Staticky Patches on screen

Anyone know what's wrong with my computer? Every once in a while the display will get these patches of distortion and sometimes won't refresh until the cursor moves over the area.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I had this problem.
As suggested in an other post, I tried deleting that file:
/system/library/extensions/ATIRadeon9700.kext
That way the problem appears to be fixed: after deleting the archive and restarting the PB, I'm working on it all day long, and I had not noticed the problem any more.
I hope it will continue so.

  • MacBook Pro 15" reoccurring oily patches on screen

I have an early-2011 version MacBook Pro, new out of the box this mid-October. Within the last month I've noticed reoccurring small, oily patches appearing on the lower third of the left-hand side of the screen, especially after the cover has been closed for a significant period of time (like overnight).
The patches show up in about four places, in varying sizes, and always in the same place on the screen. The substance feels oily and is iridescent against the lit screen, but when wiped away with a clean soft cloth, disappears without smearing. When the patches reappear it's a relatively slow process — after I wipe the screen down I usually don't notice the spots again for several hours, and, I think, only if I've closed the cover. I haven't yet tested to see whether this happens only when I've closed the lid without sleeping or shutting down the Mac, or happens no matter the circumstance.
I don't believe the substance is coming from the keyboard. I use a Moshi Clearguard keyboard cover and I've checked the corresponding areas on and under the cover and on the keyboard, and there's no evidence of oiliness. By the same token, there's no visible evidence of damage to or imperfection in the screen.
Right now this is merely annoying and unexpected, but I don't want it to create a major issue should it worsen. Has anyone else experienced this?

I'd bring it in, thats what your warranty is for.

  • Dim spots/patches on screen

I noticed on my powebook display a couple of months ago some what appear to be like dim patches on my screen. I have 3 spots of them in the upper right hand corner of the screen, I thought it was dirt but I cleaned the screen and no change! the pixels arnt dead but the patches just dont seem as bright as the rest of the display around them.
anyone had simular issues or anyone got any ideas what this is?
    Thanks
    Adam

What kind of "spots" are you guys talking about? Have your screens got bumped or dinged by something? I have little spots on the right-hand side of my screen that no longer work, but I think something is squeezing or bumping my screen while I carry it in my pack.

  • Fglrx shows patches on screen

i have a ati graphics card and am using fglrx as driver.
    its version is 10.7-2
and i get some patches on the screen, have a look at this

it disappears when i print screen it, so i have to take a picture of it.

That's caused by the new 2D acceleration architecture of ATI. You would have known that (and thus the solution) if you searched the forums first.
Let me give you a hint, there is a "big ATI thread" on these forums, see if you can find it.

    Hi shashwat315.
Welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
If you have a screen protector on the screen, try removing it and see if the white disappears, if however this does not help, then you are likely looking at hardware, in this case you would be best contact Sony Mobile Customer Care to advise.

  • Help! patch on screen.

I put my Blackberry 8520 into repair because the scroller broke for the 3rd time. Anyway, I got it back yesterday and it works fine except there is a very small patch in the middle of my screen. It's not noticeable when  I'm on my home screen, photos etc. only on the black screen when you lock your phone. However it is still there because whenever I apply pressure to the corners of my screen or even the spot it moves around And I see it moving. It gets bigger and moves when I touch it but then goes straight back to the same size as before and back to the middle When I let go. My friend suggested water was in it but I don't think so. Please help. It doesnt bother me that much only when its on my black screen. will it grow bigger or Do I have to put it in repair again? Id rather not as that took forever.

    Hello
If your friend is correct try leaving the phone in some uncooked rice for 3-5 days ....it removes water , if moisture is the culprit here hopefully the problem will be solved.
    Better than rice is dessicant.

  • Video Glitching- Lines and Patches on Screen

    Hello.
This morning my three-year-old iMac G5 began exhibiting video glitches. The glitching occurs at all times, including the gray bootup screen. The display appears to be streaked all over with coloured lines which change colour and pattern when I move windows and objects around on the desktop.
    http://www.gossi.co.uk/misc/screenjpg.jpg
An additional strange symptom is that this first occurred when I started up World of Warcraft. Now the above behavior occurs at all times with or without WoW running. 3D graphics in WoW are highly distorted, stretched and blocky.
I am aware of the iMac repair problem, although my serial number does not match up, and my iMac is second generation rather than first.
This seems very unusual, and doesn't seem to match many other graphical problems mentioned on the forums. Has there been any other issues similar to this reported?

    To Apple Discussions!
"An additional strange symptom is that this first occurred when I started up World of Warcraft."
Are you playing this game off of a CD/DVD or is it installed onto your HD?
    Which OS are you using?
*A couple of things to try prior to visiting your local AASP:*
Max out your RAM. Your system info confirms you only have 1GB.
Boot from your System Install DVD & run the repair disk/permissions option(s). If this works, then I suggest that every time you play WOW, afterwards repair permissions directly from the HD & restart your computer. However, you really should consider maxing out your RAM.
    Mac OS X 10.4 Help-My Dispay Doesn’t Look Right
If the above is of no help then you will need to do the following:
    System Preferences>Display>Display
Check the Colors & Brightness settings.
My Color setting is set to Millions which I believe is the default setting.
Now click on the Color button.
    Check Display Profile
Is Show profiles for this display only enabled or disabled?
If necessary click on the Calibrate button & do the necessary.
Now in the bottom right corner, click on the purple button w/the black ? mark in the middle. This will bring up the help window.
Midway down, click on the Colorsync Utility link.
The next window should be Profile First Aid.
Read & follow the instructions/details of About Profile First Aid: & do the necessary to Verify & Repair.

  • New Retina MacBook Pro has crushed pixels (faint white splotches/patches on screen), anyone else?

Does anybody else have these ugly white splotches on their screens? I was so dissapointed to see this on my new retina display.  They're usually hard to see, but easy to see on a white/gray background.  I will most likely have to get a complete replacement, and this could take weeks. Does anyone else who ordered a new MacBook Pro have this issue?

    Return it.
Any display with ANY dead pixels is hard to sell.
Have a look on ebay, you will find many ads for used computers and displays that say "No Dead Pixels".
So you ever think that you will sell this computer in the future you don't want dead pixels.

  • Where can I find a patch for Indesign and Acrobat cs6 for mac retina display?

I have found the patch for screen resolution for photoshop, but the illustrator patch says it is not compatible and I cannot locate one for in-design (my primary program) or Acrobat. There must be a patch, right? Or else whats the point of it?

The patch is upgrading to InDesign CC, which requires an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription. Sorry.
There is no Acrobat CS6. The last version is Acrobat XI which was created too late to include support for Retina Display. It will probably be in the next version of Acrobat.
Creating "patches" for Retina Display are much more engineering intensive than you would expect. In the case of InDesign, it had to be completed in the context of moving to becoming a 64 bit application and moving application development from Carbon to Cocoa (a required move on the Mac accomplished finally in InDesign CC).

  • Macbook display light patch

In the bottom right corner of my screen there is this irregularly shaped patch of screen that is brighter than the rest. Around it is a "halo" of darker screen. Is there anyone else out there who has had this problem or knows how to fix it?
    Thanks

Did you try what I suggested? If so, there are other things you can try:
Reset the NVRAM: restart your mac, and as soon as it goes off press and hold down these four keys: Command (Apple key), Option, P, R. Hold them down until you hear the startup chime four times, then release the keys and let the machine continue booting.
Reset the Power Management Unit (PMU): shut down the Mac, disconnect AC power, remove the battery, press and hold the power button for 5 seconds. Put battery back in, reconnect AC power and then restart your Mac.
You can also try changing your display to a different resolution and then changing back to your original setting.
