StealthSwitch 2 or Keyboard Question

Hi, I am trying to help out someone who uses a MacBook Pro and recently bought something called a StealthSwitch 2 from ThinkGeek.com. It seems to work but it disables the keyboard on the MacBook when he plugs it in. Sorry to say he is a PeeSee user and says it works just fine on Windows. (Darn Wally's anyway) Just was wondering if anyone else has used this or knows why this would disable his keyboard.
Jhan

This should be taken up by the user him- or herself with the maker of the StealthSwitch 2. These forums support only Apple products.
It's quite likely that the problem is caused by a conflict with some other third-party software or hardware that the user has installed. The person who should be trying to resolve it is the one who knows what is installed on his or her computer and can follow up in person on any suggestions that are offered.

Choose Force Quit from the Apple menu and close Mail from there.

  • External keyboard questions

I want to buy an external keyboard for use when I'm not traveling. I am considering the Apple Wireless Pro keyboard and would welcome any opinions about that one or any others (wireless OR wired) you like or dislike.
Another question is about mice/trackballs. I was told that the wireless keyboards (at least the Apple) don't have USB, so if that's the case then essentially one is compelled to make two purchases, correct (keyboard and input device)?
As regards the mouse or trackball, if their control software isn't Intel-native, any reason why it wouldn't work as well on MBP as on PPCs? I've used Kensington in the past but they are, in my view, non-committal about if they plan to spport the Intel Macs re their Mouseworks software. I wonder how important it is whether they do as regards the performance of Mouseworks, I'd love to hear about any wireless trackballs anyone likes.
    Thanks for all the help.

The Apple wireless keyboard works great for me. There are many others out there, I'd look at Logitech, Kensington, Belkin, Microsoft, roughly in that order. The most important thing is to try them out first to see which ones feel good to you.
I agree about the battery issue with mice - I use rechargeable wireless mice for that reason. Cost a bit more, but well worth it to avoid the hassle of replacing batteries.
This battery issue isn't really present with keyboards. The batteries on my wireless Apple keyboards last for a few months at least. The amount of throughput pumped out by a keyboard (and therefore the amount of battery energy needed) is much, much less than a mouse. Moving your mouse a few inches on the screen sends many, many (x,y) events to the computer. Probably a lot more information than it took for me to type this entire post.
On the mouse software issue, I've never installed the software for mice on my Mac. I used to avoid it unless absolutely necessary on my Windows machines as well. They usually cause more trouble than they are worth, if they work at all. I use my Logitech mouse with the standard mouse driver on MacOS, no problems. The only reason you might want MacOS software support is if the mouse has tons of extra buttons that you really want to map to various actions. I can map many of the buttons on my Logitech mouse with the MacOS preferences panels (e.g., map buttons to trigger Expose and the Dashboard), but I only use 3 of them (left, right, and the scrollwheel button).
Kensington makes the best trackballs in my opinion. I haven't used one in a long time, but I was always happy with them.

  • T500 keyboard question

Hi.  I'm new to the ThinkPads -- I bought a T500 for work a month and a half ago, on the recommendation of a colleague, and have just now started to use it for my day to day work.
After about a week of use, I've noticed that the arrow keys, particularly the right key, has an annoying 'clack' to it, almost as if it's bottoming out.  It's much louder than the rest of the keyboard, which is fairly quiet.
I've 'googled' this issue and it appears that others complain about "keyboard flex" in the T500.  I'm no connoisseur, and I have a feeling much of what goes on in the discussion (such as http://lnv.lithium.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T500-Keyboard-and-Flex-How-bad-is-it/m-p/6072...) is beyond my reach.  My simple question is this: is my clacking on the right key a result of "keyboard flex"?
Also, regardless of the flex question, is there a way for me to resolve this key clacking without sending anything in for repair?  I've made the full switch to this laptop for work, so I really don't want to give it up if it's something I can fix on my own.

I have not experienced this specific noise, but do not think it would be related to the keyboard flex complaint.  That stems from a gap under the keyboard, mostly on the left side, making it feel spongey and sloppy.
You should look carefully at the keyboard there to see if that specific key is touching the case itself, something like that.  You might also remove the palm rest screws from the bottom, and carefully remove the palm rest and reset it and the keyboard to see that eliminates the noise.  With the palm reset removed, you should at least be able to see what is causing the noise.
If the keyboard is bad somehow, they can send you a new one and it won't be out of service.  It's pretty quick and easy to change it out, if necessary.  But an inspection before you call will probably help.

  • Simple keyboard question

In the midst of all the highly technical questions here's a real easy one. I know it exists because exactly what I want is on http://www.apple.com/keyboard/.
I ordered an english international keyboard from the apple shop thinking that it would be a standard US layout. However the layout is the same as my old (transparant version) dutch layout. See http://gallery.inflatablemouse.com/wronglayout.jpg.
I want the layout from the apple link above. Does anyone know what I need to order? I ordered an English layout before but cancelled that order because the confirmation said it was a UK keyboard. The only other option I had was the english international.
    Thx!

There is a chance that the UK keyboard is the one you want, but you'll have to firstly ask specifically to UK owners, so you'd better start a new thread with a "UK keyboard" mention in the title.
Why the UK keyboard would fit?
Because it is supposed to be the exact same as the US, the only visible difference being the hash (replaced with a £).
If I were you, I would ask the UK owners, whether their UK keyboard has the tilde on top-left position (with no key between the left shift key and the Z key),
or whether their Return key looks comfortably horizontal above the right-shift key, or ridiculously thin and vertical like on your picture of an International model.
Too bad this can't be checked directly on the Apple UK pages, as they use the same US pictures on every countries' Stores.
All you have to know, is whether the UK keyboard is a US with a pound sign, or an International with a pound sign.
If it's a US model with a pound sign, you can order one from Apple.

  • Samsung Stratosphere keyboard questions

    People,
Is anyone familiar with the Samsung Stratosphere phone? This is my first Android smartphone and I've run into a few problems. Is there a "enter" key on the keyboard? one isn't marked and my phone came with the wrong users manual, plus Verizon doesn't have a users manual posted on any of their pages either. Also, is there a way to go forward, or undo the back button, from the keyboard? Will a stylus work on these Androids, fat fingers suck.
Browser, how do you bookmark a page on one of these? list of favorites? will these phones accept .pdf's or .docx files in through the data port? I hope there is probably a word.docx reader app somewhere? I cant find it. am having trouble with the Sims card as well, is there some set-up step or is there some procedure to unlock it, unblock it, activate it or something
To be able to use the Cloud player so many people offer, is that feature limited to the ability to use WiFi? I understand that the cloud service is an online storage for things like music and or movies, what else can be stored online? I can'f find allot of info about this Cloud service.
I would appreciate even a partial answer to only one question, if anyone feels like responding, but I assume "chat" will be manned come monday and that should answer my questions? I think! thanks again

    Try going here,

You'll see a pdf link on the left side that says "device manual".

  • RESETTING IPHONE 4 KEYBOARD Question

What's up all my apple users...Im always tryping some dumb typo in my texts and the phones dictionary kept them so when I write sometimes it spells stupid stuff...and I was thinking about resetting my iPhones keyboard but I didn't want to reset it and then it'll go into the mode where I'll have to plug my phone into the CPU to start it up all over again...and I wanted to know will it disable the auto-correction option...any help and input will be useful and appreciated...thank you

Great thanks a million...and by the way I had another question if you don't mind helping out...sometimes on the web I save pics to my photo album by holding it for a few seconds until it gives me the option to save the image...and sometimes when they're in my album and I touch them to select them they don't come up I'll have to select the pic before it and slide over to the next one since it doesn't come up when I touch to open it and other times itll be just a white backround with "JPG" in it...is this just because the pics online are posted a certain way or is this the phone?

  • Mac Mini w/ Apple USB keyboard - question about home and end keys

I purchased a USB white Apple keyboard to go with my Mac mini.
My question concerns the home and end keys. When I put the cusor focus in a text field or text area, I would expect that hitting the home key would take me to the beginning of the line and hitting the end key would take me to the end of the line.
    That's not the case?
If a vertical scrollbar is used in the window, then the home key takes me to the top of the window and the end key takes me to the bottom of the window.
Please forgive me, I've been on a PC for the last 10+ years, so I thought I should ask.
What key or key combo moves you to the start and end of a text in a text field or text area?
    Thanks,

    923/3369
    Hi Todd,
Use the arrow keys with the command key (⌘):
command + left arrow -> beginning of the line
command + right arrow -> end of the line
command + arrow up -> beginning of the text
command + arrow down -> end of the text
Explore also the option key (⌥) possibilities, with the arrow keys:
    very handy too.
Yes, the Home, End, Pageup and Pagedown keys are for controlling the whole document, not the text itself.

  • Another keyboard questions

I know this question may have been ask a lot. But, I can't seem to get my garageband to recognize my yamaha YPG-225 keyboard. Any ideas?
    thanks

I think the experts here will be asking you for more information, such as what interface you are using, etc.
I had a similar problem with getting my Roland FP3 to speak to my iMAC using Cakewalk MIDI-interface. It turns out that the driver software that came with Cakewalk does not support Snow Leopard so had to go to Roland's website to download the appropriate software. Worked perfectly after that.

  • Keyboard question fce vs fcp

    Hello:
Presently, I'm using FCE. I intend to update to FCP for my next project. My question: Are the keyboard functions the same for FCP as FCE? (my understanding is one can program FCP keyboard functions) Or should I invest in another K&B cover for both my IMac G5 and Macbook Pro?? Thanks in advance,
    Russ

Check out the two links on this thread to see the FCP6 and FCE shortcuts:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1973457&tstart=0
Pretty much all of the FCE shortcuts are applicable to FCP, but there are other ones in FCP that don't appear in FCE.

  • New alluminum keyboard question

Is there a way to permanently enable the function keys without hitting the "fn" key first? I use a program that is function key intensive and would like to be able to disable the apple shortcuts only when I run this program.
    Thanks,
    Mike

I answered my own question and it's in the keyboard menu where you can select to use all function keys as their standard keys.

  • This is semi-unrelated but.. (keyboard question)

external keyboard to be specific so I guess it's still considered "expanding"
Well, I knew from the start when I got my MBP that I wanted an external moue and keyboard and to ultimately use this as my desktop computer with an external display also.
    But........
Does Apple have/will come out with the new aluminum keyboard with the number pad and make it wireless? I only see the wired one with the number pad as of now.
    All help's appreciated .

Only Apple knows what future products it will make. We have no idea what will be until Apple releases the product.
FWIW, you've posted this question in the wrong forum. There are separate MacBook Pro forums. This is a Mac Pro forum.

  • Music Creation - Keyboard Question.

Alright, I've been wanting to buy one for a while to learn, espeically after I found out that GarageBand has lessons and allows you to see how you play as you learn. I've been torn between getting http://store.apple.com/us/product/H7188ZM/A/m-audio-keystation-mini-32?fnode=57# compatibility and http://store.apple.com/us/product/H9325LL/A/line-6-mobile-keys-25-controller?fno de=57 but I have a few questions:
First, how are the lessons in GB for someone whose looking to learn?
Second, I'm obviously leaning more towards the mini due to price - does this have the option of recording plays in lessons with GB?
Also, I heard that the keyboard (referring to the one in question two, doesn't make a sound unless transmitted through the USB) is that true?
I do have a regular keyboard, I'm just looking for somthing to h

First off I'm a terrible keyboard player but that won't stop me for giving my opinion.
If you are a beginner I think you should have a keyboard with standard size keys.
Next there are Midi controller keyboards, these only output a Midi signal and need something to turn the signal into notes and voices (sound). There are keyboards that have their own voices (and usually have a speaker) to play sounds and Midi controller to control external Midi so they do both.
Something you may also want to think about is usb and self power keyboards. If you want to ever use Midi keyboard with ios devices then a keyboard that can get power from something other then usb is a good idea and in some cases be needed.

  • Perfect Keyboard Question!!  Using 2 Bluetooth Keyboard in ios5 at the same time

    Hello People,
As a Retailer, I love CRM (customer relationship Management) Systems, and I've a software team that programs HTML5 based crm solutions for us.. Why HTML5, because of ipad 2 of course...
    ok Technical question! ready?
Can ipad use 3 bluetooth HID keyboards at the same time?  you'll ask why?
    Problem is
We're planning to use Motorola Symbol CS3070 Barcode Scanner http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzIbRJiQD24
And at the same time Apple wireless keyboard for desktop http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PBswYZ2JBs
So the problem is ipad 2 reconises CS3070 as HID keyboard! Wualla
Can it be done?  P.S : There is no escape key on CS3070
If this can not be done, i'll be forced to use all-in one pc 's which are heavy and not mobile...
And also this will be a problem when i am mobile with the barcode reader and ipad since again there will be no on-screen keyboard.
    Thanks
    Now thats ipad crazy idea

By the way Correction!!!  CS3070 has an disconnect button so it works as it is with the on screen keyboard. connection time is perfect 2 seconds, but disconnection time is 20 seconds on my ipad 1, so do you think ipad2 or future ipad 3 will be faster to disconnect thank you
