STB sticks on starting up after reset (displays --:--)

Heya, I reset a new STB. The box display just shows --:--, and the TV display shows "Starting Up... One Moment Please." I've left it at that screen for hours, reset, left it again, it never progresses, never displays the time, etc. Other STBs in the house work, my internet works, etc.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

the dashes mean that the box is not getting a signal. Its going to be one of three things.
1. The coax to the stb is connected incorrectly or has a poor connection.  Make sure that the coax from the wall to the stb is connected to the "fios tv in" or "RF in" on the back of the stb. If this is correct. Try disconnecting and reconnecting to make sure you have a good connection
2. It could be that the coax is not connected to a Verizon broadcast. Has there been service in this location before? Was it connected to the Verizon system?
3. It could be a problem with the STB. You can test this by bringing this box to a known working location, or bring another working box to this location. If the problem follows the box, then it is the box. If it says in this location, its the wire.

  • [SOLVED] How to unload any driver(dll) at the start up after reset??

    Dear Developers,
    Greetings!!!
As, I am using AM335x BSP with WinCE 7. We have one vendor Wifi device and its binary images(driver installer). When we reset the target board, the modules do not reset and during the time of board booting, I found the following logs
7771 PID:400002 TID:9e0006 Warning! Kernel DLL 'rwlpsdio.dll' is registered for thread creation/deletion notification. To improve performance if you dont need thread notifications call DisableThreadLibraryCalls from inside D
    7774 PID:400002 TID:9e0006 DriverEntry!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    7777 PID:400002 TID:9e0006 SDIO not initialized, returning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    7778 PID:400002 TID:9e0006 OSAXST1: <<< Unloading Module 'rwlpsdio.dll' (0x9E438000) at address 0xA7C90000-0xA7D47000 in Process 'NK.EXE' (0x87FDFAD0)
PB Debugger Unloaded symbols for 'rwlpsdio.dll'
We conclude that when we reset the device, the driver is not unloading and that why, its not releasing the resource.
My motto to solve the issue by creating an application that run at every startup after reset and unload the driver. So, that during the time of loading it, it re-loads properly..
I am searching it on google but unable to find any way so far.
ASAP reply must be highly appreciated

    Dear Developers,
    @balaji,
As I had read the link https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/98aa5eca-0b38-4f6e-bf7b-81cb7068422e/sdio-wifi-driver-and-prefetch-aborts-problem?forum=winembplatdev
And, in the above thread you were replying as
    Hi Misbah,
NdisMRegisterMiniport sure needs to be called from DriverEntry. Can you check if NdisRegisterAdapter is present. This ideally should be somewhere in your stream interface.
I am taking a wild guess here , perhaps you can may be introduce some delay in DriverEntry , so that the stream driver gets a chance to load?.
e.g. you can use one of NdisWaitEvent functions.
    All the best.
    Regards,
    Balaji.
As, per my knowledge, the DriverEntry is the first function that is called by ndis after loading the ndis.dll and it is responsible for registering the driver with NDIS by  using
    NdisRegsiterMiniportDriver.
Any how in my case, DriverEntry is called but the same function we are getting one error and that's why driver is not registered with NDIS.
We are checking SDIO  interface status, either it is uo or not. If it is up then fine and if not then display warning and unload the driver.
So, in my case, the SDIO status is not up after resting the device.
    Any suggestion will be appreciated????

  • Ipad wont start even after reset

My Ipad fell down.  When I tried to reset using the combination button press, apple logo wont appear. How do I restore? I plugged to my PC laptop and run diagnostics, synch went well. However, it still wont startup and screen is still blank. Please assist.

Try plugging the iPad into the wall adpater for about 10 minutes. If it doesn't startup after that, it'll need to be repaired.

  • PPC G5 quad will not start up after resetting SMU AND PRAM

    Hi folks
I been having issues with my G5,  where it would freeze up unexpectedly and then the fans would come on full tilt.
I received some advice about resetting the SMU and the PRAM.
Now my mac dose not get past the grey screen.  I have to hard drives attaches one has OS 10.4.11 the other has Leopard.
Odd thing about the Pram is I never got the mac to re-chime.
Also I was advised at the apple store to disconnect power for 30 sec and then hold the power button on for 20 sec after the restarting. I heard an odd tone and then the fans came on.
Btw this model does have the SMU button which I pressed when the power was off.
As the unit will not run with the fans removed.
    Any suggestions?
    Much appreciated
12 gig of ram in the 8 slots.  All FireWire , Ethernet  and USB disconnected

There is a battery that makes the PRAM work.  You may need to replace the battery.
You may also need to limit your RAM to two 1 GB modules, making sure they are made for the PowerMac G5 of your machine's age.  Not all 533 MHz PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM. will work with the machine, it has to be specifically made by the age of the Mac model, and Mac model name according to the vendor.  Thus if you have a Quad Core Mac from 2005, that's what you need to buy RAM for.  Do not buy 533 Mhz PC2-4200 RAM just because it says it is that.
http://www.crucial.com/ and http://www.macsales.com/ specify the model and age of Mac in their store.
Others may too, but do not have ValueRAM or non-lifetime warranty RAM.
Lastly, your model may have liquid coolent that has run out or gotten old, making it not boot.  If unsure where it is, ask an authorized service center.  Some have leaks and won't boot at all.

  • Problem starting TC after reset

I made an update of the firmware today. Now the TC is not visable in the Airport Utility TC. Even after hard reset, only the orange light comes on and the TC is not visible. How can I restore the old situation?

Do you mean the TC LED is solid amber.. that is a very serious issue. It indicates the TC has failed to boot.
Try a full factory reset. That means to hold in the reset whilst you power on.. keep holding it in until the front LED flashes rapidly then release.. if the TC still fails to boot.. ie get to a flashing amber led.. then it is dead.. the general problem is the hard disk has failed.. but since it happened just with the update of firmware, it could be firmware corrupted. This is pretty unusual as Apple has a protected firmware upgrade.
How old is the TC? If in warranty or applecare on a computer and TC is less than 3years, return for replacement.. otherwise open it and disconnect the hard disk.
    http://www.ifixit.com/Device/Apple_Time_Capsule
If it still fails to boot it is corrupted firmware.. if it does boot it is a dead hard hard.. that just happened to fail at the same time.. it happens.

  • My ipod touch does not start up after resetting

my ipod does not turn on after I reset it. It shows an apple logo and flicker white screen until the battery goes dead.

    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Can't boot after resetting PRAM??

Before attempting to install Leopard, I upgraded my non-leopard compatible 1.2 GHz processor to a 1.8 GHz leopard compatible one. I also doubled my RAM from 512 to 1024 MB. I then installed leopard but upon restart it continually shut down. Holding down the "c" button at startup, I was able to boot from the leopard disc. I could then even start the computer from my old Panther startup volume. I used 'Disk Utility', ran 'disk repair' and reinstalled Leopard. The same problem persisted.
In another forum someone suggested resetting the PRAM as a next step. This I did but now I'm really freaking out because my computer is totally nonresponsive. My computer starts, I no longer hear that wonderful symphonic major chord, the Apple logo appears (with no circular loading bar), and there it remains frozen. I can no longer boot from the Leopard disc or any other disc (TechTool Pro, DiskWarrior). What should I try now?

There are several things you can do.
If you can’t start up after resetting PRAM
If you have a redundant array of independent disks (RAID) scheme set up, your computer may not start up if you reset parameter random-access memory (PRAM) when you restart.
If this happens, hold down the Option key while you restart your computer, and select your startup disk when you see the prompt.
f a message says “type ‘mac-boot’ and press return”
If the message “type ‘mac-boot’ and press return” appears when you try to start up your computer, some of your computer’s internal settings need to be reset.
NOTE: It may be helpful to print these instructions before you begin.
    Or, try these suggestions:
    ■ Shut down your computer. Turn the computer back on and immediately hold down Command-Option-P-R, continuing to press until you hear the startup sound for the second time. This resets the computer’s parameter random-access memory (PRAM).
IMPORTANT: Resetting PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.
    And finally
    Restart with the X key
Hold down the X key and choose Apple menu > Restart. This may force the computer to start up using your Mac OS X system.
If the computer starts up, release the X key. Choose Apple menu> System Preferences, and then click Startup Disk. Make sure that the disk containing Mac OS X is selected.
    Restart with the Option key
If you are unable to start up using the X key, choose Apple menu > Restart and immediately hold down the Option key.
When icons start to appear in the center of the screen, release the Option key. Select the disk that contains Mac OS X, and then click the forward arrow to continue starting up.
    ■ If resetting PRAM doesn’t solve the problem, reset non-volatile random access memory (NVRAM). When the “To continue booting ...” message appears, type “reset-nvram” and press Return. Then type “reset-all” and press Return.

  • External Display resolution problem after resetting PRAM

Gello, I've got Fujitsu-Siemens P19-2 monitor hooked up to my MbookPro and after resetting PRAM the correct display resolution disappeared from the "Displays" menu in System PReferences.
So did the refresh rate option...
    What do I do?
I really need to change the refresh rate and the resolution, but the refresh rate button is grey and unclickable, and the resolution simply isn't there (I need 1280x1024).
REsetting PRAM and SMC didn't help.

After a couple of resets everything went back to normal

My ipad2 shut down randomly and than start. Problem is remain after reset. What is the solution.

You can try restoring your iPad as new using iTunes on your computer. This will load a new copy of the iOS software onto your iPad.
If this doesn't work you may have a hardware problem and will need to contact Apple Support.

  • After resetting ipad, unable to get to home screen. Only displays request to attach to Itunes, which I did. What next?

after resetting ipad and removing all programs, cannot get to home screen. Only get request to plug in to itumes, which I did, and it still goes back to that, and the apple logo.

The message means that you need to restore the iPad using iTunes. When you connect the iPad to your computer and launch iTunes, if you cannot see the iPad under the devices heading in the sidebar of iTunes, you wll have to restore using recovery mode. If you see the iPad under the devices heading, click on it and then click on the summary tab on the right and click on restore.
If that doesn't work, this is how to restore with recovery mode.
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.
    Use iTunes to restore iPad.
If you are running iTunes 11 - and you can't see the sidebar - to to View>Show Sidebar from the iTunes menu at the top of the screen.
