Static on burned cd's

Here's an odd one. I download a talk show that typically has its programs divided into separate mp3's for each hour. The first hour on the disk is always fine but during the second static occurs. I've tried this on several different shows. It always happens during the second hour. My self-burned music cd's seem to be fine. Static is only on the talk files. Anyone heard of this? Thanks.

Slowing down the burn speed fixed it.

  • Static after burning a CD

Lately, I have been having a problem with my iTunes program.
I will burn a CD, it will pop out and when I put it into my car stereo (or DVD player) there will be static on it. Also some parts of songs have been like, cut out. More recently, I havn't been able to play my CDs in my PS2 (which I could do before).
My main complaint though is the static. It just sounds bad. I have tried burning the same thing with different CDs, changing CD brands ect but NOTHING works.
    Any ideas???
    PowerBook G4 12"   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I have this problem too, it's quite recent. I find CDs are okay unless they're over about 50 minutes, after which tracks just sound horrible. I always use Sony 80 minute CD-Rs, always have, and have never had any problems before.

I am having the same problem...have you been able to
    fix it?
Not really....I ended up buying a new Sony burner which solved one problem but the higher number tracks have static in the playback....frustrating....but no help from anyone at Apple if that is what you are wondering. Thanks for the reply.

  • Static on burned music CD

I have tried repeatedly since purchasing the new CoreDuo to burn a CD. While the CD burns, all that plays back is static.
    Thanks

Just in case this hasn't yet come across entirely clearly, if the downloaded tracks are from the iTMS, you can only burn them onto audio CD with iTunes--no other software will decrypt Apple's DRM. In the past, for a very short time, Toast was able to burn audio CDs from iTMS purchases, and when this functionality suddenly vanished due to an iTunes/QuickTime update, a huge number of users reported problems like yours--CDs being burned but playing back only silence or static.
If you continue to experience problems, please provide some additional details, such as which software you're using (even if it's iTunes), the kind of computer and/or optical drive you have, whether the "downloaded" music is DRM-protected, etc.

  • How can I prevent the S5's screen from coming on when charging completes?

I got my S5 today and it seems to have a "feature" that will be very damaging to the OLED display.  When it's done charging, the screen comes on and stays on.  I've been going through all the settings I can find and don't see anything that will prevent this.  Since static images burn into OLED screens, this is the last thing I want.  It's done the same thing several times.  My old phone (Galaxy Nexus) didn't do this.  When the Nexus finished charging, it did so with no fanfare.  The screen stayed off.
When the S5 is locked and the screen is off, there's no reason for the screen to come on for anything short of a phone call.  It certainly shouldn't come on and stay on just because the battery finished charging.  And, any time the display does come on without user input, it should turn off again automatically if it's idle for the length of the screen timeout.
I've got "Smart stay" turned off and "Screen timeout" set to 1 minute but, after it self-activates, it stays on indefinitely.  I've let it go for 20 minutes and the screen is still on.  How can I fix this?  If I can't get this behavior to stop, it's going back to the store.  I'm not paying $600 plus tax to have my lock screen burned onto my phone because I charge it at night.

Okay I've tried safe mode.  Let it run down to 98%, plugged it in, locked the screen, and waited.  A few minutes later, the screen came on showing the 100% icon at the top right, full battery icon just to the left of the time, 100% text to the left of that.
I'm not going to do a hard reset until I have confirmation that this is not normal behavior for the phone because that's going to take hours of my time and gigabytes of data transfer to get all of my media and apps back on the phone and configured.
After all my griping, I do have to give credit where it's due.  This phone is much more efficient than my Galaxy Nexus.  I left the S5 running in WiFi hotspot mode while on battery last night.  It still had over 50% left on the battery.  The Galaxy Nexus would be stone dead after about 4 hours.  I can live with that if I have to but I'd really rather be able to leave it on the charger at night.

  • 160GB Classic 50+ hours of playback

I'm not sure what other people have been getting for music playback times on a single charge, but I wanted to burn-in a new pair of headphones, so I hooked them up to my 160GB Classic, selected a playlist and then just let the iPod run at approximately 65% volume level until the battery gave out. Then I charged the iPod and repeated the process. Both times I got over 50 hours of continuous playback. Granted I wasn't using the menus and the screen for the most part was on the screen saving time/battery display mode, but its nice to see that it got well over the estimated 40 hours of playback.

This is taken from a FAQ covering headphone burn-in...
    "What is ‘burn in’?
When speaking of headphones, ‘burn in’ is the term used for the settling of the design parameters of the diaphragms into their intended state. The physical process is that the diaphragms loosen up through use and eventually reach a point that could be considered final. A similar situation is breaking in a new pair of shoes.
Why do people choose to burn in a new pair of headphones shortly after getting them?
Fresh out of the box, a pair of headphones may not sound as good as a well used pair, as the designers have intended. Often, people want their headphones to sound the way that they are intended as soon as possible. Most people don’t want to wait for weeks or months of regular use, so the choice is to expedite burn in by getting the process over with in the first week of ownership. Others choose to listen to their headphones as they change over the burn in period.
How do I burn in my new pair of headphones?
You can simply play music through them continuously. Some prefer using pure tones, sine wave sweeps, pink noise, or AM/FM static for burn in. Some recommend using bass heavy music. The method of burning in a headphone does not change depending on model or manufacturer."

  • What do I do if my ipod classic has lines at the top righthand corner of the screen that won't go away?

I am not sure when this issue started, but my iPod Classic has lines at the top righthand corner of the screen.  They show up on every screen now.  The iPod is working, but I don't know if this is a sign of bad things to come.  I have dropped the iPod a few times, but not regularly.  I also wasn't sure if this means that it is time to update my iTunes software.  I am going to try updating the software tonight to see if that fixes the problem.  I have tried resetting the iPod, but it doesn't make the lines go away.  I am just curious to see if anyone else has had this issue.  I have attached pictures because it is probably hard to diagnose my issue without seeing it.

It is not a software issue, since you have reset it and update the firmware.
LCD screen do konk out due to high temperature, or when the pixels are static and burn the screen, like the 2 lines, that's the reason we have screen savers or the screen power down, when not in used. Some users do have screen ON all the time when connecting to iPod Docking stations.
Other defects are due to poor SMT, when the display chip is mounted on the iPod motherboard., normally a band of vertical or horizontal white lines across the screen, these appear within 1 year, and Apple do replace the whole iPod.
You can get LCD screen replaced at Apple, if it is still under warranty or get a 3rd party vendor near your area if you want it done cheaper.
    Have a nice day.

  • Ken Burns effect causing photos to show static

As the subject line suggests I am getting a sizzle effect, like sparkling pixel static across my photos when the Ken Burns zoom is in progress. It is uniform across the entirety of the photo. THis is in imovie hd 6.0.4 on my new imac 21.5 with system 10.6.4 These are photos taken with 12mp dsl camera and I notice some other older photos taken with 4mp camera point and shoot do not show this distraction. Something up with the rendering of high res stills ? THis does not happen in Ilife 09's imovie.
Thanks for shedding any light on this anyone.

I had the same problem with iMovie 9. I found a solution that worked for me at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12544852&#12544852

  • Burned CDs come out with static, and stop/skip.  Why?

The CDs I've tried to burn come out with fuzzy static and pause momentarily at times. I have tried altering the writing speed (I've tried 1X, 4X, and "maximum possible") and playing the discs in the car, cd player, and computer (all produce the same result). I can hear the music, but with the fuzz and momentary pauses it's annoying to listen to. Also, the burned CDs play at a much softer volume level than, say, the radio in my car--so much so that I deafen myself whenever I change out the CDs and the radio kicks in.
What's going wrong? Is this an iTunes problem I can fix? The burner is new from Dell a year ago and never been used, so I don't think it's that. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
    Dell Latitude C840 (PP01X)   Windows 2000

Try going to dell.com and download all updates for your system on there site, especailly firmware updates for the CD ROM and BIOs updates and chipset updates for the PC system.
If that doesn't fix it, goto edit>preferences>advanced tab>burn sub tab and UNCHECK "Sound Check" so they play louder
If needed we can check and see if the drive is in PIO mode instead of DMA. Does the PC lock up or get really slow when burning CDs?

  • Get static sounds on CD after burning CD of iTunes purchased music

I am able to burn CDs (finally...) after lots of trouble with burns. BUT, now the CDs have the music very faint in the background with lots of static sounds over top. Obviously, it is not "listenable".

  • Video is static and jumpy after burning disc

I digitized some old home movies in Final Cut Pro and exported them as MP2s into DVD Studio Pro, formatted the disc and burned it and the video is static and jumpy when there is a camera pan or other movement across the screen. The picture if fine when there is little movement in the frame.
The video plays fine in the viewers of both Final Cut and DVD Studio. Any suggestions?

    Hi
Please post some info about your original movie format (DV, ??) and what settings did you use to encode it to MPEG2. Besides that, you would try encoding your audio to Dolby 2 (AC3) it you didn't yet. Using AIFF uncompressed audio can cause playbak problems.
Chesck this thread about * Good Authoring/Burning Practices *.
    Hope that helps !

  • Ken Burns rendering corrupted/static images

I seem to be having an issue with imovie 6.0.1 , where when I add a new photo to my movie (either from the media/photos/iphotos options, or from dragging and dropping from a seperate folder), the resulting 4 sec rendered clip comes out corrupted, with grey static lines across (i can't see the picture at all). Looks sort of like static on a tv.
I'm using standard sized JPEG files 2032 * 1524 from a Kodak camera. Although, I have noticed similar problems from diffrent sources.
I've tried using diffrent imovie settings, mpeg4, dv, etc.
The problem seems kind of random where the clip might get rendered correctly one time, then the next it wont. Sometimes, the rendered clip comes out tinted red. The tintind red seems to be specific to another source : one scanner that I used.
    I didn't have this problem with imovie 5 , before I upgraded.
Even upon exporting the movie to say a quicktime clip, the problem stays is persistent in the final clip.
At first glance (and Im still testing this), the images get correctly rendered when I export the images from iphoto to a seperate folder at a different resolution and then add the photos from there. This is kind of tedious, because I routinely edit photos in iphoto, and I don't want to be exporting them every few minutes. Nor do I want to export my entire iphoto library.
Perhaps Ken Burns has a issue with certain Jpeg formats?
    Any possible solutions?
    Thanks,
    Vic
1.42 Ghz PowerPc Ibook   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Thanks for the help,
I tried exporting to the same resolution, but that didn't fix the problem.
Doing any sort of editing on the picture (say croping it), does appear to fix the problem.
I've tried using other photo sources (digitial cameras), and it seems to me that photos taken with some digital cameras don't get this problem where as photos from other cameras sometimes do.
It seems that the Ken Burns renderer doesn't like JPEG's coming from certain cameras, as soon as these JPEG's are resaved by a diffrent program (say iphoto) the problem is fixed.
Atleast thats what I think the problem is, Im not 100% sure because this corruption problem doesn't always occur, its seems sort of random.
Also the problem appears diffrent then the problem mentioned with imovie 4. For one thing the static lines are horizontol vs. vertical, and the mentioned work around doesn't fix the problem.

  • Audio CD Burn Turns Into Static After Beginning of CD

I'm noticing that after I burn an audio CD from my MacBook and then take it to my car's CD player (or any other non-computer audio CD player), I hear progressive static as the disc moves down the playlist. By the end (if I make it there), it's almost all static overtaking the music. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, how did you fix it?

hello folks! I have the same problem. At about half to three quarters through a cd, while playing in the car stereo, I will get a crackling static that basially makes the cd unplayable from that point on.
Shall we try to debug this?
    1) Are we all burning in iTunes? I am.
    2) What setting do you have for burning speed? Mine is set at maximum speed.
    3) What kind of media are you finding this with? For daily burning use, I use TDK CD-R 52x 80min/700mb.
So the first thing I'm trying is to lower the burning speed.
I'm assuming that since it shows 24x as the highest speed, that it is the highest speed the drive can use. I'm trying 12x first to see if that has any effect.
Let's also make sure we are using an internal MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857E drive.

  • CDs all burn with static-scratchy noise

    Hi all,
All my CDs I am burning out of iTunes have horrible static and scratchy sound on them. I have changed CDs to no avail. Anyone else have this issue? Oh, it's a clean burner also.

It looks like you're an iTunes for Windows user, but your post has been placed here in the iTunes for Mac forum.
Be that as it may, I might still suggest that, unless you're burning music you've purchased from the iTunes Music Store, you use software such as Nero to burn audio CDs.

  • Error while Trying to Burn a CD

PLEASE HELP!! I have been trying to burn CD's from iTunes and it burns half of the songs, gives me an 4251 unknown error code, and aborts the burn. I have followed all of the suggestions on the help page (updating drivers, turning off the screensaver, running a CD diagnostics test, etc)and it still does not work. On the first CD, the songs that were burned worked, but it left off the last 3 songs. The second CD I tried to burn only worked for the first 5 of 14 songs and when I played the CD, it was full of static. I ran a diagnostic test. I would appreciate anyone's help. This is all so frustrating. My iPod Shuffle no longer will hold a charge and I am trying to get all of my songs on a CD. My concern is that I bought most of the songs from iTunes and there is a limit of 7 burns per song. I am not sure if they are counting these "attempts" as burns.?.?.
