STB Rate Increase

I really don't understand why the price increase yet we still have to live with the 2 channel DVR.  I've been a long time customer of Verizon and participate a lot on the Forums but my frustrations are really high.  I'm paying more for less.
Set Top Box Rate Increase
To continue providing you with quality service and product innovation,
beginning December 1, 2013, the monthly rate for FiOS High
Definition and Standard Definition Set Top Boxes will increase $1 per
box, including Set Top Boxes that are part of an equipment package.
This rate increase will not apply to Set Top Boxes that are subject to
an equipment promotional offer. If you would like to review your
current services and equipment options, please visit verizon.com/all.

I had the exact same thing happen on this month's bill, and I, too, had a 2-year contract.  Did you ever hear back from Verizon or did you contact them via phone?
Can Verizon legally do this - i.e. just increase prices - without a notice?
And I will definitely be heading to cable.  They increased my STB fees by $6 a month (for 3 boxes), which will be an additional $72 in the course of a year.

  • I don't like rate increases

i see that my account took a .14 cent per line jump this year. Any reason it's going up other than "because we can"? Seems like you would give your long-time faithful-paying customers a break rather than a hit. Can you check into this for me? Getting awful close to dumping my cell phone and that's a lose/lose situation. How about we see what we can do to make it win/win? Thanks for considering.

That $0.14 per line jump is likely not a "rate increase" but simply a fluctuation in fees and/or taxes which happen occasionally. These go up and they also go down.

  • STB price increase

I have two set top boxes and one digital adapter. I am payiing just under 20 dollars a month in rental fees for all three. According to my June bill each device will have its rental charge increased by two dollars. That's a 30 % price increase! For the digital adapter, going from 3.99 to 5.99 is a 50% price increase! Even though I am on a two year contract, these increases are not part of the contract pricing. It was because of games like these that I moved from Comcast to FIOS. Guess its time to start lookng into  cable cards and tuners.

  • Digital starter TV rates increased 2x in 2 months?

Is it possible the rate for Digital Starter TV here in Atlanta increased from $49.99 in April to $59.19 in May and then again in June to $68.95? That's what my bills say. Usually there is an annual increase but not consecutive ones of such size. My zip is 30341. I must ve missed something somewhere.

I am sorry for the delay. I have sent you a private message to assist you further.

  • Philippines Subscription call rates increased

I used to subscribe for 800 minuts costing me 45 USD a month to be able to call the Philippines, recently prices ridiculously increased from 45 USD to 70 USD.
I was planing to perchase the 12 month subscription  roughly costing 540 USD but now it's 840 USD after the price increased.
What i wanna know is why did this happen and will the prices decrease to it's original cost or at least decreses in anyway possible...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi nehanlabay,
The recent price increase to Philippine subscriptions is due to the increased connection costs that Skype has to pay for calls to Philippines. We review our pricing for calls to mobiles and landlines on a regular basis, and we make any necessary adjustments to reflect market conditions and deliver the best value to people using Skype.
We are unable to confirm though regarding further price adjustments.
The price adjustments do not affect subscriptions with active billing agreements in an account. For your old subscriptions, I can see though that the billing agreements for your subscriptions were already cancelled. In the future, I suggest that you allow your subscriptions to automatically renew instead of buying new ones to keep the old price you initially paid.

  • Bit Rate increasing/decreasing when I edit Album Year, why?

Anytime I download a song from Itunes it is 256 kbps on Winamp
But the Album Year is 2007-05-09T07:00:00Z
So I change it to 2007
and Sometimes the bitrate goes up one or 2 kbps, why?

Are you talking about on your iDevice? Because music in iTunes isn't going to just spontaneously change unless you've deleted the original track and downloaded the "matched" one.
However, you will probably benefit from turning on the iCloud Status column in the iTunes Browser. Pull down View > View Options, select "icloud status" and click OK. In the new column and songs listed as "purchased" were bought from the iTunes Store; songs listed as "matched" are your original files matched to songs in the store; songs listed as "uploaded" the original file in your library has been uploaded and this is what will download to your iDevice or another iTunes library.

  • Annually increased resource rates

An interesting problem has just arisen.
We use fully resourced and costed programmes using P6R8 and I have just come across this.
Our resource charge out rate changes every 1st April so I have added effective dates and correct resource charge out rates to the relevent years.
For activities that are either side of the rate change, the correct value is shown (i.e. a 10 hour activity at £45.98/hr = £459.80) Obviously the activities on the other side of the rate increase show the new rate and work that out correctly.
However, can you imagine for example, a project management overhead bar that extends through 2 or even 3 rate changes. I would expect to see an increase in cost at the rate change even though the number of hours remains the same.
It doesn't appear that Primavera thinks this way. It appears to calculate the value by taking the number of hours at each rate and working that out and then showing an average spend for each resource based on the value of the resource divided by the total number of hours on that activity.
This gives the correct value for the bar at the completion of the activity, but when you are claiming EV from a client on a monthly basis, the average that you are claiming is, at the beginning of the activity higher than you would expect, and at the end of the activity is less than your charge out rate. As I say, at the end of the activity it is the correct value, but not on a month by month basis.
I know this is only for very long overhead type bars and if you build your schedule correctly it will not affect "normal length" activities.
Is this a problem that has been overlooked by Primavera or am I being overly cautious, but if I was the client and doing some real forensic digging into a schedule, it is a question I would ask
I look forward to all your replies
    Best regards

We have observed same results for the resources we increased rates. We would like to see some answer/justification by Oracle-Primavera.
Although one of the work around is, reassign the same resource to activity, change the resource start date matching effective date of the resource increased rate. Remaining units will be your budgeted units and bucket plan/units/cash flow for the remaining periods.
We are also looking for some solutions if we come up something more than reassigning the same resources or adding new resources with new rates........ We will get back to you and suggest something that work easy and less complex.
    Thanks

  • Running a smoot and constant frame rate?

    Hi,
Can someone please show me a way in which I can maintain a constant fram rate, cause the only use of:
    try {
    Thread.sleep(snooze);
    }catch (InterruptedException ex) {
    // do nothing
is a bit bumpy, i.e. the frame rate increases and decreases as it wishes
Is there a better way, perhaps using a different method all together?

A smooth animation has a constant framerate.
Regardless of the FPS, if you are rendering your frames at a constant interval your animation will be smooth.
What you use as your trigger is upto you.
1)Thread.sleep(constantInterval-frameRenderTime);is a simplistic approach, but will work for the most part.
2)System.currentTimeMillis()-prevTime < constantIntervalwill also work fine, but requires a 1/2 decent system clock granuality
    3) Time based.
Frames are rendered as fast as possible, and motion is scaled relative to the length of the frame. Higher FPS=Smoother motion.
Time based is best for 3D only though, due to the way the human brain interpolates motion.
    4) Vsync. (fullscreen only - PageFlipping BufferStrategy - bs.show())
Not realy a timing mechanism, but it is a trigger that is sent at a constant rate (the actual speed depends on your monitor & gfx card).
If you can ensure each frame takes less time to render than the time between vsyncs. You will never 'miss' a frame, and consequently will have a smooth fps.

  • Will Apple help us with ATT rate hikes? Who do I contact?

Just a few months ago - and at the time I entered into my 2 year contract - unlimited textings was avaialble for less that 5 dollars more. But that is now gone and what has taken its place is just Dick Channey crazy!
Wasnt the whole point of APPLE insisting that phone plans all come with unlimited internet so that this would encourage the owners to fully integrate the iphone in to their daily lives? Does having huge rate increases in texting help that cause ?
MY QUESTION TO APPLE and its user forums - WHO do I contact at apple or at ATT for help on this issue??
Thats what I want in a nutshell. If you want, I can tell ya more.
    Harry
    iphone, ipod and shuffle owner
    MORE is this...........................
I do understand the nature of big business and partnerships etc.
I do understand that Apple would like to not be involved in disputes between ATT and its customers.
I GET THAT. But can Apple help me anyway just for the reason that I WANT TO KEEP MY IPHONE?!?!?
ATT has implemented monsterous rate hikes and LIMITATIONS on package combinations so that iphone users will pay as much or more for Texting than they do for unlimited internet.
We had to live with unlimited internet not including unlimited texting. OK fine, thats how it was when we signed up and you have to take it or leave it. But now with the new changes in rates - here is what the iphone user has as their options.
    200 included texts for free
    or
    $5 - get 200 more - 400 texts total
    or
THE NEXT OPTION - $20 MORE, for not unlimited but 1500 texts.
Does having to keep an eye on your text totals or paying at least $85 / month sound like the vision that apple wanted for the iphone users?
if it doesnt, WILL YOU HELP US?

I didnt forget that - its I dont know that statement to be true.
I have been with ATT since Cingular and I've had internet, text and MMS combo packages for some time now; that Includes shopping around for the right phone and plans combo. And I know for a fact that there were MANY combos of unlimited and they were FAR from 50 bucks.
There certainly might be a webpage or two with some ancient pricing plans offered. And I am sure that any one of those would be superceeded by another new price offer on the same plan.
so I didnt forget that; I knew it to be not on point.

  • 23.976 frame rate explained

This post was triggered from this this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4741388#4741388
I just thought it best to start a new one
Okay iSchwartz, with the speed of a flying bullet, and with help from my fellow members of the IBS (Institute of Broadcast Sound - in the UK), I think I have some answers...
24P is indeed simply video at 24frames per second with the "P" meaning Progressive scan. Its a video format invented to be compatible with film. It also means that the footage will have more of a "film look" when its converted to TV frame rates for broadcast as it will have the same process applied to it as film footage.
As to where 23.976 fps comes in (with regards to Logic) is rather more vague!
(warning - the following contains some speculation!)
As all will know because film is shot at 24fps it needs a special conversion process to be shown on an NTSC TV of 29.97fps. The process could just speed the film up but it would look funny and so they sort of duplicate some of the film's frames instead, to get the frame rate increased. The process used would result in a frame rate of 30fps so to bring it in line with the (cumbersome) NTSC frame rate they have to slow the film down slightly (by 0.1%) before they "scan" in the film's frames to make video.
...and guess what a 0.1% speed reduction of 24fps results in? Yes - 23.976!
    so...
23.976 is the frame rate of the telecine machine when playing film to transfer to NTSC tv. The process involves slowing the 24fps film by 0.1% to 23.976 and applying a 2:3 pulldown picture process, resulting in NTSC's frame rate of 29.97fps
Now the question is why would you want Logic to work in 23.976fps?
It is possible (I don't know for sure) that when you shoot with film (ie 24fps), destined for tv that the programme is edited at 23.976, ready for the telecine process, and so this is the frame rate used during the post production process - As it is the time reference used in the edit then we need logic to work at this rate too so we're all in time.
It is also possible that the latest HD video cameras provide a shooting frame rate of 23.976 fps so that the "slow down" process of the past is not required.
Having said that to view the 23.976 fps pictures on telly the video needs to be converted to 30fpsDrop - or you need a display that can work at this unusual frame rate. I am not sure what the implication of all this would be for the musician "working to picture".
One thing I would say, is that musicians are not alone in having much confusion with frame rates and time code, especially now Hi def has arrived. I would strongly advise double checking with "production", particularly the dubbing editor, if that frame rate requested ~really~ is the right one!
I hope I haven't confused the issue even more with all that! Don't take any of this as gospel as I am still learning too. I trust someone will provide corrections and additions.

    Rohan,
I agree in so far as the musician should not have to worry about the technical aspects of picture, but the composer is working within a team of people who have to be able to communicate effectively. the composer is also part of the production's overall workflow and so the composer's work methods can be dependent on productions.
    To answer you points individually...
    - when the telecine is created, and then sent for offline editing, it is the offline edit that you receive with the BITC or the striped LTC (rare these days) that should be your guide. obviously in the states with the confusing NTSC format, it is important to be sure what format they have used in the offline process, but ultimately it is the production facility to ensure you have a video edit that you can work to
Your first sentence says it all. If the offline edit is in 23.976 then presumably this is what you'll get sent. I have no idea how this will get delivered as the format would not work on video tape, you wouldn't be able to view it on a standard TV either. You could view it as a quicktime movie. That is the only way I can think of.
I agree it should be up to production to provide you with what you can work with but how far must they accommodate? I doubt anyone would be too happy providing U-matic tapes these days. For my last job I wanted QT movies on a DVD-R but I had to settle for DV tapes and capture myself. Lets face it, as technology gets cheaper and more accessible we are increasingly expected to be able to handle all those advances!
    - so the music you create can either sync to a master clock (which is rare other than word clock which is not for video syncing anyway) or simply to the QT or VHS that you have been provided with which should have standard frame rates. you simply compose your music based on that sync
I don't know what you mean by "master clock" in this context, and as you point out word clock has no timing information at all and is irrelevant in a timecode discussion. Yes you work to the movie you've been given, but what if its using 23.976fps? If it is, it wont be on VHS - and, you wont be able to sync properly to it in Logic as Logic doesn't work with 23.976
If production provides you with a "special copy" in say standard NTSC 29.97fps then the editors timecode will be different to yours. You wont be able to talk timecodes with them over the phone for example. For them to do this production will have to convert the footage specially for you using 3:2pulldown telecine process (so the film plays at the right speed) and I'm not sure they would pay for that!
    - the issue is more critical in the dubb, but generally 1 second of music at whatever frame rate is still 1 second of music. when you send your music in it is almost never smpte locked unless you have delivered via a timecoded DAT something which is very rare these days. basically it simply measures the sample rate and then syncs within the DAW in the dub
1 second in NTSC's 29.97fps is 1second at 23.976fps which is 1 second in PAL's 25fps too;-) Its the number of frames within one second that has changed. The problem is the format of the movie. you can play it in QT but not on the telly and Logic doesn't have a time base to match with it. It is likely that logic will be able to follow the movie in QT (not sure of that), or "chase" it, but Logic's own smpte display will not match the movie's BITC. Indeed all of logic's time references will not match the movie's.
when you send your music in it is almost never smpte locked unless you have delivered via a timecoded DAT something which is very rare these days. basically it simply measures the sample rate and then syncs within the DAW in the dub
Ever heard of BWF? Bounce your finished music in logic as a WAV file and you actually get a timecode stamped "Broadcast WAV" file: a file that has the SMPTE time of where the music starts in the film. The timing info is embedded in the file. All the dub mixer has to do is press a key-command to place this file in the right place in the film. I worked this way on my last project. (Its also how logic can place any audio file into "its original recording position")
Without using timecode I'm wondering how you tell "the dub" where the music should go in the film? - I'm genuinely curious. In the past when delivering music without timecode I would still say, in a written note for eg, the track starts at some timecode point (as referenced to the BITC for eg). This is why the composers timecode needs to be the same as the dub/editor's!
    - it is simply important for the people sending you their film to agree how many frames consitute their second. if you have a VHS playout from the offline, you should work to whatever format that VHS or DVD comes in; NTSC or PAL. it's not your job to worry about the film to offline telecine
    A nice thought in theory:-)
It shouldn't be our job to worry about such things (bars, beats, keys and harmony are enough for me!) but we may not have the choice if we want the job!
Don't get me wrong here Rohan. I don't profess to understanding all this stuff properly and I have never been asked to work in 23.976fps. I went down this line of enquiry to see if I needed to know about it! Perhaps you are right and production will supply a special version for the composer - but I'd like to know if this is the case as I like to have a basic grasp of the overall production process. I'd love to know of anyone who has had to work in this frame rate and how typical it is becoming (if at all).

  • Increase in monthly charge, without being notified!

Hi. I have an academic individual CC subscription. It automatically renewed last October (2014), however the monthly rate increased from €19.99 p.m. to €30.74 p.m.
I was not informed beforehand of this increase, as per my contract, which states that:
"the price is valid for a full 12 months. After that, we'll renew your contract automatically unless you cancel. The price is subject to change, but we will always notify you beforehand."
This is very dishonest of Adobe, and furthermore breaks the terms of my contract. Has anyone else had this problem?
    Many thanks in advance.
    A.

    What Mylenium said.
There's no dishonesty here but perhaps Adobe's admin could use some improvement e.g. email to notify you of what happens in month 13 when the auto-renew kicks in.
When you signed up originally, it was for the promotional pricing for the first 12 months which auto-renews.
    Terms and Conditions | Adobe
The Terms of the offer say:
"$19.99/month Creative Cloud Introductory Pricing – Save 60%
Eligible  students 13 and older and teachers can purchase an annual membership to Adobe® Creative Cloud™ for a reduced price of $19.99/month for the first year. After the first year we will renew your contract automatically for another year at the then-current standard monthly price (currently at $29.99/month), unless you cancel."
So, in short, you were notified 12 months ago but a reminder 12 months later would have alleviated this confusion for you.
