Stealth Plug in OSX 10.5.7?

I've just switched over the OSX 10.5.7 and now I've lost the volume control on my Stealth Plug guitar interface. The Volume slider in the upper right under the speaker icon is now greyed out and won't adjust the level. Anyone else suffering this same frustration? Any suggestions?

  • Garritan and Vokator in 7.2.3

I recently bought an Intel Quad 2.3GHz, 4GB Ram. I've updated to 7.2.3, running Mac OSX.4.8
Logic no longer recognises Vokator, or Garritan Personal Orchestra (about 90% of my files used garritan).
The AU scan does not even show them as failed validations. VST plug ins are present (I know that's not the same thing as AU, but I cannot find AU plug ins anywhere, and was checking that installation had worked.
Can anyone suggest how I might get these working again, especially garritan.
I'm beginning to suspec this is a problem with the Intel machine, as neither appear in Kore either, despite the VST pis being in place.
    many thanks

VST plugs went the way of the dinosaurs under OSX. Simply put, VST plugs are not compatible with OSX, which runs AU (audio units) plugs only.
I've read about some things called 'VST wrappers' which allow the use of VST plugs under OSX. Do some research to see if this kind of thing would work for you. Otherwise, you'll have to update/upgrade from your VST versions to AU versions of your plugs.

  • MacbookAir4,2 intermittent freezing/crashing. Lion re-install left system unusable

This post is mainly to catalog my experiences with my Mid-2011 Macbook Air. At this stage it's looking like I cannot solve the problems I'm having.
Within the first week of purchasing the laptop the system started freezing intermittently. I the symptoms seem to match those discussed elsewhere on this forum (1, 2, 3). At the worst times the machine would freeze 4-5 times a day, but it could also go 3-4 weeks without any issues.
I called Apple support who told me to Reset the PRAM/NVRAM and the SMC. This did not solve the issue. I re-installed Lion (without formatting the HD), no change. I performed the Hardware test (standard and extended), it showed a clean bill of health. I upgraded to 10.7.1 and 10.7.2 without any fixes.
I have just tried to reinstall Lion after a format of the HD and appear to have put the laptop in an unserviceable state. After formatting the drive I tried to ensure I could choose it as a startup disk. It wasn't showing in the Recovery Mode Startup disk selector tool. So I bless'd the mount, it wouldn't set the NVRAM boot parameter. bless'd the device, same thing. I went ahead with a re-install, and it downloaded the image and restarted.
Now I have a    prohibition symbol showing when the Mac starts. If I try to use the Recovery tool (Command-R) it asks for my wireless password, and won't accept the WPA2 key (I've tried multiple times, and can access the WiFi from my Android phone, it's the right key). Trying to reset the PRAM/NVRAM, SMC and entering the Hardware test are now all failing. The recovery USB key I made shows a flashing folder with a question mark when I hold option and select it. I remade the recovery USB key on a MacBook Pro and that's showing the same thing (though Apple do say:
If the computer shipped with Lion, the external recovery drive can only be used with the system that created it.
It's got 3 year Apple care, so it will be brought to an Authorized Reseller in Dublin tomorrow who does Apple Care repairs, there are no Apple stores in Ireland.
I'm disapointed that Apple are still beta testing their products on users.
    Addational information:
    Model: A1369 EMC 2469 - MC965LL/A

I got my MacBook Air back on Tuesday. It has a new Logic Board. It hasn't crashed since the board has been replaced.
However, it now has two new problems: Wi-Fi & the Mini DisplayPort.
WiFi first. I'm not the only person with this problem. This was the 802.11 (Wi-Fi) adapter specs from System Information:
Card Type:     AirPort Extreme  (0x14E4, 0xE9)
    Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.100.98.75.18)
A ping to my home router looks like this:
That's when I can actually associate with an access point. I could not connect to the AP in work, a Motorola Netopia Model 2247-62 with WPA2.
I re-installed Lion, no luck. I followed Maayan's guide to downgrading my wireless drivers and I'm now able to connect to this Netopia AP, most of the time. Earlier it would not connect and console showed the following:
    Dec  1 15:38:48 localhost kernel[0]: AirPort_Brcm43224: Ethernet address 04:0c:xx:xx:xx:xx
Dec  1 15:38:48 localhost kernel[0]: AirPort: Link Down on en0. Reason 8 (Disassociated because station leaving).
Without rebooting this problem seems to have fixed itself.
Ping responses from the router are better, I'm only getting ~7% packet loss:
For reference, this is not a problem with the router, my friends MacBook Pro shows the following ping response over the same time period, at the same distance from the router:
The monitor I tried using was a Dell E171FP. When plugged in OSX Display preferences can see it. It worked for ~10 minutes and then went into power save mode. After unplugging/connecting and rebooting it remains in sleep mode.
I have tried plugging the monitor into another Mac (same VGA-MDP adapter) and the monitor works with no issue. I've turned off display sleep in Energy Saver preferences, no joy. I'll try another monitor later.
Minor (and humorous) side point, OSX no longer knows what my Serial Number is:

  • Built-In Core Audio latency wierdness...

    Hi all,
Could someone verify this for me please. Using just the Built-In inputs and outputs on a MacBook Pro:
    1. Connect something to the line input. Connect speakers or headphones to the MacBook Pro outputs.
    2. Start Logic. (Choosing Built-in core audio in audio prefs if necessary, with Software monitoring enabled. Use low-ish buffer size eg 256 samples.)
    3. Rec-Enable an audio track from line input.
    4. Check Audio throughput is as expected i.e. negligible latency.
    5. Unplug headphone/output.
    6. Re-Plug headphone/output
    7. Latency is now around 1 second!! What the...?
If anyone else can verify this I'd be most grateful. If it's just me (and I hope it is) then I can set about sorting it out myself with re-installs or whatever....
The strange thing is that audio instrument latency remains normal - it's just the audio input --> output chain that seems to be affected. Pressing play seems to temporarily reset the buffers again, although I am sometimes getting clicks, pops and jitters.
    Cheers,
    Bryan

    Hi,
Of course, I realize that the Built-In in/out is not sufficient for professional audio work.
I'm really trying to get to the bottom of serious general Core Audio problems that I've been experiencing with all my audio devices: Motu828mkII, IK-Multimedia Stealth Plug (A Guitar cable) and Built-In. You may remember this thread about latency issues when recalling Channel Strips saved as Performances.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4903770&#4903770
Basically, core audio becomes totally unstable after recalling a channel strip saved as a Performance. Latency increases dramatically - until you press play again, which resets the latency, although core audio remains unstable i.e. glitches and other strangeness. Identical behaviour when plugging/unplugging headphone out.
I do hope I'm not whining too much, it's just that I'd like to be able to use MBP to process live guitar, and at the moment it is unstable.
    Cheers,
    Bryan.

  • One possible cause of popping/crackling on imac

Like many others on this forum, I've been having a sound issue with my new imac intel 20". Occasionally, I was getting a pop or a crackle out of my left external speaker. It was pretty random--when I clicked a button, or when I scrolled in Safari. I tried playing with the volume settings. I turned the volume all the way up, and my speaker volume down. I unhooked my Guitar Port. I rehooked my Guitar Port. I replaced that with a Stealth Plug. Then back to the Guitar Port. Nothing took it away entirely. I also turned off wireless and bluetooth, with no benefit.
And then, by chance, I moved my speakers farther from my monitor. Since then, almost no pops or crackles at all. It's silent, like it should be. In fact, the only pop I got was when I pressed a button on my wireless phone, which to me indicates the issue.
My guess is the imac, being one huge computer tower/monitor in one, produces a significant amount of electrical interference. Any speaker that's not very well shielded would be subject to interference from the computer itself. I'm using the JBL Creatures, by the way.
So, just a note that may help someone down the road. If you're having this issue, try moving your external speakers away from the imac, especially the left side (which seems, on mine, much more sensitive).

Here's some interesting extra information. I switched to the internal speakers, to see if the clicking went away. It didn't. So I unplugged my external speakers entirely. No change. Then I turned them off. No change. So whatever it is, it's coming from the left side of the mac case. It's very quiet, and very intermitent. It also seems to be louder when I first start working, and gets quieter through the day.
    I have two theories.
The first is that it's the hard drive write head. Possible, but not likely.
More likely, I think, is someting that just can't be changed, and I think that's why Apple isn't helping. I think the plastic in the case for the imac is cracking as the imac heats up and cools down. Expansion and contraction. I think that's all it is, and there's nothing we can do about it. It's just the way the guy is designed.
Anyway, it's really not a big deal at all. It just threw me off when I first heard it. Right now, I'm burning along, and I haven't heard a click in a few minutes. I'm sure when I stop using the processor, it will cool, and the case will contract, and it will click.
Likely story? Any thoughts? Other experiments?

  • Soundcards - is it worth it? and LOOOP markers: HELP!!!

I've been using GB 3 for a while now and ant seem to record a decent bass on it. I'm using a Stealth plug USB adapter, which works fine on the guitar but the bass comes out really quiet. I'm wondering that it's something to do with the frequency response of the iMac, or if the Stealth plug just cant record bass very well?
So I'm wondering if there's any way around this. If I buy a USB Audio MIDI unit, will this solve the problem? Or do I need to monitor out of the back of the USB device and bypass the mac altogether on playback/use an external qudio recorder. I cant see it myself. DOes anybody have any ideas?
Second Question: Along the top of the Garage Band screen, the beat ruler, I think, i remember setting a start and end point for looping when recording or rehearsing a bit of the song. I remember reading a tutorial about this somewhere, which explained how to get rid of the markers when you finish with them. Can anybody point me to a tutorial, or explain how to use the loop markers (or whatever they're called).

To switch the cycle region on and off: press C.
You can use this feature to for multitake-recording (it records a new version each time it loops) and to exactly determine which part of the song will be exported. (And of course for a looping playback of a certain passage.)

My apologies. Your post jogged my little grey cells to the point that I did a few experiments. In essence, you are right. My plug-ins do not work with 8-bit greyscale images. I like to deliberately shoot B&W and have a Wratten #12 minus-blue filter on the lens--as I used to do with film cameras.
The raw files ( Fujifilm's .RAF) were converted in Adobe CR by checking off "Convert to Grayscale" under the fourth tab. In the future, I will do the B&W conversion in Photoshop with either Nik or Topaz plug-ins.
    Thanks for your input!

  • MacBook Pro 15' Core i7 Running Boot Camp Turns on in OSX fine, but in windows, whenever plug it in, the display goes black.

I have a 2011 MBP 15'. It has a core i7 2.4GHz 8gb of ram, and a HD 6750m. I rarely use Lion, I use Windows 7 Enterprise. I boot up my laptop and it turns on fine. Windows loads, but as soon as I plug the MagSafe adapter into the laptop, the display turns off.
Any ideas? I have already reset the SMC, and reset the PRAM and NVRAM. Neither worked.

Since you have a Mid2014 MBP, the USB should contain the Windows installer and BC drivers. Make sure your USB is a USB2 flash drive/disk. USB3 will fail.
There should be no hubs between the USB and the MBP and no other external peripherals connected to the Mac.
However at the last step when I click the "Install" button, my computer will restart and boot into OSX.
This indicates that the Mac cannot find the USB with Windows ISO and BC drivers.

  • How can I find a PDF plug in for Firefox 5 running on Mac OSX (10.6)

I recently installed an Update and received a message that my PDF Plug In for Firefox would be disabled, but that when the Update had been installed the Plug in would be enabled. This has not happened.
I am running Firefox 5 on Mac OSX (10.6)

I've tried the download three times. It reports that installation was successful, but when I use Firefox I still get only an option to download the .pdf; I still can't read it within the browser. This fix WAS for Firefox 5.0, right?

  • Free filter or/ plug-in set? for "OIL PAINT" - to download & add to Photoshop CS 5 (Mac OSX 10.8) ?

I have the CS 5 Suite instaled on 2 of my Macs (per Adobe licensing).  I upgraded (aftwrward, in 2012) just the Photoshop CS 5 app to Photoshop CS 6. There is a GREAT filter [then new] with PS CS 6 called "Oil Paint". I hope to be able to find out from anyone if there a free and compatible: filter, filter set,  or plug-in(s) set, so I can add the filter "OIL PAINT" - to download & add to Photoshop CS 5 (Mac OSX 10.8) ?
    Many thanks.

PS - I downloaded Pixel Bender - but that does not seem to provide what I am looking for..! In fact - after I installed it - it is NOT embedded in Photoshop CS 5, contrary to Adobe's claim that once you install it - it will be there in CS 5. Pixel Bender opens separately; and looks to be [only] a-user-definable add-on for PS CS 5+  [and done via custom user progamming changes - which on first glance did NOT seem easy to figure out. And I AM a programmer, beside being a highly creative person (for decades), and with all forms of digital media).

Please advise: I have the [circa 2010] 64-bit v.CS 5 Photoshop (et.al) -  that has been updated by Adobe a few times, by my choice- or by their automatic update method (which I try NOT to utilize, automatically: I like to know what it is that is being installed BEFOEit happens. Think the now unstoppable Google Chrome v32 for Macs. Unbelievable gall from Google; and it breaks anything that is supposed to run  /stream from the web in Apple Inc's QUICKTIME). Anyway: When I clicked on your provided link (above), it brought meto the PIXEL BENDER page, including numerous archived PLUG-IN downloads; Neither of the URIs (for a plug-in that enables OIL PAINT filter in PS CS 5)  - for any of the offered 64-bit Mac OXS plug-ins /downloads. Nothing happens. Can you please explain more; or perhaps what it is I am doing wrong? NOTE: I did not "sign in" at the time, to the Adobe site with my Adobe account ID /pwd; but then - I did not think I HAVE to sign in download a freely available plug-in.
    Thanks very much.

  • OSX Lion QuickTime Internet Plug-In causes high CPU load

    I have OSX Lion installed.
Now I have a CPU load between 80 to 130% caused by the Quicktime internet plug-in if I watch my ip-camera with Safari. Also I get no Audio out of my ip-camera anymore. In SnowLeopard everything was fine, Safari CPU load at 30%. What is wrong ? Can anybody help me ? It is an Y-Cam Knight SD and a MacMini core 2 Duo.
    Karsten Preussner from GERMANY

I had this same problem and couldn't get it to work at all. I tried to install the 3IVX plugin listed here and it didn't do anything. So I uninstalled it.
Then I thought to try my Macbook Pro and see if it was working on that computer, sure enough it was. I checked the HD/Library/Quicktime folder and it only had 4 items in it, whereas on the Mac Pro (that was not working) had 19 itmes in there. So, I moved all 19 out to a new folder and copied only the ones that were in the MBP. When I opened Safari IT WORKED!!!  NO MORE PLUGIN FAILURE.
So, I must have just had too many old things in the quicktime folder that was causing it to fail.
Here is a screenshot of my HD/Library/Quicktime folder contents.  The top folder shows the 4 items that should be in there (Perian is optional) and the bottom window in the screenshot shows all the stuff I previously had in there which caused the failure.
So If you are having this plugin failure, try removing all but these essentials from your HD/Library/Quicktime folder.  It worked for me!

Mac OSX supportsUser Authentication Mechanism (UAM) plug - ins from other manufacturers to control access to servers. To use a UAM, copy the plug - in to: Library/ Filesystems/ AppleShare/ Authenti

Man that is an ancient message.
The last time I saw that was using Mac clients connected to a Microsoft (Windows) Server running 'Services for Macintosh' which included the ability to act as an AppleShare compatible file server. Because Microsoft have a different security system for defining accounts which includes the 'domain' as well as username, the standard Mac AFP client did not know how to send that information.
Therefore Apple made it possible to installed a plugin in the form of a UAM or User Authentication Mechanism which added the ability to send this information to login to the fileserver.
    See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/101747
However Microsoft have long discontinued 'Services for Macintosh' and now the only way for a Mac to connect to a standard Windows Server is via SMB not AFP. I don't believe this plugin is available to download anymore.

  • Help! Lost my third party plug-ins after restoring OSX!

    Hi everyone
Thanks for the help in advance!
I restored my Mac last night to a previous time machine backup. When I tried to open Logic just now, it seems that all my plug-ins have disappeared! I don't see any of them listed on the menu and yet all of the component files still are in the right folders still. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks again for your time
PS. I'm using Logic pro 9 with OSX 10.6

You are looking in the wrong place probably. "Listed on the menu" What menu? Just create a Software Instrument track and click its I/O slot.

You will need to uninstall, run the Cleaner tool and reinstall you adobe applications. Adobe apps don't take kindly to inplace updates of the OS on Macs.
