Static or Dynamic IP Address

My remote users are using DSL to get out to the internet.  However, all computers are setup with the private IP address.  Is there a way to find out if the public IP address is static or dynamic?
Thanks.
Diane

It would help to know how your users PCs are connected. Are they connected to some router which is connected to the DSL? Or are the PCs connected directly to the DSL?
Most consumer oriented DSL uses dynamic addresses but there are business oriented DSL which use static addresses. It will take more investigation (and more knowledge of your environment) to figure out whether the DSL addressing is static or dynamic.

  • How to determine ip address as static or dynamic

    hi, im trying to figure out ways of testing incoming ip connections to my mail server as dynamic or static, would a simple get canonical name tell me this?
    any adivce would be greatly appreciated

    Whether an IP is static or dynamic, it is just a decision of the IP administrator / owner. There is no technological measure in finding out such a human decision.

  • How to deal with dynamic IP address changes

    I have installed Fodero C3 and Oracle 10g successfully. Oracle 10g use web OEM console to manage database. However, my internet provider only provided me a dynamic IP address. When I installed Fedora C3, Linux server automatically picked a Hostname like " ip12-345-678-90.dc.dc.cox.net". After I created database, all database files also used this hostname. Then Oracle web OEM console worked fine. Due to the dynamic IP address assigned by ISP, their DHCP server changed the first part of IP address(ip12-345-678-90)frequently to another one. After IP address changed, I couldn't start up web OEM console and listener because they couldn't find correct hostname (IP address). I have talked to my ISP. It seems that it can not be solved. Anyone knows how to deal with this problem through 10g and OEM console themseleves. I also think about to configure Linux server to solve the problem. I really need your help. Thanks in advance

    Thank all of you so much to respond my questions. I think I have solved the problem. Since the key point was that Oracle 10g OEM console could not work with the frequent changes of IP address made by my ISP. I just bought a 54G wireless router. Then connecting router to cable modem. The cable modem still gets the dynamic IP from ISP, but the router automatically assigned a static IP address to my Linux system with the range from 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255. This IP was control by my router. It is nothing to do with ISP. So I re-created Oracle database with this new static IP. Then OEM console and listener can startup and connect to database without problem. I do think other guru's methods also will work. I just have no time to try them one by one. Thanks again. Your inputs make me learn many things.

  • Optional DC based on dynamic IP address

    Hi folks,
    my question is really simple and the answer might be obvious to you but since I'm not and expert in Windows (and I'm asked to back my answer with examples) I would like to check it with you.
    I have only found this thread similar in topic where the guy is putting a second DC with dynamic IP  and nobody warns him from doing it, actually give him help.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/5f0398de-d0cd-4a57-bc8b-a483a91ebd80/how-to-add-additional-domain-controller-to-a-primary-domain-controller-having-a-dynamic-ip-address?forum=winservermanager
    As to my case, we have two DCs (on the same LAN) and recently a third one was added for redundancy reasons, reachable through VPN (setup by other devices).
    I always apply the general rule SERVER => static IP address and this situation falls within it imo.
    I should give management the answer on whether this is recommended/discouraged bringing examples of any hindrances/problems that in your opinion this could cause.
    Thanks in advance, Alex

    Hi Muhammad,
    I totally back your point of view. Such request comes from management and they would like me to explain why such a server canNOT have a dynamic IP address. In particular would be great to know which other problems (beyond dns cache is a good one) we may
    hit, I mean they propose to rely on another DHCP server where the MAC address can be tied to a specific MAC address.
    I guess that such implementation is seldom done and hence we don't have case studies where they proved that using dynamic IP addresses is not recommended or bad.
    Thanks again, Alex

  • Static or Dynamic

    I have residential Verizon Fios. What type of IP address do I have? Static or Dynamic?  According to IP lookup I have a Static IP. This has just happened over the last day or so.  While logged into my Actiontec router I noticed three Connections, 192.168.1.1 router, 192.168.1.2 This one is a REMOTE Connection, 192.168.1.6 is my PC. I think I'm having problems with someone hacking my  account.  Any thoughts would be helpful.

    There is the public IP and the Internal IP Addresses.
    For the public IP, unless you are on Business grade - then you are using Pure DHCP OR PPPoE DHCP.
    For the Internal IP Addresses, they can either be DHCP (Dynamic) or Static.
    If you have a Static Internal IP Address as shown in the router's screen, then that internal IP Address is used for some sort of server. This can be a print server or a web server.
    Someone might be trying to a run a server behind your router and allow users from the Internet to connect to that server (called portforwarding).
    If you are the original poster (OP) and your issue is solved, please remember to click the "Solution?" button so that others can more easily find it. If anyone has been helpful to you, please show your appreciation by clicking the "Kudos" button.

  • [SOLVED] Question about network setup static and dynamic

    I am trying to set up an Arch install on my other pc.  I have used Ubuntu and then Linux Mint for a year+ and Arch has always intrigued me so I am attempting to install it now.  I do consider myself a pretty advanced computer user/programmer but computer networking has always confused me a little.  I'm not quite understanding whether I setup my network with a static or dynamic ip.  This is what I know
    I have a static ip assigned to me by my ISP but I do have a router so it assigns me a different internal ip.  Does that make my ip dynamic?
    Last edited by c26zwj (2013-03-14 18:24:35)

    If your ISP assigns a static IP then your IP in the internet is static. If you have a different internal IP then your router is running a DHCP server and performing network address translation. Your IP on the LAN is dynamic (unless you configure your router to assign static IPs, which can be useful if you want to forward ports to a specific computer). You most likely want to use DHCP to obtain a dynamic internal IP when you connect. The external IP is beyond your control (it is managed by the ISP and assigned to the router) so you do not need to worry about it.

  • How to set up both static and DHCP assigned addresses on an AirPort Extreme

    I recently bought an AirPort Extreme to replace my failed Cisco/Linksys router.
    I am having trouble figuring out how I can configure the Extreme to support the already static IP addresses on my network as well as assign IP addresses via DHCP to a few devices where static IPs are not supported, i.e., work laptop.
    Additionally, when DHCP is turned on, are my only options the 10.0, 172.16, and 192.168? What if I am running something like 10.10 or 172.30?
    I am far from green when setting up computer networks, but this AirPort Extreme is making me pull my hair out.
    BTW, I have access to a number of computers running a number of OSes including Windows XP, 7, and 8, as well as Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion.
    The Mountain Lion or Windows 7 machine would be the preferred ones to configure the Extreme. I already have the AirPort Utility software running on them.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    I have found the 'DHCP Reservations' option on the AirPort Extreme to be buggy.  I seem to remember it causing IP conflicts for some reason.  I think what I remember is that if the computer with the reservation was off, and the DHCP server then handed out that IP to another DHCP client, then there would be a conflict when the reserved IP computer was turned back on.  Maybe it was an issue in ealier versions of the AE or OS X as the case may be, and maybe it's been corrected, but I've never bothered using it agian since the method I describe below has always worked without fail.  Also, I'm guessing DHCP Reservations would work fine if one manually enters IPs outside of the DHCP range but in the AE 'DHCP Reservation Setup Assistant' the IP options provided are within the DHCP range which to me makes no sense and increases the potential for IP conflicts.
    Here's what I do to setup a mixed environment of static and dynamic IPs on my network.  It works like a charm and does not require the DHCP server (beyond the distribution of dynamic IPs to hosts using DHCP).
    For machines on my network that are accepting services from the public network, I set them up with static IPs using the 'Manually' option (System Preferences/Network/Ethernet/Configure IPv4).  The settings for 'Router' IP address and 'DNS Server' IP address should both be set with your gateway/router LAN IP).  Use an IP address below or above the DHCP range of adresses (in AE/Internet/DHCP/DHCP Beginning & Ending Address).
    i.e. if my subnet is 10.0.1.1 and my DHCP range is 10.0.1.100 to 10.0.1.150, you could set the static IPs on your local hosts as 10.0.1.x where x = any number from 2 - 99 or from 151 - 200 as an example.
    All other machines and devices that do not require static routing are setup as DHCP clients and get a dynamic IP from the AE.  To me it's a simpler setup though it might take a little extra time to setup initially.

  • Credit Management: Difference Between Static and Dynamic Credit Check

    Hi,
    Could anyone tell the difference Between Static and Dynamic Credit Check?
    According to website: http://www.sap-basis-abap.com/sd/difference-between-static-and-dynamic-credit-check.htm ... this is the answer:
    ====================
    Simple Credit Check : Tr.Code - FD32
    It Considers the Doc.Value + Open Items.
    Doc.Value : Sales Order Has been saved but not delivered
    Open Item : Sales Order has been saved , Delivered, Billed & Transfered to FI, but not received the payment from the customer.
    Static Credit Check it checks all these doc value & check with the credit limit
    1) Open Doc.Value / Sales Order Value : Which is save but not delievered
    2) Open Delivery Doc.Value : Which is delivered but not billed
    3) Open Billing Doc.Value : Which is billed but not posted to FI
    4) Open Item : Which is transfered to FI but not received from the customer.
    Dynamic Credit Check         1) Open Doc
                                                2) Open Delivery
                                                3) Open Billing
                                                4) Open Items
                                                5) Horizon Period = Eg.3Months
    Here the System will not consider the above 1, 2, 3 & 4 values for the lost 3 months.
    ====================
    Question 1: Could you further explain the above information, if there is any?
    Question 2:: What is the Tcode to customize settings of:
    a) Simple Credit Check (isn't this same with b) below?)
    b) Static Credit Check
    c) Dynamic Credit Check

    Hi Tanish,
    Diff between Static and Dynamic Filters.
    Example One at report Level.
    Create a variable for a Infoobject say ,Material .
    1)In the Query Designer and if u restrict it to some 10 materials at query level, the report will display for only those 10 materials only.This is Static Filter.UR AHrdcoding it to those materials.You cant change them at Query Run time.i.e not changeable by user.
    2)If u give the variable as input ,and when u run the query ,u can can choose the material,may 10 may be 1 or may 20 .It is dynamic.Changeable by user at run time
    Example Two at DTP and Start Routine Level,say Document Type.
    1)If u give filters in Start routine it is Static as u cannot change it in Production,not changeable by user.
    2)f u give filters in DTP it is Dyanamic as u can change it in Production.U can give any doc type,Changeable by user at run time.
    Hope it is Understood.

  • Perform static and dynamic check together on a customer?

    Hello All,
    Is it possible to perform static and dynamic check together on a customer?
    I believe standard SAP does not allow both options together.
    The scenario is: My client has customer who orders products 1 year in advance and create sales order with a future delivery date. The customer might have balance due on their account which is close to the credit limit. As a result the sale order should be blocked as if the automatic credit check is "Static". This would allow our customer service to call the customer and arrange for the payments.
    Then 11 months later, a dynamic check should be performed on the customer to make sure the past due is under the credit limit. If the past due is over credit limit, the sales order must be blocked for delivery as if the credit check was "Dynamic" with 30 days horizon. This would again give our customer service time to settle the payment with the customer.
    If anyone has implemented such a scenario, can you please give me an overview of how you did it?
    Thanks very much in advance and Text Removed.
    With Regards,
    AM

    Please dont include this text

    Static and Dynamic Cannot be Performed together. They are mutually exclusive events.
    Credit check can be performed either at Sale order level or at Delivery / PGI Level.
    FCV3 is a good report to see whether a customer would fail a credit check. ( suitable for your customer service )
    Coming to your Point , Assuming that the customer is eligible for a Credit of 50 Lacs. Now the Customer has placed an order for 60 Lacs. We set the Customer credit checking at  order level . The Customers Sale order would get blocked.
    The Customer service  will follow up for the payment and see to it that it is made. Assume the customer has made a payment for 70 Lacs.
    Now let us have a look at the account statement of the customer.
    Account Statement :     Customer Cr :  70 Lacs.   Dr   :  0.  ( because no delivery and invoice  so far has been made )
    So we are supposed to deliver the Material worth value of 60 Lacs.
    The First sale order worth 60 Lacs has been unblocked in VKM3. Now at the time of Delivery level why would you want to chekc the Credit limit again ? It has already passed the credit check.
    It is not necessary to check credit limit . Because you have already performed the same at the order level.
    Now the customer has come again and raised another sale order for 80 Lacs. The System would block him.
    The system will never block the Previous delivery which you are, due for delivery  to the customer.
    If we keep on checking the Credits without delivering we would end up only raising in Sale orders and no Delivery to the Customer  at all. The Debit side of his account will always be 0.
    So i donot think Static and dynamic is needed . you can go for either Static or Dynamic.

  • Mixing static and dynamic content in a single outputText value causes NPEs

    Hi,
    I am having a problem and I'm wondering if it is a result of my error or if this is a bug.

    <h:outputText escape="false"
              value='<link href="#{myBean.styleSheet}" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"  />' />If I replace this with a much more convoluted set of tags, it works:
    <h:outputText escape="false"
              value='<link href="' /><h:outputText escape="false" value="#{myBean.styleSheet}"
              /><h:outputText escape="false" value='" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />' />So is the problem that I am mixing dynamic and static content with a single value? If so, why does it work on the first view, and not after?
    If it matters, I'm using the reference implementation version 1.1 (as included with NetBeans 5.5RC2) on SuSE 10.0 w/ JDK 1.5_09.
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Yes, that's how I originally had it, but then changed it to the outputText approach since a single tag could do what I wanted, as long as I was allowed to mix static and dynamic content within a single value.
    I think this is a bug in JSF 1.1, since if what I am doing is illegal, it should throw an exception on the first page view, not work on first view and throw an exception on subsequent views. I'm guessing that this has something to do with the fact that on first page view it only runs the restore view and render response JSF phases, while on subsequent requests all of the phases will be run, and it's in one of those other phases that the exception is thrown.
    For now, multiple tags is the work-around, I guess.

  • How to set "Cc" field in Dynamic Email address in Receiver Mail adapter

    I have done the configuration for setting up the dynamic email address using the XSD provided by SAP in note no 748024. It is working fine.
    Michal's blog “Mail Adapter (XI) - how to implement dynamic mail address.” was a gr8 help in doing this.
    But there is no clue of setting up of "CC" in email.
    There should be "CC" in email is our bussiness requirement.
    Would appreciate your helps.

    Hi,
    If you do not need mail package for other reasons, I suppose it is enough to provide a value in Dynamic Configuration for fields "THeaderTO" and "THeaderCC" and the select "Use Adapter-Specific Message Attributes" and "Variable Transport Binding" in receiver Mail Adapter.
    see <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/6b/4493404f673028e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm">SAP help</a> for more details.

    HI,
    See fragment from help,
    Specifications for mail attributes:
    &#9675;       Under From, specify the e-mail address from which the message is sent.
    &#9675;       Under To, specify the e-mail address that will receive the message. If you enter more than one address, you must separate them with a semicolon.
    If you have specified an IMAP server under URL, the message is saved in the specified folder but is not sent to the receiver specified under To.
    &#9675;       Under Cc, specify the other e-mail addresses to which the e-mail is to be sent.
    These addresses are visible to the receiver.
    &#9675;       Under Bcc, specify the other e-mail addresses to which the e-mail is to be sent.
    These addresses are not visible to the receiver.
    &#9675;       Enter the Subject of the e-mail message.
    &#9675;       Specify whether you want to encode the content of the e-mail message. You have the following options:
    &#9632;       None
    &#9632;       Base64 (default value)
    &#9632;       quoted-printable
    Hope this helps.

  • Configuring Receiver mail adapter with dynamic email addresses

    Hi,
    I'm a newbie to XI and I have problems in configuring the Receiver mail adapter with the "Use Mail package" option selected. I am trying pickup a file (using file adapter on Sender side, picks up a simple XML file) and after mapping in XI, send the message as an email message to dynamic email addresses.
    Everything works fine if I did not select the "Use Mail Package". But when I choose that option it errors out. I followed this blog posted on SDN -
    /people/michal.krawczyk2/blog/2005/03/07/mail-adapter-xi--how-to-implement-dynamic-mail-address
    The following XML message is my source
    <ns0:Messages xmlns:ns0="http://sap.com/xi/XI/Somenamespace">
       <ns0:Message1>
          <ns1:studentlisttest xmlns:ns1="urn:karthiksender_to_karthikreceiver">
             <Student>
                <studentid>1</studentid>
                <lastname>Studentlastname</lastname>
                <firstname>Studentfirstname</firstname>
             </Student>
             <Mail>
                <From>[email protected]</From>
                <To>[email protected]</To>
                <Subject>Test mail adapter</Subject>
             </Mail>
          </ns1:studentlisttest>
       </ns0:Message1>
    </ns0:Messages>
    What I want to accomplish is, I have a simple message mapping where the Studentdetails are mapped to, lets say Customer details. For convenience lets keep it simple, StudentId --> Customerid, (student)Firstname --> (customer)Firstname, (Student)Lastname --> (customer)Lastname
    I would like to get the Customer details as an XML attachment or in the body of an email with from, to and subject corresponding to that specified in the <Mail> node.
    I followed the instructions posted on the blog and it works fine if I don't map the studentdetails to customerdetails. I did multimapping, with one source message (the xml file I posted above) and two target messages (customerdetails and Mail, which is the external definition posted on the blog). I beleive I'm missing something here. Could somebody please guide me through this?
    Thanks
    Karthik

    hi,
    I still have not found the solution for this problem. Michal, your blog works fine when my source message has got only the mail details. As per your advice, I tried modified the structure of the xsd file as follows
    <xs:schema targetNamespace="http://sap.com/xi/XI/Mail/30"
      xmlns:xi="http://sap.com/xi/XI/Mail/30"

       <ns0:Message1>
          <ns1:studentlisttest xmlns:ns1="urn:karthiksender_to_karthikreceiver">

                <From>[email protected]</From>
                <To>[email protected]</To>
                <Subject>Testing Mail adapter</Subject>
             </Mail>
          </ns1:studentlisttest>
       </ns0:Message1>
    </ns0:Messages>
    I have mapped the <student></student> information to customerlist, with customerid --> studentid and customername --> firstname or lastname (for symplicity). This was a multimapping with one source and two target messages. My test mapping output is
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <ns0:Messages xmlns:ns0="http://sap.com/xi/XI/SplitAndMerge">
         <ns0:Message1>
              <ns2:Mail xmlns:ns2="http://sap.com/xi/XI/Mail/30">

                   <Customername>abclname</Customername>
                   <Customerid>1</Customerid>
              </ns2:CustomerlistExternal>
         </ns0:Message2>
    </ns0:Messages>
    So how would I get this part of the <CustomerlistExternal></CustomerlistExternal> part of the message as an attachment to the mail address specified in the <ns2:Mail></ns2:Mail> tags.
    I'm definitely not understanding it right and am missing something. Could you give me step by step instructions to acheive this. I apologize for the trouble..this would be of great help to me.
    Thanks
