Staying organized in the FCP browser and the filesystem
Hi-
Quick question about project organization. I typically tend to keep FCP's browser synchronized with the filesystem, so that the exact folder and filename structure exists in both places. I shoot DSLR, at quantities that don't really require offline storage. So there is nothing "scratch" about my "Capture Scratch". (And boy do I hate that it's called that.) I store media in the project directory, organized by scene and shot, and change capture scratch preferences for each project to reflect this. When a project is finished, the project folder becomes the permanent media archive that gets offloaded to storage for safekeeping.
As such, I just can't imagine having a giant pile of files in my project folder called "MVI_9073.mov" that do not reflect the names and bin structure in FCP's browser. I try to keep everything navigable and readable at the filesystem level.
I try to plan ahead and move items from the filestyem to the browser as I'm going to want them. I do this before I do any editing, so it only gets done once. But that's not always possible when things change mid-project, or on smaller projects where I edit as I go. If I have to reorganize a large bin, I'll sometimes even delete it from the browser entirely, reorganize in the filesystem, and drag it back in, to ensure they're they same. Needless to say it would be a big help if there was an option to "keep the media folder organized", as there is for example in iTunes when reorganizing artists and albums.
Does anyone else work this way, and/or is there a general consensus about how this should be done?
Thanks!

FCP's file management is in desperate need of an overhaul.
It was even worse before they introduced Media Manager. It would be great if something like MM was also attached to the front end, possibly grafted right into L&T so we could manage media on the fly based on the needs of the project.
Being able to export a self contained clip directly back into a sequence seems like a no-brainer to me but it's still not here either.
I'm confident that things will continue to improve.

Good points. Adobe's products have the "export-to-import" feature for a l-o-n-g time. Print to DVD, too. There's a very logn list of stuff we want to see changed or fixed in FCP before marketing heaps more functions on top of the flaws. We'll see.
We've been wondering about the media database behind FCP since v1. Many of us have remained confident that would improve ever since. My evangelism is long gone; FCP's just my favorite editing tool these days. I remain dispassionately hopeful.

When i turn on my macbook a box appears telling me i need to restart my computer (in different languages) and in order to do so i have to press on the off button for a lil while. Even after doing this the same box appears and it never restarts correctly. This box appears every single time. I rarely turn my computer off. I just place it on sleep mode and restarts it only when i get prompted to. I brought it to genius and they couldnt figure out what the problem is so i was told it needed to be shipped to get fixed. I didnt have anything backed up. All i want saved are the pictures because i went to 2 events where i was the assigned photographer and i didnt get to save it to an external memory. Genius said that when shipped i cant give instructions like make sure to save the pictures and if they are unable to, call me if they should go on with the process. I was wishful thinking that to fix the problem they might not even have to touch the pictures memory part. I brought my MBP back home hoping it will miraculously starts and id be able to back it up but now all it does when i turn it on is the screen remains gray with the apple symbol and the circle timer below. The screen stays this way even if i leave it on for hours. Please help me fix this!!! cant i really specify to the technicians at apple to please make sure not to erase the pictures? Is there no other way to turn on my mac? I only need it to work ones.
There is no limit to the number of times you can re-install Office on the same computer.
You can activate by telephone:

i tried to soft reset my ipod touch with the top button and the screen button. it turned off and then went to the blue screen with the apple like it should. however, it now just stays on that screen. it has a sort of clock looking thing at the bottom of the apple that does not move either. it has stayed on this screen for over 4 hours. i also can not hard reset it in itunes. i am not really goood at this sort of thing. does anyone have this problem or a possible solution? thanks

Frozen or unresponsive iPod touch
The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart.. Reset.. Restore...
Try this First... You will Not Lose Any Data...
Turn the iPod Off... ( if it isn’t already )
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear and then Disappear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... (But can take Longer...)
Release the Buttons...
Turn the iPod On...
If that does not help... See Here:

I went to update my ipod touch and it said it may take an hour. so i left it plugged in over night. in the morning the ipod was frozen. it had the apple logo and the loading bar. i reset the ipod and it stays at the same screen. i just restored it, reset it again, and restart my computer, but everytime it turns on it stays on that screen with the logo and loading bar. how do i fix it?
Were all the apps bought under the same Apple ID? For example if a husband and wife share the same computer but have different apple ID's what he buys won't play on her iPad and vice versa. However if they shared the same Apple id for both devices then any compatible apps would transfer and work on both.

This is a medical records system, cloud based. I use Firefox to get into the system, but any browser would work. Other than this problem, Firefox works fine (better than IE, in my opinion).
Patient demographics include their email, which is hyperlinked and should go right to Outlook (my default email program). This works in IE, but nothing happens on the click when using Firefox as the browser.
I queried Practice Fusion, which replied: In regards to your previous question about the email hyperlink in the patient information, it looks this is not something that can be fixed on our end right now. It is the web browsers' responsibility to handle these types of links, and there seems to be something lost in the communication between the Flash engine and the browser. I apologize for any inconvenience.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.See if this helps you:

After the Firefox update this week (Sept 7?) links from emails won't open. I get an error message. So I've temporarily set IE as my default browser, and the links work.
Hi everyone, I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I have been very very frustrated by this problem. [I could not create new windows, and anything that opens new windows, such as trying to see what Add-ons you have etc would not work]. I read about changing screen alignment to the top... I have one screen so the option does not exist. The above messages would not fix this problem. I searched hard and did find a solution in the end. I read stuff about removing Add-ons until the problem is fixed, but its simply not the case.
First of all open Firefox. next go to options: Help --- 'Restart with Add-ons disabled'. Tick the box for add-ons, restart firefox. Next go to Tools --- Add-ons. Next (In the Add-ons Manager' click on 'Plugins' on the left hand side pane. Look for the small blue writing that says 'Check to see if your plugins are up to date'.
Now notice it should say 'Missing Flash'. "For your safety, Firefox has disabled your outdated version of Flash. Please upgrade to the latest version". I followed this, reinstalled Flash and it now works as it always did, no problems. For people where the above fix didn't work, try this one out. Hope it helps people!

while browsing suddenly the system crashed and the bottom panel says " stopped".When closed and re-opened, I got a prompt that says firefox is still running and i have to close to open again or have to restart the computer but it doesn't work
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== just happenedYou get message "firefox is still running" and computer restart doesn't help you. Try the advice below.
Make sure Firefox isn't running (end firefox.exe process in Task Manager or restart computer)
Find your profile folder
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default
find file "parent.lock" in it and delete it (the file is empty, its function is to signify to Firefox whether it's already open or not).
Then try to open Firefox again. Will it start or not? What will it say? -
i type an add. the one in the bar is the one i want, the prefill list lists similar. if my mouse goes over the list, this idiot fkn browser picks the one my cursor went over, even when i reclick the add bar and the add shown there is not the one from the prefill list.
Look, many of us long time users of Firefox ''(12 years for me)'' feel pretty much the same as you do about Australis on the Desktop. I have tested and used the Australis UX Nightly builds from the days right after Firefox 4.0 was released; so Firefox 29 holds no surprises for me.
The best that anyone here in the Firefox Support forum can do is to offer advice on how to modify Firefox 29 or to mention which extensions you can install to to fix what you don't like about the changes. Beyond that, I suggest that you use the Feedback page to let Mozilla know how you feel. <br />https://input.mozilla.org/en-US/feedback
"Bad design" ''(in your opinion)'' or not - use it as is, fix what you don't like, or switch to a different browser. Mozilla isn't going to dump Australis over user complaints, even if it would drag Firefox to its' grave. -
Help if you can!
I have been having an on going problem with Aplle TV. I have the Firefox browser because the Internet Explorer would not work. The Apple tech suggested this may be part of the problem The latter browser would not download during my recent upgrade to computer. I am unable to connect my apple TV . I have the same password on my computer and the Apple Tv but no connection takes place. I am lost in an electronic jungle it would appear. I keep getting the same message when I attempt to connect - error # 37. Any suggestions! The Apple Tv did however work for a while in spite of the Firefox browser.
NormanNorman, tv doesn't connect to a browser, Firefox or Safari - rather
it relates to iTunes. Both tv and iTunes accounts require your ID.
If you are logged in to both iTunes and your tv with your ID you
can then activate Home Sharing of your iTunes Library, Select
photos to share, etc.
All best, Tom -
I created an iMovie with photos, music and titles; shared it with the media browser and burned it on a DV+RDL. The disc will play on my MacBook Pro, but it will not play on my Samsung Blu-ray Disc Player or a smaller portable DVD player. Why?
Probably because they don't accept that media.
Try using Verbatim DVD+DL (if your project exceeds 2 hours) or Verbatim DVD-R if it doesn't. -
When I open a new tab, an unwanted website opens instead of my desired home page. THIS IS ONLY AN ISSUE WITH NEW TABS; (opening the web browser AND clicking on the home button frings me to my desired home page.)
I have attached the url of the unwanted site.Use this add-on [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/custom-new-tab/ '''Custom new tab'''].

Can you explain in detail what you did?
Do any other shsre destinations complete? If not, do you get the same error message? -
FCP X deleted about 2/3 of events to a project and the project. I uploaded the project to vimeo from FCP X, and the next day when I tried to use FCPX, they were gone, the events are gone from fcp and my ext hd, the project is still on the ext hd, but it won't recognize in FCP X even though my ext HD shows in the project tab. anybody any clue how to bring it back?
Thanks for the reply Andy.
No, I don't have identical projects on a second drive, only saving to the movies folder on internal HD. The files and media save there fine, but fcp doesn't seem to recognise them the next day, just opens with one new untitled event and no projects.
I have tried saving to en external HD tonight and will see if the problem happens again with this set up when I restart tomorrow.
But I should be able to save to internal HD, so something is going wrong...

I get redirected to unwanted web sites during searches from the browser ONLY, never from the toolbar. Is this the same malware problem as discribed for redirects from BOTH the browser and the toolbar?
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== was happening with Internet Explorer, continues with FirefoxDid you do a malware check?
Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.
You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database.
