Stationary background

I have a picture that I want to use as a transparent background for stationary that I want to create. Can someone please tell me how to do that.

I have been trying to follow your recommendations for making a custom stationery. I do not understand what programs I can use as an html editor. I have tried Pages and Text Edit and they do not work. I have tried using mail but after saving it and trying to open in Safari, it shows up gray and cannot be opened. What program are you using as an html editor? Thanks.

Stationary/Background pictures question.

Hello, I just had a quick question. I am a new Mac user, I have always used a PC before, and I just bought a mac which I have had for about a week. Anyways, my question is... is there any way to put stationary/background pictures on the e-mail? I can't find any anywhere on my computer, and I just want to know if I am overlooking it or not, and if there isn't any stationary, is there a way to get some? Thanks.
As for the computer that I have, it is a Mac OS X Version 10.4.9, and the Processor is 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.

I don't believe this is possible within Mac OS X Mail in Tiger but it will be in Leopard. You should check out some of Apple's iCards for now.

Need to perform robust feature extraction and tracking to determine the motion of the camera with respect to a stationary background ?

i have tried to use intensity thresholding but the variations make this unreliable. I need to determine a way to efficiently extract reliable features within a ROI (which can be determined by the last known speed of the platform) and correspond these between successive images to determine speed ? Are there any image analysis/image processing gurus out there? I have enclosed a typical image from one of my sequences (please note the faint stripe of light moves with the platform - it is not a stationary feature)

I tried equalizing your image (Lookup Table: Equalize) and searched for a horizantal edge (Find Straight Edge: Horizantal Edge) with a very high contrast value (100) inside a very big ROI and that seems to work fairly robust. I'm attaching the Vision Builder Script.

Using a fixed background image

I am just getting started with Muse, and am trying to duplicate a site that I'm building in Dreamweaver. My site has a stationary background that stays fixed as I scroll the page down or up. Is there a way to do this with Muse?*

Welcome to the world of Muse! I am very much an amateur, still learning Muse and never used another program, so I hope this is what you are actually looking for...
It depends... if you use the image as a browser fill, make sure that you uncheck the scroll box at the bottom of the fill options. If you are placing the image directly onto the page, then just pin it - select the image, go to the pin option to the left of the x-y-w-h- coordinate settings on the control panel, and click on one of the dots.

How do I make a vertical lightbox in muse while the background is stationary, like behance presentations?

Hey everyone.
I've been trying to design my personal portfolio in muse and I've hit a brick wall. I've always liked the way behance presentations are displayed, but I can't seem to be able to use the lightbox tool to make anything even remotely close to it.
All I want is a vertical lightbox that scrolls up and down while the background stays put and you can go back to it. Also, is there a way to make so that the links to the lightbox are in a parent page and each lightbox is in a separate child page?

I also have this question. Avid lets you change the frame up/down - to/from a dissolve point. In other words, I could have a dissolve go "up" at, for example, 5 frames, and then "down" at, say, 15 frames. As it stands now, FCPX only allows you the same amount of frames on either side of the cross-dissolve. (A 30-frame dissolve is split 15 frames on either side of the transition.)
Other NLE's give you the option for a dissolve to occur at the BEGINNING, in the MIDDLE (STANDARD CROSS-DISSOLVE) or at the END of a transition. (Depending, of course, on if you have the "handles" to execute the transition,)
Can we achieve this in FCPX? Is this where we launch the "precision editor?"

Animated gif background - Won't animate!

I have a website which my partner and I have created. I'm really happy with what we have achieved EXCEPT I am trying to add an animated star gif background which is stationary even when I've published it. I've searched so many places for the solution that I'm now thoroughly confused as to if this is possible.
The website is http://www.billieanthony.co.uk and I have added the animated gif to the welcome page only (black/blue stars) to see if it works (which to me doesn't). I added the gif via the page inspector layout section. The other pages only have a static background.
Any comment gratefully received even if it's only to say it can't be done.

Step one to enable the community to help debug what you're encountering would be to provide the URL for the page where the GIF is being used. My first guess would be there are effects applied to the image (i.e. inner glow, bevel, etc.) that require Muse to re-encode the image and Muse does not support encoding animated .gif. It only supports passing animated .gif files through unchanged. (And to get an image to pass through unchanged it needs to have no effects that require rasterization applied in Muse.)
Given you've stated the GIF file is 7.5Mb I have to question your choice of .gif. At 7.5Mb this single file will take ~8 seconds to download on the average US broadband connection and will be much slower for many broadband users and most cellular users. GIF is a reasonable choice for very small short animations used sparingly, but is seldom (if ever) a good choice for larger or longer animations. Better choices for those are to use a video or a tool like Edge Animate to create a HTML5/CSS3 animation. The end result will be vastly more user friendly in terms of page load performance.
A huge percentage of first time visitors to a webpage will cancel the page load rather than waiting 8+ seconds for the page load to complete.

How do I use "Flip" Effect only on one JPG not on Background and JPG?

Hi I'm a pro editor (but still reletively new) and trying Pro10 I'm using a green screen. Have my guy in front of a background and want to use the "Flip" movement transition. It seems to literally "grab" the background and flip it too. How do you have "Flip Transition" only effect the clip I attached it to and not mhy background which I want to be stationary? I tried "disable" on the background and that was not it... the manual doesn't explain much. Thanks so much!

y-e-a-h... that background isn't from anything in FCPX -- it's part of the effect (created in Motion 5).
I put in a checkbox to turn it off for you.

I'd like to be able to do this.
I send a lot of photos,(for my biz as an art photographer), and they would present FAR better on aa grey or black background than on the harsh and glaring white background.
I haven't figured out how to create a coloured background template for the Stationary plug, or that might be an option.

You can't do that, but you can change the visual properties of the display by selecting Apple menu > System Preferences > Displays > Color > Calibrate...

Is it possible to get transparent background when exporting to PDF?

When exporting a document to PDF, Pages turns the background white instead of keeping it transparent. I need it to be transparent. Can anyone tell me what to do to fix this?
When I print a document I use stationary that is in my printer. When I want to send the document by email I need to combine my text with my stationary (on the same page). In CS4 InDesign this is really easy with switching layers on/off, but I don't want to use InDesign for my wordprocessing, but Pages. In Pages I can add a background, but I can't switch it on/off. So now I use AcrobatPro 9 to combine my text document with my stationary, adding it as a watermark or background. This does not work with documents I made in Pages since Pages makes the background of a document WHITE when it exports to pdf. Instead it needs to be TRANSPARENT.
By the way: MS-Word gets it right: it keeps the background transparent when making a pdf. But I don't want to go back to Word, I just want Pages to do it right...
Any suggestions how I can make this work? Thanks!

Pages has an odd behavior, it actually puts 2 white backgrounds in the back of its documents.
This confounds Acrobat which inserts watermarks in front of the 1st background but sandwiched under the 2nd.
MsWord does not actually make a transparent background it just makes the 1 white background, or whatever the paper color may be.
If you want your watermark, you will need to add it in Pages, possibly as a master object in a section template that you can eliminate or add as you want.

How do I create stationary in email

I have a Macbook Pro using Snow Leopard. My issue is with e-mail. When I attach something, it appears in the body of my e-mail, but I assume the person at the other end sees it as an attachment. Is this correct? The other issue I have is that I would like to create my own stationary in e-mail. The system has some templates that can be modified, but they are not very flexible. When I was on a PC I had Outlook Express. With that, I could use a photo as a background for staionary. I've not been able to find a way to do that on a Mac. Is there a method for doing this?

How to make new stationary in Mail

Hi there. I am trying to make a new mail template to send out some company info. I understand the principal of creating an email then >save as Stationary but I can only put images left center or right. I would like to create something close to the stationary supplied in Mail with photo place holders, text boxes and a background.
I would really appreciate some help with this if possible.

if you already have the account on your mac, it will sync/create it on your iPhone.
If you want to create one maually on the iPhone, do this:
Go to Settings/Mail/ then click on ADD Account..... follow the instructions/input your username data, etc.

How do I send an email with a background color?

I use google's gmail and they don't have the capability to use stationary or background colors.
So I am trying a trial version of Outlook. Altough this is working I really don't want to have to buy Microsoft Office.
Am I missing the boat somewhere? Does Lion have any email capabilities like this?

The background color in my bookmarks page changed

This morning, it looked like Itunes. This afternoon it has this awful yellowish background. Is there not a way to change this back? This happened on my other PC a few months ago.
I searched everywhere and came up empty. I tried to reset, uninstall/ reinstall... No changes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Idea for new (stationary) notebook

This is just feedback summary on the HP Pavilion dv7-3135eo, I got. So if you got a forum for "How would you layout your own notebook" this topic belongs...
If I could upgrade this notebook, I would turn it into a stationary notebook. Partly because I only want to work with it under appropriate circumstances (fx. a livingroom) and not somewhere random. And partly because I dislike the size and weight of normal stationary scums.
1. So first I would get rid of the battery, that I never use: for lesser weight and lesser configuration options.
2. I would also get rid of the touchpad, that I never use and just keep locked.
3. And my pc would also have to be right-handed, so that the mouse would have to be plugged in next to the keyboard with an USB lead in the right side. (No wireless mouse, cause they got a nasty habit of going into sleep for power savings).
- And following the mouse pad could maybe be pulled out from underneat and tighten somehow. (No advertisement on it cause it tend to confuse the laser.)
4. All other data + power leads + the wire lock against theft would have to be on other side or behind, so that you could move mouse freely on right side.
5. Also get rid of DVD drive, since this media is far more likely to fail than USB, plus it makes far more noise. In short I don't need DVD and never use it.
6. When the machine gets very hot probably near the processor, you can feel it up through the keyboard. But since I don't need the touchpad, I would move the keyboard forward - closer to the user - and somehow raise the keys. In the notepad they are all flat on the internal keyboard and that increases the possibility of striking two keys simultanously when playing realtime games by mistake. So I would raise the keys somehow like on a normal external board.
7. The materials should also be more unliniar on the surface, cause you have to wipe them clean all the time for all the dirt that easily hangs to them.
8. The webcam should have a switch off permanently switch.
9. The wire that locks the notebook is good, cause there lots of addicted rats out there who get another shot just by stealing a notebook. Maybe that could be improved?
10. Maybe HP could build in some stuff, so that you could lock the PC from using internet just like you can block a creditcard?
11. I would also like a pen to mark the casing with ID with the sale.
12. If it is considered nessecary to make an image backup after completing configuration for use, HP might as well sell an usb external harddisk with the notebook.
13. I personally use the pc for gaming, online medias and internet communication. So for software I would like a sandbox to install new games into, before they ruin anything. And also complete CPU + internet bandwidth overview, because when playing online I don't want automatic update programs running in the background. And when the game is slow I need to check it.

Yes! and when you are in a hostel or a hotel there should be table and so on like in a livingroom. What I mean is: that it should be low weight (transportable) but not more than when you want to use it that you have to sit correctly with enough space to pull out mouse (try playing world of warcraft with touchpad...) and so on. Just pull out the battery and you will naturally get it, because then you'll need a place to plug it.
When I bought mine I immediately also bought the wire cable to lock it with. Some other guy just told me that he got his stolen by closing his eyes tired for just 5 minutes at an eating place where also lots of drugaddicted come. All cables were still there infront of him except the machine.
I also noticed that dirt can find its way through the keyboard even when you clean the surface. So if it is impossible to make a laptop with high keys all in normal size (and no [fn] functions because of lack of keyboardspace), then I would prefer the (stationary) notebook without both touchpad and keyboard and have them external instead. And even if they both were external I would still prefer the laptop way of opening the screen (secured for transport when closed ) instead of a screen with a big heavy foot and no shielding the screen when transporting it. The new computers with machine hiding behind the screen still need a heavy foot to hold up the screen, and so I think the notebooks are still better. Even besides the weight the notebooks are 500% better than ordinary stationary pc's, because you do not have to concern about inside the computer. Just buy a new laptop instead of updating single components ...
