Startup stuck in restore prior session, changing options, reboot no help.

i can change the options, like load blank page. restart system, load firefox, and get prior sessions. I look at options and they say load blank page. also fails same way for homepage.

Note that your System Details List shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize some prefs each time you start Firefox.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created it, so normally it wouldn't be there.
You can check its content with a plain text editor if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time you start Firefox and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
Rename (or delete) the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
Note that deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost.

'''IT'S A EASY AS IT SHOULD BE.'''
This is essentially paulbruster's answer, but I've added the steps some might assume, but which aren't so obvious to those of us who are new at this, like me.
This solution might ''appear'' to be long and complicated, but after you follow the directions once, you'll find it's quick, clean, and simple. Almost like they designed it this way.
    # If you haven't already, open a bunch of tabs on a few different subjects.
    # Click the List All Tabs button on the right side of the tab strip.
    # Select Tab Groups.
    # Create a few groups as described [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/what-are-tab-groups#w_how-do-i-create-a-tab-group here] , i.e. just drag them out of the main thumbnail group into the new groups they create.
    # Now click on any thumbnail in any new group, but not the original big default group you may have left some tabs in.
#A regular Firefox window will open, but'' only the tabs in that group will be visible.'' You also now have the Tab Groups button in the tab strip.
    # Right click on any tab, and there it is: Bookmark All Tabs. Click on it in the list of options. Or you can hit Ctrl+Shift+D instead and go straight to the dialogue box from the tab without any clicks. But don't go looking for this familiar option anywhere else, 'cause it's not there.
    # Now pick an existing folder or create a new one just like you would have before and '''shlpam!''' there they are. New folders are supposed to end up in the Unsorted category all the way at the very bottom, but for some reason mine show up at the bottom of my last sorted category.
    # DO NOT CLICK THE UPPER-RIGHTMOST X to close this group of tabs. This will close ALL of your tabs in all groups, currently visible or not. At least it asks if you're sure first. Instead, click your new Tab Groups button to return to the Boxes 'O Thumbnails window, and click the X in the group box you just bookmarked.
    # Click on another thumbnail to repeat the process with another group, or click on a thumbnail in the big default box to return to the original FF window. You can also click the Tab Groups button at the upper right, or Ctrl+Shift+E, which will also get you ''into'' the Boxes 'O Nails window ''from'' FF.
    # So now when you reopen FF after shutdown, simply select your folder from your Bookmarks and Open All in Tabs. '''Just like paulbruster said. '''

  • Personalization - which System Change Option is needed?

    Hi Friends,
Personalization does not work in Cosolidation or Productive System due to System Change options. SAP Help states, System change options need to be activated... but which one is is? There are lots of them and we usually are very restrictive with System Change options.
    Please help!

    In SE03, administration-->setsystemchange option
Right click and find the documentation available:
    Description
Use this program to set the system change option.
Use the global setting to specify whether Repository objects and cross-client Customizing are modifiable or not.
To make cross-client Customizing objects modifiable, you need to allow changes in the global setting and the Client Setting.
There is also another option for Repository objects: Each Repository object is in a namespace or name range, and in a software component.
So that a Repository object can be changed, you need to set the following to Modifiable:
    the global setting
    the namespace or name range
the software component of the object
You can set the software component so that the Repository objects are Modifiable, have Restricted modifiability or are Not modifiable. Restricted modifiability means that you can create Repository objects in this software component as non-original objects only.
You can set the namespace or name range so that its Repository objects are modifiable or not modifiable.
    Requirements
You need the administration authorization for the Change and Transport Organizer to execute this report program.
    Output
All software components and namespaces/name ranges are displayed. You can then make your changes to them.
    Example
    Notes
The SAP System logs this activity. To display the log of the system change option settings, choose Log.
The way the system change option is set has no effect on client-specific Customizing changes. The Client Control Setting determines whether you can change client-specific Customizing or not.
To set those namespaces for which you have the producer role to Modifiable, choose Edit -> Own namespaces modifiable. These include your own prefix namespaces, if you have applied for any from SAP. For more information on using prefix namespaces, see Help -> SAP Library -> BC - Basis Components -> Change and Transport System -> Namespaces and Naming Conventions -> Development in Reserved Namespaces.
    Hope this helps

  • Is there a way to restore to a prior point in time? I somehow lost all Tab Groups and Tabs...and Restore Previous Session is grey, so that's not an option.

I've gone through all support pages, and still can't find a solution. I'm needing to restore to a specific day/time period. I lost literally hundreds of hours of research...and MUST find a way to get those Tab Groups and Tabs restored.
Again, for some reason, the Restore Previous Session option is greyed out...and not an option.
From what I've read, there may be some files in the Firefox profile folder that can be used, but it's not clear the steps to take to see if this would do what I need, and before I mess with those files, etc... I'd really need someone from tech support to review all this and assist me.

You can try to restore a previous version of the sessionstore.js file.

  • No restore previous session option available and can't find sessionstore.js in latest firefox version.

After a crash, I turned on my firefox to find the restore previous session option greyed out. So I go to my profile folder to find no sessionstore.js file, I assumed this is because the lastest firefox made changes to where the session store is stored now. Where is the session stored now and is there anyway I can restore my previous session? I really need it.

Firefox still uses the sessionstore.js file in the profile folder.
Only the sessionstore.bak file in no longer used and has been replaced by backups and previous versions in the sessionstore-backups folder.
You can check <b>browser.sessionstore.*</b> prefs including browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash on the <b>about:config</b> page and reset browser.sessionstore prefs that are user set (bold) via the right-click context menu to the default value to make sure that Session Restore is enabled and working properly.

  • Second Update - I'm unable to restore previous session as I do not have the option on homepae or history menu

    Dear Sir/Madam,
I do hope you are able to assist me - I lodged a query earlier on today and got a response (I've put it below) really quickly and was much appreciated; however it didn't address my query (it seemed to just cover what I had already found on the website and not that I don't have the "Restore" buttons on either my Firefox homepage or on the pull down menu.
If you could let me know how to restore a previous session without either the "Restore" button on the homepage or the pull down Firefox menu, it would be appreciated (Also, I have not changed my settings)
    My initial query & reply:
I hope you may be able to assist me - my computer turned off while I was in Firefox and in the past this has been no problem as I always got the page giving me the option to recover my previous open pages. Today however it opened on the Firefox home page. I have tried to recover pages as per help instructions on the Mozilla pages, but on the Firefox home page I don't have the recover previous session button, and when I go to history on the Firefox pull down menu the "Restore previous sessions, Recently Closed Tabs, Recently Closed Options" selections have been disabled.
Could you please let me know how I can recover my previous session?
    Thanks and regards, Graeme

  • Firefox crashed and I am not given an option to restore the session probably because I deactived the history, what can I do?

After a crash I closed out of Firefox but have not been given an option to restore my session afterwards. Also in my chronicles no sites show up. I did deactivate the history at some point. Is there anyway to recover my previously open tabs?

I have been in there before and tried to change the restore settings but could not restore my session

  • Is it possible to NOT have 'Restore Previous Session' option come up automatically every time you start Firefox?

A large envelope pops up mid-screen every time I start Firefox, asking if I want to restore previous session. I don't want all users after me to have this option, but don't want to keep an empty history either. Can I deselect this option somewhere? Looked around, but found nothing.

Unfortunately changing the options found under "Completely disable session restore" does not make any difference to this problem.

  • Usually after Firefox crashes I can restore session but sometimes it won't let me. Is there a way to restore a session once automatic option goes away?

    1. Firefox crashes and an error message appears.
    2. I open Firefox again.
    3. Automatically Firefox asks if I want to restore the last session or start a new session.
    4. Usually it works to restore a session, but at random times, it does not and the following happens.
    5. I move the mouse toward the restore session button but don't quite get there when my usual home page opens.
Question: once this happens is there a way to get my old session back, like a place where you can manually request Firefox restart the last session?

did not have that extension installed, but did it now and can't find anything there that would concern tab groups. (also referred to as Panorama). This session manager seems to provide a lot of stuff that the browser is supposed to do anyhoo, but with more options of configuration. Hope extension and browser won't cause a mess while attempting to do both the same thing.
Yes, I know that Bookmark all tabs is still available via right click - after a google-search told me so. My feedback was - why remove functionality from the menu? It's really not overloaded - and I'd expect a menu listing me the complete set of functions a software allows me to do, unless it busts the menu. So I was just asking myself - how come it has been removed? Makes no sense to me.
    Thanks for your reply.

If you didn't back it up, your data is gone. There is no "solution" after the fact.

  • Where is the option to restore previous session?

I just upgraded firefox to version 29 and the dropdown menu in the upper left corner is gone. I can't find the options menu. I can search history, but I can't find the option to restore previous session. Ctrl+shift+t works to open tabs in the current session but it will not restore my previous session.
How do I restore my previous session?

I am experiencing the same problem and the option is greyed out. I also have it set to open at my last session which is not working either.
