Status stuck in computer to computer

My biege G3 runs 10.2.8 at 400 mhz .
My airport status bar shows computer to compter - so I can't join my wireless network.
I can't figure out how or what I did to change it. Much less how to put it back. The iBook shows "Staus: not available" but works, desktop says "Status: Computer to Computer"?
My iBook 10.2.8 accesses just fine as this post shows.
Please help.

No clue what it said before , sorry. I use a belkin pci card in the desk top w/ dLink 624 wireless router.
I don't do computer to computer stuff. My old hard drive died recently. But I replaced it and had my desktop up and running on the network for a couple days, so I don't think that matters.
I'm so confused.

"Using the AirPort status menu to control AirPort
You can display the status of your AirPort connection in the menu bar. You can use the AirPort status menu to switch between AirPort networks, turn your AirPort Card on or off, open Internet Connect, or create a Computer-to-Computer network.
If you want to create a Computer-to-Computer network, make sure the "Allow this computer to create networks" checkbox is selected in the AirPort pane of Network preferences.
To display AirPort status in the menu bar:
Open Internet Connect [Application in the "Applications" Folder] and click the AirPort icon in the toolbar.
    Select the checkbox.
Four signal bars appear in the AirPort status menu. The more bars that are black, the higher the signal quality."

Hello m.goo, and a warm welcome to the forums!
To eject the Disc, hold the Mouse button down, (or what passes for it on a Laptop), while powering up, if you also hold the Option key down at the same time it should eject & give you a chance to insert your install disc & wait for it to shw as a Boot option.
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Tiger Mac OS X Install disc , then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, *you must select your language first.)*
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.

  • G3 stuck on computer icon screen

I have an original iMac G3 - the one with the tray loader for discs not the slot.
It will turn on and get past the screen with the folder icon and then goes to the grey screen with the computer icon in the middle and then gets stuck there, seemingly forever. It won't let me boot from a CD and pressing shift or anything else while startup does nothing for it either. The keyboard works for a brief while, the caps key blinks for a second and I can use my mouse and arrow for a while until the that computer icon comes on.
I haven't used it in a while but it's been treated pretty well.
    Can anyone help?

Did you ever upgrade the hard drive so that it is larger than 8GB?
What version of Mac OS is installed? How much RAM is installed?
    You can try resetting PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If the iMac was disconnect from power for an extended time, the PRAM (clock) battery may be drained. It is located on the logic board and looks like this
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/BAA36VPRAM/
If you have a voltmeter, you can test the one you have currently - it should be between 3.3 and 3.7 volts. A weak or dead PRAM battery can cause odd startup issues. I read a few reports saying that removing the battery allowed the iMac to start up, although PRAM settings were lost between power ups.

  • Can't follow the Repair Status of my computer.

    Hej,
Recently, i had a hardware problem with my computer, so i called the support center.
He took my informations (and he make mistakes ... ) and send me a guy to take my computer.
I packed my computer and the guy took it with him (PostNord company).
He just gave me a paper with : Name, Reference, Date and Parcel ID. But it think its related to the shipment company and not Lenovo.
Also on the phone, he told me to write a number, which is the same as the Reference (that i mentionned earlier).
The Shipment is well arrived in Germany, but since ... no news !
I have no warranty case and i saw on the shipment company that he mades a mistake on my email adress !!!!
So i have no news on my phone, they can't join me by email .... GREAT !
My computer is gone the 20/02/2015, arrived in Germany the 24/02/2015.
That all that i know. and i can't follow the repair status on the website because he didn't provide me any Case ID.
    (ex : 800xxxxxxx).
Can someone from the support help me ! change the adress or do something... I worry that my computer could be definitely lost ...
Even if they delivers it to the nearest postoffice to my place, i wouldn't be aware of it, and i couldn't take it because i have no number ...
The Service Number is : 704281781. But i really don't know how and where i could use it.

  • Lightroom 5 installation stuck at "computing space requirements"

I am trying to install a new copy of Lightroom 5 from DVD, but the installation process gets stuck at the following screen:
It never gets beyond that point.  I have tried leaving it for up to 30 minutes but nothing changes.  If I click "cancel" nothing happens and I then have to use task Manager to close the installation programme.
I am using Windows 8 on a new Dell PC that far exceeds all the minimum specifications.
    Any ideas?  Thanks.

I have now managed to install Lightroom 5.  It seems my computer needed to reboot to install some Windows updates.  I am guessing this was the cause of the problem.  I tried to restart the compuiter but it hung for ages on "restarting".  Eventually I switched off the power and restarted, then tried the install again and it worked fine.  I hope this may help anyone else with the same problem.

  • Cd stuck in computer

i am not sure if this is the right forum if not please direct me.. i just bought an imac before christmas with snow leopard.
i put one of those pics cd's (from walmart) in and now it won't do anything... won't read the cd but what is worse is i can't get it out of the imac. i have gone to finder and tried to drag to trash which i did but it is still in there. on the desktop there is an icon and i have tried to drag it to the trash but the computer hangs up. now when i go to finder it isn't showing the cd at all.
maybe i stuck it in backwards ??? or it just doesnt like it.
    please help!!! thanks in advance.

Yeah computers can be frustrating. But don't let it get to you. There is always a chance the you might get the one that is defective but anything can be fixed and apple is very good about helping you. But as for your problem. I have had a similar issue before. I just let it set for awhile then came back to it. The method I found to get that pesky CD out was to do a restart as everyone said but what I did after that was as soon as the Apple logo appears on the screen hold F11 or eject, I cant remember. Eject seems like to obvious choice but I think it was F11. Just hold the button and the Disk will eject before the mac fully restarts. It has always worked for me. Next time, you can also try that. Good luck.

I tried again with the firewall and anitivirus turned off, with no luck.

When I watch videos through Imovie or on the internet, the volume is up but the mute symbol is on. I can't get any sound, the volume buttons don't work nor does the mute button.

  • Stuck in Computer-to-Computer network

    Hi,
I know this has been asked here before, but I cannot find a solution or answer: I have a Airport network with DHCP, which is also selected as the preferred network. However, occasionally, my new iMac connects to a computer-to-computer network of the same name, which I never created. Then I cannot connect to the internet and I also cannot switch back to the "real" Airport network. I found a workaround but it's cumbersome: Switch to the "real" network, then turn Airport off and back on once.
This never happened on my previous Mac. Does anybody know how and why this happens?
    Thanks,
    Arnd

    Chris,
maybe I was a bit unclear. It seems my iMac sees my network as a 'computer-to-computer' network, although it isn't. There is no other computer. The Airport menu has two entries by the same name in that case, one being the 'computer-to-computer' netweork. After I did my little trick, the 'computer-to-computer' list entry is gone.
It's just a wild guess but it seems like the iMac connects to itself (there's no other computer here). Also, the IP it then picks is not within the range I defined in my router settings. When I switch manually to the 'real' network, it doesn't assign itself a new IP. Therefore I cannot connect to the internet. Only after I switch Airport off and back on, the iMac assigns itself a new (correct) IP and the internet connection works.
    Hope this makes more sense.
    Thanks,
    Arnd

  • Firefox downloads but then will not unpack without administrator status on home computer nor as existing user

I uninstalled "Firefox" having used it for years, after accidentally adding a taskbar I did not want.
On attempting to re-load the "Firefox" downloads straightforwardly but then comes up with an unfamiliar screen.
    This says that I may not have the permissions to access all of "Firefox" features so to take a choice of;
    (a) Running opening of Firefox as existing user,
    or
    (b) Running Opening "Firefox" as an Administrator asking for a password.
Neither choice starts the unpacking of downloaded software, the computer just goes quiet.
This is my home computer and I have never been asked this before, and have no special restrictions.
Any suggestions? I have downloaded "Firefox" via Google Chrome and Internet Explorer with same results.
    Thank you.

And I still have a bricked iPhone 4

  • Stuck in "computer scheduled to sleep" loop

I had previously setup an automatic shutdown of the machine at midnight every day, but tonight I was watching a film past that and a notifcation popped up:
"This computer has been scheduled to go to sleep automatically"
    Screenshot http://al3x.me/KVtt
Trouble is, I cannot get rid of this window. Every time I cancel a new one pops up and the 10 minute timer resets. I click sleep and when it wakes the message is still there. I can't interact with OS X at all because the popup forces focus everytime it looses it (I had to take that screenshot remoted it from my laptop!).
I've tried holding the power button down, but on restart the message still pops up, I've tried zapping the PRAM on boot, still no joy.
I don't know what else to try, I can't access any of the menus or system preferences because of the force focus and SSH isn't turned on so I can't kill it remotely.
    HELP!

This is a temporary fix I'm sure but this is what I just did to stop the problem.  I hope Apple will fix it asap though.
After trying all the usual options  - even going into Safe Mode - s on restart - it still kept popping up and looping.   The problem is clearly in the EnergySaver but the usual way of reaching it was not working because everything I tried with icons flickered and would not stay up.  So I tried opening the Finder and working my way through folders.    Main hard drive folder/System/Library/PreferencePanes/EnergySaver.prefPane  and clicked on it.   I turned off all scheduling and also set everything to never sleep. I then locked it down to prevent changes.  It then allowed me to cancel the blasted thing.  I don't know if I needed to be that extreme but I have a ton of work to do tomorrow and I am not taking any chances.
    I hope this helps.
    Diane
