Startup - System Error
Today, wehn I switched ON my mobile, it took longer than usual but when it finally loaded it gave this: 'System Error'. The device works fine though. Firstly, somebody help me by explaining what that is and why did it occur. Secondly, how can I correct it?
I own a Nokia E7.
Awaiting replies.

At startup-system error and divide by zero
I've been having a lot of problems starting up my beige G3 mini tower, it has 233mhz, 384ram, mac os9.1. I've zapped the pram and held the shift key down to boot with extensions off, didnt work. I've changed the battery twice in case the first replacement was bad, it started up and ran long enough for me to trash all the preferences, I tried to change the extensions, but when restarting it was back to not completely starting up. I've tried pressing the button near the pci slots with the battery out, 30 seconds, waited 30 minutes and held down the button for another 30 seconds, replaced the battery, checked the sound card for looseness then at startup it worked till I changed the time and date. I tried the battery and button again this time waiting over night between pressing the button for 30 seconds, after startup I was able to run disc first aid and it said everything was ok, then crashed again when I tried to change the date and time. I've even tried booting up from command/option/o/f, I'm not sure what firmware is but it would try to start up that way,but was very slow with a os cd in the cd drive. I tried to erase the hard drive but I couldnt get it to start up from a cd, iv'e tried os9, the original cd that came with the computer and a system recovery cd.
Most times when trying to start it up it chimes, then the happy mac with a grey screen, then the mac os screen, then the bomb with "system error" and under that "bus error" under that it says to restart with extensions off. sometimes the button for restart will even work with the cursor. Once, after trying to start up after all the battery removal, pressing button near pci slots , pressing com/opt/o/f, extensions off, the screen getting to the mac os then the bomb dialogue, it said system error and instead of saying "bus error" it said "divide by zero". Thats the first and only time I've seen that one. Also, the grey screen (with the happy mac disc icon) now has horizontal lines with texture? that I havent noticed before.
got any ideas what I should do next? I probably wouldnt bother with my G3 anymore because I just bought a new Imac, but I have a vinyl cutter hooked to it, it has the old round serial port cables and I would have to buy new software, cables and dongle to use it with my new Imac, I also have illustrator, photoshop, scanner, and drawing tablet on my G3 that I cant use on my new Imac (intel) leopard.
Is my hard drive or motherboard dying? is there a way to find out if and what hardware is messed up? and if so, is there still still parts out there for this G3?Hi, R1camper -
I ran disc first aid from the cd and and it said it couldnt fix-overlapped extent allocation,4,479.
That is a type of disk directory damage, one which Disk First Aid can not repair.
Alsoft's DiskWarrior can usually repair that kind of damage, with no loss of files. If you choose to go this route, suggest you call (or email) Alsoft's sales department, and request an older version of DiskWarrior - the current versions won't run on your Beige G3/MT.
However, if you can manage to live with the loss of files, you can probably replace the hard drive for less cost.
Your Beige G3/MT came with either an ATA (now often referred to as PATA and/or IDE) drive or a SCSI drive - it could have been ordered with either when the machine was new.
With luck it will be an ATA drive, since those are the least expensive and the easiest to install. Such drives are not Mac-specific - any ATA drive designed for internal use and of appropriate size will work. The only item of concern is to set the drive's jumpers properly. The drive should be jumpered as Master (it may come preset as Master or as Cable Select - Cable Select will not work on your model), unless it is a Western Digital in which case it should be set to Single if that is an available choice.
There is probably little to gain by getting a 7200RPM drive, especially if there is extra cost for one vs. a 5400RPM drive - the relatively slow internal bus speed on your machine will not be able to take significant advantage of a faster drive.
Re the RAM, if you have the time you might try replacing any you took out. Over time the contact the module makes in its slot can get iffy - removing and replacing the module usually fixes that problem, by wiping the contacts clean. -
System error type 41. Startup problem
I have an iMac (500) G3 (Summer 2000) and it will not complete its startup. It starts, then before it is complete I get a bomb message, 'Sorry, a system error has occurred."Time Synchronizer" Error Type 41. Restart.'
When you restart you get the same message. I have tried restarting from the CD, but the same thing happens. I can't use the computer to try things because it doesn't complete its startup. Any suggestions?I have been looking around and stumbled across KB 24431, Mac OS: Error Type 41.
Also in KB 30691, Mac OS: When and Why to Perform a Clean Installation it says
Exception: If the computer starts up to a Type 41 error with extensions off, the issue is probably with the Finder alone. Instead of performing a clean installation, drag the Finder file from the System Folder to the Trash, then perform a regular installation over the existing System Folder. -
Hello Guys
I recently faced a serious problem with my Nokia N97 Mini which is that all my messages are gone and some of my sound tracks are not shown and also the images
and when i start up my Decive i get a system error Warning
Hope you guys solve my problem
PS: i can't lose my Messages because they are important and contain serious stuff for meIf the messages are gone your only option may be to contact your sim provider and see if they have records, unless of course you have backed up your phone on Nokia Suite in which case they would all be on your computer. As for crashes , the N97 Mini is very old in technology terms, but you may be able to prolong its life by doing a hard reset and installing/reinstalling the latest available software. Whatever you do , back up the phone on a computer and at least you can save whatever data is on it at the moment.
Good Luck

Hi,
I am having a few problems with bootcamp on my imac. When i tried to move the bootcamp partition on windows 7 into free space, it crashed and turned off. Ever since i have had the error 'Missing operating system' and it fails to boot. I have some very important files on the bootcamp partition. Is it possible to recover these files or even to restore the bootcamp partition to it's original state? I do not have a backup of my bootcamp partition. Another problem i have is that ever since i tried to expand my macintosh HD partition into free space, when i hold alt while booting up (to choose which partition to boot like i normally do), the bootcamp partition has stopped appearing. This means that i cannot even boot the windows 7 bootcamp partition anymore!
So basically here are my 2 questions:
How can i restore/recover files from Bootcamp with Boot Failure - Missing operating system error?
How can i make the Bootcamp partition appear in Startup Disk and when i hold the option key while starting up my computer to allow me to boot windows 7?
Any solutions are very much apreciated!
Thanks!
I know that bootcamp (disk0s4) hasn't been fully deleted since it appears in disk utility (i cant do anything to it though)
And here is the error i see when i try to launch bootcamp (back when i was actually able to boot up bootcamp to the error screen)WinClone 3 is OS X and saves Windows image it makes for restore - that should work but you will have to try and you would need to make a new image unless it also works with a native Windows system restore image. It is now supported and has come a long way.

Paragon Clone OS works and does disk-to-disk clone just like CCC you end up with two bootable drives. But does not work with your setup. It would let you clone and move your Windows install to an SSD or another disk drive though and be bootable.
During its clone process it checks for errors which is very helpful and lets you know - something CCC and others should adopt more of.

I wish for our/my sake you had re-read and rewritten the long 'story' and broken it into a brief list of facts we needed.
OS X
Windows
Backup (though external is much safer) and you want bootable OS X clones as well as TimeMachine

There are a number of things to do like chkdsk and others as well as Windows DVD to do automatic system repairs and find out why.
AppleHFS - the abilty to mount and read HFS volumes can be notorious.
I would rearrange and redo your storage setup and how you use the 4-5 internal hard drive bays. -
I have windows 8.1 on DVD & on USB CF Reader/Card. I've followed the full steps in bootcamp, but when it restarts and its time to select the bootcamp partition to install windows (after alt rebooting to the efi startup) I get the "Windows can't be installed on this storage device. The chosen harddisk contains a MBR-partition-table. Windows can only be installed on GPT-harddisks on EFI-systems" error.
I've scoured the internet trying different solutions that seem to work for everyone else, but to no avail. I've reformatted from that screen, doesn't help. I've removed bootcamp partition and manually partitioned using disk util, leaving it empty once partition-wise, and filling it with a blank partition the second time. I've done a full back up and clean re-install of Yosemite, and nothing seems to be working.
Thats when I switched to DVD install, as I heard sometimes you can't install with a CF card. When I alt-boot, I can see EFI-windows and windows, but if I select EFI-windows, same problem as before, and if I select windows, I get the black screen of "no bootable device please insert boot disk and press any key."
I've been stuck w/o bootcamp for over 2 years now. Anyone, please help?
Mid 2010 iMac running 256gb SSD, Yosemite 10.10.1 trying to install windows 8.1I am having the same problem. Windows is trying to install. It identifies the various partitions but says that I cannot install Windows on the Boot Camp partition or any other. I select Drive options (advanced) and Format the Boot Camp drive, but it makes no difference.
This is the Windows error:
Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks.
Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer BIOS menu.
I am not sure what Csound1 is suggesting with that post above. There are some involved suggestions over here <https://discussions.apple.com/message/23548999#23548999> about using Disk Utility to delete the Boot Camp partition and create new ones - is that the idea? -

Upon start up of my laptop I get a APS Daemon.exe system error - MSVCR80.dll is missing. This just started out of the blue. At one point it told me to reinstall ITunes. Is that truly necessary?
I have the same issue after installing the new update and reinstalling iTunes doesn't fix the issue.
I found disabling Apple push (APSDaemon.exe) from the start up will stop the error from appearing, however this will disable wireless syncing. If you don't use it than it shouldn't be an issue.
I'm using a PC so you can disable it using the msconfig command and turning it off in the Startup tab. I don't know if Mac users are experiencing the same issue. Hopefully Apple will fix it in their next update. -

The Database is a small test database which is in ONLINE state an can be easily switch OFFLINE/ADMIN/ONLINE all the way.
I do an SELECT statement thru the SQL Studio and got correct result tables shown.
I do the same thing via JDBC an get an Error: [-9045]: System error: BD Root check. The FAQ told that it may be an hardware error, but since we are on a vmware plattform, there can't be a real hardware error.
What does this error mean and how could I solve them ?
I tried to recover from backup but that doesn't work.
Regards,

MDD FW 400 won't boot OS 9 | System error "Unimplemented Trap" Huh?
Hey guys, I need help with a weird problem. I recently bought a MDD dual 1.25 with 1.5MG RAM, CPU Type:PowerPC G4 (3.3), Boot ROM Version: 4.4.8f2. It came with a single 60 gig drive in it with OS 10.2.6, and it used to boot directly to the OS 9 system folder just fine. I took out that drive, installed it in my old Blue & White POS, gave that to my wife and now have: a seagate 80 gig drive (originally in the B&W), as well as a 160 gig & a 200 Gig.
All three drives have 9.2.2 on their own partitions, as well as on the 2 master drives with OS 10.3.8 & 10.3.6 respectively. I can’t boot directly to 9 from any of them.
The 200 gig drive was the only one of the 3 formatted directly from within the MDD, clean install, with OS9 drivers selected on install.
When I select ANY of the OS9 partitions, even the OS9 system folders on the OSX partitions for that matter, I get:
1. a grey screen (for a little too long)
2. then a happy mac box (and the cursor appears)
3. Then an empty floppy disk icon
4. Then a “?” inside the floppy disk icon
5. finally a system 9 style “bomb box” and:
“sorry, a system error occurred. Unimplemented trap. To temporarily turn off extensions, restart and hold down the shift key” .
There is a restart button. Perhaps I should mention the error dialog is apparently blocking what appears to be the “Welcome to Mac OS 9.1” screen before the icon march.
Maybe that 9.1 means nothing, but I HAVE NO 9.1 system folders on any disks. They are all 9.2.2... Well that part just bugs me.
The issue is that when I click “restart” and hold down the shift key as directed, the same actions above 1 thru 5 happen, and I’m back at the bomb.
The only way out of the cycle is to “option restart”, and all my partitions show up EXCEPT the OS 10.3.8 partition I had begun the process from. Since I have another OSX partition on one of the disks, I can select that and boot to it no problem. I am then able to select the original OSX partition on the “main” drive, and return to square one, where the cycle began. All the OS 9 system folders can be used to “boot” classic mode, and Tech Tool, Disk Warrior, all are run regularly and report minimal issues. The machine works fine, except for this one issue.
So, why is my MDD preventing me from booting directly into OS9? I read somewhere on another thread that the boot ROM is system specific, so that might answer why the drive pulled from the B&W won’t boot to 9, but the new drive was formatted by the MDD disks, and I even tried a reinstall of OS9 to that disk in an attempt to “unstick” the system. All system 9 folders reside on master drives (so slave is not the issue).
But none of the 9.2.2 folders when selected will bring me anywhere but the bomb, apparently “TRYING” to boot OS9.
WHAT am I missing here? Any ideas?
I need my Nine!!

B&W G3, Mirrored Drive Door G4, Beige Tower Mac OS X (10.3.8) Atto USB card, combo drive, super driveAJ,
Consider me dyslexic about the MDD. I don't know how
to reset the PMU on it. My beige G3 had a button on
the motherboard
there is a button on the motherboard of the G4. Location and color may vary. Usually black or red, mounted on a raised silver or black square...typically about 1/4" square
the B&W had a "programmers button" on the front faceplate
That's also known as an 'interrupt switch' With the appropriate debugger software, programmers could push that button and call up the debugger, which would allow them to trace their code and issue low level commands. Sometimes useful to break out of a crashed program without pulling the plug.
I know what I know from doing & reading and yes I have a
system folder or two that began in a 6320CD Performa
I think that was one of the machines that required a special file to boot - which is the file I cannot recall the name.
If that file still exists in your system folder, then it may be the culprit.
I'm certified dangerous because of knowledge gaps....
Aren't we all?
such as CDEVs are control panels?
CDEV is ControlDEVice, otherwise known as a control panel.
init's are mostly extensions?
Yes.
and what are TSR's?
Terminate and Stay Resident. Actually a DOS term for a program that runs, quits, but remains loaded in memory.
Apple calls them inits.
Many of the icons that appear during the OS9 boot process are functionally TSRs.
Init conflicts usually were the result of two or more of these programs fighting over the same block of ram.
It sound like you're asking me to search the system
folder for some invisible files correct?
No. The files should be visible. Since you can't yet boot to 9 (thus might not be able to get to use startup manager), I gave you the hard way to find and disable them.
Recall the OS9 startup mananager, which allows you to selectively enable and disable startup items? When you use startup manager, active items (with a check) will be in a folder named, for example, Control Panels. Inactive items, those without a check, will be in a folder named Control Panels (disabled)
To activate the startup manager at boot, hold down the spacebar. It should be the first thing to load. You can select OS9 only, none, or selectively tunr items on/off. Startup manager will automatically move items from the active to the disabled folder.
If you know the file names, you can manually move things from one folder to another, (which is the process I described)
All those files load in alphabetical order. Some of those items want to be loaded first, so the file was named with a leading space, period, or similar. ( Adobe type manager, for example)
There are a couple that are named such that they will load before startup manager.
Since your crash is almost immediate, I'm betting it's one of the first to load TSRs thats causing the problem.
The 80 gig resides in the B&W, so you're suggesting,
pulling it, installing it in the MDD & dragging the
system folder from there?
That is one method. Or mount the BW with Target disk mode and copy it across. Or copy the system folder to CD.
or if the machines are networked, copy across the network. Or USB memory stick, depending on the size of the folder.
The object is to get a known working drive with a known working/bootable OS into the new machine. Since I know my machine will not see either the 200 or 160 when boot to 9, and on some machines, 9 will not see anything over 128gb, I suggest getting a known good copy of 9 on a drive physically smaller than 128gb (not a sub 128 gb partition of a much larger drive)
Temporarily disconecting the larger drives has no purpose beyond helping eliminate the complexity during diagnostics and troubleshooting. You know they work as intended, and are not part of the problem. -
Recurring system errors lead to massive problems
Hello there,
sorry that I couldn't find a better title for my problem. But I really have problems finding the cause for these errors.
I have an mid 2011 macbook pro running 10.8.3 with an samsung 830 ssd inside.
So every once in a while I get massive system errors mainly after i wake it up from sleep. Mostly all open applications cannot write to the file system throwing different errors. Also my hdd starts reindexing the whole disk from scratch. If I restart my macbook even after unticking "open running applications again at startup" all applications get opend again. In this state I am also not able to open applications anymore. These start just jumping and close themselves after some seconds. Sometimes these errors still persist and only after some restarts I am able to close the applications correctly. E.g Firefox says that an instance of it is already running and that I can't run serveral instances of it. But firefox is not listed in "activity monitor"...
I copied some errors which get thrown by some applications:
Terminal.app:
- login(.....) malloc: *** error for object 0x7fe173400730: pointer beeing freed was not allocated *** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug
TextWrangler:
- MacOS Error code: -50: Invalid parameters were detected for an operation
- MacOS Error code: -102: No object of that in scrap
Webstorm: throws a java.io.exception
Could all this be a problem of the hdd? because i am at my 4th reinstall and these errors still come up randomly...
I would really be happy if someone could pinpoint the cause for these errors. Thanks in advance! So I double checked again and I have the latest firmware.
After the reinstall no big problems happend but now I am not able to fully copy some folders from my external hdd saying "finder cannot read/write files" even though I made "chmod -R 777" on that folder.
Also after downloading googlechrome.dmg the os says "the disk images couldn't be opened. Reason: image data corrupted". Even after several atempts of downloading. I tested on a mac pro also with an sasmung ssd and there copying the folder and running the .dmg works..
So it seems that the hdd is faulty. I have to talk to samsung then :/ -
I currently use Deja Vu Backup tool which installs and loads upon startup as a Service.
Just recently it is reporting the following:
SOURCE: /private/etc/cups/certs/0
DESTINATION: /Volumes/G6 RAID Backup/private/etc/cups/certs/0
ERROR: File not found (System Error Code -43)
REFERENCE: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=55743
Any ideas on what this means and what can be done about it.I have not seen that error ...can you email it to [email protected] and I will have a look

Hi,
I had a working XE on XP until now, but today I got a system error during startup:
"The OracleMTSRecoveryService service could not be started.
A system error has occured.
System error 258 has occured.
A wait operation timed out."
It is possible to connect through sql*plus, but the HTML DB doesn't work. I don't see any problem in alert_log. The OracleMTSRecoveryService can be started manually, but HTML DB is still out of order. What could cause this error?
Thanks,
LajosAfter a new XP startup the error has dissapeared. I could reproduce the problem after OS restart, but shutdown and new startup helped me. I have not changed anything, I don't know what was the reason.

I was downloading a program that wanted to also install a version of MySQL (I believe that this is the problem, although I don't know for sure) - as soon as it installed, this message appeared:
"STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000034 (0x00000000 0x0000000)
The system has been shutdown"
and the entire system shut down. When I restart XP, I get about two seconds before the error message appears and the whole thing shuts down again. I don't even know what's causing it, let alone how to get enough time to fix it. After a few restarts, Windows won't even load - it just goes to a black screen.
Also, the Boot Camp partition has disappeared from the Mac side. I can choose the Windows partition at startup, but it is no longer accessible from the Mac side.
Please help, I am at my wit's end, and I really don't want to wipe and restart the whole process.Okay ... if you have your XP installation CD, you could try booting from that into the Recovery Console:
[Description of the Windows XP Recovery Console for advanced users|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058]
That allows you a few diagnostic functions, although I'm not an expert in using those particular functions. A chkdsk /r might be worth a try, though, on the off chance that this is just a damaged file or folder (or piece of disk).
