Static, crackles, pops and dragging audio in Windows 7 64bit

<'sHey guys
I`ve just installed Windows 64 bit and im facing static, crackles, dragging audio, while im listening to music , or even watching a movie(in window mode) and at the same time im browsing the?internet, scrolling?up and?down. etc facebook page.
The think is , its not the sound card(i have X-FI Elite PRO)?because , i`ve tried also the onboard and still the same problem. I`ve seen this problem to many forums but no answers that are fixing the problem.
The sound is terrible.
Anyway , please help.
Thank you

Hi,
Are you using a software that's called "AI Suit"? (Asus own overclock tool). If this is the case disable it or if that does not work, then uninstall the software and see if it hel
ps.
Otherwise clear cmos (see the instruction in your motherboard's manual) and load the default settings for the bios for the time-being, boot into Windows and see/hear if there is still popping/crackling sound. Also try to update the motherboard with the newest the bios, maybe it will help.
Hope this works for you,
Good luck!

  • Audigy 2 ZS Snap, Crackle, Pop and a c

I just got a new Audigy 2 ZS. My system is as follows:
    Athlon XP 2800+
    Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro
    Nvidia 5900
    .5GB DDR
    Altec Lansing 4. speakers
I have all the latest drivers and bios for everything. I've switched PCI slots and I've tried all the knowledge base action items. The speaker config is for 4/4. speakers.
I get crackling, popping and an occasional chirp with most applications:
    Musicmatch Jukebox 0
    Adobe Audition .5
    Magix Audio Cleaning Lab 2005
    Windows sounds
    Half Life 2
I don't get the sound problems with some applications:
    Creative MediaSource Player
    Sid Meier's Pirates
    Rome: Total War
    Riddick Escape From Butcher's Bay
    Half Life 2
I listed Half Life 2 because it is the clue! After installing the card, I got horrible sound from HL2. I opened the audio properties and the game was configured for 2 speakers. I changed the config to 4 speakers and the sound is perfect and amazing.
I went back through the applications, and the ones that work are driving 4 speakers, and the ones that don't are only driving 2. This looks like a straight up driver issue. If the application asks for 2 speakers only, then the card produces distortion.
If anyone can confirm this observation, then perhaps it will point toward a fix.

Thanks for the tip. I tried it and unfortunately it didn't work.
Since the card will produce clear sound when driving all 4 speakers, the card and speakers should be ok. I'm still getting the problem when any application is only driving 2 speakers. This one's a real head scratcher.

  • LOGIC PRO 9 - glitches in the form of crackles/pops/snaps in audio

hey guys, im new to logic but im not new to music production. ive been having alot of problems with my logic studio 2.
    the problems are as follows
.when about halfway through a new track logic suddenly decides to add a crackle sound in an audio file. This happens even when the file is muted and also i have used many different buffer sizes to try to rectify this. I have also tried starting a completely new song with different audio and still the same problem happens. this problem also happens when i have disconnected all of my interfaces including my soundcard. after doing this i have realized that the problem must lie within logic and i am completely clueless as what could be causing this very annoying problem.
if anyone could help i would very grateful
    thanks

hey logic expert! you fixed my problem.....its the most simple thing and i didnt even think about it! it was a psp vintage warmer that was causing the problem

  • Premiere Pro Crackling / Popping When Exporting Audio

I'm trying to export a movie from Premiere but it's started adding popping / crackling to the audio that's exported.  I've tried it as an h264 mov, dvd w/ Dolby Digital, Dvd w/ PCM, it does it on all of them.  As far as I know it's not a sample issue (source is 48 khz and so is output).  It could be related to bit depth (source is 24 bit Mono PCM 48 khz L & R channels on the timeline) since it's all being exported as 16-bit.
Whatever it is seems to be specific to Premiere.  I exported it as a 24-bit Wav with no problems, and then sent it through Media Encoder to turn it into a 16-bit DVD PCM audio track again with no problems.  Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

    First a few questions...
    1. Are you playing the move back using QuickTime player?
    2. Do you happen to be using a Firewire audio interface (i.e., Presonus StudioLive)
    3. Does it happen if you play the audio back through the internal speakers?
A couple of things to try...
    1. download and install VLC <VideoLAN - Download official VLC media player for Mac OS X>
    2. try playing back your movie and see if the popping still exists.
If you are using a Firewire audio interface (even if you adapt it to Thunderbolt), I found a strange work around that allows me to play movies back in the QuickTime player. I launch Adobe Audition ... and the popping no longer exists.
I think it's an Apple bug with the QuickTime player. Hope one of these solutions works fro you!

  • Quicktime 7.5 - Black Video and no Audio - Using Windows Vista

    Hello,
I tried asking this, but I don't think I was clear enough.
Current Computer - Dell Inspiron, Quad Core, 4gig Ram, < 1yr old.
    Running OS - Vista Home
Up until recently Quicktime worked fine, then all of the sudden the video is gone.
The audio is still there however.
What I have done to try to resolve -
    1) Reviewed previous topics and tried the following -
    a) update Preferences to Safe Mode (That made a white stripe in the black screen)
    b) Update preferences to remove Direct 3D video acceleration, nothing changed
    2) Reinstall Quicktime 7.5 - No change, still shows BLACK video and will play audio
    3) Reinstall Itunes with Quicktime - No change still shows BLACK video and will play audio
Thank you for any help you can provide!

I have found a temporary workaround for this. I can open the indeo 5.1 formatted avi's in another program (either fade to black or virtualdub) and change/convert to another indeo codec called IYUV (as opposed to IV50) and while it renders a much larger avi file, those DO open in Quicktime, and when I export to convert this larger avi into a MOV file, it is about the same file size in the end product as the ones I render from the same 5.1 avi on the other computer. Knowing I can do this as needed saves me having to re-render all 400 or so of my avi's to another codec or lose them.
I STILL think there is a fix out there that is related to somehow telling the registry to recognize the ir50_32.qtx codec the same as I finally did to get Windows MP to play these files, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet.
Progress is supposed to make these files SMALLER with BETTER quality, but all I see so far with these "new improved" codecs is bigger files and no better (or even worse) image/sound quality. I'll change to more "modern" codecs when they show me one that is an actual improvement over the old one based on this criteria. And AVI remains the ONLY file format that can be extensively modified and edited artistically (zoom, crop, add watermarks and color filters and special effects). Apple is shooting themselves in the foot if they make us unable to open our AVIs in the pro version so we can continue to use QT Players on our web pages. I LIKE the mov finished product for both file size and quality, and I am happy to drive new customers to them as long as they let me convert my files in QT Pro. When I can't any longer, I'll convert every single website on all my websites player to Flash.

It works fine on Nokia N95 .

Have a look at the code
    try {

                        oPlayer.realize();
                        RecordControl oRecordControl = (RecordControl) oPlayer

Can any one tell me way to excecute this code on above mentioned (windows mobile)

Ok i understand but what emulator did you use for windows mobile? Did you use j9, cre-me or other emulator?
I use the j9 for windows mobile so i can run j2me application, but as far as i know it doesn't have the mmapi package.

  • Encore adds random static (Popping and Crackling) to audio from AVI files

We spend the whole day today trying to debug this problem... any help would be greatly appreciated.
We have a large conversion project where we are capturing VHS videos and converting them to DVD.
For those that require chapters, we are using Encore CS4.
All of the videos were captured the same way, in an AVI format.
We have found that when we load them into an Encore CS4 timeline, we will hear random static sounds -- pops in the audio.
We believe the AVI file is clean.  We can watch the video in Windows Media Player, and the audio is fine.  We can burn the AVI file to a DVD video using another low-end package (Power Director) and the DVD is fine.  The AVI files have been run on other systems, and the audio crackling sound does not present itself.
But when we try to use Encore, some of the files exhibit the crackling sound.  (Note that not all of the files have this problem.  But those that do exhibit the problems will exhibit them every time.)
We tried loading them into Premier -- same thing.
So, this problem seems to be limited to Adobe tools.
We are running Windows 7 on an Intel i7, ATI Radeon card... a really fast, strong, stable system.
At this point we're not sure what to try...
We have attempted to pre-encode them using Adobe Media Encoder.  Same results, regardless of which audio settings we try.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • Static, Crackles, and Pop Sounds

I have a Sound Blaster PCI Express X-Fi Xtreme Audio sound card?(.04.0000 Drivers) and it makes crackles and pop sounds when:
    - I'm watching a video online in fullscreen (for example: Youtube, Gamespot, IGN)
    - When I'm watching any video in fullscreen on Windows Media Player
    - When playing a certain DVD or CD rom (for example, a movie or a music cd) the sound will go all static
    - The sound will also crackle and pop in other programs when a movie or music DVD/CD is in my dri've, but not in use
    - Certain games are unplayable because of all the static sound (for example: Starcraft)
    - When I play?Street Fighter IV and Battlefield Heroes, I don't experience crackling or popping, but rather?poor sound quality (it's like sound coming from very bad?speakers with no bass).
    My specs are:
    Windows XP Professional SP3
    Intel Core i7 @ 2.67Ghz
    3 GB DDR3 Ram
HIS Radeon HD 4870 52 MB
    Asus P6T Delxue Motherboard
I have disabled EAX Effects, X-Fi CMSS-3D, and X-Fi Crystalizer in the Creative Console. The sound card is currently in my PCIe x6 slot. I have tried putting it in my PCIe x4 Slot, but I get the same problems. Also, when I plug in my mic, it does not work! Why is that? and how can I get rid of these crackles, pops, and static noises?

Turns out I'm not very familiar with the Xtreme Audio cards which I'm pretty sure don't have an X-Fi chip, just some X-Fi algorithms in software. I'm not sure how much help I can provide. Have you tried CL Support?
What are you using for speakers?
If you get complete static, that could be attempting to send an encoded track like Dolby Digital, DTS, DTS CD Audio, to analog speakers. That would be a matter of making sure the player software settings are correct.

  • 0404USB Pops and Crackles

I have just purchased the 0404 USB audio interface in hopes that it would solve problems I was having with the audio for Proteus X and M Audio Key Rig. So far no luck. My computer is a Gateway 7330GZ laptop running a Pentium 4 at around 3ghz with 512mb of memory. All of the system details exceed the specs for both the 0404 USB Audio Interface and Key Rig. Yet no luck in getting Key Rig to actually produce decent sound for any length of time. Too many crackles, pops and eventually almost straight pink noise. If used with ASIO4All key rig crashes after running for a few minutes. I am sure I could use some additional RAM but do not want to keep buying things under the hopes that one of them eventually will solve my problem. The "onboard" audio on my laptop uses a Conexant Audio driver. I can get Proteus to sound OK but the latency is unacceptable.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers.
The 0404 is connected directly to the computer's USB port and reports USB 2.0 as its speed.
I have installed the production tools bundle of software.
Sonar's playback of audio on one of the sample projects works great.
Have adjusted latency all over the place and have not been successful with M Audio Key Rig. I can get Proteus X to work with significant latency but then I cannot play it properly because the delay is too great.
I have mostly used 44K and 48K sample rates, but I have tried all of the sample rates and latencies available.
I have stopped all unnecessary services, used msconfig to run only a limited array of drivers and programs, disabled the driver for the onboard audio card, and I have then used msconfig to load everything. Nothing solves this problem. I have uninstalled ASIO 4 ALL and ASIO2KS which are other ASIO drivers that I had previously downloaded and used. I have downloaded an ASIO test signal and it has the same problems which is that when a sine wave or a sweep is selected it crackles and pops. You can hear the sine wave frequency and/or the sweep but not without random crackles and pops. I used DPC latency checker and disabled almost everything in Device Manager, one item at a time and latency checker would never render a good report if anything was using the ASIO driver. I could run programs like Microsoft Excel, that do not use ASIO and latency checker would render a good report. But the minute I started a program that used ASIO latency checker would turn its green bars to yellow and red indicating that the system would not playback audio well.
I can play back non ASIO audio just fine. Unfortunately I only have a few days before my return period expires and if I cannot resolve this in the next few days I will have to return the product.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Audigy SE: Snap, crackle, pop / hardware not fo

You think you have problems... take a look at mine... all CL relavent... I have a problem that Dell says they can't isolate, and sware they will make Creative's problem if our next course of action doesn't resolve the snap, crackles and pops in games (like Flight simulator 9 and 0, and WoW). Yes,?integrated MB?Sigmatel drivers (merge between CL and another company) and PCI SB cards have the same problems... Snap-crackle-pop and the continual "SCHHHHHH..." sounds. My system is a Dell, which of course, gives me a little support, but not much. Please read... With tech support through Dell from India and Canada, my system, w/o CL cards installed creates snap, crackles and popping sounds in any 3D engine game (like FS 9 and 0, and WoW). Dell has no idea how to solve this problem, after installing drivers for DX, doing and IDE config, reinstalling my onboard Sigmatel drivers, changing the hardware acceleration and sample rates, simply unplugging and plugging back in the input jack leading to the speakers, trying a CL's sound card, like the Audigy SE (with its own problems much like what my onboard integrated Sigmatel drivers do)...etc. Now, to all of you experiencing CL's problems, I have already tried updated drivers, moving the card from one PCI slot to another (through all PCI slots), adjusting volume levels, tried playing a DVD (couldn't hear anything well from the DVD beacuse the volume, though maxed out, wasn't loud enough), tried a SB 5. Dell Digital (same problems), and the list goes on. My system:?OS: Windows Media Center 2005Dell E50 3ghz P4 w/ ATI PCI hypermemory 256 video card(2) free PCI slots available after vidoe and TV out cardSigmatel integrated sound (not a 3D sound engine...they admitted that)2.5 gb DDR2 SDRAM, 400mhz?This isn't top of the line, but the next course of action from Dell is to wipe my system clean of WMC 2005 and install Windows XP Pro, at their cost, not mine (thank God for tech support extended warranty). At least then I will have CL driver's. After reading this post, however, and many on this forum, I find that CL's has not addressed the fundamental "problem". So, I wonder, after all is said and done, CL's hasn't really isolated the problem? What gives? It would appear the OS doesn't matter, so maybe the Chipset does? or is it the 3D sound engine? i am not a tech, and Dell tech support can't figure it out, either. So, any suggestions?

... and by the way, the cards won't even install with CL's software from the CD on to the system. The only way to get any of the cards to work, if at all, was to force the driver to work (going in and saying "I want THIS driver installed"). The software on the CD won't run (multiple cards...dell digital, Audigy SE, li've 5., etc) nor will the downloaded drivers EXE file run. When I forced the driver to work I got the "SCHHHH" sound, instead of the advertised "PERFECT UPGRADE FROM THE BASIC MOTHERBOARD AUDIO TO OUTSTANDING MUSIC, MOVIE AND GAME SOUND". In my case, the sound was no-more superior than a fart in space.

  • Chromium + pepper flash + pulseaudio = static/crackling noise.

With pulseaudio and chromium+pepper flash from the AUR I get static/crackling noise in the audio. If I disable pulse and just use alsa I don't receive any static/crackling noise... Is there any way to fix it?

  • 10.4.10 - Speakers crackling & popping

After installing the 10.4.10 update my external speakers crackle and pop before and after my computer makes any sounds.
I've noticed a lot of other people complaining of these same problems lately. I recommend everyone give a listen to your speakers after installing the update. Make a post here on this forum so we can keep track. I suggest the "Snap, Crackle Pop" thread. That one is popular for this problem
Anyway so far I've tried installing the combo update over top of the current one, and it didn't do any good at all.
Still crackling, popping, and driving me crazy.

That people aren't hearing the pops doesn't mean the problem isn't affecting them. Maybe these people still haven't plugged in external speakers. Maybe their speakers filter out the bursts, either actively or simply due to poor frequency response. Maybe they don't have subwoofers attached. Maybe their volume settings aren't set appropriately to aggravate the problem.
It's quite obvious, especially from the people that have watched the behavior of the optical output, that the audio circuitry is shutting off after several seconds of inactivity. It's also obvious in the initial delay before sound starts playing, as the circuity powers on. This is present even with internal speakers, although it may not be possible to hear the pops that you would hear with a subwoofer.
    There are two equally-likely possibilities:
    1. The circuitry always wants to shut down, but previously, Apple was (intentionally or otherwise) keeping the channel active, preventing the sleep, or
    2. Apple broke the AC detection that prevented the circuitry from going to sleep unless the computer was battery-powered.
You can't chalk this problem up to "variations in components". Variations affect things like frequency response. Shutting off and on is a binary operation, and it's controlled by sending the chipset a specific opcode. Either you need to send an opcode to keep the chipset alive when it wants to shut down, or you send an opcode when you want it to sleep. Either the right opcode is not being sent, or it is being sent at the wrong time. This is a software problem. It's a driver problem. And I got my audio drivers from Apple. They broke this.

  • Audigy2 ZS produces crackling/popping noise if Media player is not started as the first prog

    Hello all!
I have had lots of problems installing my Audigy2 ZS Video Editor, but I have finally got it to work (at least under limited conditions).
When I start my laptop, I have to start Windows Media Player right away in order for the music to sound OK (I have the Audigy2 connected to a Pioneer receiver through a digital coax cable).
If I start any other program first (e.g., Microsoft Explorer, Outlook, Word, quicktime) sound from the soundcard is heavily contaminated with crackling, popping and just general noise. The only way to get it to work again is to reboot.
The same problem occurs if I start another media program e.g., Quicktime, winamp, (after having started Windows Media Player) that accesses the soundcard. The only way to get good sound again is to reboot and immediately start Microsoft Media Player.
I have tried lots of things including cleensweep, re-installation, driver update etc. etc...
What is the problem? Is there a cure? Can I adjust some settings to get it to work or is it a serious bug?
If anyone knows what may be the problem and how to solve it, please advise!!!
    Thanks!!

    Genki,

  • Can't Drag Audio into Storyline

I'm a newer FCP X user. In the past, I was able drag audio clips from the side audio panel/library into my storyline. For some reason I can no longer move audio clips into my storyline, I think I change a FCP setting by accident. Whenever I select/click-on and audio clip from the audio panel/library, the background of my storyline viewer turns from a light gray to dark gray. In the past, this did not happen, I could just click and drag audio into the storyline and the background of the viewer did note change color. Now I can move audio into the storyline.  Does anyone have any ideas as to what happened. Thanks

Trashing the preferences does not touch your projects or your application. Preference files are kept separately and they do someties get corrupted. Trashing them is one of the first steps to troubleshoot problematic behavior in FCP X and other applications.
To trash your preferences, you can use Preference Manager:
