Static Electricity feeling when touching Macbook Pro 13

Ive been experiencing a weird static electricity when I touch the laptop whilst its charging and im touching something else metallic connected to a power supply. if I slide my hand along the palm rest it feels like a vibration.

Been there.
Are you using a properly grounded outlet with all of your gear? If not, try that first.
If you are properly grounded, you may find that you have a problem at your physical location with respect to grounding/earthing/bonding and it should be checked out by a qualified electrician as it could be indicative of a dangerous situation.
In my house the problem was a poor earth-neutral bond, and once corrected by my electrician the shocks went away.

  • Static electric feeling near palm rests on MBP 13" early 2011

i just purchased a MBP 13" early 2011 less than a week ago. when i unplugged the magsafe power connector after full charged, i get this static electric feeling near the palm rest edges (both left and right wrist area). but when i plugged in the magsafe power connector (even though it full charged) I do not get this electro-feeling anymore. is it something wrong with my new MBP 13" ? Should I send in Apple Care Centre for another new set exchange?

I would take it to an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider  (AASP) for evaluation, or call your nearest Apple Contact Center. Visit the Genius Bar at the Apple Retail Store,  make a reservation.

How do I get audio from the TV when connecting MacBook Pro with all the correct cables?

    Hi Lynn,
If you're positive you have the correct cables, and positive they work, they must be plugged into an input on the TV made for that purpose, then that input must be selected on the TV's menu.

  • Electrical Tingling Sensation from MacBook Pro Case

I am starting this as a new discussion/thread as all others that are similar seem to be archived now.
We have just bought a superb, MacBook Pro 15" i7. Lovely it is. Works like a dream and much quicker than the MacBook it has replaced. Anyway, the problem...
When this MacBook Pro is connected to either our Samsung Syncmaster BX2431 or our Hitachi 1TB external and NOT getting power from mains then we get this mild, but weird and worrying, tingling sensation from the case. When the MacBook is receiving power from mains then its OK.
Will also add that if MBP is running on battery without these devices attached then its fine and dandy. As soon as one of these is connected then... zing... its not painful or anything, but prolonged use does make it uncomfortable.
The Samsung is connected to mains using a transformer to convert power from AC to DC, but the AC supply uses full 3-pin plug (no dummy earth pin), the external USB also uses a transformer but does have a dummy earth pin.
Monitor: if I connect a different VGA monitor -- that has AC power supplied directly -- then we don't get this tingling.
We purchased at Stormfront. We will take it in but, of course, they've never heard of it... and it does seem to be an old problem (2007, 2008).
    Are we alone? Any suggestions?

    Hi tjk.
Yes and no. Have tried both. Have tried in same four-gang extension, separate four-gang extensions... no surge protection... and into wall. Have only tried in this room though.
We only get this problem when MBP is NOT connected to main... i.e., when using battery. When we connect to power and charge battery then its all OK... as its earthed (we use the three-pin plug with mains cable, not the travel-adapter thing).

    Hi aaliyafrommarkham,
In order to troubleshoot this, I would recommend that you start with an SMC reset. Information on this procedure can be found here:

Press the Power button for about 10 seconds to shutdown the computer. Wait a couple of minutes then restart. If it restarts OK, then immediately repair the hard drive:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

For some reason, when my Macbook Pro starts up now, all of the MS Office applications open.  This was not happening when I first purchased the laptop, and I never added these apps to the startup menu.  How do I remove these apps from startup?

By default Mac apps do not close when you close the window you were working in. Unlike in Windows when you click the top right X icon in any program is closes the window and the program shuts down. On Mac OS X clicking the X in the top left hand corner only closes that windows and leave the program running in the background. If they are left open and you reboot they will restart with the system and load a window for them.

  • Any idea when the MacBook Pro will come with the new OSX Lion?

Does anyone have a clue as to when the MacBook Pro will come installed with the new OSX Lion?  In the market for a new Mac laptop but would prefer waiting for the Pro to come with the new system alreayd installed.

If you order on-line it will ship with Lion.
Local retail stores vary according to their inventory, more than likely the have Lion ready MBP.  Call and ask.

  • High CPU Usage when charging Macbook Pro 2011 13"

    Hey,
Over the last week or so I noticed that when my Macbook Pro (Late 2011 13") was switched on and charging the CPU usage shoots up to ~90% with the fan operating at roughly 6.2k RPM. I have had the laptop a year come the end of the month and mainly use it for word processing, coding and general web browsing.
I updated OS X to 10.8.3 this morning and the problem still exists. If I remove my charger the problem goes away.
I've tried resetting the SMC but I don't know if it worked.
Has anyone else had this issue and been able to rectify it?
There is no Apple store in my home town and I'm praying there is something I can do rather than drive 20 miles or so to the nearest store.
If it is of any benefit, it is the stock build in terms of RAM and HDD (haven't got round to ordering an SSD yet ).
    Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.3
    Boot ROM Version:          MBP81.0047.B27
    SMC Version (system):          1.68f99
    Thank you

    Hi Fernando,
I came across a Google search result which was from a forum belonging to a folding application I had previously installed, I cannot recall the name of it.
When I checked Activity Monitor application I could see that there was a process belonging to the folding@home application. Even though I had removed the application it still left a file behind which was continually being used (somehow).
Hope this helps. You may not have had this application in particular, but I guess there could be similar behaviours with other applications?
    Kind regards
    Jamie

When my MacBook pro late 2011 wakes from sleep i have it set to make me enter my password, but when that pace comes up the resolution of it is smaller than my screen. Why is this happening?

I was at the Apple Service. The problem was the 750Gb Toshiba HDD. It's incredible what noise can make that little thing
I didn't know the hdd position is on left on MBP 17" ,  I thought is the same position like MBP15"
I did't lose any kind of data.. it was fix on time.
    Anyway, thank u guys....and don't forget that noise !!!
P.S. I'll make a song with that noise sample to remember it

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Tingling Sensation when charging Macbook Pro 13 inch 2015 with Force Touch

Today, I just got my Macbook Pro 13 inch 2015 with Force Touch.
When I charge it, there is a VERY STRONG tingling sensation. Almost feel like a strong vibration. I believe this is what they call a "mild electric shock". After testing the new machine with different power outlets (both at my house and other people houses), with same result .... my fingers feel all numb.
I am going to Apple service next week with this.
    Anyone experiencing the same thing?

Usually that indicates a bad ground in the source system.  Perhaps a licensed electrician should be employed to check out the wiring.
    Ciao.

  • Static Sound When Connecting Macbook Pro to Thunderbolt Display

Every so often when I connect my late 2013 Retina 15-inch Macbook Pro to my Thunderbolt Display it will product static for about three seconds, it sounds like a wave since the volume increases and then decreases.  I've searched the forums and am just curious if this is a known issue.  It's very odd.

It sounds like you're already using the best way. The Thunderbolt port is also a Mini DisplayPort, so you're connecting it DisplayPort to DisplayPort. The reason that is the best way is most other cables, including HDMI in my experience, will not reach the 2560x1440 resolution. (HDMI will probably drive that monitor at 1080p, or only 1920x1080.)
If DVI were to be used, it would have to be the expensive Dual-Link DVI because regular old Single Link DVI isn't capable of 2560x1440. It's a good thing the MacBook has Mini DisplayPort on it instead of DVI (like the older Apple laptops did) because DisplayPort cables are far cheaper than Dual-Link DVI adapters.
You can't do better than the connection you're already using.
