Static from speaker on startup

I have an iBook that I recently replaced the hard drive in. Everything works fine now except I have static coming out of the speakers on startup, and anything that requires the speakers to activate, especially the right one. The sound is fine when using headphones. The one thing I have noticed is when the computer is idle and I plug in the power cord the static from the speakers starts up and the volume control does not have any effect. Before I take this apart to see if there is a ground or a wire out of place does anybody have any ideas?

Greetings
I ended up taking the iBook apart and discovered that while lowering the top case and connecting the three plug-ins the speaker wire moved slightly and the insulation on the wire got pinched and exposed the copper wire. This must have picked up static from the internals and caused the problem. I teased the two wires to the right speaker apart and wrapped them. I then put a small piece of Kapton tape to hold the wire in place when lowering the top case. Everything is now working great and my son is happy. Thanks for the ideas.

  • Static From Right Internal Speaker

I am hearing static from the right side internal speaker whenever I adjust the volume control up or down. It lasts for about 10 seconds then goes away. Muting or volume level has no affect on the volume of the static. It also occurs when I pull up the "sound" window in "system preference" and then goes away after about 10 seconds. When I plug in headphones, though, the static is muted and I don't hear any static in the headphones. One last peculiar thing is that when I have the charger plugged in, the static occurs all the time and never goes away except when the headphones are plugged in. BTW the Macbook is only two weeks old.

  • Inspire 6100 5.1 - static from the front middle satellite

Speakers are new. I've just bought them and brought home to set up.
Probably should have connected them and checked right away before setting everything up.
So I connect the speakers, switch them on and... I hear static from the middle speaker.
I checked if i haven't set the volume too high. Nope. Volume settings have no effect on the volume of the buzz. Then I connected the middle speaker to different slot. No humm. Connected other speaker to the middle speaker slot - it was humming too, disconnected the subwoofer from pc - middle speaker humming.
It's not that loud. If there's any noise or sound in the room it's almost unnoticable but in silence or when I move closer to the speaker it's annoying. I wuld expect something like this from some of these 'noname' speakers you get for free with PC sets but not from Creative product ;/
Can i fix it somehow? Is it something normal I have to learn to live with or should I make a complaint?

  • Static from iPad speakers

    Hi folks,
Any one hear crackling static from the speakers that are built into the iPad. I mostly hear it when I put the iPad into sleep mode.

You're not alone. My iPad only makes that noise when the iPad is on and there's some event that might use the speakers (like video or the keypad pops up). The speaker will seemingly turn off a few seconds after putting the iPad to sleep and the hiss will stop.
What's strange is that I never noticed it until today (which is what prompted me to search and find this thread). It's not as loud as the hiss from my TV, which is rather dated, so I'm not too concerned about the issue yet. I do find it curious though that my iPhone does not have the same behaviour.
Anyone else? This seems to be the only thread on this issue.

    Hi  PhiPsiVol354
corrupted CMOS occurs when there is strange problem happen to laptop
Not necessary that corrupted CMOS prevent laptop from booting , may laptop boot successfully but CMOS not recognize the component of your laptop like sound card or video card or any other part specification .
so you need to load default BIOS setting to CMOS , but it fails to load default BIOS because corrupted CMOS needs to be cleared first before loading default BIOS.
this work (clear CMOS) is done manually by connect jumbers together inside laptop motherbaord
    OR
By using software like HIREN BOOT CD ( this is famous Repair cd ).
    follow this steps:
1-  Search internet to find and download (HIREN BOOT CD) cd image. or ask any friend may he has that cd
       ( prefered to choice v.9.7 or v.10)
2- If you download (HIREN BOOT CD) from internet ,Burn that cd image to cd with low writing speed.
3-Insert that cd into cd driver ,at laptop startup press F12 to boot from cd .
    4-Menu appear , show:
       -boot from hard drive
       -boot from cd
       -load mini windows xp
select second option ( boot from cd)
5-another menu shows with numbers browse to find (BIOS/CMOS TOOLS)
enter that section you will find many tools select from them (KILLCMOS).
6-Run (KILLCMOS) tool , it will show confirmation message ( ARE YOU SURE WANT TO CLEAR CMOS),press arrow button to select (YES) , after clear cmos done , press ESC button to exit ,then press (ALT+CTRL+DEL) to reboot system , and  immediately enter to BIOS setting by press F2 .
7-Load default setting by press (F9) and save change and exit (F10).
8- the system restart and enter to windows .
9- If process failed to solve the problem , Repeat it again.
    Good luck
I hope this will solve your  problem.

Actually, I did notice the thread age. However, this phenomenon only appeared with mu phone in the last week.
You and I both would hope that it was corrected long ago, but that is evidently not the case.
I added information that will be useful for anyone else encountering my recent situation, now or perhaps in some distant future.
If you are aggravated by notices re: threads over two years old, perhaps you should disengage from the thread in lieu of making

How to keep finder in mountain lion from opening at startup.?

    Now you got me thinking....
One can set things up so Finder can be quit like any other application.  In Terminal:
    defaults write com.apple.finder QuitMenuItem 1
    Then relaunch the Finder.
I guess it might be possible to make a an Applescript or Automator application which runs at start up and quits the Finder.

  • Prevent internal drive from mounting at startup

How do I easily prevent an internal hard drive from mounting at startup?
The machine has two internal drives and I want the upper drive to not mount unless needed. Both are bootable but lower is chosen as the startup drive.
    Thanks for any help.
    G5 dual 2.5 ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Take it out and put it in a removable FW + SATA case.
There is little need or reason to have it not mount. If it is backup or emergency drive, external would be preferable... and put internal drive bay to some other use.

  • How do I stop iCal from autoloading on startup?

iCal used to autostart when I started up my computer.  Then I started keeping a flashdrive plugged in for convenience, but I had to remove it to prevent iPhoto from autoloading on startup of my iMacG5.  Neither application is autostarting at this time; I hope I have found a permanent solution.

to stop iPhoto from launching when a flash drive is plugged in go to the iPhoto preferences and set action when a camera is connected to do nothing
Your post is extremely unclear - do you want to stop iCal form loading - or do you want it to start again?

  • Re-apply the Mac OS X 10.4.9 combo updater from an alternate startup volume

Most instructions that I have read say:
" Re-apply the Mac OS X 10.4.9 combo updater from an alternate startup volume. "
( Yep, I got the security update blues: which makes me always wonder if Apple programers can program an updater they should also program an uninstaller. )
However I do not have a alternate startup volume and I do not want to do that firewire thing by using another Mac.
After I insert the CD that that has the 1049 combo updater in my iMac20 drive can I install the updater from my eDrive ( TTPro 4.5 ) ?

I do not have a alternate startup volume
Then, just reapply it on the hosed startup volume. I know nothing about eDrives, but just copy the COMBO updater from the CD to the IMac and run it from there.
Your reluctance to use external FWHDs for bootable backups/clones severely limits your ability to restore the OS back to its previous incarnation. See http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html and http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/installswupdates.html for developing a proper strategy.

  • Prevent drive from mounting at startup

There is an archived message on this same subject that never received a reply.
I perform my backups to a second internal drive and would like to prevent it from mounting at startup. Any ideas?
To clarify: I can come up with many ways to UNmount a drive when a user logs in however I'd like the drive to simply not mount at startup. Our machine runs unattended, without a user logged in, so allowing the "backup drive" to not mount would be safer and also conserve a bit of energy (as unmounted drives are allowed to spin down.)
    Qny and all help appreciated.
    G5 Dual 1.8   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If the drive gets its power from the computer to start up, you can't prevent it from mounting at startup. If the drive is under its own power, just leave its switch turned off until you are ready to mount it. Both Firewire and USB are hot connectable, meaning you can power it while it is already connected to the computer. SCSI on the other hand is not.
I have found this to be one weakness of the LaCie d2 case design is that it gets some power from the computer, and hence always mounts at startup if plugged in to the wall and connected to the computer.
Only cases that have a true on/off switch won't do that.
Backing up to internal drives is not wise. The whole point of having a backup drive is to have a drive that is able to recover information if the computer should permanently fail with the computer along with it, and also if the computer is stolen.
