Status at BIOS 1.50 (865PE)

So this is my status now (with the new BIOS 1.50) on my 865PE Neo2-FIS2R:
When Performace Mode is "fast, turbo, ultra turbo" PAT is activated (Sandra shows that)
In Performance Mode "slow" PAT is not activated.
The system is stable ONLY with "slow" setting. At "fast, turbo, ultra turbo" there are symptoms like kick2desktop, systems hangs, and so on  X(  Regardless if the RAM-Timing is at 2-3-3-7 or 2-2-3-5 (see signature).
Sandra shows the correct RAM-Timings.
OC: I can go up to 220 MHz FSB on 1:1. But the system isn´t as fast as i expected. But it´s stable.
I get 16600 Points @ 3DMark2001... thats quite crappy ^^
Well... i am really not satisfied...  X(

Update:
I´ve just tested RAM-Timings 2,5 - 4 - 4 - 8, Burst 8. So RAM is VERY slow
Even with these settings, PAT (fast, turbo, ultra-turbo) leads to system-hangs and kick2desktop  X(

  • USB Keyboard not working at boot to enter BIOS (Neo2-LS 865PE)

    Hi,
I just upgraded to a new usb keyboard for my computer but it seems that I can't use it at boot time...When i was using the PS/2 KB I was able to enter bios and select the multiple boot selection...now with the USB one I can't! Is there any option I have to set in the BIOS to support USB KB at boot time ? If I let go the boot sequence up to Windows, I can use the USB KB in Windows...it is detected and everything seems to be ok!
    Thanks!
    My Motherboard is a Neo2-LS 865PE...

The BOSS is always right Yup, just enable what he said and you will be fine.

  • 1.44B Bios for MSI 865PE NEO FISR2

Can any of you mods send this file my way? My email is [email protected] Thanks.
Also, what are the supposed fixes included with this bios?

    hi Misdeismo,
I'm sorry but we do not distribute beta BIOSes, with exception though. Usually when particular user has problem and we feedback to MSI, once MSI tell us to give him/her a try on the beta BIOS, there we will send the beta BIOS to him/her. Other than that, we don't. We are a bit conservative on this.  8)
Anyway, we don't stop users using beta BIOS, provided they know the risks and voiding warranty. As you see when users claim he/she has the beta BIOS and willing to distribute, we won't block or remove the threads unless being told by MSI, but MSI never do that.
I'm quite sure some users already have hand with 1.44B BIOS. Probably you can approach them. :D

  • Best Bios for OC 865pe Neo2 LS

as my OC has become unstable when upgrading to 2.1, i wonder with which bios version the members of this forum are able to achieve the highest OC!
i will downgrade maybe to 1.9?
please post your thoughts and results.....

I found bios v1.9 the best so far, only a few fsb points difference between this and 2.0 and 2.1 but much better than anything else below 1.9, also the most stable for my setup ( see sig ).

Unfortunately Lenovo laptops do not provide BIOS recovery functionality, either get the laptop in for warranty, or find a local computer repair shop that will reprogram your SOIC8 BIOS chip, they usually charge $40

  • 865PE Neo2-V problem/bad BIOS ver. 6.2

A new BIOS for the 865PE Neo2-V has been posted at http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/download/dld/spt_dld_detail.php?UID=612&kind=1.   This BIOS did not work for me and I had to revert to version 6.1.    If you plan a BIOS update, make sure you keep your previous version handy!
Symptoms: after the flash, the system would not post.  I had an 8-beep error code (video problems on AMI BIOS).  Removing either or both video cards did not help, neither did the usual (re-set BIOS by jumper, remove battery, remove RAM, disconnect HDs, etc.)  Using the recovery flash method (place BIOS file as AMIBOOT.ROM on a floppy) with version 6.2 resulted in the same issues.  Recovery flash to version 6.1 and all worked fine again.
System specs (if more details are needed I can provide them, I'm not at the system in question right now).
    865PE Neo2-V  (MS-6788)
2x 512MB RAM  (Corsair?  I would need to dig for specifrics)
NVIDIA GeForce 6800GT in AGP slot
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 in PCI
(plus a bunch of HDs and USB devices, but this problem occured even with all this removed).

I just want to ask one question: you said that after you flashed the bios to the 6.2 version, then it could not even boot. Thus could you tell me how could you flash the bios to 6.1 version?
There is a way to flash the BIOS even when the system won't boot.  For AMI BIOS (as on this board):
1- Format a floppy, and copy the BIOS file to it.
2- Rename the BIOS file to AMIBOOT.ROM
3- Put floppy in the drive.
4- Power up system while holding CTRL-HOME
5- Wait until you hear floppy drive access, then you can release CTRL-HOME
6- When you hear 4 beeps, the BIOS had been flashed from the file on the floppy.
7- Power off, reset BIOS by jumper (just to be safe) and then power up again.

I'm having exactly the same issue (extremely slow BIOS POST, after POST everything is OK), with an identical hard configuration,
On my particular research, this is the only valuable information i've found (from nvidia tech support):
    from: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=150630&st=40 (the last post)
I wanted to provide an update on this issue as it has been a while. Unfortunately this is only an update as we have not finalized our findings yet. We are still trying to obtain some of the motherboards reported in this thrad. Presently, it appears it may be due to the motherboard BIOS, not the card itself. If after examining additional motherboards, the results are the same, this means that the fix will be to ask the motherboard maker to provide a BIOS update with a fix. The fix is very simple. A register in the motherboard BIOS must be enabled which appears some may not have enabled it. Your motherboard must have Memory Type Range Register (MTRR) enabled. To check, you may do the following however this will require some technical knowledge:
    First, download the file below:
    http://nvidia.s3.amazonaws.com/msd.zip
Unzip the files contents. You will need to run the utility in pure DOS (means you will need to create a DOS boot disk and boot off of the DOS boot disk). Add "device=himem.sys" in config.sys and load smartdrv.exe in autoexec.bat in the DOS boot disk or else the boot disk will take a long time to load. Type "msd.exe" to start the program. Then press TAB and left arrow key to "System Information" and press ENTER. Press PAGE DOWN key and you will see the Item 2. "Memory Information", in the bottom of this item you can see "Physical memory cache status". That's the MTRR setting for your system. If you see A0000~D0000 is uncacheable, that mean that the motherboard BIOS does not have MTRR enabled and is likely the cause of the slow POST issue.
So the solution seems to be a bios update enabling the MTRR.
    I wish this can help...
and it would be perfect to have the problem solved soon! :D
(I'm not expert on bios development but seems to be a minor change.)
Thanks a lot for your time!
this dosent help i know that is MB issue not a graphic card coz there is same problem with ASUS MB they made some hot fix for BIOS and now everything works fine when ASUS mb BIOS its uptodate....

  • [865PE/G Neo2 Series] VCore Readings

I recently replaced my no name PSU with a Enermax 535W All in One PSU, and started overclocking. The problem is not the OC but the Vcore reading as I have set it to 1.65 in the bios but in speedfan and CPUZ it reads as 1.63. Could it be my PSU which I doubt it cause Enermax is known for its good products. I suspect that is the bios version but i have updated my bios for my 865PE to 2.5 which I believe is the newest version.  If anyone has any idea whats wrong with the Vcore please give me some advice.  P.S I have heard some time ago that MSI bios read the Vcore higher than it really is so Im not sure. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sure, look under "PC Health Status" in BIOS. You can also download > http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php] SpeedFan < which you can use in Windows.

BIOS Type  AMI® BIOS  File Size  414KB

Update Description - Add MAT support for all 865PE version .

    - Fixed CPU ratio can't set over 23x.
    Special note  ,

    do u think i could flash my 865P-Neo (MS-6742) with this ? thanks !

    Hi xzrzx,
I sorry but have to say that this NEO2PE BIOS is not for you 865P model as your mobo is only support the lower processors version with only 400/533MHz northbridge support, whereas the PE(s) have support for 400MHz(Northwood)/533/800MHz CPUs.
Stick to MSI mainboard page of your mobo's model BIOS
    All the Best... :D!!!

  • Satellite A100: Windows won't boot - Unmountable Boot Volume

My son has a Satellite A100 running Windows XP SP3. Windows doesn't get past the Windows logo screen and terminates with an +Unmoutable Boot Volume+ message.
After this has happened, the HDD password status in BIOS is +HDD password froze+. Note that the HDD does not have a user password set.
What is happening here and how is it fixed?

Well, I persevered with Recovery Console and fixed the problem with the Fixboot and Fixmbr commands. It appears that viruses had corrupted the boot sector or master boot record, making the remainder of the Windows partition unusable. Once these were repaired, all the directories and files were still intact and usable.
Interestingly, there is a hit for a similar problem on the Microsoft Windows XP help, but their solution is more complicated.

  • Bitlocker drive disappeared and cannot be accessed.

Hi everyone, I am using an INTEL 80 GB SSD as an external hard disk. However, after I bitlocker the drive, it still works fine. But, few days later, I can't access the drive at all. In file explorer, the disk drive and unlock option didn't will not appear
    at all.
In Disk Management, it shows like this
I don't mind if the data is gone. I just want the disk to work again. Can anyone help?

Yes. The actual disk size is 80GB, but in disk management it only shows 7MB
How about uninstall its driver in Device Manager, have you tried yet? In addition, please check its status in BIOS if it works normal.

  • Flash utility not working!!!! Please help.

    Hi guys,
Yesterday I tried to flash the BIOS of my 865PE-Neo2LS motherboard with the latest 2.0 version. I downloaded the 6728v20.zip file and copy its contents to a temporary directory in my FAT32 hardrive. Then I made a DOS boot diskette, booted to DOS, and cd into the temporary directory. After that I issued:
    C:\TEMP>ADSFI711.EXE A6728IMS.200
For my deep surprise the flash utility ignores the BIOS file passed as argument and instead displays its syntax. Is this a bug or what???? Anyone experiencing the same problem??

Well, it lists the commands always, even when I pass the bios file name as an argument. Maybe the problem is with the DOS boot diskette. I used rawrite to write an image file to a floppy disk. The image file I got it from http://www.freedos.org. Later today I'll try the flash utility that came with the bios version 1.9.

  • Keyboard keys different between models?

I replaced the top case on a black Macbook 2.16 Core 2 Duo model, as the keyboard and trackpad were not being recognized and were not working. I had a white top case from a broken Macbook 2.0 Core 2 Duo which works okay. Finally a working keyboard and trackpad!
I gave this Macbook to my wife, who wants to use a non-English keyboard layout. I've swapped keys on lots of different Apple portables, so it's something I'm familiar with.
The problem, though, is that I've found that they keys on 3 different Macbook keyboards snap on in a different way than on the keyboard that is now installed on my wife's Macbook.
Specifically, there are 2 small hooks on the back of the keys that hook onto the scissor mechanism under the keys. On the 3 different Macbook keyboards, these 2 small hooks are on the LEFT side of the keys (as you look at the keyboard), whereas on the keyboard on my wife's Macbook, the 2 small hooks are at the TOP of the keys.
In order to install the keys on the keyboard, I have to place them SIDEWAYS. Which makes using the keyboard a bit strange, to say the least.
Any idea when Apple started changing how the keys are installed on the keyboards on Macbooks?

rwfish, I also got a 10C drop after upgradeing to the 3.3 bios on a 865PE Neo2-PLS I recently built. I also have the hardcano, but my thermocouple is taped to the heatsink right next to the CPU. Right now I'm reading 33.6C on th HC and 44C with SpeedFan.
If I can borrow a digital camera I'll take a picture of how I routed my cables. It works real easy and keeps everything out of the air flow path.
Dcasole, Since I have the TT Xaser3 with two side fans that don't quite line up with the CPU fan, I'm having to make some modifications to you're idea. I gutted a 80mm fan and bolted it to the top side fan. The heat sink fan is a 70mm fan so I'm looking for one. Hopefully I don't have to buy one just to trash it. After I bolt the 70mm to the HS fan, I'm going to connect the two with flex hose.
How in the   are the big name PC giants selling Prescotts in their under cooled small design packages? What are they using to cool the CPU other than a side port and the stock HS? Even with this, If a buyer puts the tower in a closed cabinet the CPU is sure to cook.
