Status light is blinking

How do I fix my AirPort Extreme?  The status light is blinking and I no longer have Internet access.

A persistent, flashing amber light indicates that any of the several potential conditions may require your attention:
The base station has not yet been configured because it is new, or the reset switch has been set.
You have selected a security configuration that is not recommended.
One of several other conditions, such as a disconnected Ethernet cable or invalid IP address has been detected.

If you run the AirPort Utility, it will show an amber circle on the summary page next to the area(s) causing the problem. Click on this amber circle and it should provide an explanation. Please post back your results.

  • When I plug in apple tv the status light just blinks amber and nothing appears on the screen

When I plug in my apple tv (first gen) the status light just blinks amber and nothing appears on the screen.  The status light never turns white and won't stops blinking amber.  I've tried to over ride this with the remote, resetting it and trying to revert it to the factory settings.  Is there a way to wake it up or is it a lost cause?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The system looks like it's unable to start up, this could be software but more likely hardware, either way unless it will start up there is nothing a user can do to resolve this.

  • My Apple tv status light is blinking fast - how do I troubleshoot?

my Apple TV gen 2 status light is blinking fast and I am not able to see anything from my Apple TV - how do I troubleshoot?  What I read on the Apple site is that my Apple TV has issues.  My Apple TV is hard wired to my Ethernet network.  It is connected to my TV using an HDMI cable.  It worked in the past but when I turned it on today it did not work.  I have not used it in several months and we had a bad thunderstorm here a couple weeks ago.

I'm having the same problems as you. Any solutions? This is what i'm facing
    1. No video signal at all
    2. Plugged in power cable only, there is no light
    3. Plugged in micro usb, there is flashing light

after finish installing an update, the the status light keeps blinking and a picture of the connection between the micro USB and iTunes shows up - what is this about?

The update failed - using a USB to microUSB lead (that Apple annoyingly don't include!), try to restore the AppleTV software to current version software using instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4367
Pay attention to differences in power connection depending on whether or not you have AppleTV2 or AppleTV 3.

  • I have a new Airport Extreme and an old airport express.  I am getting an amber light on the new Extreme and a green light on the Express.   I have internet no problem but the status light is blinking amber

I have a new Airport Extreme and and old airport express.  I am getting an amber status light on the Extreme and a green light on the Express.  The Extreme is blinking amber all the time.
I have internet and everything seems to be working.
I have reset and pulled the power cord on both the extreme and the internet block
How do I make it Green?

If things seem to be working OK, but the amber light is flashing......the AirPort Extreme has a message for you. To see what that might be......
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme icon
Click on the amber dot in the small window
It might be a message that a firmware update is available for your AirPort Extreme.

  • My 1st gen apple tv displays a black screen, led status light is blinking orange constant. I have tried all the owners manuel tips but it appears to have locked up. Any advise?

my apple tv 1st generation appears to have locked up. it constantly now displays only a black screen. No function reset etc from remote use.The led status is constantly blinking orange. I have tried all the manual tips etc but still blank. Any ideas anyone?
    Gary.

Same/similar thing just happened to me....two days ago or so.  Ran fine for months since going from wifi (major problems) to ethernet now.
I hadn't been on atv 1 for a few days and had it powered down.  Turned it on and it ran thru the startup video/sequence then did the ole sit on a black screen where you can hear the remote responses (say, if i hit left on the remote - the 'option not available' doink noise is made instead of the usual sound you'd get if you were moving to the left on the menu.....not sure if that description makes sense?
The 'exit' or moving out of a menu 'noise' does sound, as does the enter/moving into a menu noise.
This has happened in the past, but more when i had it set up via wi fi.
Thing is this time i left it sit on the black screen while reading the paper, and after about 5 minutes, the menu screen finally showed up.  Everything was really sluggish to start - but it was there.  But, then, i reset it to see if the sluggishness would go away, and back to the black screen after the startup video.....and then 5 minutes later, it came up.
Not sure what is going on...but did have the blinking orange light for a while during the issue.
Don't think its an age thing as it did this even when i first purchased it....
Once into a video or music it runs fine (though i did notice that every once in a while with the music playing from my itunes, it would have a second of silence mid song like it paused for a second, and then would resume as if nothing happened.....
Any ideas whats shaking with this?  Does this sound similar to your issue or am i in a different ball park.

  • Status light not blinking...

So I've been noticing that after I applied an update from Apple, whenever I sleep my Imac, the status light doesn't do that soft blinking thing anymore. Rather, it just stays at a constant intensity. I was wondering if any of you have had this happen and if its something to worry about. Thanks!

I don't think this was caused intentionally by an Apple update!
For one, I faithfully apply all updates from Apple, both software and firmware and this was not "added" to my computer. ( I did both the 1.0.0 and the 1.0.1 firmware updates.)
Two, Sappirance, the status light (or as Apple refers to it, the Power LED) being on constantly when the Mac was sleeping, instead of pulsing or blinking, would not have solved your friend's problem if he thought the light was too bright at night, it would have made it worse.
I think it is what myhighway is suggesting! (Duh, why didn't I think of that!!)

  • Apple TV status light blinking white

My apple TV status light is blinking white and the TV gets no signal.  I have re-booted the apple tv and it gives me the sign to plug it into iTunes.  I cannot do that as it has no USB connection so I am bit lost.  I also have no idea how to tell which  generation Apple TV I have.  I have had it for a few years and finally had a reason to use it.  I am pretty sure it is a 2G, but I am not sure.  It worked when I initially set it up for a few minutes then required a software upgrade and everything went downhill after that.  Any suggestions?  Is it garbage?

I cannot do that as it has no USB connection
Yes it does.  Its on the back.
The upgrade process failed for some reason.  It just needs to be connected to iTunes via a USB cable so iTunes can manually install the firmware.

  • Status light problem

I'm not sure if anyone else has had this problem, or if there is even a fix for it but here goes. On my 8330 I have this strange problem with the blinking status light. Whenever I turn my phone off (at night, or to recharge), then turn it back on the status light will work for a while and then stop. I have to go into options/screen (or whatever it's called) and change the status light option to "off", then save my change (which by the way makes the status light start blinking again), then change it back to "on" then save the change and all worked fine until I power it off (at which point I have to go though the whole convoluted process again). This is not that big of a deal (just kind of a pain in the butt to have to do all the time). Any help would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forums!
On the status light what color are you referring to?
    Green is the coverage indicator
    Blue is Bluetooth
    Red is the message indicator
Amber is the low battery/charge indicator.
    Thanks,

  • MSI GS70 : Battery Light Indicator Blinking Amber

Hey everyone,  my MSI GS70's battery status light started blinking amber a few days ago. It blinks amber whenever the battery is fully charged with or without the adapter plugged-in. The battery is still working, and the blinking amber light goes away when the battery level drops from 100%.
When the battery level is at 99%, and I plug in the adapter, it starts charging the battery. I remember the battery doesn't get charged when it's at this level.
FYI I hardly use my laptop on battery, always using with the adapter plugged-in, so I'm very confused!!
    Thanks.

Unfortunately, you are describing the symptoms of an AirPort Extreme with a failing (or failed) internal power supply.
As a last resort, try a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme as follows:
Power off the AirPort by pulling the power cord
    Wait a minute or two
Hold in the reset button first, and keep holding it in for an additional 8-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back into the AirPort
Release the reset button and allow a full minute for the AirPort to restart
Now try to configure the AirPort again.  If you continue to see the same symptoms as before, the AirPort will need to be replaced.

  • FBUS-HSE/H1 not detecting 100Mbps and status light blinking green

I had the HSE/H1 connected to my network, but it decided to go crazy on me and drop off the map. I know the IP Address of the unit, but am unable to connect with it anymore. I did a factory reset on the unit, but am unsure if that resets the IP address as well. If that is the case what is the best way to force an IP address on the unit? The status light blinks green at a rather fast rate as well. I can add the ethernet interface board in the interface fonfiguration utility, but can not add the hse/h1 LD since it just sits there and listens for the board forever. I hope it is an easy fix and not a matter of the unit died on me.
    Thanks
    Kyle

The blinking status LED indicates that the linking device is in standby state. The linking device will be assigned an IP address automatically through DHCP.
Please check whether the linking device and the host PC are in the same subnet. Otherwise, the linking device will not be detected.

  • Mac Pro 3.1 status light is always on

    Hello
    I have a Mac Pro 3.1
Since last week I have a problem, and could't yet found the solution. Sometimes (most of the times, actually) the Mac Pro doesn't boot and just stops after the chime (just as it was powered off). But what I found strange is that the white status light is always on (not blinking, always on) from the moment I connect the power strip.
I've run multiple times the Apple Service Diagnostic tests (running then again at this moment) and there´s absolutely no error reported.
I've changed memory, video card slot position, everything I could think off, but still haven't found a solution.
    Thank you for your help

I will try the UPS as soon as I can get one working (it seems my trusted Ellipse Max 1500 isn't working anymore). But how can it explain the fact that the light always stays on?
Another thing. In one of the last reboots to seemed that the Mac Pro couldn't find the startup disk. Past the chine nothing happened. After I started again with the alt key pressed and chooses the correct disk it appears to be working (the light problem keeps the same).
So, maybe there's a problem with the SMC, could it be? Yes, I did the SMS (and PRAM) reset, but the problem keeps the same
