SteelSeries Engine and GT70-20k WS

I have a GT70-20k WS and I've heard that you can use the Steelseries engine to control the keyboard but I can't figure out how to get it to work. Does anyone know how to get the engine to detect the keyboard?

I think steelseries engine is for MSI gaming notebook not workstation.
You can only find SSE download link on 800M series gaming notebook.

  • GT70 2PE - Steelseries Engine Not Working

    Hello,
I have been having trouble with my laptop regarding the Steelseries Engine for my backlit keyboard on my MSI GT70 2PE (880m 8GB) with Windows 7 Professional installed.
The steelseries engine cannot switch to other modes other than the standard or music/equalizer effect. If it is changed to anything else, the keyboard no longer lights up.
I've been having this problem ever since I got it back from RMA after sending it in for repair due to my sound card going bad within a month (in which apparently they had to replace the entire motherboard). I sent it back in about a month ago after discovering the problem the day after I recieved it back from RMA. I didn't get much of an update until I called MSI about it and later called me back on it days later. They said my "settings were incorrect" and that they fixed it. They said that one of the other problems I also had mentioned to them was that pressing FN + "+" or "-" on the numpad turning all my backlit keys white and then getting dimmer/brighter was caused because I had Windows 7 installed even if I also didn't had that problem until I got it back.
This isn't the first time it's been sent to RMA. The first time was sent to XoticPC because the island-style keyboard they had wasn't compatible (had wrong function key icon placements) and that the one of the three installed mSATA SSD's went bad. The 2nd RMA was for the sound card going bad. And then the 3rd being send back for this problem in which wasn't fixed at all.
My laptop's been in RMA more than double than the time I've actually used the laptop (got my laptop in July of this year). It feels like my laptop's been nothing more than a flop/lemon.
    I have tried the following:
    - Uninstalling and Reinstalling the Steelseries Engine
    - Uninstalling and Reinstalling SCM
    - Reinstalling Windows 7 and Drivers
    - Removed the battery from laptop along with power cord to reset the EC.
    - Flashing firmware for windows 7 backlit keyboard on the MSI support/download for my model.

I am aware of the active layers and what the Audio mode does. I have Layer 3 and 4 do wave and breathing and those do not light up the keyboard at all regardless of what colors I choose and save (and of course have it as the active layer). I tried pressing FN + "+"/"-" to be sure and still no avail.
I did discover something though. Oddly enough I installed KLM makes the keyboard function properly. But when I try using the steelseries engine (and close out KLM to prevent conflicts), it still does not work. Could it be a possibility of the wrong motherboard (since they had to replace the motherboard on my RMA and that's when the issue appeared) being installed or anything?

  • SteelSeries Engine is really a fantastic gaming tool!

I just got a GT60 gaming laptop with SteelSeries Engine, and this feature is really fantastic!
We could setup macros for different games with about 74 keys, others only got 10~20 keys.
We could setup keypress macros, text macros, launch program control, and disable this key.
We could have 4 layers of keyboard for 4 usages or 4 types of games macros, others cannot.
We could setup 4 kinds of backlit style with 4 layers keyboard.

the delay editing is also a terrific function which is easy to fine tune and "human-like" macro key-in.
I believe there is few bundled software in the market can support function like that.

  • MSI GT70 2OD-831XBE AZERTY Steelseries engina 2? (keyboard)

i downloaded steelseries engine 2 for my keyboard but it still doesn't show anything, steelseries keeps saying that i need to connect a steelseries engine on the program itselfs.

Where did you download SS Engine from?

  • Remap PGUP/Home and PGDN/End keys using Steelseries Engine

I just got an MS60 Ghost Pro.  I didn't pay attention to it before I bought it, but the document location keys are all lumped together.  I use this laptop for work and play, so having to push extra keys to use Home and End is extremely awkward.
Is there a way to remap the PGUP key so it just does Home, and the PGDN key just does End using the Steelseries Engine?  Ideally, I'd like to switch the mapping so PGUP does Home and Fn + PGUP does Page Up.  I tried to do it with a macro and it kept saying "Reserved."  Has anyone else dealt with this issue?  Couldn't find a quick answer through a Google search.  Thx.

To get what you need, you have to remap key function in two different keyboard layers and I do not think it would increase your work efficiency. You can set PGUP key as "home" in a layer and set PGUP key as its default in another layer and switch between layers when needed. OR you can assign another key as PGUP function and set PGUP key as home key in one layer which will be more efficient in my opinion, then you do not need to switch layers.
When you see "reserved" in keypreses column, you are one step left to complete the setup. Just goto Profiles at the left hand column and press save button.

  • GE70 Apache and Steelseries Engine

So I have had my computer for quite a while now and the Steelseries engine was working fine, until one day the Engine stopped working, so I had to reinstall it. But when I had reinstalled it, it had said "Please Connect A Steelseries Engine - compatible device to start". The keyboard still works fine and it glows but for I'm just not able to change the colors anymore. Please help!

  • SteelSeries Engine on previous G-series laptops?

    Hi,
I'm wondering if we could expect SSE to be available on "older" laptos, eg. gt60 2OD.
Searching config file in order to see if I could add my keyboard, I've found a db file in C:\Users\[USER]\AppData\Roaming\SteelSeries\SteelSeries Engine\SS.db where we can see this:
Sadly, GT60 2OX series keyboards HWID are something like ACPI\VEN_MSNB&DEV_1001 (standard microsoft keyboard driver) and not HID\* or USB\* if I'm not mistaken.
Is there any physical difference between the -2PX series keyboard and the -2OX, 'cause they use exactly the same FW...?
Do you think it will be possible to mod some drivers/db/reg keys to make our keyboards be recognized by the engine? Or should we wait for a firmware/driver/idontknow update from msi/steelseries?

How about the GT70 2OD Dragon Edition 2 laptops??
Sorry, but only the latest 2PX machines, I believe, will have support for the Steel Series Engine.

  • Steelseries engine for GX60 3CC

were can I get steelseries engine for GX60 3CC?

SteelSeries Engine only supports on certain models and sad to say that GX60 3CC isn't in the list, so that's why you can't find the download link anywhere.

  • SteelSeries Engine 3 lacks support for Sensei MLG mouse

    Greetings,
We recently purchased a GT80 Titan-001 notebook which uses SteelSeries Engine 3 to configure the special features of the Titan's built-in SteelSeries mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX switches. When we connected our SteelSeries Sensei MLG mouse to the Titan, we were disappointed to discover that version 3 of the SteelSeries Engine is not compatible with it. We had to install SteelSeries Engine 2 to support this top-of-the-line gaming mouse.
Fortunately, both SteelSeries Engines 2 and 3 can be run at the same time. But it strikes us as wasteful and weird that SteelSeries would drop support for the Sensei MLG from its current engine---especially since this used to be their best mouse. It's still an amazing mouse and we wouldn't trade it for any other!
    Kind regards, David

  • Battling to order a GT70-20K

    Dear MSI
Dear MSI I have been trying for two weeks to get an answer from your agents in South Africa regarding the purchase of the GT70-20K workstation. I understand there is no stock in country but have offered payment upfront, along with any air freight costs incurred should it require special shipping. I am yet to hear back from any of them. I am becoming quite frustrated as I need the workstation for my work. I am currently using a on board graphics card with Solidworks and it is completely unsatisfactory. I was quoted for the workstation by one of your suppliers here, only to be told upon me placing the order that the machine was no longer available. The time period between quote and attempted order was 1 day. Please can someone give me feedback as I am being left in the dark and want to order the workstation ASAP. Thank you.

    Hi Cayman1021
Yes, I have contacted several of the listed direct dealers & their supply chain service providers to ask if I can custom order the unit from Taiwan and have it shipped to me. Also ensuring them if it was possible I would pay upfront and take on the airfreight costs.
The only feedback I have gotten is from some of them, is what other models are currently on the water destined for SA which doesn't answer my question.
Unfortunately the other models being shipped either fall short of the GT70-20K specs or are better, but out of my budget range. Hence my attempt at securing the best workstation that I can afford which is the GT70-20K.
Should you wish to discuss this further please contact me on [email protected]
    Thanks

  • [Solved] SteelSeries Engine not available

Hey evryone, I just bought new new GS Stealth and it seems that the steelseries engine is not installed on my Laptop. I already tried the Software from steelseries itself but that does not work with the laptop keyboard. Any idea how I can get steelseries running for my laptop as well or how/where to get the software?
    Thanks in advance!
    Feedback much appreciated

hi, first you have to check your GS70 Stealth  graphic version , only Nvidia 800 series support SSE (on GS70 it will be gtx870m/gtx860m)
and the SSE version on SteelSereis is different than MSI gaming NB version, you have to download it from MSI website
    http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GS70_2PE_Stealth_Pro.html#download
besides, this SSE also control the keyboard backlight behavior, so you must remove the KLM app from machine, or you will have two software controling the backlit.

  • Steelseries Engine

    Hello everyone,
I own an Msi Ge 70 2PE Apache pro laptop and my SteelSeries engine's version is currently 2.8.417.28061.
SteelSeries have currently released a 3.3 version of their software and i therefore was wondering if i can update to the latest version.
Also, do I incur any risks for doing so? as when I uninstalled SCM some of my fn+ combinations stopped working and i had to re install it.

GE70 2PE supports SteelSeries Engine2 (2.8.450.22786), if you use the SteelSeries Engine 3, it may have some conflicts between SteelSeries Engine 2 and 3.
You must install SCM to keep all function keys and quick launch buttons to work properly, so you should keep it installed.

  • Steelseries engine 3 works for gs60 keyboard?

I convinced my friend to get this sexy laptop instead of a macbook.  he got a new one with 17 inch monitor gtx860 graphics card, i7 4710.  its not gs60 but pretty much the exact same thing.  with the led keyboard.  will steelseries engine 3 work for it? or do i need steelseries engine 2?

yes since i just tried the steel series engine 3 and it tells me to connect a steelseries device to laptop/pc so yeah it does not work for keyboard yet unless MSI takes new version and customize it to work with keyboard

  • Steelseries engine doesn't recognize gs60 ghost

    Hello,
I bought my gs60 in June and I love it so much. Really great laptop in so many ways. One of my issues is that the steelseries engine tells me to "please connect a steelseries engine - compatible device to start". According to the sticker on my laptop, the keyboard is by steelseries. I've tried uninstalling it and re installing already. Anyone have this problem or know how to fix it? I have version 2.8.450.22786 as of this moment. Thank you!

I'm assuming you downloaded the absolute latest version of the ENGINE from the Steelseries website like I did. I fixed my issue by getting the latest supported version from the official GS60 driver/utilities download page.

  • SteelSeries Engine Start to System Tray

I've tried disabling the SteelSeries Engine on Windows start up, but two or three reboots later the software starts up again automatically and the option to Launch on Startup is checked again.  How does someone disable it permanently?
Or, since that shuts off the whole Engine and I kind of like the colors on the keyboard, is there a way to start the software minimized to the system tray in Windows 8.1?  Having the whole window come up whenever I start up is kind of annoying.  I have not been able to find an option to start to tray.
SteelSeries Engine 2.8.445.23476 if it matters.

If you disable the SSE program from runing your keyboard backlight wont function it will either remain off or stuck as RED color so SSE must be runing for it to be in a color you want
Also i should auto minimize after first boot :/
