Static / Bad Connection for External Bose Speakers?

Hello Everyone;
I recently bought a new 24" iMac and bought a set of Bose Companion speakers to go with it. I've plugged them into the headphones jack using the cable provided by Bose, but my sound quality is really bad. Theres a lot of static in the music, and by moving the 1/8' male connector that plugs into my iMac around or touching it while music is playing causes more static or sound failure - making me think it may be the connection at the computer. On the other hand, I'm not quite sure if the cable I'm using is an "optical digital audio out port" as described in the Mac manual. I haven't seen an optical digital 1/8" cable, so this is making me think the cable is the problem. The speakers run spdif out to 1/8".
So before I take my mac to have it looked at, does anyone have any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong, or should be doing and or using differently? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks;
Steve Masten

Hi Steve,
I have exactly the same problem with my new iMac and my Bose Companion speakers (the ones with the 2 small cubes and a sub). The Bose speakers do not use a digital audio connection - so using Toslink would not be the answer.
I double-checked the connection on the back of the iMac and found that I was able to push the plug in a little bit more (it sort of clicked into place) - and that definitely helped some. As long as nobody touches it, it runs static-free....but even the slightest touch on the cable (or even the iMac sometimes) results in horrible static.
I'm considering trying another set of speakers because of this issue. I'm calling Bose tech support tomorrow because of this issue to see if they have any suggestions. I'll post back if I get any good info from them.

  • Minimum connection for external hard drive

Hopefully this is the correct subdepartment for this question.
I'm shopping for an external hard drive to which I'll be saving and storing movies and digital videos. The playback method will be a Powerbook G4 (15-inch FW800 1.5GHz) running DVD Player connected with composite cables to a TV -- any TV.
I'm searching for best value in terms of GB per dollar in the 300GB range. There are so many variables, but I think connection type is biggest factor. Are the USB 2.0 drives fast enough for what I need or would FW800 be a more reasonable minimum? Are there other more important factors?
    2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   23"17"PB15

Here's a portion of what I posted to a similar question. First, regarding FW400 vs FW800, if I were going to be reading data off a FW connection for immediate usage as you described, I'd want to use the fastest connection possible, FW800. From the other post....
A Western Digital 320 gb external enclosure (USB/FW 400) goes for around $200. However, all have one year warranties.
Another option, assemble your own, requires the hard drive and case: A 320 gb Western Digital, with a 5 year warranty, 7200 rpm ultra ATA interface (you can't use a serial ATA interface with a pre-Oct PB), cost for the drive around $140. They also make drives for a few bucks less with 3 year warranties. I prefer Western Digital drives over Seagate drives, as I've found them to run cooler.
Add a Rosewill RX30 external case (includes power supply and USB/FW 400) $60. This brushed aluminum case looks like it was made to sit right next to our PB's (I've got one). You can see it at their web site at http://www.rosewill.com/product/product.aspx?productId=80 or also at Newegg at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817173003. So for $200, you can have a 320gb hard drive with a 3 to 5 year warranty, and a stunning case. If you want, the Rosewill case also comes with FW800 for another $35.
Assembling it is very easy - you can read the directions on Rosewill's site at http://www.rosewill.com/RosewillSoftware/RX30_eng.pdf , for example. You disassemble the case by taking out 4 screws on the bottom of the Rosewill case, plug the included plug into the hard drive, secure the hard drive with 4 screws to the case, and reassemble it.

  • Bluetooth Connectivity For Music With Speakers

I have altec Lansing bluetooth speakers.
They work with lots of old phones playing music over bluetooth.
I've unpaired and deleted all old pairings with the speakers.
My 8520 connects to the IMT525 speakers fine.
It even has sound WHEN MAKING A PHONE CALL But as soon as i try to play a music file there is no sound from the speakers.
Only sound on the phone itself.
I have tried to 'Activate IMT525' whilst in the media/music player. that gives no error BUT STILL NO MUSIC PLAYED on the speakers.
Is there some special bluetooth setting i need to make?
again to re-itterate...it all seems to work with no error messages...just no sound from PLAYING MUSIC ONLY

  • Fire wire or usb Connection for external disk dvd disk drive

is it worth the extra money buying a external dvd re-wrighter with fire wire connection rather than the traditional usb connection? would it work like a normal disk drive as my internal dvd/cd drive is broken.

Ive got a budget of around £100 to spend and have been looking at a lacie dvd+16x light scribe 4.7gb/8.5gb with fire wire. Any idea if there any good?

  • Quick connection for external hard drive

I have an internal hard drive which I want to quickly connect to my PB so I can initialise it and make a clone.
I don't have an enclosure at the moment, and I'm sure I've seen a ribbon cable which enables you to attach the drive on its own to the firewire port (with the 40 pin female on the other end).
Am I imagining this? If not, what's it called and where can I get one?
    Thanks.

Hi, Dan. There are USB2 adapters of the sort you describe, but I haven't seen any equivalent FireWire adapters advertised. I took a look around for one a couple of weeks ago and had no luck at all. Maybe someone else has been more successful and will post a link.
The downside of USB2 for your purposes is, of course, that you can't boot a PowerPC Mac to a USB device — so there'd be little point in cloning a whole drive to one as a backup strategy.

  • Port has bad connection for charge and data

how can I rescue my address book on the Blackberry when the mini-USB port is damaged or worn-out?
When I plug-in the known-good charger and the known-good wire to try to connect/power the BBerry, the device is very sensitive to being on or off, and I cannot hold it in connected position for very long.
    Any ideas?

  • "Cannot Get JDBC Connection for external changed actions"

Does anybody has had this message and got around..I have Hyperion System 9 9.3.0.1 installed on a windows 2003 server. Sql Server 2003.
    Any ideas are highly welcomed!!
    Thanks in Advance :)

    Hi Ankit Jain
    yes it's the second option,
exactly the error occurs when I click the icon to select the repository of work - work_dev
    then this exception is generated
    =
    I select for the field
    Drivers List -
the value >> Oracle JDBC Driver
and then is placed in the Driver Name field
    value>> oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver
and after I put a URL
    jdbc: oracle: thin: @ (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = sss.rrr3.ttttj.ggg.br) (PORT = 1521)) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED) (SERVICE_NAME = RRR3) ))
    It should say
    that
This is occurring on a machine, but others the same configuration is working
I think it's something of the environment on this machine,
but no longer know what to test
    grateful for your attention.

  • Problems with wired connection to external speakers - 8330 Curve

I have a boombox and travel speakers I use with my 8330 curve. When I connect these to my 8330 with a 3.5mm cable (3 contacts, not 4) I get static between each song. I am guessing this has something to do with using a 3 contact male connector into the 4 contact female connector on my device. I understand the 4th contact is used for microphone on a headset, but I only want to connect to my speakers for music.
Any thoughts on how I can connect to external speakers and eliminate the static? Is there a 3.5mm adapter that goes from a 4 contact male to a 3 contact female? Blackberry offers a 3.5 male to 2.5 female adapter which is not what I am looking for, plus I believe it is still 4 contacts so it would not resolve my static problem.
I am hoping for a resolution without resorting to the Bluetooth gateway.
    Thanks!

Unfortunatly, I can't help with the cabled connection static issue.  However, I'll plug the Gateway.  I have one and it's absolutely awesome.  It works flawlessly and I wouldn't trade it for a cable for anything.

  • Is there a way to connect an external speaker (for another room) through the headphone port

Is there a way to connect an external speaker (for another room) through the headphone port  & still hear sound through the internal speakers?  System Preferences/Sound/Output or Sound Effects allows you to use one or the other  --  headphones or internal speakers.  I would like to have the option of hearing music through the internal speakers in one room, & through an external speaker in another room at the same time.  I also do not want to frequently disconnect/reconnect the external speaker from/to the headphone port as I know over time the connection could become loose.  (10.7.4  Lion)

dont think so but I could be wrong
as it were I didn't like the build in audio so I connected some external logictech 2.1 speakers  but there
are times when I use headset so I bought this one
or any minijack splitter will work too so I have 2 things connected to the headset port works just fine

  • Connecting two external speakers

    hi
i have one small question: is there any real harm into connecting two external speakers directly to the mac without the help of an amplifier?
    will there be any problems?
    thanx for replying

I did actually hook 'em up, without the amplifier and it does work with an acceptable level of sound(sounds quite nice) but i need to know whether this will har my mac in the long run.
I have two JBL column speakers.

  • Caused error -3256 when attempting to connect to external speakers.

I'm trying to connect to my Airport express using a PC running Windows XP home Edition SP 3 with iTunes 8.0.2 and getting the following error
caused error -3256 when attempting to connect to external speakers.
I've searched on teh internet and everything seems to relate to the Mac OS.
Anyone running XP had similar issues?
My AirportExpress is running FM 6.3
    Thanks
    Marcus

After reading this discussion thread, I've seemed to have solved the problem for myself. I'm using the Trend Micro PC-Cillin Firewall. I disabled it and the airtunes worked. So, I went into the firewall settings. There's the ability to edit the profile and add to an exceptions list. You select the executable program, select incoming or outgoing, I accepted the other default settings and it worked.

  • Ports for External Connection

Hi, i have one problem, i dont know what's ports i need to open in my modem for one user in other network connect in my network. I need to make a NAT for this, but i need to know apple remote port for external connection. And sorry for my english, bad.
    thank's.

You need to open TCP and UDP port 3283 and, for ARD 2.0 and later, TCP and UDP port 5900. For encrypted file transfer (ARD 3.x), open TCP port 22. You may also need to open TCP (and perhaps UDP) 5988 and 5989, though it's not clear under what circumstances this will be necessary.

  • Excel Services Connectivity on Sharepoint 2013 for external user

Currently , external user is able to refresh the data on sharepoint site through browser. the data connection is pointing the one of the external data source. But how can an external user (Internet user which accessing sharepoint through internet) download
a copy of excel in sharepoint library and open the excel workbook with data refresh ability at client machine ?
Do we need client machine to be able to access / ping the external data source?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the response.
They want to perform data analysis and design their own report with own template , for example : to remove subtotal from the powerpivot tables which we cannot change the formatting at the excel services at browser level.
So if i understand correctly, we need to get the client machine to be able to access to the database server directly to get the access to the cube for data analysis although we had this odc file connection setup, am i right?
For internal user, network team should open port / access for them to access database server directly.
For external user, either to open public access to the database server directly or setup a VPN connection for the external user to access the database server in their secure network.
Let me know if i understand this correctly.
    Thanks.

  • How to connect my iphone 4s to a USB sound card for 5.1 speakers?

How to connect my iphone 4s to a USB sound card for 5.1 speakers?

    You can't:
    1. iPhone sound output is stereo, not Dolby 5.1 compatible.
    2. iPhones do not connect sound output by standard USB.  The connecting device has to be iPhone compatible.
