Steady Sleep Indicator... No Start Up

Can anyone assist with a solution for the steady sleep indicator...?
My Mac Book Pro is brand new tonight and I can't get into the thing due to this issue... can someone please help me have a happier New Year than the way it's about to start off ?
Any help is appreciated...
I've shut down multiple times... tried the PMU(?) reset thing... all to no avail -
thanks in advance -

I would try to boot with the battery pulled. Unplug the power and battery wait about 15 minutes and than give it a shot. Good Luck

  • MBP won't start or read from optical drive; steady sleep indicator light

MBP went into sleep mode at some point during the day. Now I cannot wake it up. I had a steady sleep indicator light. I've tried everything in the book (holding down pwr button to shut down, then restarting; reset power manager; tried rebooting with OS disc #1 installed - which now will not eject).
When I press the power button, I can hear the optical drive start to turn, then it stops short. The drive will spin for awhile, then stops automatically. The computer fans come on, but that's about it. I can't reboot so as to run Disk Utility. The screen remains black. Starting with shift key pressed for Safe mode or pressing C also have not worked. Seems as if the computer is not getting passed the initial start up sequence. My wife also has a MBP but I haven't tried reading my computer via Firewire yet. Not sure that will help.
I'm a long way away from any Apple store (Kazakhstan) and would greatly appreciate some help. Thanks! Scott

This problem has been resolved. Problem was a faulty RAM module. I sent my MacBook Pro to an authorized service center; they had it fixed in less than 1 day. Works fine now. No problems since!

  • After upgrading to Mac OS 10.6.8, sleep indicator light remains off when I start my MB Pro

After upgrading to Mac OS 10.6.8, sleep indicator light remains off when I start my 15" MB Pro, but the computer works, and when I put it to sleep, the light flashes as normally. Any suggestions?

    Hi j,
An SMC Reset can fix some SIL issues. If everything is working fine . . . ? Anyway, it shouldn't hurt anything to try it if you want: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

  • Sleep Indicator light stopped working- any way to diagnose and resolve thi

The Sleep Indicator light on my Powerbook G4 12" 1.5Ghz has ceased to work. Just wondering if this is a sign of anything other than age and if it is possible to resolve at all?

This was a bit of a non issue it turns out. For some reason it started working again! The light has come back on! Not sure what happened there.

  • Sleep Indicator won't Wake

My sleep indicator light recently ceased glowing while the computer is on and awake. However, it works perfectly when the computer is asleep and/or the lid is closed. It stopped during a pause in a downloaded iTunes rental. After attempting a reset of the power module (directed by apple care representative), the problem was not corrected.
I was then directed to an apple store/best buy to get the hardware checked out. Apparently the apple guy only works five hours a day so the problem remains unresolved. I did notice; however all the other display macs in the store had the same problem.
Is this an intentional result of an upgrade, or a goof in some new firmware?
I have not yet reset the firmware; however, I have been considering it as a possible next resort. Any feedback?

    I've got the same problem.
The status/sleep light is no longer on when the computer is awake, unless the display is asleep, in which case the indicator light is fully lit.
When the computer is asleep, the indicator light flashes as it should.
This has just started happening since I installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 this morning.

  • Sleep Indicator Light

My computer locked up and I had to shut it down by holding in the power button. It then would not reboot. I ended up having to reinstall my operating system. Since then my sleep indicator light doesn't work. My computer goes into sleep mode, but the indicator light doesn't come on or flash. Anyone know how I can get the light to start working again??

Thanks for giving me the suggestion. I didn't get the opportunity to try your solution though. We had a power failure due to a storm today and I unplugged my computer. When I plugged it back up I decided to plug it into a power surge protector. When I booted the computer back up the light came on.

  • MBP won't turn on (sleep indicator light is flashing)

I just bought a new MBP. I was downloading from my USB stick when the laptop suddenly died. It won't turn on now. When I press the power button, the sleep indicator starts flashing incessantly.
I tried the stand technique of taking out the battery, removing the AC plug, and holding down the power button for 5 seconds. Nothing.
    Any ideas?

I'm having this same problem. I'm an alaskan, so my view of heat may be skewed, but my laptop was sitting in the car for about 30 minutes here in montana - I really hope the heat didn't damage my brand-spanking new MBP )-:
    I have a built-to-order MBP with 2GBs RAM, boring old high-quality apple standard RAM, so I don't think that's the problem ^^/

  • Sleep indicator light not working

This isn't really that huge of an issue, but I've noticed that the sleep indicator light on my 366MHz Firewire iBook, which I recently bought on eBay and installed a few upgrades in, seems to not be flashing when the computer is asleep. At first I suspected a bad LED, so I swapped it out with a known-good indicator light from my previous 300MHz iBook. That hasn't seemed to work, and both display cables going into the motherboard appear to be securely attached. Oddly enough, I do recall one time when I put the computer to sleep and the indicator light worked (this was somewhere in the middle of my trying to get it to work), but I haven't been able to replicate it.

Have you tried to reset the Power Management Unit (PMU)?

  • Sleep indicator stopped working

    Hi,
I noticed recently that the sleep indicator on my mb 13" 2.0 has stopped working. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how I might get it working again.

I don't know if there is a script that would force this. Now that we have reset the SMC and it has not fixed the issue, I would suggest the following:
    1) It is just barely possible that this issue is specific to one user account. Create a new user account and log into it. Does the issue go away?
    2) It is also possible that the issue is a software problem. If the previous steps didn't fix it, I would suggest backing up your important data and then doing an [Archive and Install|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710] of your operating system. This is not likely to fix the issue but it is possible. It is also much less intrusive than the next suggestion.
    3) [Contact Apple|http://www.apple.com/support/contact/phone_contacts.html] and arrange for a hardware repair.

  • Has anyone had any issues with the sleep indicator light?

I have a 15.4-inch MacBook Pro 2.8 GHz (Late 2009) and recently I have noticed some issues involving the sleep indicator light and my Mac sleeping.
I learned that the sleep indicator light is supposed to be on when you press the power button until the chime sounds and then its supposed to be recognized when the computer sleeps or when the lid is closed.
Lately, the sleep indicator light has not be working when the computer boots (it still chimes), when the computer shuts down or when the computer is sleeping. The computer still sleeps if you close the lid, but it acts up when you don't and use the Apple menu (Apple > Sleep), keyboard shortcuts (CmdOptionMedia Eject) or use the power button and select "Sleep". Usually when I use this method instead of closing the lid, the authentication login window appears and when I click "cancel", the computer sleeps.
But still the sleep indicator light does not appear any time. I'm wondering if I need to get my Mac serviced. I still have a 2-year Best Buy Geek Squad warranty on the MacBook Pro.
+It is weird that this is happening to me, cause my computer is only 1 year and 4 months old.+
Is there anything you know that would help fix this issue.

The microUSB cables are fairly common... most portable electronics today use them for file transfer/charging.
If the user does not own one, they can be purchased from most retailers fairly inexpensively.

Can I turn off the sleep indicator in the display release latch even though it is still sleeping?

    ...duct tape?
Apple released an update a while back to control the brightness of the sleep indicator, but it was only for certain G5 models. Quick perusal of apple support didn't turn up anything. Coworker swears that the brightness is controlled by the ambient light sensor, but I certainly can't tell the difference in a bright vs dark room...

  • Mission Control won't work after sleeping.  Upon Start up it's fine, but after sleeping it won't work by track pad or keyboard.

Since updating, Mission Control won't work after sleeping.  Upon Start up it's fine, but after sleeping it won't work by trackpad or keyboard. I'm sure I use Mission Control more than most, so it's really irritating for me.

No, the versions of iPhoto on the iPad and on OS X are totally different.
What Apple ID are you using for the Mac App Store? Who else has access to that Apple ID, or what possible other Apple IDs could be in use? It's possible you'll need to purchase iPhoto to get the upgrade, though I'd think Software Update should offer you the correct version.

    Regarding your new Guest Account.
If it is the Guest User created by Find My Mac, it is advisable that you leave it be in order to maintain the functionality of the Find My Mac system. It is not a typical guest account. A person can't use the account to log into the system. It only permits the user (presumably a thief) to use a crippled version of Safari, in which the thief will reveal his/her location, hopefully to an end result wherein you may be able to recover the stolen computer.
The very nature of this unique guest account is to increase the security of the system, not to degrade it as a typical guest account might do.

  • Sleep Indicator Problem when Powering Down MacBook

When I power down my MacBook Pro and close the laptop, the sleep indicator light comes on. It does not pulse like it does when the machine is asleep, it stays constant. Then when powering the computer back on, the power button is unresponsive and needs to be held for a moment in order to turn the computer back on.
I tried unplugging the computer while I was away from it, and after a couple of hours the sleep indicator was off and the battery was completely drained. After plugging the computer back in, it booted up like normal.
I usually turn the computer on when I get home from work, and turn it off before I leave for work in the morning. So, the computer is usually off for about 10 hours a day. Also, I usually cycle the battery once or twice a week to keep it from dyeing on me. I have owned the computer now for about two years and keep all the software and security packages up to date. If anyone has input, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

The LED light comes on only after I close my laptop, it doesn't turn on until the top is closed. I always close the laptop after I turn it off though, I haven't tried leaving it open after turning it off. And I usually give it about a minute or two to completly shutdown before I close it up for awhile. By holding down the power button to turn the computer on, is that considered a forced shutdown?

  • Sleep Indicator Light Adjusts to Ambient Light?

I just noticed in the last few days that the sleep indicator light on my UMBP actually pulses brighter/dimmer according to ambient light, even when the lid is closed and computer is asleep. Am I imagining this? How could this work?

I don't want to alarm you, but this is what was happening with my previous generation macbook pro 17, it turned out to be a sleep problem (would wake up when moved, or in bag) They replaced the lcd, the clamshell housing, top case, bottom case, logic board and left I/O board to no avail. Luckily I was still within my applecare, so it was replaced with a unibody. I would suggest that you take it in to the genius bar, they may try to tell you that it's some firmware update and that its supposed to do that now, but my new mbp sure doesn't do this, so I think they were just trying to get rid of me, but who knows.
