Static Distortion in HS-1000 headphones

I recently purchased a HS-1000 headset, and after the cd failed to install anything for some reason, I simply downloaded the necessary drivers for the headset. The first time I used it, it sounded great. However, the next time I used the headset it had a constant static-like sound distortion. I tried reinstalling the drivers, getting the necessary firmware updates (I have vista 32-bit), and even downloaded the update for the creative entertainment console. Initially, the first time after updating the firmware the headphones worked fine. But then the second I used them after updating it went right back to having distortion again. I even tried disabling my wireless card, but that did nothing.
Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated, as I really like this headset and would love to make it work.

I have also been following that thread having problem with my headset as well. Just so sad that creative has not responded to help us who have problems with this product. Customer service is also the same. Hopefully in time they will respond.

  • CD-R has static/distortion

I burned a CD-R in iTunes v.10.1 but there is static/distortion toward the end of the CD-R. This is a first. Any suggestions as to what went wrong? Thanks so much.

Thanks so much. After posting my question I found a Forum suggestion to undo any iTunes Equalizer settings, so I did; and also lower the burn speed, so I burned a new CD-R at 6x. It seems to have worked.
    Glad it worked.
If I use iTunes and iVolume to adjust the volume levels before I burn a Playlist, would listening with headphones be the best way to make sure I am satisfied with the volume of each song in that particular Playlist?
If the choice is computer speakers or high quality headphones, you will hear better over the headphones. iVolume is quite good at equalizing, but for best quality you should listen and evaluate.

Ok so I've been doing more testing. It's all videos on the iTunes store. Anytime I try to download a podcast or stream it or anything it's super slow. To download an episode of Diggnation it tells me over 2 hours to download but the time keeps climbing and I just stop the transfer.
Some people said it's an Open DNS thing? Maybe it is but it's not computer specific and I couldn't find a way to change the DNS settings in my Airport, only on each computer. I tried deleting PLists and restoring my Apple TV and restoring my Airport and nothing is working.
I don't know if it an issue with me, my ISP or Apple. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

  • Firewire Audio Static/Distorted

In the middle of a project today, during playback, audio through Firewire deck became static, distorted, too loud. Audio meters in FCP are fine, but meters on firewire deck are pegged. Tried other projects and they have same problem. Swapped firewire cable to no avail. Switched over to my MacbookPro but rest of my regular peripherals and played the same project without the problem... so it must be something in my MacPro Tower. If I set FCP to playback audio through computer, not firewire, it plays fine.
    Ideas?

I've seen this issue on several IntelMac edit stations when FCP 6 was first released on through v6.0.2. Just to compare, the problem I've witnessed is that the Firewire audio out will suddenly be nothing but digital garbage; distorted, garbled, scratchy noise. Changing the audio routing to the internal speakers results in normal audio, but as soon as you change it back to Firewire (or Audio Follows Video), nothing but garbage again.
AFAIK, trashing preferences has always worked ... keep us informed on what you find out.

  • A non-solution to the static distortion problem

I don't know if there's any chance of the following "solution" having value to anyone else but I'll submit it to be filed in the "For What It's Worth" folder.
First, by way of preamble, I've upgraded iTunes a number of times now (going back to v. 4.6.0.15) and this is the first time I have had any sort of issue - the static/distortion problem that is presently being much-discussed in these forums.
Following the leads in the early threads on this topic, I played a handful of song files with QuickTime and confirmed that everything sounded fine with that player.
I went back to iTunes and the problem remained, although it struck me that it wasn't as severe as it had been.
I continued playing songs, hoping for some sort of insight into what had gone wrong when it slowly dawned on me that the static/distortion had ended ... and I hadn't done anything - changed settings or anything else - except simply play songs.
iTunes has been playing for a couple of hours now with no further sign of the problem.
One final point of information, I'm guessing it was after having played in the area of 10-15 songs when the problem seems to have solved itself.

I'll also add that I've since re-enabled the options I originally changed to "fix" my problem. I'm no longer getting the distortion, even with the options I changed.
I'm not sure what's going on.. I guess I'm just glad my music is back to normal and that I can browse the Internet AND listen to music!

  • Sound distortion of everything through headphones

I recently upgraded my 3GS to IOS 5.1, and now everything through headphones sounds really distorted, i've found loads of answers saying check your itunes files and such, but it's not just my music, I tried Youtube and games through my headphones, and they all sound the same, they're all really badly distorted.
Can anyone help with this? It's really irritating.

Do a reset (Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons about 10 secs or more till Apple logo appears)
Note: You will not lose any data
Is it the same without the headset?
Did you tried a different headset?

  • MuVo N200: Static/distorted so

Hey- I have had my MuVo micro N200 for few months now (and enjoying it!!!)...and like I have read about some others on this site, it appears the sound has become distorted. I tried different headphones then formatted but neither worked.
I read a number of messages that said to download the latest firmware. I am not very computer savy...should I download the .5 version, or the .2 (Audio) version, or BOTH?
Thanks! I REALLY miss my tunes

Try the .2.0 version first to see if that cures your problem as it is easier to install than .5.0 (you don't need recovery mode).
For a lot of problems it is that act of reloading the firmware and not which firmware you use that cures the problem.

  • Audio distortion when fully inserting headphones

    Evening Applers
I've noticed a small crack on the very top left of my 3GS around the metallic frame that has coincided with a problem with the audio when adding headphones.
I suppose I'm trying to diagnose whether the impact of this crack could have damaged in some way the audio jack to cause audio problems when fully inserting the headphones. If I insert the headphones 1/2 way the audio is as new, but obviously as they're not fully inserted makes it tricky to listen without having to support the jack to provide the connection.
I've tried fully inserting a similar jack linked to my stereo, however, and the audio is as new!?!? I've also tried the headphones out of another iPod to see whether that is causing a problem as well as attempting to clean the jack and blow any dust out but to no avail.
Does anyone recognise this problem, and can offer any tips or suggestions as to resolving this?
    Many thanks in advance
    Tim

    Many thanks for your reply,
I thought the same but would have thought the jack would then display similar problems when playing through another 3.5mm plug..it also turns out that the phone speaker itself doesn't work either unless the speakerphone is on. I'm beginning to think that something else is going on!!
I've no recollection of a bump, deep or crash of the severity that it would appear knock the whole audio aspect of an iPhone. I appreciate they are sensitive pieces of kit but this is a bit much..

  • Intermittant audio static/distortion when streaming video

New member seeking solution to an annoying problem. When
streaming video sites such as Youtube, MSN videos, and other video
sites, the audio has intermittent static, much like a radio station
that isn't fully tuned in. I have a laptop with an external sound
card, and it does it through it hooked to a small stereo system, as
well as the laptop's built-in soundcard and speakers. I have
updated the Flash player, and tried completely uninstalling and
reinstalling the sound drivers. Next thing, I am going to totally
uninstall Adobe Flash and try reinstalling it to see if it takes
care of the problem. By the way, it does it with both Internet
Exploder and Firefox. Any suggestions are welcome.

  • Static/distorted songs on itunes/iphone.

There are some albums in my library that are all distorted and others are grand, the same songs are affected on my phone. It makes no difference when earphones are plugged in, anyone else had this problem/fixed it?

I was having the same issue after updating to the latest OS on my 4s and iTunes to revision 11.something.  This is what I did to fix my problem, and the dang thing is synching (Tones, Music and Movies) as I'm writing this.
    1. Disconnect iPhone, reboot it and do not connect it back yet.
    2. Delete all Tones, Music and Movies libraries in iTunes (I have these saved on my local drive).
    3. Close iTunes and restart it.
    4. Add File to Library for Tones, Music and Movies (I have these saved on my local drive).
    5. Connect iPhone, Sync only Checked
    6. Apply

  • Static and Far Away from headphon

Hi, I have a Pentium 4, Windows XP Professional computer and have recently had to reformat and reinstall my system do to a crash. Before that, I had purchased Soundblaster 24-Bit Li've. My audio was working great, lovely sound and everything, but after the reinstall of the system I'm having problems.
I installed the software that came with the card, updated the drivers on the Creative website, made sure my onboard audio was off in bios - but all I get is this strange scratchy sounds and far off audio on just the left hand side of my headset. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I checked in my SYSTEM info in CONTROL PANEL and everything is installed correctly, no errors and all is enabled.
I tried adjusting the settings in the Creative Panel, made sure nothing was mute - and still nothing.
What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Kim

  • USB audio Interface distortion/static when sound is played.

My USB audio interface started sending out static/distortion to my speakers one day. It's more apparent when volume is very very low. To troubleshoot I switched to the other USB port and it worked fine for a month or so. Now the second USB port is creating static. I have reason to believe it's the computer not my interface as there was static on one usb port and none on the other. Now both ports create static. Is there something in my computer I can try reseting or should I look into getting a new interface?
Thank you in advance for any guidance with this.

    13" MacBook (Late 2008) 2.4Ghz w/ OS X 10.6.6

No noise problems when the interface is plugged into other systems.. Only on the G5...
And I tried plugging it into all the different USB ports on the G5, the one in front and the two in the back... All with the same result.
    Thank you for your reply.

  • Iphone gives headphones feedback static when both connected to PC

When my iphone finishes charging when connected to either of my Windows 7 PCs there is an awful feedback static  over the speakers or headphones. This happens whether the iphone is syncing or not to itunes, and even if the device has been ejected, but still left plugged into the PC. Why does this happen, but more importantly, how can I fix this?

    Hey Ashen vimarsha,
Thanks for the question. It does sound like your earphones may not be plugged in all the way. For best results, see these troubleshooting steps:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
    No sound through stereo headset
    1. Inspect the headset jack for debris and clean if necessary.
    2. Connect the headset and make sure the connector is pushed in all the way.
    3. Check the volume setting. Adjust the volume by pressing the volume up and down button on the left side of the iPhone.
    4. If you are trying to listen to music and cannot hear any audio, make sure that the music on iPhone is not paused. Try squeezing the headset microphone to resume playback. Additionally, from the Home screen you can choose iPod > Now Playing, then tap Play.
    5. Make sure the latest version of iTunes is installed on the computer that you are syncing the iPhone with (songs purchased from the iTunes Store using earlier versions of iTunes won't play).
    6. Try another Apple headset (some third-party headsets require an adapter to be used with original iPhone).
    7. Try a different song or video.
    8. Check to see if the iPhone alert sounds or other iPhone sound effects exhibit the same audio issues.
    9. Disconnect the headset from the iPhone and see if sound comes from the built-in speaker.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Hearing static from headphone jack

For the last several months, I have noticed an intermittant static sound whenever I have headphones plugged in. I do not hear it from the speakers themselves without headphones plugged, and I have tried different sets of headphones in addition to trying the ones I use regularly in a different computer. They all had the same sound and and none of them did in the other Mac, so I know the problem is not with them.
The sound isn't a pattern and it will change if I wiggle the plug a little bit. As I am having to use my headphone more often of late, the annoyance factor has increased by magnitudes. Is this something related to cleaning or some sort of de-magnitizing venture I could undertake myself or a more serious problem?

Hi Ragle & Welcome to Apple Discussions --
It's tough to say for sure what might be causing your intermittent static problem, but there's a chance is might be some dust or other micro-debris lodged inside the mini-jack where you plug your headphones. You might try a very small and judicious application of compressed air (using the thin (usually red) straw attachment) aimed directly into the min-jack outlet.
The watchwords here would be apply sparingly. I remember having a similar static problem on an old stereo receiver of mine with respect to the volume control and using compressed air did the trick for me. Of course, that receiver was a unit I had for something like 10 years (I think it took that long to accumulate so much dust); I doubt your PowerBook is anywhere near that old.
But if dust isn't the cause, then you might have some kind of short or loose connection in your mini-jack or its connections inside your computer. If this is the case, then I think you're only recourse may be to have it looked at by an Apple tech or an AASP.
One final word: you mentioned "some sort of de-magnitizing venture [you] could undertake" to try to fix the problem. I don't know what sort of venture you have in mind, but my advice is to forego taking any such excursion. It's been my experience that magnets, de-magnetizers and the like don't play well with computer hard drives and their relatives and if you try to force them together you might well end up causing an even greater problem than the one you currently have.
Good luck. Post back how it all turns out for you.
