Status report time machine backup by e-mail

Hello,
i'm using Leopard server (workgroup mode) and want to know if there is a way to get a time machine backup status report by e-mail
It's important for us to know every day if time machine was able to backup ok or if there are problems.
thanks for suggestions
Marco

Although you can restore messages from a Time Machine snapshot within the Mail application, it generally won't work with messages that were saved by an older version of Mail. In that case, you have to use an alternative method.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
~/Library/Mail/V2
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder selected. Inside that folder are subfolders representing your Mail accounts. The names refer to the email addresses you use. Decide which ones you want to restore messages from.
Enter Time Machine and scroll back to the snapshot you want. Select the account folders you want and then select  Restore ... to... from the action menu (gear icon) in the toolbar of the snapshot window. Restore the folders to the Desktop, not to their original location.
From the Mail menu bar, select
File ▹ Import Mailboxes...
Import from the mailboxes in the folders you restored to the Desktop. The imported messages will appear in a new mailbox. Move the ones you want to keep wherever you like and delete the rest. Then delete the folders on the Desktop.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Where can I find mail messages I saved in the time machine backup

I am trying to retrieve e-mail messages I had saved in folders from my time machine backup. Where do I find them ?

Put the icon in the menu bar (if not already there) ->System Preferences->Time Machine->Show Time Machine status in menu bar.
Then, while in Mail, click the icon, and select "Enter Time Machine"
Locate the emails in Time Machine, then select Restore.

  • Restore Mail from Time Machine backup

Hi, I have a time machine backup from my MacBook which unfortunately crashed and is now resting in Mac heaven. The problem now is that I just bought a new iMac and so wanted to get my mail settings and messages to my new computer without getting all the gunk from the Macbook along. Please could somebody help me out as to which files from where or if there is an easier way to get this done.
    Thanks a lot

The settings are stored in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist and the messages should be in ~/Library/Mail.

  • Time machine backup error OS Status error 2

Time machine has been backing up to newly replaced Time Capsule with no Time Machine issues until today.
There have been a few Time Capsule 'amber flashing light' moments, solved with a reset.
But after one such reset this morning, despite the green light being steady, the error message stated in the title above has appeared.
Time capsule is visiblle and properly configured, according to Airport Utility.
On the menu bar, the Tme Machine logo is grey, and states "Time Machine is not configured".
In the Time Machine preferences window, have re set the Time Capsule as the backup disk (several times).
Time Capsule green light is on, and I can hear it whirring into action when I select it as back up disc.
    The complete message reads:
Time Machine can’t access the backup disk “(my name) Time Capsule”. Time Machine backup OS status error 2.
    I am Running OSX 10.6.7
    Time Capsule 1 TB
Less than one month old, and the second time calsule replacement form Apple.
Can anyone please shed any light on this?
    Many thanks
    Lorraine

Is the NAS designed to work with Time Machine, because Time Machine isn't designed to work with a NAS.

I cannot load Maverick on my iMac HD.  It reports that my HD is used for Time Machine backups and will not load to that drive.  I do not use this drive for backups.  I use an external 1 TB WD My Book for backups as well as Super Duper Backups. Can anyone offer advice.   Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You have got the "Backups.backupdb" folder in the root level of your hard drive. This is the folder used by Time Machine to save backups to, and the OS X Mavericks installer thought that your hard drive is being used to store Time Machine backups
To fix this, open a Finder window, select the Go menu (on the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and type:
Then, delete "Backups.backupdb" and empty the Trash. Finally, open the Mavericks installer from the Applications folder and follow the steps

  • How do I retrieve my Mail files from a Time Machine backup?

I reformatted my iMac hard rive because I was having all kinds of problems with speed and crashing.  I did a Time Machine backup and then reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled Yosemite.  I then reinstalled fresh apps and all my files.  I just don't know where to find my email files on the backup.  I don't even know where to find them on my current system.  In older OS X systems, they were easily located under your user name.  Where'd they go?  Please help.

Open Finder then your user Library. You can get to your user Library from Finder/Go/Go To Folder and type ~/Library
Next, open the Mail folder; then click on the Time Machine icon in the Menu Bar and Enter Time Machine. This should open Time Machine to your ~/Library/Mail folder that you just opened. Now, you should be able to copy your V2 folder for what ever date that should have all your mailboxes.

  • E-mail error Time Machine backup

My old iMac crashed - so I bought me a new iMac 27" 1 day ago.
I used Time Machine backup to transfer from external harddisk, and everything works well, exept MAIL.
All my 17000 mails got transfered, but when I start up the MAIL program, I can only see the MAIL icon on DOCK and MENU at top.
Non of the windows in the MAIL program are showing!
All my accounts have green light, so they work.
If I check for emails, the new one is showing on the icon (DOCK).
If i try "show window" - the program crash.
    What to do?
I have try recovery - but still not visuable.
How do I delete MAIL program, and reinstall?
I google and found out that to many mail can be a problem when transfer from Time Machine backup.
But say nothing about what to do.
    Thanks.

  • Time Machine backups of Mail: no email messages

I have a problem with Time Machine backups of emails. If I open the Mail app and enter Time Machine, it shows no emails (for one account) and only a couple  of very old email messages for another. There are actually gigabytes of emails in both accounts. I wonder what's wrong, since the files from ~/Library/Mail seem to be backed up by Time Machine. Can I make Time Machine show backups of individual messages? Mail app is setup to access Gmail with IMAP.
    Thanks

I just noticed this myself and I think I know what might be going on. Mail no longer keeps seperate copies of all the email that is in each folder, including the Inbox. It keeps one copy of the email in the gmail All Mail folder and then uses tags to make that email show up in the differnet folders but it does not make an actual copy in the folders. So Time Machine is backing up the actual email file that is in All Mail but as far as it is concerned there are no emails in any of the other folders.
This does not explain why there still might be old emails showing up in the folders, I have this happening too. Maybe it's an artifact from the conversion from the old Mail to the new Maverics Mail. I have also not tried to restore an email yet so I don't know if the folder metadata is being backup up or not. I hope it is otherwise all I can do is restore the All Mail folder but I would have to manually put email back into the correct folders.

  • How to re-activate 'Mail' after complete successful Time machine re-installation except 'Mail' backup keeps getting stuck?

How to re-activate 'Mail' after complete successful Time machine re-installation except 'Mail' backup keeps getting stuck?

Trying to re-instal my email history the 'Mail Message Import' dialogue screen says: 'Mail needs to import your messages. This might take a few minutes. You won't be able to use Mail until the import is finished'.
The problem is: after importing 5,000 messages it stops and the 'Time remaining' only keeps adding up to many hours (17 hours). There are almost 80,000 email messages in my Time machine backup.
How to get this working? I am even prepared to give up my email history if i can only get my 'Mail' application working again.

  • I need to backup my mails from a time machine backup disk from a powerbook leopard to an IMac snow Leopard...can I do this?

    Hi everybody...
I need to backup my complete history of emails. I have a time machine backup disk I used in a powerbook intel, second generation with Leopard OS. Now I have an Imac of 24 inches, with Snow Leopard OS. Can I use that backup disk (TM) to put the mails that used to be in the powerbook into my IMac?
My original powerbook is broken, so I cant do anything there...

You should be able to find and restore emails that were on the old Mac via Time Machine.  Emails that were on the server, not the Mac, won't be there, of course.

  • How do I retrieve mails from a time machine backup of a different computer?

I had to reformat my computer because of a trojan file I couldn't eradicate, and I didn't want to restore files from a time machine backup for fear of reinstalling the trojan. After reinstalling OS Maverick, my MacBook Pro from early 2009 is now back to good performance. However, I would like to retrieve my old archived mails from 2009 onwards, excluding the present year, of course. I know those mails are there, but how can I access them?
    Thank you.

  • Manually migrating mail from Snow Leopard to Mavericks via Time Machine backup

Just performed a clean install of Mavericks 10.9.2 onto my computer and I would now like to manually bring in my mail from my time machine backup.  Can you tell me what files to copy over and in exactly what folder they should go?  P.S.  I don't want to use migration assistant because Mail is the only thing I care about carrying over.  Thank you.

If the two machine's have two different username/password combos, you cant' do what you want. The only solution is to create a duplicate account on the MB, mimicking the one on the iMac and then copy the Mail folder into that user's Library folder. Then, use that as your primary user account, deleting the the useless other one.

  • HT4191 Can I restore my NOTES mailbox to MAIL from a Time Machine backup?

I am new to the world of discussion so please bear with me.  In trying to resolve a syncing problem between the iMac and iPad, I seem to have somehow deleted all the Notes we had stored.  Can I restore from a Time Machine backup?

In theory - yes. The backup should restore all of the iPad settings - including mail settings.
If you backup the iPad with regularity, you do not need to resort to Time Machine. The backups should still be on your Mac.
    iTunes: About iOS backups
iOS: How to backup (and restore from a backup)
A very quick rundown on how to restore from a backup. But read the articles above.
Turn off auto sync first. Launch itunes and go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices. Check the box at the bottom - Prevent iPods, iPhones .... you will see what I mean. Click OK . Quit iTunes.
Connect the iPad to the Mac and launch iTunes.
Right Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
    Select - Restore from backup
    Then sync with iTunes.

  • Time machine backup of mail.

    Hi,
Does Time machine backup mail? If so, which folder is it backed up to?
    Thanks
    Glen

Bring the Mail browser window forward, then select Enter Time Machine from the Time Machine menu, which is represented by a clock icon in the menu bar. If you don't have that menu, select
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Time Machine ▹ Show Time Machine in menu bar
Scroll back in the time-travel view to the most recent snapshot containing the messages you want to restore. Select the messages, then click Restore. The messages will be restored to a new mailbox. From there you can move them wherever you like.
