Status bar missing. How do you know if a site is secure without the status bar?

Found the status bar at bottom of page very useful. Its now missing. How can I tell the downloading progress and more importantly if a page is a secure site? Live in a rural area with slow internet service and both download speed and security is very important to me. Security is VERY important, as do a lot of banking and bill paying on line. Saw someplace in questions and answers that the "Status Bar" was dropped in version 4. It was working for me up through 4.0 Beta 4, but not in Beta 7. If I missed the news please let me know and also how do I tell if on a "secure" page now? Is there an "add on" that will give me the "Status Bar" back?

I have the same issue, i miss the fact that i cant watch my downloads in the status bar. as for the secure lock symbol, i found once i visit a secure site e.g HSBC website. a big green bar appears in the URL. any news post back.
cheers
Will

With the new version of Firefox, how do I know I am transmitting information securely, there is no lock (yellow lock icon) on the screen?

The padlock has been replaced by the site identity button, for details on using it see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Site+Identity+Button

  • How do You Link to Archived Sites, or files, on the Server via the Wiki?

I've saved an archived site to workgroup/sites/www.archivedaite.org/. What I want to be able to do is to put a link on my wiki to pick up the index page within this archived site.
I've tried to use "file:///volumes/groups/workgroup/sites/www.archivedsite.org/index.php.html". While this works fine in the browser location bar, the wiki won't accept it. By this I mean that even if I go in and edit the HTML the wiki deletes the link when you save the page.
Could I save the file to the "Sites" folder on the server for one of the userers (like the serveradmin one), as a work around?

Sadly I am having the same issue, and there is nothing in the control center that helps. In previous versions of iOS, I could easily listen to podcasts or my iTunes library though my Bluetooth headset. Double pressing the home button would bring up controls at the bottom of the iPhone screen and to the far right would be an icon where I could select the audio device I wanted. If there was a Bluetooth device synched to the phone, I could choose to listen to the music either via my phone's speakers or via the Bluetooth. This option does not exist anywhere anymore. I just hooked up my Bluetooth (finally got around to it since upgrading) and when playing music either from my phone's internal memory or via iTunes radio, it just comes out over the iPhone's speakers. There is no way to select any other option. Hopefully they'll fix this in 7.0.5.

  • How do you wipe a apple mac ibook G4 without the password?

I just bought an apple iBook G4 power PC off ebay & the seller hasn't wiped all their stuff from the hard drive. I don't have the Admin password or install/restore disk.  Can anyone tell me how I can make a clean install and make the ibook mine? Thanks.

You'd have to try and see what recourse you may have through
the eBay rules, since the computer should've had its Mac OS X
install-restore disc set, as part of the license to use the System.
A later retail DVD full install disc such as Leopard 10.5 may do
if you were to see about finding one from an Amazon reseller
or maybe someone who has the correct (retail) either Tiger or
Leopard. The system depends on what the iBook G4 has for
hardware; if the iBook G4 is an early one with smaller than an
867MHz PPC processor, it won't upgrade past Tiger 10.4.11.
Apple had been a spotty source for a generic white label DVD
replacement disc to install in supported PPC Macs, a full version
of Tiger 10.4, on one disc; and another disc, for Leopard 10.5.
The source of these had been AppleCare or Support, not retail.
And some persons at Apple were unable to verify their existence
until actually entering purchase codes into their database, as if
they were invisible, according to feedback from US vintage users
of PowerPC G4/G5 computers that did not have original discs.
So if you can locate a product Serial Number, sometimes in the
battery compartment, and call Apple Support or Applecare to
order a replacement OS X system installer on DVD, you'd need
to supply that serial number in an attempt to find out if they have
anything at all. And, also have a method of payment (a CC.)
Not sure how things differ on the England side of the Atlantic...
Here, on east side of the Pacific, things can be very different, too.
Usually grey-label discs for a specific series build model year
Mac won't do anything if attempts are made to use them in
another different Mac model. And would be an as-shipped OS.
Can't say as I have a workable resolution for your circumstance.
The PowerPC hardware limits you to no later than Leopard 10.5.8
and that should be only if the processor is faster than 867MHz. If
not, then the latest OS X is Tiger 10.4 from DVD, & these systems
get their last update via Software Update online, in a Combo file.
Perhaps you can better identify the computer, and see if a regional
Apple affiliate or specialist has access to a supported OS X installer.
That is the way to perform a complete erase, install, in most models.
Be sure if you buy a system DVD that it is a retail one and not a
disc set from a different or other Mac computer, as they rarely work.
    Good luck !

  • How do you know when the person that you've shared the file with has downloaded the file?

After the person get the email that says "I am sharing these files with you.   Click on the image below to view or download your file.", how do you know that they've viewed or downloaded the file?  Do you get an email message or is there something in the shared status that lets you know?

Thank you for your post. Although this is a feature for Buzzword, right now it's not possible to know if someone has viewed a file you've sent via Share. We are working to integrate Share/My Files/Buzzword so that this will be corrected in future.
Let me know if you have additional questions.

  • How do you know if the Maverick download is happening?

I am now trying to download Maverick .. & have been hearing a whirring sound. But it starts then stops?
    - BUT I can't tell if it's done. I've kept the "page" on the screen, and the "download" button shows grey & it shows "Downloading"
    - BUT I don't see any circles, to show anything is happening.
    - NOR can I see anything on download in Finder. I've been checking the apple icon to see & it still shows Lion, 10.7.5 that I got in 2012. I have 4GB.
So, How do you know if the Maverick download is happening - & when it's done?
Last, do you have to restart the computer? I haven't been able to find a "how to" about this download.
    Thanks

With App Store open, purchases or updates pane (can't recall which), CMD+R to reload the page, and you should see a progress bar. Should look like this:

can you have multiple Apple TV's in the same house and network? If so how do you know which one to pick from your Idevice?

Yes, there are even defaults for naming them, such as LivingRoom, Bedroom, etc, or you can even enter your own name with the remote for each AppleTV.

  • How do you know if your Iphone app is connecting to the internet?

I'm a brand new Iphone user and I have a question about apps.  I only have the smallest data plan.  I'm wondering how do you know if your app (or any app you download) once opened connects to the internet?
For instance I have a Netflix subscription.  When I hit the Netflix app is that connecting to the internet?  When I watch a movie or tv in my own que is that still on the internet?
Or what about the Kindle app or iBooks?  Is it on the internet to read?
Those are just two small examples.  I'm having a hard time figuring out which apps to download based on if they connect to the internet for their use.

As a general rule, if the app stores all of its data locally on your phone, a data connection is not needed for that app to function properly. If the app does not store data locally on your phone...streaming apps(Netflix), the built in Maps app, etc., a data connection will be required for the app to function properly. You can minimize your cellular data usage by only using such apps when connected to available WiFi. You also have the ability to turn cellular data completely off in settings: Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data>Off. Best to completely read an apps description before installing such on your phone. If a data connection is required for the app to function, it will state such in the app's description.

  • How do you know when your iphone 4s is done charging if your phone is turned off?

Does it have to be turned on to see if it's hit 100%? I have an older generation Ipod that has a battery symbol when charging and you know it's 100% charged when all the bars are full- it comes up as an icon on the screen. This is my first time charging the phone since I got it so just nervous if it's actually charging.

If you plug your iPhone in to charge, even if it is turned off, it will turn on.
However, if you turn it off during a charge, there will be no notification that it has completed its charge.

  • How do you know a hard drive is bad?

how do you know a hard drive is bad?

From the OS X "Help" system:
Check whether a disk is about to fail
You can check the health of many disks in Disk Utility. Many disks include Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T) hardware, which lets a disk test itself for potential problems.
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the disk in the list at the left.
If you see a message saying the disk has a fatal hardware error, the disk has an irreparable hardware problem that can’t be fixed by Disk Utility or any other utility that repairs software problems. Back up as much of the data on the disk as possible, and then replace the disk.
If you don’t see a message saying the disk has a hardware error but you still have problems with the disk, you can try to repair it with Disk Utility.

  • How do you know what view is available to a form?

A customer requirement that we set the a firstlogin attribute on the on one of the resources the first time a user logs into the IDM end user interface, changes their password, and provides answers for their authentication questions. The way I know that a person has done this, it that they are displayed the "End User Menu"
The problem is the accounts portion of the User view is not accessible from the End User Menu. I put the same code in the End User Form and it works.
Is there a way for me to access resource attributes from this form?
Is this the incorrect approach to solving this problem?
How do you know what view is available to a form?

Thanks, that was my problem originally. When using a fieldref I had to set the base context to variables.user i.e.
    baseContext=':variables.user'
And in workflow I had to preface variable names with the name of the object I checked the view out into.
What I really wanted to know how to have multiple views open in a form if possible. I'd like to be able to manipulate user and role objects in the same form when editing users in a specific org.

  • How do you know what version Mac OSX is on ANOTHER drive?

How do you know what version Mac OSX is on ANOTHER drive without starting that drive
and seeing the system profiler? In fact, because the drive wont start up, Now I am wondering if it is pre-intel. ? CMD-I doesn't do it. Thanks

Why mess with this? Well, I got the HDDs and the enclosure from my previous PPC, so I'd like to make use of it all without $pending again.
I don't see any problems with using the card and drives on your new Mac. Hardware is too pricey to just leave behind if you can't help it. With the new drivers I suspect you'll be able to use your drives, I just don't think you'll be able to boot from them if the interface card requires drivers. They should still be very fast storage devices, and probably reliable due to the ongoing support the vendor has provided.
I went through the same type of issue when I bought my Dual G4 1.42 Tower (upgraded from a Quadra 840AV ). Several of my devices were SCSI (I was into SCSI Wide/Fast drive arrays at the time for video capture), and I was able to use an Adaptec card for scanning for several years with Jaguar and Panther. I'd spent quite a bit of cash to ensure high quality and performance and didn't want to loose all of the investment. Eventually the SATA hard drives and other USB and Firewire replacements became so cheap and performance improved enough that loosing SCSI with Tiger was not a big deal. I do think I should get about 5 years of hardware compatibility with most products and I keep older Mac's around for dedicated services as long as they aren't a costly maintenance issue.
