Stationery Pad for Pages and TextEdit?

Hi,
I just saw the Apple video podcast about Stationery Pad and decided to try it out. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work with "container" document types, include Pages and .rtfd TextEdit files!
Is there a work around for this? For example, would it be possible to save a TextEdit/Pages document as one file, or is there a way to get the feature to work with, um, types that people might expect to make stationery/templates with?
Perhaps it would be better for me to look into how templates work in Pages . . . too bad, it sounded like such a nifty universal feature to have in Finder.
Thanks!
Daniel

Hi.
I just found myself in the same situation. I have a pages document wich I have to fill and archive every now and then. So far, I've been using "save as", but the stationery pad should do this for me. Why doesn't it work and what can we do about it, I wish I know.
And I used to believe that Mac doesn't make mistakes like Microsoft.
If you find a solution, please let me know.

  • HT5534 I  DOWNLOADED SOME UPDATE FOR PAGES, AND NOW MY OLD DOCUMENTS CANNOT  BE OPENED UNLESS I  BUY THE NEW PAGES APPLICATION.   THIS *****,  I HAVE WORK TO DO NOW AND AM NOT INTERESTED IN AN UPGRADE.

I  downloaded some upgrade for pages, (not the new version for $19.95) now my computer will not open previous pages documents on my desktop without me buying the new version.  I am not interested in the new version as I have seen numerous negative comments.  I  simply want my system to work as it did before Apple pulled this trick to force me into buying the new pages.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  I have work to do !

You are aware that Pages for Mac and Pages for iPad /iPhone/iPod are 2 different program?
Looks like you have Pages for Apple mobile devices but not for your Mac.

How do I get the Screen for pages, numbers and quickbooks to become bigger on my screen.
The Font is fine for pringing

Mac's don't have UI scale options like Windows has.
Either you can drop the screen resolution in Displays a wee bit and make things appear distorted, or do what I do and use the Universal Access and set a control key, then use a mouse wheel/scroll to zoom in and out where the mouse is pointed.

  • Need a common manage bean for page and its fragments

    Hi,
I'm using Jdev 11.1.2.3.0. I have a page and its fragments (i using <af:region> to include these fragments).
I want to create a mutual bean used for that page and its fragments.
Beause my page fragments are contained in other BTF, so i cannot use PageFlow Bean scope and
I don't want to use session scope and application scope.
Could someone have any ideas ?
    Thank you.

    Hi Frank,
I used Shared DC, but now I got an issue
I have <af:panelGroupLayout> in my page fragment and i want to bind it to RichPanelGroupLayout in my common bean (already create Data Control for this bean).
I cannot do this, I just can bind attributes of RichPanelGroupLayout to my page fragment.
Do you have any ideas? Can we bind directly RichPanelGroupLayout in DC to page fragment like this: <af:panelGroupLayout id="panelGroupLayout11" layout="scroll" *binding="#{bindings.panelGroupLayout}"* ...
    Thank you very much

  • Instructions for "pages' and"numbers"

I have installed both app's and am excited about what I see so far. However, I am a loss trying to find instructions for either one.
Anybody have any ideas in this regard?
    Bill

You said you can't get instructions. Do you mean a real item or the getting started guide.  If you mean the getting started guide then it should be there if its not go into setting, and on the left side of the screen scroll down until you see pages and number and keynote if you need that as well.  Then you will chose one of the three apps on the side bar and turn on restore getting started.  If that doesnt help try to download the apps again.  Just remember to back up the documents in the app before you delete it and redownoad it from the purchesed tap in the app store.

  • Memo Pad for ratings and labels

Would be nice to have a catalog specific memo pad available to notate what
the ratings and labels one has applied mean in that particular catalog. For
example, I recently opened a catalog I hadn't used in a few weeks and was
puzzled what I had meant by the green labels that were applied to some
images. Because of differing needs for differing sets of images, I can't
have one standardized meaning for all stars and colors and pick flags. So
then we could note Green means "email image", Purple means "Print select"
    or something like that...
    David Madison

Along these lines, it'd be nice to tag images with personal text notes like "this is the image that Fred liked", or "needs masking in photoshop"... Then, when you moused-over the image, the note would pop-up in a little balloon.
I suppose you could use the metadata to add notes, but it doesn't work quite this smoothly.

  • An out-landish use for Pages and iMovie ??

Now this is just an idea and I thought I'd put it here to kick around a bit.
If I were to create a single page document in Pages with just images (photos maybe even some digital sketches) and position them in a relatively artistic fashion so that it's not just a page with a stack of pics on it, would it be possible to then save that Pages document as something which I could then drop into iMovie like I do with any of my other photos and pics? Or perhaps use it in Keynote which I could then convert to a QT file?
Or am I just thinking too out there?

    Hello Wytche,
if you only want to have an image to use in other apps, there is a very easy way:
    1) Press the shortcut "cmdalt+shift4" to start the mouse-area-selection-screenshot.
    2) Hold the mouse button down where the left top corner of the image should be and drag the mouse to the right bottom corner you want to have for the image.
    3) Start Preview and press the shortcut "cmd+N" or choose the menu item "File/New From Clipboard".
Now you have the image in Preview to save it as whatever file type you need. Of course you can use the shortcut "cmdshift4" to have an image saved directly to the Finder. Have a look in "System Preferences/Keyboard & Mouse" and there under the tab button "Keyboard-Shortcuts" to assign own shortcuts.
    Frank.

  • Changing default application for Pages and Word docs?

I wasn't sure if this was the right place to ask this...
I just got a new computer, running Tiger. I own older copies of Word (which I hate) and iWork (which I love). When I copied my data to my new computer, all my documents defaulted to opening in the new versions of those programs. Furthermore, it won't let me change the program that opens those type of documents.
I open the information on a document, tell it to open in Pages 1.0, and that works fine. But if I try to tell it to "Change All", it just reverts to Pages 2.0. The exact same thing happens when I try to tell Word docs to open in my old version of Word, or with Keynote. I can open my files just fine within the program, but it's getting really, really irritating not to be able to open documents by double clicking.
Any advice? I can't afford to buy the new programs, even if I wanted them (which I don't, in the case of Word).

  • I'm trying to find a support group for Pages and Numbers.

Thought my post was clear.  I've gone to applications.  All I seem to find are questions re Appleworks (boy, do I miss Appleworks!).
What I need help with is the oh so wonderful, easy to use, Pages.

  • Now on Mountain Lion; how do I download new versions of Numbers, Pages, and Keynote?

    Just installed Mountain Lion.
In checking out the iCloud features, it works fine for Preview and TextEdit.
But Numbers and Pages do not seem to be integrated with iCloud. Then I noticed that my version of these is out of date. There are new updates which I need to download to take advantage of the new iCloud integration. But I cannot seem to download them. When I run Software Update, nothing needs updating.
So how do I download these updates?

iWork '09 installed from the retail disk or from the downloaded trial must be updated through Software Update. In Mountain Lion Software Update has been "rolled into" the Mac App Store. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu just like you always have & the Mac App Store will launch. Depending on what you have that needs updating you may see two sections in the MAS window.
But, as always, if you're not running the latest versions of the iWork apps installed from a retail box or the downloaded trial & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. If you installed from the downloaded trial or the retail box, they must be in the iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.
You can also download the standalone updater from this page.

  • Stationery pad: change in behavior?

It appears that the function of the “Stationery pad” option has changed from its long-standing and well-established behavior. In all previous versions of the Mac OS, you could designate a file as a "Stationery pad" with a check box in the file's Get Info window. This would let you open the file without overwriting the original Then when you did a “Save” or “Save As . . .” you gave the edited file a name and saved it. The original file remained unchanged and in the past there was no other duplication of the original file.
Now when you open a Stationery pad file, the OS immediately creates a copy of the original in the original directory. If you edit and save the newly opened file, you can still save it wherever you want and the original stationery file is left untouched. HOWEVER, the OS has already created a second copy of your original with the word “copy” appended to the file name, and saved it in the same director as the original. As a result you now have two new copies of your original Stationery file.
So, now my hard drive is littered with files that I had never intended to create because of this new behavior. Yes, it’s easy to find these files by searching for “copy” and deleting them, but this is very inconvenient and is a major change from the long established behavior of the Finder’s "Stationery pad" option.
Am I missing something here, is there some Finder preference that I haven’t discovered?
    Has anyone else noticed this?
    MuSonics
PS: I just noticed this with the update to Snow Leopard. The change might have occurred with Leopard.

    Thanks again Jeffrey,
But, now I'm really nonplussed. I've been using Stationery pads for years, at least 20. I started on Macs in 1983 as a member of an Apple Consortium University, where we were writing programs for the soon-to-be-released Macs using Lisa Pascal. Now I'm a consultant, and I use about 10 different Stationary pad documents, and probably use them 10 - 20 times a day. Every time I make a phone call to a client I open a stationery Phone Log, fill it out, save it, and I'm done. Yeah, consultants talk on the phone a lot! So, this isn't exactly something new for me or a rare occurrence.
But, the way I described the Stationery pad behavior in my original post is the way it has always worked, and this accounts for at least 30 - 40 files that I create every week. It wasn't until I upgraded to Snow Leopard from Leopard, that I started finding these "copy" files. But, the Apple How To file you referenced is perfectly clear. I just don't understand why for me it has never worked this way before Snow Leopard. There are also several other people having a similar experience and reaction as I'm having, but as I said, the Apple How To would seem to indicate I'm . . . um . . . confused.
In any event, I'll just maintain my new standard practice of deleting all the "copy" files every week. Just one more new habit to learn. Most of them are in one directory, so this isn't exactly a chore.
    Thanks,
    MuSonics
