cable... the colors are all screwed up. I see the apple boot logo, but it is green instead of grey. I tried 2 different TVs and 2 different HDMI cables. Both TVs are 1080p capable and work fine with Windows 7 PCs over HDMI or VGA at 1920x1080@60 or lower. The TVs have 2 HDMI inputs and 2 VGA inputs, so I have to use the VGA adapter. (can't use DVI)
I used the Thunderbolt/Display port to VGA adaptor and the colors are fine. All resolutions work, but I nomrally use 1280x720@60 so I can see the icons better from across the living room. Anyhow everything works perfectly with VGA, except there is no startup screen or logo and it takes a long time to boot after the chime. The TVs are blank and say "No Signal". I timed it with my watch on several occasions and it takes between 90 seconds to 2.5 minutes to boot to the desktop, but the TV says no signal while it is waiting. After the desktop finally comes up, all is well.
I tried 1920x1080, 1280x720, 1366x768... still the same problem. Slow boot, no bootup screen or logo but after boot is finished, everything shows on the TV and fits in the frame (no underscan problems) and the color is normal. The computer is fast and responsive. If connect the mini to a normal 24 inch Acer LCD to VGA I see the logo and it boots in 35-40 seconds.
Any ideas here? Do you think the mini is displaying the startup screen at an unsupported resolution and that is why the TV is blank? After the boot sequence, it finds the proper refresh rate or size then finally shows up? Or do I have 2 bad TVs? Or 2 bad Thunderbolt/Display port to VGA adaptors?
When I hook my 2011 2.3 GHz Macbook Pro (same 8GB RAM and 750GB HD upgrade on it too) to the Thunderbold/Display port to VGA, I don't have this problem at all. When I turn on the Macbook Pro, the Macbook screen shows the grey logo and the TV shows a grey screen until it is fully booted. However, the Macbook Pro also cannot use the Thunderbolt/display port to HDMI adapters either, the colors are usually green.
Anyone else have this problem with their 2011 Mac minis? I want to solve this problem before I buy a second mini for the bedroom TV. When I use my Windows 7 PCs via HDMI or VGA, I have never experienced these problems.

First -254 which happens right away. From googling a bit I've discovered this may have to do with having chosen the drive as opposed to the volume as source/target.
So selecting these (but being confused as to how the recovery partition could be included in the restore if I choose only the boot volume and not the boot drive) the restore began. However it stopped after a few minutes complaining about an "input/output error". No further information given.
Sorry, my instructions may have been too vague. Yes, when you boot into the Recovery HD on your internal HD and use the Disk Utility Restore you need to specify the Source and Destination as a volume (e.g. Macintosh HD). Don't select the drive. And make sure the SSD is formated correctly.
With Disk Utility's Restore it does a block level copy so it's like creating an "image" in the PC world (e.g. Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image). This means you get ALL visible and hidden partitions copied over and bootable. With CCC you get a bootable clone of your OS/Apps/Data, but you can't boot to a Recovery HD on that clone. There is none. So, when you clone back to an internal drive, CCC has the Disk Center feature to create a Recovery HD on your internal drive. Disk Utility's Restore, however, clones both OS/Apps/Data and the Recovery HD to your internal drive without having to execute a 2nd step.
Which Intel 520 Series SSD did you install? I have an Intel 520 Series 120GB SSD installed in my Mac Mini in the bottom slot (closest to the bottom opening) and my stock 500GB HDD in the upper slot (in the drive bracket).

  • Import Previews Low Resolution?

As an Event Photographer I need to be able to quickly preview images from my Cards, Import only the "GOOD" images and transmit these for immediate distribution.
Problem is the PREVIEW of the images PRIOR to import are very low resolution and don't allow me to make an informed decision as to the quality of the image. Can this be adjusted?
Also, any tips on speeding up importation would be appreciated.
I've disabled FACES and PLACES and use a high speed FW800 card reader.

I can't see how you could make a select in the camera but you can't make it with the camera-generated preview? Especially when the in-camera JPEG is what's displayed on the back of the LCD when you review images (All RAW files contain JPEG previews for this purpose, and the histogram is typically displayed using the info from this embedded JPEG preview).
The fastest thing you can do for selections is to click Aperture's checkbox to use the embedded JPEG if possible. Then turn on quick preview mode and get to work editing. Note, Aperture 3 lets you edit while you're importing. It doesn't matter if the images are still on the card or have been copied to their final location. If the JPEG on the camera is good enough for quick reviewing, it should be good enough on screen... even if it is at a small resolution.
