STB Entering Standby Mode By Itself

Every few hours when our two televisions are not in use the SD STBs enter standby mode their own and display a screensaver.  The screensaver has been repeatedly been recorded by our two TiVo DVRs instead of programs.  The STBs are using system 1.7
Can the STBs be set to NEVER enter standby mode?  Would requesting new STBs make any difference?
This problem was reported by other users in April but no solution was ever posted.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Ok, we too have had this intermittent problem for weeks now!  A new FIOS STB did not solve the problem.
I think I found the solution but had to leave for Christmas Holidays before I could prove it!
I believe the problem lies with the connection between the two; TIVO and FIOS.
The issue:  your Standard Definition TIVO box is trying to record High Definition channels.
The signal is unable to complete so it drops and the FIOS box shuts off.
You most likely have not deselected the High Definition channels from your TIVO channel list AND have TIVO suggestions turned on.  TIVO suggestions typically run when nothing else is set to record (often late night hours).
Try the following and please let me know how you make out!  I've been searching the web for days and have seen this problem repeatedly but no viable solution.
Go to:
1. Tivo Central
Messages & Settings
Settings
Channels
Channel List
...Page down and deselect each HD channel
2.  Messages & Settings
Settings
Recording
Tivo Suggestions...change to No
I am not sure if only using option 1 above will work, but you could try it if you prefer to use TIVO Suggestions.
You might also want to deselect channels that are not on your cable line-up.
The reason I think this is the problem; on our first 'standby' program recorded overnight, the initial split second on the recording was a valid channel-the picture was visible.  As soon as the TIVO Suggested recording changed channels to the HD channel, the picture dropped, the Not-subscribed HD message appeared then the Standby message came up.
Good Luck, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and let me know how you make out!

This is usually an indication that your headphones are not plugged ALL the way in.  The white part of the headset should be flush with the body of the Nano and no silver from the headphone plug should still be seen.

  • IPhone 4S suddenly enters Recovery Mode by itself?

    Hi,
I need help recovering data from my wife's iPhone. It's an iPhone 4S, running iOS 5.0, un-jailbroken. She clicked on the app 'Dragon Story' and her phone went into recovery mode. Thing is, she has never backed up the iPhone since purchasing it in Oct 2011 even after numerous reminders from me. I know, I should have just done it for her. What saddens me is that we have lost all photos of our now 3 month old baby (2000+ photos).
It has never been jailbroken before, but I tried using Redsn0w, iRecovery, Recboot to kick it out of recovery mode but nothing works. Doing a hard reset just boots it back into recovery mode. Can someone please help me interpret the iRecovery log below and see what's wrong with it?

Can we recover the photos without doing a restore, and if we HAD to do a restore, can we recover the photos afterwards using third party software? Any suggestions and advice is most welcome. I think my wife has learnt her lesson, she was bawling her eyes out last night for losing all of our baby's pictures. Please help!
p.s. From what I've gathered, I can't kick it out of recovery mode because a bootrom exploit has not been found for the 4S. Should I wait unti one is released, or do you reckon it will never happen?
    Thanks in advance guys.

Nevermind I was able to get out of recovery thanks to tinyumbrella

  • Curve 8900 Keeps going in Standby Mode

    Hi,
My Curve 8900 keeps going into Standby mode by itself even when nothing has been touched.  Gives message "Entering Standby mode.  Press the Mute key again to exit Standby mode."  Looks like others have posted similar problems.  The device is quite new but without warranty.
    Thanks.

Mine keeps going into standby too. What a piece of **bleep** all blackberrys are. If it weren't for the messenger I would have switched to a nokia a long time ago. I doubt this thread will raise a response from RIM.

  • After Mavericks Update Arris Modem now going to standby mode when iMac sleeps

After installing Mavericks on iMac, whenever the iMac (connected wirelessly to the network with Airport Extreme 5th Gen) goes to sleep it is causing our modem to enter standby mode which limits internet access to all devices on the wireless network even when they are actively requesting data from the internet. As soon as the iMac is woken up the modem comes back out of sleep/standby mode and everything works fine. The modem is connected directly to the Airport Extreme WAN port and all devices just use wireless internet. The only resolution I've found is stopping the iMac from entering sleep mode in Energy Settings but this is not a long term solution. Anyone else having this issue?
The modem we have is an Arris TM722G.
    Thanks in advance.
I've also tried resetting PRAM, creating a new network location, releasing and renewing IP.

If you can get the computer to start in Recovery, then access OS X Utilities,
an attempt could be made to Repair Disk using the Disk Utility there...
Several instances of an upgrade leading to issues in Mac OS X was due
to some previous condition in the computer, or problem in the hard drive,
or maybe insufficient or low-quality RAM installed; among others, before
the last OS X upgrade was installed. And then the extra effort of processing
a new OS on top of other bits, can cause the computer to act up or fail.
What was the previous OS X version? How old is the iMac...?
Did you upgrade from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to Mavericks 10.9.2?

  • Portege 7140CT Shutting Down In Standby Mode - Cannot shut down normally

Hi. I have purchased a Portege 7140CT laptop for my son. This is a fine unit but has a 'Shutdown' problem - in that it wont shutdown, that is. It appears to power down, but the 2nd indicator from the LHS on the front of the unit flashes slowly. The user guide says this happens when the unit enters 'Standby' mode. I have tried all the FN+F3 options (Shutdown, Standby and Hibernate) with no difference. I have disabled the function key facility in Control Panel. I have disabled 'Hibernate' mode in Control Panel. All to no avail. Anyone any idea why this might be happening and how I might resolve? Many thanks for your assistance. Mike

    Hi,
I've never heard of this problem, but maybe reinstalling the system can solve it.
Or maybe reinstalling or updating the BIOS will help.
    Sorry I don't have a better idea.

  • MBP Won't Enter Standby

New MacBook Pro 2011 running Latest and greatest Lion. The computer will not enter standby mode unless the lid is closed. System Preferences is set to 1 minute.  I used migration assistant from an older (2008) MBP pro to tranfer files, etc.
I did an install of Snow Leopard to an external drive and booted from that and it worked fine so I don't think it's a hardware issue.
Is there a configuration file that might be an issue?

VM Ware 3.0 is supposed to be compatible with Lion. I had the same exact problem before I installed Lion running Snow Leopard (latest version). I was hoping that Lion was going to fix the problem. Which it didn't. Like I said a fresh install of Snow Leopard on an external drive it worked normally so I'm thinking there is either another program preventing it or a configuration file isn't right or never got created. I'm guessing here. I really don't want to reinstall everything to get this to work.

  • Qosmio F60-10J - Standby mode function

    Hello all,
most computers can be set to standby mode and switch back to wortking state after some time automatically.
There is a feature in the windows operating system which manages it and it is for example used by the task manager. When you create a task in the windows task manager, you can request it to wake up the computer from the standby mode at the moment when the task has to be executed. And it is what happens on most computers. Some other applications use the same feature and are able to wake up a computer for executing tasks at a given time.
None of these applications seem to work on my Toshiba Qosmio F60-10j and this means probably that the BIOS and the electronics of the computer do not take in account the necessary features. This is the first computer I see failing in this kind of use. It's a pity because it's a way to save power. For executing a task with this computer at a given moment, it seems necessary to keep it completely working and waiting for the moment when the task has to be executed. On most other computers, it's possible to turn them in standby mode, they restart when it's time working.
May be it's a bug in the BIOS and a fix is available?
    Best regards.
    D.F.

    Hello,
    I'll try to be clearer.
When you set your computer in standby mode, usually, you restart it by pressing on the power switch or on the keyboard.
    But there is another way.
Before the computer is set to standby mode, a program can request windows to restart automatically the computer at a given moment wiithout any action of the user. I use this a lot for example for capturing videos on TV. The computer stays in standby while waiting for the broadcast, and retarts at the moment when it has to record it.
If you want to be more technical, the windows API which does that is named SetWaitableTimer, and the parameter to start this function is a boolean named fResume.
So for example; if your program requested to resume the computer at 9 AM and if you set it to standby at 8:30 AM (or if it went in standby mode by itself ar 8:30) the computer will restart without any new action at 9 AM.
I use it for a long time on several computers, 2 Compaq, one Acer, and one IBM, with Windows XP and Vista.
A standard program shipped with windows uses this feature, it's the task manager (the windows scheduler) which is able to resume a computer in standby mode at the moment when a task is scheduled if it requests it.
What happens on the Qosmio ? simply nothing. Even if a program or the task manager requested it to resume at a given time, it stays in stanby mode. Of course, once the power switch is pressed, the computer restarts normally. But it seems that this computer has not the ability to restart automatically after a given time.
The O.S. is Windows 7 64, the one that was shipped with the computer.
I have no way to see if this comes from windows or from the computer. I never tested this on another windows 64 configuration. Anyway, it's a kernel function of windows and it's used by an important and standard windows tool, so that I don't think that there is a bug in the windows part. But of course, when the computer is on standby, windows is stopped and the restarting process relies completely on the electronics and BIOS of the computer, and in my opinion, the failure is probably there.
For now, the consequence for me is that i let the Qosmio running for example when waiting for recording a video, but I don't like it because it wastes power and makes the computer, its fan and disk run for nothing.
    Best regards.
    D.F.

  • 8520 won't enter standby when bluetooth connection is lost

Got a Blackberry Curve 8520 (OS version 4.6.1.305) and I got a little problem too. In my car I have a Hama Cruiser II bluetooth hands free set and if I'm connected to that and leave the car without turning it off (dunno if the problem also happens when I turn the bluetooth device off) after that I'm no longer able to enter standby mode with the standby button on top of the Curve 8520.
The only way to enable the standby button again is by turning the phone totally off and removing the battery for a few seconds, so that it does a "total reboot".
Is this a known issue or something new? Where can I place such bug reports?
    Regards
    Rainer

    Hello rakoenig,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
In this situation there are a couple things that I would recommend. First try disabling Bluetooth on the BlackBerry Smartphone by going to Manage Connection and uncheck the Bluetooth option. Then try to enter standby mode.
The second thing you can try is wipe the BlackBerry Smartphone. To do this we would need to back up the BlackBerry Smartphone first. Please open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager and connect your device. Click on the Backup and Restore options and select Back Up. Please note the location where the backup is being saved as we will need to access it later to restore the BlackBerry Smartphone.
Once the BlackBerry Smartphone is backed up please follow the following knowledge base article to security wipe your BlackBerry Smartphone.
    Link: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB14058
After completing the wipe please test the BlackBerry Smartphone with your Bluetooth device. At that point you can perform a restore of the BlackBerry Smartphone.
    Thank you

  • Ipod "rewinds" itself when in standby mode

I've been listening to some podcasts in mp3 format, pretty large - 17mb or so, so I've had to pause here and there. After a while, the ipod goes into standby mode, and when I resume playing, it seems to have skipped backwards several minutes, but the progress bar does not seem to have moved. The firmware is current, and I have done a reset. Anybody have any ideas/seen this before?

The alarm-clock might be turned on, try to turn this off.

  • BSOD every time I enter Unity Mode

    SUMMARY OF PROBLEM
My Windows Vista guest VM has started blue-screening every time I enter Unity Mode. (The host system continues running normally.)
I'm running Vista Business (32-bit) inside WMware Player v7.1.0 build-2496824 with 2 GB of RAM.
The host system is Windows 7 Professional (64-bit 6.1.7601) SP1 with 12 GB of RAM.
The guest system has just a handful of small applications installed.
The blue screens occur even with no applications running on the guest.
    NOTES
    (1) I've been using the VM frequently for several weeks now without any major issues, and I've tried Unity Mode a few times before with success.
However I've mostly just been running my VM in a normal window (whatever you call 'non unity mode'!)
    (2) I vaguely recall that one of the times I entered Unity Mode, many weeks ago, my host system made a bit of a drama... I think the Desktop Window Manager crashed and possibly Aero stopped working on the host OS. At the time, I guessed it was an issue with the host's graphics driver. (I've subsequently updated the host's graphics driver, and the problem has not reoccurred, which of course may or may not be pure coincidence.) But Unity Mode definitely worked, and has worked for a good length of time between my last host driver update and today, when the first BSOD occurred.
    (3) Prior to today, the only issue I have noticed with the VM is sometimes there is mouse pointer corruption after doing 'stuff' in the VM window (perhaps after performing actions that cause the guest's mouse pointer to change?) then moving the pointer outside the VM window: now, instead of just a regular white arrow, there's a varying pattern of pixels in two horizontal lines, a good few pixels below the bottom of the arrow. This corruption typically vanishes when I move the pointer back inside the VM window area, but often reappears (sometimes changing to a different pattern of corruption) when I move it outside again, and so on. After a varying number of repetitions (outside VMware window / inside / outside...) the corruption vanishes for the time being. (By the way, the corruption survives pointer changes on the host. So for example, I can move the corrupted pointer to a window edge on the host, causing the pointer to change to a double-arrow like usual, but the corruption is still there below the pointer.)
I've always felt the dodgy mouse pointer was a mild cause for concern! Nothing like this occurs until I start running my VM.
    (4) It's only in the last ~24 hours that I've been getting the BSODs when entering Unity Mode.
This roughly correlates with Vista demanding activation (which I have now finally got round to doing!) - this may or may not be pure coincidence.
The Vista guest definitely seemed to be on the brink of refusing to work - today it kept changing my desktop wallpaper to a plain black background and saying this was my last day to activate. This behaviour stopped as soon as I successfully activated it.
The Unity Mode BSODs have occurred both before AND after activation.
    (5) I have looked through recent Windows updates on both the host and the guest.
On the guest, there's nothing there other than Definitions Updates for Microsoft Security Essentials in the last month.
On the host, it's been six days since an OS update (since then, just MSE definition updates).
    (6) [Update] I've tried disabling Aero on the guest. The VM still BSODs on entering Unity Mode.
    The blue screen itself:

    Probably caused by : vm3dmp.sys ( vm3dmp+17c6f )
I have attached a photo showing the intermittent mouse pointer corruption issue.
I've also attached a screen shot of the BSOD.
Please let me know if there's any other info I should include. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

    Update:
My Vista VM still blue-screens 100% of the time when I try to enter Unity Mode.
    I've tried:
    * Uninstalling & reinstalling VMware Tools on the guest.
    * Disabling all non-essential hardware.
    * Performing a disk check within the guest (no errors).
    * Ensuring I have all the latest Windows updates.
    * Allocating more RAM to the VM.
    * Disabling graphics acceleration.
    * Reducing the number of CPU cores allocated from 2 to 1.
(None of these makes any difference. Obviously I'm clutching at straws with some of these things.)
The VM never BSODs under any other circumstances. It's solely when I click Unity Mode. Help!

  • Samsung Smart TV Remote and Standby Mode

Hi All - A few months ago I got a Samsung Smart TV that came with a pretty nice remote. It really can control almost all aspects of the FiOS service, but there are a few commands I cannot figure out how to get it to send to the FiOS STB.
First off, when I power on the TV, the STB is still in Stanby mode. It asks for me to "Press Menu to Watch ...". I cannot figure out how to get the Samsung remote to send that command or to disable standby mode on the STB. There is no menu button on this remote that's not TV-specific.
Second, I can't figure out how to bring up the full guide using the remote. By pressing the "up" direction on the four-way button, I get some smaller version of a guide, but I would prefer to see the standard full screen guide.
Finally, is there a way to get to the On Demand and DVR menus using the Samsung remote?
Anway, that's the the scoop. Most other featuers (DVR, etc) work pretty well.
The remote I'm using is a RMCTPF1AP1 and the STB is running version 1.9.7 and build 19.45. It's a QIP7232.
Thanks in advance for any guidance on getting this working.
    Dave

I'm not sure if you are turning the STB off or if the idle timer is doing it.
No reason to turn the STB off as it doesn't save any energy.
So leaving it on would alleviate one issue.

  • My IPhone 4S keeps entering recovery mode after few hours

    Hi,
I bought a new IPhone 4S from 12/2011. The first month of usage is fine but after I plug it into Itunes in my PC, problems start to appear. The phone keeps entering recovery mode (screen with itunes logo and USB cable) after a few days. Not long later, it automatically goes into recovery mode after 4-5 hours or randomly. I tried to hold the power with home button to kick it out but it goes back to recovery mode again after few hours. The following issues are also detected:
    - Sometimes there is a blue horizontal line appear when device is rebooting with Apple logo.
    - Any apps other than Apple's default apps cannot be accessed (tap the icon and it gets kick out to the home screen).
    - A yellow screen is often seen and then device goes back to recovery mode by itself.
    - 2 to 3 out of 10 attempts holding home and power buttons can get it out of recovery mode while 7-8 times this does not help.
I even use Itunes on PC to recover the phone as new Iphone. I went through all the settings as a new phone but the problem still persists.
I thought this is minor software issue but after seeing all these behaviors, I suspect this may a hardware-related problem.
Did anyone experience this problem before?
    Cheers.

  • My iPod Touch in need to enter DFU mode

My iPod Touch got stuck on the apple logo, and there is no way to get out of that instead of entering DFU mode and restoring my iPod Touch, but my iPod Touch 4th Generation (sleep/wake/power) button is broken and can't enter DFU mode without press that button and the home button, any programs or any pther things that can help me get into DFU mode while I'm stuck on the apple logo and without using the buttons?

All Apple wants is the iPod itself, if that's all you're having problems with. They will not need the packaging, nor any of the accessories unless you're having problems with any of them. As to "what you say", you'll tell them what the problem is.
