Statements to validate about BPM and WorkFlow

Hi is it possible for experts here to validate,
1. SAP Business Workflow is primarily used to develop workflow mechanisms for SAP based systems
2. Components of a Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) like the compensation handlers, exception handlers are not available out of the box in SAP Business Workflow and SAP XI BPM
Would appreciate a quick response.
Cheers

Hi NS,
I do not know much on BPEL,
but I had read a blog by Alan.

  • Rename "BPM and Workflow" forum to "SAP Business Workflow"

    G'Day,
99% of posts in the [BPM and Workflow|SAP Business Workflow; forum deal with SAP Business Workflow. It was originally intended for ccBPM which - though they share some underlying architecture - is basically XI / PI.
A few ccBPM posts occasionally appear in the WF forum, but they are generally not answered and more appropriate in XI. These days I usually move them to XI when it's clear that the 'local' population won't answer it.
So to avoid confusion for people I propose to rename the forum to SAP Business Workflow or at least something that doesn't confuse it with XI.
    Any input welcome.
    Cheers,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
Well, you probably already know what I think ;).
If there is little to no traffic for BPM, then let's call the forum what it is, SAP Business Workflow - Or Workflow and Guided Procedures?
Sidebar: I posted a question to various forums a few weeks ago, regarding 'How can SAP, and ASUG WF/BPM serve you better'.  I am summarizing the responses I got below, in hopes that it helps guide you in your quest.  The names have been excluded to protect the identities, but I think there is some very valuable info in here.  Particularly the final point - which I will follow up on with the respondent.
Anyway, you didn't ask for it, but here it is.
    > 1. Have you attended any webcasts related to SAP lately?
No. Not lately, and not ever. (I suppose I am old-fashioned...)
    > 2. Are there any topics related to Workflow and BPM that you think are
    > important for the 'community'?
Integrating workflows and guided procedures - e.g. enhancing existing workflows to use browser interfaces.
    > 3. Looking ahead a year, what do you see as challenges in this area?
Processes that can be executed either in R/3 or in browsers, with information about the process progress etc, as in Guided Procedures. This will probably be the developers nightmare for the next few years.
    1. Have you attended any webcasts related to SAP lately?
-yes I did - quite a few, but mostly on web related stuff and XI.
    2. Are there any topics related to Workflow and BPM that you think are important for the 'community'?
    - personally for me, I still find the guided procedure in Portals not so user friendly and limited. I think more education and influence around GP will be great. I think the community will also appreciate it.
    3. Looking ahead a year, what do you see as challenges in this area?
    - GP and UWL. I think the concept of "IT doing the first time and the business managing their rules" would be challenging. I have not yet seen this happen, especially on the logistics side. There is a session this year on the same topic at TechEd and I look forward to this session. Hopefully it will help us get some insight.
Right now I am struggling with even getting Workflow off the ground and getting the business to understand what Workflow is and trying to have them budget for it. Workflow is still new to the functional group and even getting them to consider Workflow verse alternatives is somewhat of a challenge. I really have had a great consultant that has taken me under his wing and taken the time to teach me. I think we would be a great story for a presentation.
My challenges for the next year, is how to get over the hump of selling workflow to the business and actually getting projects planned out. I don't know if anyone has an anwer to that one. My other challege is how to handle transfer of knowledge and maintaining workflow that has been built by consultants.
    1)  I have not attended many SAP webcasts (just one on Solution Manager in the past few months)  I'm planning on attending one this comming Monday on BPM.
    2) I think understanding UWL / SBWP differences, advantages, limitations on one vs the other, would be an important topic.   Also more information on Extended Notiications
    3) Challenges: Upgrades and impact on WF,  Unicode and WF and having more WF ABAP OO objects delivered by SAP, other than the "Absence Notification" sample.
    1.       I havenu2019t personally attended but as a company we give a webinar once a week and weu2019ve had some great attendance
    2.       Technically I think weu2019re OK. We see the need to tell C-level execs where workflow / BPM can help them in businessu2026.
_3.       Workflow is becoming more and more obscure in the SAP landscapeu2026

  • BPM and Workflow for SRM 7

    Hi
Does anyone know if BPM (Business Process Management) supports SRM and specifically SRM 7.0?
Is it possible to create the workflow in BPM and then transfer it to SRM 7? Will that work flow be a "developed" workflow from SRM point of view?
    Sincerely
    Anders

    Hi,
In that case, I would use BPM for MDM and SRM workflow for SRM document approval.

  • Confused about import and workflow using existing filing system

Ok folks, I purchased Lightroom last week and I am still staring at an empty Library module. I have thousands of images but I seem to have been overcome by a case of anxiety/paralysis. Why, you ask? I can't determine an import strategy; here's why.
I maintain three versions of every photo: 1) Original RAW, 2)Processed Tif, and 3) a Screen/web-ready Jpg
Photos are sequencially numbered and maintained in folders as in the example below:
    - Main folder, 00001-00048
    -- 3 Sub-folders: RAW, Tif, Jpg,
    --- Each sub-folder has a sub-folder containing 24 photos (e.g 00001-00024 and 00025-00048)
    Method to my madness...
    - Each Main folder/content fits nicely on a DVD
    - 24 files to each sub-folder makes a nice printed 4 column, 6 row contact sheet and a 1024 x 768 contact sheet for the computer screen.
Obviously I do not want all 3 versions of every photo visible in the library but I do want access to all of them through LR. Can I import all three versions and stack them?
Also, I typically d/l my RAW files from a card reader to a d/l folder, preview and delete, process keepers via PS and save as Tif, batch rename picking up where I left off from the last batch, and finally resize/convert to Jpg and save copies. All files are then moved to numbered folders on a backup hard drive and burned to two DVDs.
Given the new/required import methodology, is this process of saving, renaming, moving to different folders, etc., still possible using LR, or do I have to reinvent the wheel?
Apologies for the lengthy post - appreciate any and all input. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
    Jeff

    > Can I import all three versions and stack them?
Well, you can only stack within a folder, not across the hierarchy. So they'll all need different names and to be in the same folder. But leaving them in their own folders should work, and there are ways to hide them, like making the RAWs red, the TIFFs green, and the JPEGs purple, or something like that. Then just filter for what you want.
Your downloading etc. system should still work in LR.

  • BPM and SOA

    Hi all,
I would like know your feeling about BPM and SOA.
Are BPM and SOA on top one of the other from a stack point of view ?
Or BPM and SOA are the two sides of the same coin ?
In your opinion is BPM that deliver service orientation or service-orientation comes from something called SOA ?
Thanks in advance for your feedbacks.

    Hello Pierluigi,
Business Process Management (BPM) is a term used basically for two things:
    1. A way to run, monitor and improve your business execution (the Business part)
    2. The name of specific tooling to support the above (the IT part)
There are non-techical aspects of BPM: there can be procudure changes, organization changes, role changes, product changes to achieve the goal of business improvement, which have nothing to do with IT. These are results of strategic, tactical or operational planning. Business process management is just a term for controlling and improving your processes: facilitated by anything which helps. (In BPM projects therefore some things might be better solved NOT trying to get everything automated.)
Where automation can help this, the IT part gets involved.
The IT part of BPM is where processes are modelled, controlled, monitored and changed through tooling. And tooling to run processes like workflow engines or process engines. Any form of process automation can be ranked under BPM. BPM as and IT concept than means that the processes are controlled and monitored by a separate component of your IT archtecture. This component in NOT actually performing system updates or transactions, it is merely administers the process-meta data of the execution, and orchestrates the events and actions which have to be performed to succesfully execute the process.
Where SOA gets involved is when you apply the open web services standard to design your running components in your BPM solution. Web services to utilize and support the process, web services to help the user interaction, web services to support the business transaction, and web services to actually update the systems. So SOA is just a way of implementing and supporting a BPM solution. On enterprise level it is wise to take the SOA route because interoperability is key to make things work, and changes/additions/integrations can be made far more easily when using the open web services definition rather than proprietary implementations.
The SOA design concept can also be used in non-BPM scenarios. When defining re-usable services which accomodate just simple transactions or look-up functions where no specific workflow is involved (PO Box lookup, search functions, etc.), web services can be a great way of providing an open interface to business logic.
Summarizing: BPM and SOA are two completely separate concepts and can be implemented without each other. However, when applied on enterprise level, the SOA design pattern will help you achieve the business agility goals you might have with your BPM implementation.
I hope this helps making things clear.

    Hi MasterBird,
    For SharePoint 2013 On-premise, we can :
Comlete control of our environment and data
    Supports heavy customization
    Keep sensitive information in-house
Easier integration into line of business systems
    Full development options for developers
    For SharePoint Online workflow:
Workflow 2010 & 2013 are available with Standard and Enterprise Editions without having to install
If using Windows Azure workflow functionality is the same as 2013
Cannot create custom Visual Studio workflows
For InfoPath Form Services you will need Office 365 Enterprise Could Edition or SharePoint Online Plan 2

  • SAP_WAPI_ATTACHMENT_ADD and WORKFLOW

I have a project about WD4A and workflow. I use a WD to trigger a workflow by raising a event of self-defined class. Meanwhile, I want to generate a pdf file as an attachment for the next receiver in the workflow. Method SAP_WAPI_ATTACHMENT_ADD need work item ID as a import parameter. Here is the problem, how can I get the work item ID after triggering the workflow?

    Hi,
You have to create a Method, in that method convert the Raw text to PDF. And send it as an attachment. Using the Function Module SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1.
Refer the below Program and create your Program.

  • BPM, Solution Manager, XI and Workflow

    Hello all,
I read that in XI/P, BPM uses the Workflow engine.

What is the difference between BPM in Solution Manager and BPM in Workflow? Do both systems use the old Workflow engine?

  • Confusion about BPM suite and BPA suite

    Hi,
I'm very very new to Oracle BPM.
I just checked the website and found Oracle provides two suites - BPM and BPA for business process management. I'm quite confused what's the difference of their usage? It looks to me that they are very similar to each other in functional.
Is there any article that has already explained their difference?
btw: if i want to choose a suite just for modeling, implementation and monitoring purpose, does that mean a BPM suite is more suitable?
    Thank you
    Lesley

    Hi Lesley,
BPA is an robust process modeling tool used by business analysts to model both their processes and the entire enterprise. BPA has many different types of diagrams that let you see the different levels of decomposition and abstraction. As you'd exect, BPA has a robust process simulation capability. If you hit the BPA forum (Business Process Analysis Suite you'll get more information about it from experts in BPA.
Oracle BPM was built and architected from the beginning as full life cycle Business Process Management (BPM) tool. It is similar to BPA in that it supports process modeling, documentation and simulation. I use the same diagram to explain the process to executives, managers, IT, SME and business analysts. As a business analyst, the tool is not complicated and can be learned in just a couple hours.
Here's where the two differ. Oracle BPM was architected from the beginning as a full featured Business Process Management tool that implements and monitors business processes. Its capabilities include:
<li> Logic - BPA is not a BPM tool so it is not intended to support the process logic needed for runtime. To support this, Oracle BPEL is used in conjunction with BPA. As a developer using Oracle BPM, I use templates and drag and drop to create much of my logic. Once I catalog an object it can be reused across multiple projects either by using the Project Dependency option or by importing the artifacts. I test my logic either by using the method editor debugger or at the process level. As I create objects used in my logic using Oracle BPM, I inherit attributes provided by introspected components. This means that if you have an ERP system object with 138 attributes, you do not have to rebuild this object from scratch in Oracle BPM.
<li> Runtime / Execute the Business Processes - End users interact with the processes at runtime using an OOTB Workspace. End users are given various roles. When they log into the Workspace, the end users only see the work item instances that are in the roles that they have been assigned. There is an Engine that stores the work item instance information as it flows through the processes at runtime. The Engine is like a traffic cop, ensuring that the right work item instance goes to the right person in the right activity at the right time.
<li> UI - The End user interface screens and complex end user interaction with a variety of screens can be built inside the Oracle BPM toolset's editor. The forms you build are automatically presented to end users in the Workspace.
<li> Integration to Existing IT Assets - Oracle BPM can expose and consume IT components directly or through a service bus. Once consumed, the components can be used by any process needing to invoke them at runtime.
    Hope this helps,
    Dan

  • BPM data increase very fast and want to get suggestion about BPM capacity

    Dear BPM Experts:
I meet a problem with BPM capacity problem. My customer using BPM 11g and every day they
Have 1000 new process, every process have 20-30 tasks, they find the data increase very fast, about 1G/day.
We have done a test about BPM capacity, I create a new simple process named simpleProcess.
which only have three input field, I use API to initiate the task and submit to the next
    person.
we using dev_soainfra tablespace, and we set the default audit level, after insert 5000 task, we find dev_soainfra is reach 362.375M,
So as assume 30000 task will using 362*6=2G database spaces, and because in next phases,my customer want
To push BPM platform to more customers, which means more and more customer will using this platform,so
I want to ask is it data increase reasonable? Do you have capacity planning guide for BPM 11g? and If I want to reduce
Lower The data increase, how can we do?
We have try to turn the audit log off, but it seems useless, it only save 8% spaces.
    Thanks for your help!

It looks like you are writing your data to disk every so often.  For that reason, I recommend making it based on the number of samples you have instead of the time.  With that you can preallocate your arrays with constants going into the shift registers.  You then use Replace Array Subset to update your arrays.  When you write to the file, make sure you go back to overwriting the beginning of your array.  This will greatly reduce the amount of time you spend reallocating memory and will reduce your memory usage.

  • About case and switch in multiple condition step in workflow.

i ve some information about case and switch in multiple condition in workflow.
    case - static determination
    switch - runtime determination.
but i want brief explanation about case and switch and difference please help me.....

    hi velmurugan............
        in case,
we can have only one value for comparison and can have any number of branches for it.
       in switch,
we can compare any number of values and have any number of branches.
    eg:
consider i am triggering a workflow for purchase order change and i am having a multiple condition step.
if i am going for a case:
i can have only on value (ie po number/vendor number.....) as a parameter and can check different values with it. ( eg vendor number < 1000
vendor number > 1000.... so on)
a branch will be created for each condition.
if i am going for a switch:
i can take any parameter needed. (eg: vendor number > 1000
order type = 'NB' .... so on)
so a single branch can have any number of comparisons with the help of 'and' and 'or' operators and i can have any parameter for my condition.

  • Integrating SAP BPM and existing workflows, does an interface exist?

    Hallo all
I have to evaluate how to build a set of BPM Workflows which shold incorporate "exits" into existing workflows (basically combining BPM and Business Workflows).  Do you know if there is a referenc on how such a thing could be acomplished or have some advices for a smart way of organising the interface between the two workflow engines?

    Hi Minima,
You may want to post this in the [BPM|SAP Business Process Management; forum.
