Statistical Forecasting - Directing Forecast Results to Spool

hi,
We are executing planning jobs ( /n/sapapo/mc8g) for Statistical Forecasting. The planning jobs have been set up through /n/sapapo/mc8e with the required parameters and forecast profiles attached.
Post successful completion of the planning jobs, we get the results in the following manner :
1. Forecast Results are getting stored in the specified key figure in the interactive planning book
2. Job execution messages and information on parameters such as MAPE, MAD etc are directed to the spool.
Is there anyway in which we can also direct the forecast results to the spool ?
regards,
Anirudha

hi Luiz,
Basically I wanted the forecasting run results to be directed to the spool to be viewed at a later point of time.
What we are currently doing is trying out the various models for statistical forecasting ( using Univariate profiles ). SInce we are having to execute a large number of runs, it is pretty time consuming as we have to execute it for a specific brand, note down the forecasted numbers ( populated in the interactive planning book for the forecast horizon ) and then move on to the next model / brand.
To simplify and speed up the process, we wanted to try out the following :
1) Create the required number of univariate profiles with various models and parameters
2) Create Planning Activities ( with the corresponding profile attached ) and Planning Jobs
3) Execute the planning jobs through mc8g
4) View the job output in the job spool at one go
The issue we are facing is that the forecast results are getting written only to the interactive planning book. And not directed to the spool. I have listed the sample spool output of the planning run job below. If you observe the spool, only run related info and MAPE, MSE etc are listed.
How do we write the forecast results ( for the forecast horizon ) to the spool also ?

  • Which Forecasting Model/ Forecasting Stratergy is suitable for Steel Plant

    Hello Friends,
Could you pl suggest me Which Forecasting Model/ Forecasting Stratergy is suitable for Steel Plant.Any one having the steel plant experiance pl suggest me .
    Edited by: sivaram2411 on Jan 19, 2011 6:37 AM

    Hi Sivaram,
I haven't worked in Steel but worked in Cement industry. Cement is another input to construction industry, just like steel. In India, both have seasonal demand. But I would give a generic suggestion here, though you can check with your network in other steel companies having similar product offering as yours, about the forecasting model they follow.
Choice of forecasting model is not industry dependent. Because within the same industry, each player has a different product mix, different set of customers and in different geograhies. Forecasting model is selected based on the analysis of historical data. So you can take last 2 years available data to start with.
Demand Planning provides the following statistical forecasting models: constant model, trend model, seasonal model, trend and seasonal model, Croston method with exponential smoothing, linear regression, and causal models with multiple linear regression (MLR).
Time series models are the most commonly used forecasting methods.
The flow chart is like this:
Raw Data collection --> Data analysis --> Analyzed data --> Forecasting Model selection
You can use plotting as a method of Data analysis,
We need to find the best forecasting model, so that it gives us the most accurate demand. There is no systematic approach for the selection of a forecasting model and you need to find the best for you by trial and error.
The following factors impact the model selection: (1) Forecast Horizon (2) Data Availability / Requirements (3) Pattern of Past Data (4) Level of Detail in the Forecast (5) Cost Factors (6) Accuracy and (7) Ease of Application.
So use the historical data, analyse it, try using the available forecasting methods one by one to forecast for a period during which the actual data is already available with you and find the one which is best matching the actual figures. The model giving most accurate results, or the one with least forecast error, would be the one you are looking for.

  • CDR in the context of Forecast and forecast version

Can someone please help me understand the term "CDR" in the context of forecast and forecast version? What is the expansion of the term CDR?

No idea of what is CDR ... We have CDP which means characteristic dependent planning.
Maybe CDR is also characterisict dependent somthing? (Just a guess ...)
What's the context do you find this term?

  • Forecast Engine forecasting 2.5 to 3 times more than expected

Is there a system parameter which can be used to reduce the forecast qty?
Is it possible that 2 instances with same data ( one instance cloned from another) have different forecasts, after running engine on both instances?
    Please advise
    Thanks

    Hi,
Compare the value for GLOB_PROP in UAT and PROD for a particular combination where you see this difference in forecast. If you see the value is 2-3 times higher in PROD than UAT, then u can try below steps:
    1. Update mdp_matrix set prop_changes=1;
    2. Commit;
    3. Exec proport;
4 Run Engine in BATCH mode

  • BAPI/FM to display data(result) in spool

    Hi all,
I am using bapi BAPI_REQUISITION_DELETE to set deletion flag of PR.
Here all the error messages are captured and i need to display that resulttant error data in spool.
How can I dispaly resultant error message captured by BAPI in Spool.
Is there a FM/BAPI  or i shld be using Simple write statement.

    Hi Sachin,
Check with the simple write statement.
If you run this report program in back ground job, then this
       should work.
If it doens't work, there are few class methods to handle this.

  • Issue with Creating Forecast Profiles/Forecasting

    Hello Experts,
We are facing an issue with creating forecast profiles.
We have two FYVs defined in our system, one with 52/53 fiscal weeks (Fiscal Variant W1) and the other with 12 fiscal months (FYV M1), Our storage buckets profile (STP) uses W1,  since we have many dataviews that use W1 as the FYV in the attached Planning buckets profile(PBP). We also have dataviews that display in fiscal months (use FYV M1 in the attached PBP), data from Fiscal weeks will be aggregated and shown in Fiscal months . We need to do forecasting using FYV M1, that is forecast in Fiscal Months , but since the storage bucket profile has W1 which is used in the Planning Area config. We are unable to create any Forecast profiles with FYV M1 . Please note that we cannot use M1 in STP because when we used M1 in STP, we could not create  dataviews in fiscal weeks (using W1)
    1. Is there any way we can forecast using M1 while having assinged W1 to the Planning area/STP ?
    2. OR we are willing to assing M1 to PA, provided we can use W1 in some of the dataviews, unfortunately we were unable to do this, though the vice versa is possible i,e. we could have W1 in STP and M1 in some of the related PBPs/ Weekly Dataviews.
Please let me know if any of these are possible or if there is any alternative way to do forecasting in Fisc Months.
    Thanks
    Tej

    Hi,
You are correct, the Storage bucket profile always has to be at a detailed level. Time bucket profile can be at higher levels like monthly, quarterly etc.,
Coming to the root of your problem, which is you are unable to forecast at a level other that what is specified in your Storage bucket profile, unfortunately the answer is no.
You can do a forecast only at the level at which the data is stored and not at the level at which the data is viewed.
One work around for this is to create an additional planning area with the same MPOS and this addl PA can contain only those bare minimum KF required for your forecast. After you generate your forecast, you can copy it to your Weeks based PA and then proceed from there. This copy of KF between PA is much faster as it will happen at LC level and should not cause time delays.
NOTE - You have to exercise caution when you are using 2 periodicities i.e., weeks and months, if you are using standard SAP calendar then you are good to go. If you are creating custom Fiscal variants pls ensure the start and end of a month is same in both the weekly and monthly variants. Failing which, there will be mismatch of data between the two dataviews.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks

  • I want to print form directly with out using spool request

    hi,
i want to print form directly with out using output type screen (spool request or print preview ) , i want to supress the screen and get output directly to the printer. plz help me
    thanks&regards
    praveen

    Hi Praveen,
In your program, where you are calling the OPEN_FORM function.. pass the name of the printer in the 'DEVICE' parameter of the function module..
Also, there is a parameter OPTIONS of sturcture ITCPO in the same function module.. in this parameter you will find lot of options to set properties for the printing..
There will be one field for immediate printing, set that field to 'X' and other settings for print in the same structure and pass to the function module..
    Thanks and Best Regards,

i also have question regarding ex-post method and median method and none
whats the difference between these methods
    Regards
    Raju

    Hi Raju,
Take a look of the SAP documentation. Here you have the detail of what the Auto Model Sel 2 is doing:
Automatic Model Selection Procedure 2 - Univariate Forecasting - SAP Library
Anyway, maybe because I don't understand exactly what the system is doing or maybe because I have found inconsistencies, I would not use the automatic model selection models in APO DP.
Take a look of these articles talking about some inconsistencies:
Getting Best Fit to Work in SAP? - Demand Planning
Best Fit Forecasting in SAP DP - SAP Planning
As you can see in the first article, Auto Model Sel 2 uses to copy the data.
If you are trying to identify the model, take a look of the Sales Pattern, then run different methods, play with the parameters (alpha, beta, gamma) and determined what should be the model and the set of parameters base on the MAPE.
For ex-post method (constant), you can read this article:
APO DP - Forecast Model Parameters: First-Order Exponential Smoothing
Looking at the SAP help documentation you can see the difference between Ex-post and Median methods:
Ex-Post Forecast - Univariate Forecasting - SAP Library
Median Method - Univariate Forecasting - SAP Library

  • Releasing forecast to PP/DS directly from an infocube

    Hi,
has anyone of you ever tried to release an forecast directly from an infocube (i.e. without using DP), is that possible? Maybe there is already a report?
    Thanks in advance,
    Niko

May we know what that report is? Did you try the transaction /SAPAPO/REL_TO_SNP - Release InfoProvider to Supply Network Planning (program /SAPAPO/RELEASE_CUBE_TO_SNP)?
    Thanks.

  • What is ExPost Forecast ? how to calculate it?

    Hi Frnds
I would like to know more about Ex-Post Forecast Method kindly let me know the clear details about this ?

Ex Post Forecast is generated by the system during the statistical forecast calculation and only appears in historical periods.  It shows you how the system is interpreting the demand history as it processes it.  In this sense, it shows you how the system is "learning" the history.  All forecast error metrics are calculated by comparing the ex post fcst to the demand history, so lower forecast error numbers mean the forecast profile assigned to the selection fits the history better.
In our implementation, we have included a key figure in the planning area for the ex post forecast so that the planners could see the comparison of ex post to history in the dataview graph.  This lets them see at a glance how well the model traces the history.
You may also want to include a key figure for Corrected History in the planning area and in a dataview.  The system actually copies history to 9AVCORHIST at runtime to use as the basis of the statistical forecast, and the results of background processes like Lifecycle Planning (Like, phase-in and phase-out profiles) and promotion planning show up here -- this makes it easier to trace what the system is doing and how it arrived at the statistical forecast.

  • Mixed periodicities in a forecast are not allowed ???

    Hi All,
When I try to run the forecast in DP in BACKGROUND then I see following message "mixed periodicities in a forecast are not allowed", but when I execute the forecast in foreground it works completely fine with that forecast profile and everything same.
Can anyone suggest the way to handle this???
    Best Regards,
    Chandan Dubey

    Hi Chandan,
This is the standard design in the background.
If you run your forecast in batch you can only use one periodicity and
not mixed periodicities. Per design it is not allowed to
use different periodicities for forecast in mass processing.
In interactive demand planning, the forecast key figure and other key
figures, such as the adjusted past within the past and forecast horizon
are saved independently of the planning horizon of the planning book or
planning view. This means in particular that the forecast also saves
results outside of the planning horizon for the planning book or
planning view. For performance reasons, however, the horizon of the
planning book must be greater than the horizons in the forecast profile
in the background processing. It is sufficient therefore if the horizon
of the planning book in greater than or equal to the forecast horizon. In
this case, the forecast results are saved but the adjusted past or the
expost forecast cannot be saved. Therefore, a warning message indicating
that the horizon of the planning book does not contain the past period
for the forecast is issued here.In addition, note that for performance
reasons the period units of the planning book and forecast profile must
be identical in the background processing. This is directly due to the
fact that you are not allowed to you use planning books with mixed
period units in the background processing. These restrictions do not
    exist in the interactive planning.
    I hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Tibor
Furthermore, note that data is not saved in lines or areas that are not
ready for input in the background processing. Therefore if, for example,
you want to save the adjusted past, then the past horizon for the
planning book must be ready for input.

  • Planning using forecasting in PP

I am using forecasting to plan raw materials. The way I want the forecasting to work is that it shoud copy the historical consumption as the forecast as an example Jan 2007 actual consumption should be the forecast for Jan 2008. In summary last year's month sales = This year's month sales.
I have created the forecasting view for the material but am not sure which forecasting model I should put in the Material Master to meet this requirements.
    thanks

    Dear,
    do the following
    Period indicator = M
    Model forcast = J
    hist period = 12
    forecastperiod = 12
    Initilization = X
    tracking limit = 4
    selcetion procedure =1
reset aumatocally = check box set
    para.optmization = check box set
correction factor = check box set
    optimization level = F
    execute the forecast
    selcet the forecast date
    Forecast model = seasonal model
    clickk on forecast
check box set - winter procedure
    alfa factor = .2
    Gamam factor = .3
    period/ season = 12
    click on forecast
here is the result waht you are expecting.  see the result and come back

  • DEMAND FORECAST

    Dear All,
Please guide regarding demand forecsting in Consumption Based Planning in MM.
    Regards,
    Vikas

    Vikas,
Technically, you don't forecast demand in consumption based forecasting, you forecast your future usage, based on past usage.  However, the end result is the same.
Check out SAP online help.  Within the section about CBP, the forecasting stuff starts here:

    Hi All,
I am facing one scenario which is
    Forecast 1.
    Item A 100 qty
    Item B 200 qty.
on the base of this forecast when we Run MRP the result is accurate.
we does not create some purchase order and production order from the order recommdation report of froecast 1.
    Now forecast 2.
    Item B 100
    Item A 200
by considering existing stock. purchase order, production order and running the MRP with the forecast 2
the result we got is only for the previous forecast.
what we need from the SAP result will recommand us  balance of previous and the forecast.2
How to solve this issue please guide
    early reply highly appriciated

MRP takes into consideration of only one Forcast in the MRP Wizard.
You cannot have two forecasts for a same period and expect MRP to take both forecasts in a single MRP run.
You should consolidate your Forecasts in to one based on the period and then have MRP run.
Have a look at the following PDF to know more

  • Need help with Report for Lag Forecast

    Hi All,
I need your inputs in creating a Report to show Lag Forecast.
Forecast is done on a weekly basis. Assuming forecast is done at a time for 3 upcoming weeks, the data in the cube will be as follows:
    ZCALWEEK     CALWEEK     MATERIAL     FORECAST
    46     47     ABC     2
    46     48     ABC     3
    46     49     ABC     6
    47     48     ABC     11
    47     49     ABC     8
    47     50     ABC     14
    48     49     ABC     10
    48     50     ABC     2
    48     51     ABC     5
    49     50     ABC     4
    49     51     ABC     6
    49     52     ABC     9
Now the calculation for lag is as follows:
Lag1 for Week 47 = Forecast for Week 47 done in ZCALWEEK 46
Lag2 for Week 47 = Forecast for Week 47 done in ZCALWEEK 45
Lag2 for Week 48 = Forecast for Week 48 done in ZCALWEEK 46
User wants to run the Report for a range of Calweeks.
For the Selection -  Calweek: 47-49 Report should be as follows:
    CALWEEK     47          48          49
    Material     LAG1     LAG2     LAG1     LAG2     LAG1     LAG2
    ABC     2          11     3     10     8
To achieve this we used the variable for Calweek and offset its value.
So Lag 1 = Forecast restricted by week 47-1
Lag 2 = Forecast restricted by week 47-2
This approach of offsetting variable only works for the first week that is week 47.
In the subsequent weeks the value is offset again to the same value as first week.
For example in Lag2 for Week 49 = Forecast for Week 49 done in ZCALWEEK 47. However the offset approach fetches value of the Forecast done in week 45.
Please advice as to how this might be solved.
Is it possible to show the Report for a range of weeks or is it only feasible to show data for one week at a time?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Amrita

Create an user entry variable that computes the current lag and create replacement path variables replaced by the selection variable and the current offsets. Have you tried this approach?
If this replacement path variable approach not working you can try calculation everything using formulas in transformations that can directly input required lags in cube itself.
