Static in Audigy 2 when Multi-Tasking (MP3 examp

This is not cool at all. I just paid big money for this sound card, and it has a severe problem that none of my onboard sound chips have ever had.
Just got this Audigy 2 ZS card. Everything is great really. But when I run any kind of cpu intensi've app in the background while listening to music, I get severe static. Here is an mp3 recording of the static:
http://studentpages.scad.edu/~cblair2/steve/Audigy2ZSStaticProblem.mp3
You will notice the static goes away, halfway into the mp3. This is because I shut down the CPU intensi've application I was running. More then app causes this issue. I have also experienced the issue in Unreal Tournament 2004, so it is not an issue restricted to streaming music. EAX gaming is affected by it as well.
I'd like to note that it does this both with and without all the extra software installed, that came with the retail cd. Also I have updated my drivers using, both the EAX4.0 update, and the newest stable driver update, as instructed on the Creative site.
Here is my specs:
Antec Super Lanboy case
Thermaltake Silent PurePower TT-420AD (Dual Fan) ATX 420W PSU
Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 (Rev 2.x)
Athlon XP 3000+ 2.6GHz
Thermaltake Silent Boost CPU Cooler
MSI ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 28MB
Arctic Cooling AVC-000 VGA Silencer
GB of Corsair PC3200 running in Dual Channel

Also, I have tried most of the steps on the following page:

A few of them dont apply to me because my BIOS doesnt have those options.Message Edited by FunkyPoopMonkey on 08-05-2005 04:42 AM

I'd also like to note that in Winamp, the first 2 seconds of every song has static. This is most likely because Winamp is streaming to the pre-buffer during this time. I'm sure of this, because if I hit stop, and play to restart the track, it does not have static in the first 2 seconds, because it is still in the buffer from the first playback.
Here's my IRQ's:
http://img68.imageshack.us/img68/399/untitledcopy4ya.gif
Hope they are all ok. And is it really wise to disable ACPI and then reinstall Windows, like Creative says? Google seems to indicate that this is an important feature to have.
Update: I put my Audigy on the very bottom PCI slot, which was one step down. I also totally uninstalled it, as well as my entire nForce chipset drivers. Then I booted into safe mode, and used Driver Cleaner to totally remove whatever little leftovers remained from these 2 components. Then I did a fresh minimal install of my chipset drivers, and a fresh minimal driver-only install of the Audigy. I have NOT updated the drivers yet.
And guess what? No static so far. I'll really been attacking the CPU and HDDs with work, while playing music. Not a hiccup so far. The weird thing is, now my Audigy is SHARING an IRQ with my S-ATARAID Controller, and yet, no problems. On the other PCI slot, it had an IRQ all to itself. Very strange how this made things better...Message Edited by FunkyPoopMonkey on 08-05-2005 0:32 AM

  • Slideshow stops when multi-tasking - PC;Vista;LR3.4

I'd like the ability to play a Slideshow that doesn't stop when I try and multi-task on the PC.
For instance I like to have a slideshow running in one window and then use another window to select music or perform another task.  However, as soon as I click on the other window the LR slideshow stops.
    Bug or feature?
    Thxs
    Colin

You and me both. I rarely use Lr slideshow for this reason. I export after editing and use ACDSee for slideshows.
PS - Neither bug nor feature in my mind. It takes extra programming effort to maintain a full-screen slideshow when app loses focus. Adobe just didn't go the extra mile...

Thanks for your solution, it wasn't quite what solved the problem but i remembered that i had a bit of salt water on my phone recently and spraying the charging port with an anti-oxide spray solved my problem, do you mind if i ask, how is the charging port related with the volume or/and speakers?

I think with the many questions you have on the same issue, the Extensibility Documentation will help a lot.

  • Why is my iPhone 5(with iOS 8) soo slow when I double-tap for multi-task?

I have an iPhone 5 16GB, I bought it 2 years ago, and it worked perfectly. I used it with iOS 6 (the best),7 and now 8. Since the moment I upgraded to 8 (Nowadays I'm using it with iOS 8.1.1) the device starts to open the multi-task slowly, it takes about 3 seconds. I don't know what to do.
    Thanks for your attention.

  • Hp laserjet pro color mfp will not wake up when print tasks are initiated!

Is there anyone that can assist me with a HP LaserJet color printer mfp 200 that weill not "WAKEUP" when print tasks are sent to the spooler?

These settings are for setting up your wireless printer to stay connected to your router, keep wireless devices better connected and make your router secure and hack proof.
    1. Set a static IP in the printer (click here) outside the DHCP range of the router (check your manual).
This is for Linksys routers but can be used for all routers.  Verify your DHCP range and change this
first if needed.  More Wireless Printing help is here.
    2. Verify in the printer that 'Auto Off' is disabled.  Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) by going to the
printers IP address in your browsers address bar, click  Settings Tab/Auto Off.  Or use the Printer
        Assistant, Printer Home Page (EWS).
In the router:  (Refer to your router manual for information)
    3. Use a fixed wireless channel like 1, 6 or 11, never 'auto', try channel 1 first then the rest.
    4. Set router to 20Mhz only, or 145Mbps depending on router.
    5. Always use WPA2-AES (Personal) encryption, but you can try ‘mixed’ mode.
    6. Disable WPS and never use it and disable UPnP for the routers security.  Nobody can hack your
system now and helps with wireless connectivity (if you want to know why, search the web).
    7. If you have a dual band router (2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz bands), make sure the SSID’s are NOT the same,
they must be different for all bands, even for any Guest networks.
    8. Save all settings.  Power off both, wait 2 mins.  Power on router wait 2 mins.
    9. Power on printer and verify it reconnects to router.

  • What are your impressions of "multi-tasking"?

If you have iOS4 and a capable device, you should have multi-tasking and opened apps appearing in the task bar. Newer app versions are able to run in the background. In my opinion, when I close most apps (by pressing the home button), I want them to close completely, not run in the background. Aside from being a privacy issue, apps in the task bar may use battery power or if truly in a suspended mode, they still take up memory or process capability. In order to really shut them down, two additional home button clicks and then two more screen strokes are required. Not very efficient and probably leading to an earlier home button failure. Why not have some kind of screen command (tap or swipe combination?) to simultaneously shut down all apps in the task bar? The bar itself is useless if you have used many apps in the course of a day. To find what you're looking for, you have to scroll through a long parade of icons. It's a lot easier to just tap the icon where you know it is sitting in the nice folder you created. I don't get it. I realize the bar can be used for switching open apps, but this is really not that big of a deal for the vast majority of apps. Furthermore, there should be an option to enable or disable multi-tasking globally as well as for individual apps. Now that would be an improvement.
    What are your thoughts?

I havent done any kind of multitasking on my ipod touch, im waiting to upgrade my software to the newer one. However, I couldnt agree more with that of pressing the home button many times to perform basic function to switch apps or enable the multitasking ability. I think palm adapted a better design of software than apple ever did with their IOS 4. Palm's webOS can handle full multitasking--something the iPhone can't do. Palm uses what it calls "a deck of cards model" for managing multitasking: You can view each of your open applications at once, shuffle them any way you choose, and then discard the ones you want to close. All of this is done with intuitive gestures that mimic handling a physical deck of cards. Apps remains live, even when minimized into the card view, so changes can continue to happen in real-time, even if you've moved on to another activity.
I had the time to experience a bit of a palm web os software on an AT&T store and my impression on that software is done more elegantly than apple multitasking home pressing button system.
P.S to NYtroutbum: you should definitely present that idea to apple by its feedback product page. Let's hope it listens.

  • Multi-tasking not working

I just updated to the new iOS 4 and when I double click it does not bring up the multi-tasking menu, but rather goes to my phone favorites. I have went to my settings-homebutton -> but there is no option to switch it to "multi-tasking" is there something I am doing wrong?

    That's because you have a 3G and not a 3GS. The 3G doesn't support multi-tasking.
If you indeed have a 3GS then somehow you downloaded the wrong version of the firmware.

  • Do all apps have to be rewritten to 'multi-task'?

I only ask because some do multi-task and others don't.
Some like the updated Google app remain at the same place you were when reselected from the taskbar, but most don't, they just reload from scratch when selected in the taskbar.
For example, what would be useful is to be able to come out of a game (for example) to answer an email and be able to go back into the game and continue where you left off. At the moment that is not happening.

Thanks Malcolm. I guess the answer is yes to my question, so patience is required!
The only game of mine working (including a lot of the biggies like Doodlejump, Angry Birds, ParaPanic) is Harbour Master. All the others just restart.
Some apps work, e.g. Google, Facebook, but most don't, like Wikipedia.

  • Can't use airplay and multi task anymore.

First of all, I would like to say I love my Apple TV. The one thing I didn't love when I first got it was when I watched a video or YouTube video on my iPad 4 and used the airplay it would show up on the TV but I had to leave that screen open on the iPad and couldn't do anything else while it was on the tv. The same thing happened with my iPhone 5. Then one day it started working. I don't know if it was an update or what but I was then able to use airplay on either device to watch something on the TV from my iPad but able to multi task and get on Facebook or Safari or whatever. Then one sad day came along and it stopped working and worked like how when I first got it, which was a disappointment, especially after it working for so long. Is there anyone out there that knows how to fix this issue? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Ps - my Apple TV is up to date and I have already tried restarting it.

It is possible that Google broke background playback in the latest update. Unfortunately I cannot check this myself because my iPad is only running iOS 5, whereas the latest version of the YouTube app needed iOS 6.
Still, it could also just be a glitch. In which case restarting your device might resolve the issue.  (eg. press and hold power and home buttons until the Apple logo appears).

  • How do I see the multi-task menu bar?

I am trying to find a way to stop the app "Magellan Road Mate" when I am finished. Seems simple, however, there is no provision for turning the app off. Magellan says to go tap and hold the icon in the multi-task menu bar until a - sign appears then tap the minus sign and that will turn the app off. Being among the technically "near illiterate", I can't seem to find the "Multi-Task Menu Bar".
Can anyone help me out? Any direction will be appreciated. It is embarrasing to be walking through a lobby in a hotel and suddenly your hip speaks...."recalculating route..."

Get back to the Home screen, double tap the Home button and the icons along the bottom will turn into the multitasking bar. Tap and hold one of these till they wiggle with a minus button on them. You an scroll sideways to find the apps you wish to close. Press the Home button once to remove the button then once again to return to the Home screen.
If you have an Apps running when you double tap it will not appear in the multitask bar till you exit to the home screen or change apps.

  • Multi tasking during phone call????

Can one no longer multitask while making a phone call on the Z10? my old 9320 you could be on speaker phone talking at the same time typing a text to another contact.. I tried swiping up and minimizing the "phone" screen to get to BB hub but it hangs up the call and when you swipe up it swipes across the end call surface.....so my question is is what am i doing wrong or does the Z10 not allow multi tasking during an active call?

Must be my fat fingers then as I have tried numerous times and everytime it hi-lites the "end call" display and hangs up....but it nice to know it can be done.....the end call button is in a terrible place, even hung up a call by hitting it with my chin.
    But Thanks for the reply

  • So multi tasking..phone and messages showing up in multitask bar

So this sounds silly.. i m kinda confused on how the multi tasking works..right now i am have only 2 apps running in the background phone and messages..does that drain my battery by running or r those frozen..and i feel like the multitask bar is in some cases a shortcut..so what happens if i donr close the phone and messages in the bar when i go to sleep any battery drain?

So this sounds silly.. i m kinda confused on how the multi tasking works..right now i am have only 2 apps running in the background phone and messages.
Think of it as a "Recently Used Apps" bar, instead of a "Multi-task" bar.

If you aren't on a phone call, those apps aren't using any power, so shouldn't affect battery time. There is no need to shut them down.
