Stencil Luma is acting funny when moving 3D camera.

Hi Everyone.
I've got some .PSD images in a layer. About 9 images. They are images of text I created in Photoshop and imported into Motion.
They are scattered around in 3D space.
They all sit in front (in 3d space) of a large image of a man.
I want to have the letters reveal the man and anything that is not letter to get masked out.
Does that make sense? Where the letters are white... the man shows through. Where the letters are black the man does not show through.
What I did was group all the text images into one group and I put a Stencil Luma Blend mode on it. It works great.... however, when I try to animate the camera to zoom into the images the Stencil Luma group starts acting weird. It works fine zooming in up to about 1/2 way of my animation. Then once the camera gets in the mix of the images their is 1 frame where the images distort and then vanish.
If I leave the Blend Mode on Normal... the text images stay perfect... but they loose the ability to mask the image due to their Normal Blend Mode.
Any ideas? Does this make sense? I can post the animation online if it will help you all to see it.
Thanks in advance
Fraky

Anyone have any suggestions. I'm stumped on this and am at a point where I can proceed no further.
Here is a link. I've uploaded the video footage for review.

  • Why does a Flash movie whose frames were just cut & pasted on a new frame act funny when tested?

Why is that whenever I cut a frame, clear the frames in a timeline, paste it in new frame then test the clip, the whole thing starts to act funny?
I just don't understand why that happens - it's supposed to run smoothly though it's on a new frame, right? Is there a way to maintain the movie clip when tested though some frames were cut then pasted on a new frame?

I should've posted up screenshots of my project in the message but I thought the site wouldn't allow to post external links.
Anyway, when the frames are "as is", the file runs normally when tested...

  • GNOME 3 acting funny when using RAM heavily

    Hi,
I've been noticing that when I open many tabs in Chromium (and thus, being a very memory intensive app, it puts a lot of load into the RAM) GNOME 3 starts acting funny. Letters from labels disappear, such as the top bar menues are gone. The overall UI seems to work fine, except rounded corners and basically any letter in the Shell interface (Metacity labels and inner window content work fine).
This is a freshly installed system. 16 GB of swap and around 8 GB of RAM, so plenty of room for Chromium to have hundreds of tabs anyways. My graphics card is a 8800 GTS, with less than 256 MB (which could also be the issue).
But seriously, this is why I hate GNOME Shell so much. It looks alpha state! These kinds of bugs should not happen in a production environment
What can I do to help me troubleshoot the source? Any quick and dirty hacks?
I'll probably end up switching GNOME with Xfce if this keeps up like this

Pse wrote:How much free RAM is available when this starts happening? 8GB is a lot of RAM to fill with tabs. And even then, you have swap, so you shouldn't miss anything. This looks like some sort of bug. Are you sure this is Gnome's fault? It may be triggering a bug somewhere else.
I'm pretty sure it's Gnome's fault, however, I'm unable to replicate this.
I know it's Gnome's fault because, although not corrupting the labels again, the system feels somehow slower from time to time, in a direct relationship to how many Chromium tabs there are open (which was what caused the bug in the beginning) or otherwise, how many different app windows (so it's not just Chromium, but the whole system).
Could my system become slower when the RAM is 85% full than when it is only 25% full? Does that even make sense? Assuming swap is not being used (I have set it up so that it's only being used when RAM is 90% full or more).

  • Imac late 2013 laggy gaming when moving camera

Hey guys, on my 2nd late imac 2013 27 inch with the gtx 775m. I replaced my first imac because of yellow tinted screen....2nd screen has same yellow tint, if not worse so I decided to just keep it.
Anyways, with my first imac I got a week ago I noticed that in games on OSX, even with framerates of up to 100 (WoW, portal 2, TF2...) I would still get really choppy lag when moving the camera around my character, whether first person or not. I thought it might be fixed in my new one, but I get the same issue. looking at the GTX 775m specs there should be no frame rate dips at all in these games, and there isn't when running FPS monitoring. Is there a reason why the camera lags when turning it? I'm just confused, it really makes playing games difficult.
PS. This was happening on mountain lion and now mavericks as well.
Thanks and have a good one guys.

I hate the yellow tint! Unacceptable for designer.....

  • [SOLVED] Windows lag when moved...?

Using Xfce, with and without composite, the windows lag when being moved. It's like the whole window isn't held together properly; the window movement is kind of choppy, but still smooth, if that makes any sense.
This makes for a rather bad experience. And I'm clueless as to what causes this. It's certainly not my HW:
    CPU: i5-2500k
    GPU: GTX 460
    RAM: 8GB, 1600mhz
Also, even more disturbing, is that when moving a window there seems, if you look closely enough, to be a white after-effect where text and the pointer was a few moments ago. As an example: If I grab a window and move it in a small circle, this happens.
    Any ideas? Running nuts here...

Okay I'll try but I can't guarantee the completeness. Here are all the steps I managed to recollect:
    First install:
    compiz, compiz-decorator-gtk, ccsm, compiz-fusion-plugins-main
the decorator and plugins are somewhat optional but will provide you with gtk window borders and more options.
then edit the following paragraph in /etc/xdg/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-session.xml
    <property name="Client0_Command" type="array">
    <value type="string" value="compiz"/>
    <value type="string" value="ccp"/>
    </property>
(This replaces xfwm4 with compiz as the default window manager for Xfce)
    Then after running
    sudo nvidia-xconfig
add the following line to the "Device" section within /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    Option "TripleBuffer" "True"
    also add
    nvidia-settings -l
    to your autostart.
Now open up ccsm and within "General Options" on the tab "Display Settings":
tick the option for "Sync to VBlank"
UNtick the option "Detect refresh rate"
drag the slider for the refresh rate to match the refresh rate of your display (60 Hz in my case)
Go back to the main page of ccsm and open "Window decoration". Insert the following line into the "command" field:
    gtk-window-decorator --replace
(This will provide you with your gtk borders on compiz otherwise you would have to use emerald)
On the main page of ccsm tick "Move windows" under "Window Management". (Otherwise you won't be able to move windows around at all)
Restart your system and it should load compiz now. If compiz is acting funny you can always temporarily switch back to xfwm by running "xfwm4 --replace".
Note that you will have the best video experience with mplayer (no GUI).
Consider using vdpau as video output with the corresponding codecs if you don't plan to play 10bit H264 videos, otherwise stick to xv.

  • "signatures" in Mail acting funny...

In Mail... since my last update, the "signatures" have been acting funny... The default comes up, but when I change the signature, the default stays there too!

    Hello abachelorgirl,
It sounds like you would like to set a default signature for one of your email accounts.  You will want to verify a few things in the Signatures Preferences.
In the left colum, you will want to make sure the email address in question is highlighted.  The middle column should then list the name or label for that signature, and the right column is where you can edit the signature.  I also recommend making sure the signature label is selected in the Choose Signature field when you have your email address highlighted in the left column.
You can also drag the signatures in the middle column to the email address in the left column if you need to move the signature to a different account.
You can find more information here:

  • Strokes are acting funny. Way too thin for the point size.

I'm on 5.5 and all of a sudden, when I apply a stroke to a photo frame, I'm not getting the width that the settings say.
For example, I place a picture on the page, I scale it, say 50%, then put a stroke on it. I barely can see it. I can put a 44 pt. stroke on it, and it looks like it's about 7 pts wide. I tried assigning it to the inside, outside, middle, same thing.
It's also doing that with the rounded corner trick. Click the yellow box, and start sliding a corner piont, and it's barely visible. I can assign a .5" rounded corner to the frame, and I can barely see the roundness.
It's crazy, and completely grinding my work to a halt.
    Any ideas?

just normal, has no bearing on document size.
If I just draw a box with the box tool, strokes are normal.
It's only when I place a photo and reduce it in size do the strokes act funny.
It clearly has something to do with reducing the images.
I see there is a preference for  scaling objects, and I tried both settings.
But the strokes act funny either way.

  • When moving from a list of threads view to a thread would be nice to jump to last thread read.

When moving from a list of threads being viewed to a thread, it would be nice to jump to last thread read or first unread thread.
Sometimes the threads get rather long.  Sometimes I haven't read a thread in awhile & I forget where I have left off reading a thread. It would be nice to have an icon to click on to move to your last read post or the first non-read post.
Seems this could be implemented in javascript without too much problem.  Might be a problem of when to get rid of the tracking data.
    Robert

This would be a new capability.   I didn't know you could jump directly to the last post in a thread by clicking on the posters name in your discussions.  However, I am interested in jumping to the first post that I haven't read.
Since writing my original post, I realize that software doesn't know what posts I have read. Lets say there are are 26 posts in a thread.  Lets assume these are divided into three pages with at most 10 items in a page:
    page 1 -- a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j
    page 2 -- k, l, m, n, o, p, q, r, s, t
    page 3 -- u, v, w, x, y, z
The software know that I have viewed the first three pages.  It doesn't know what post on the pages I have read.  The software would need to assume I have read all the available posts on a page.
Now lets assume that 12 more post were added.  This results in:
    page 1 -- a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j
    page 2 -- k, l, m, n, o, p, q, r, s, t
    page 3 -- u, v, w, x, y, z, aa,bb,cc,dd
    page 4 -- ee,ff,gg,hh,ii,jj,kk,ll
It would be nice if I could go to aa.
Jumping to the last post in the thread doesn't hack it. You have to spend a lot of time finding where you left off your reading.
Intesting, the list of your posts on your homepage usings the term Last Activity were as Your Discussions uses the term Last Post. The terminalogy should be the same & should act the same.  For the existing capability of going the the last post, I was thinking of Goto Last Post.

  • Screen Sharing started acting funny with both iChat and Back-to-my-Mac

For some reason my Screen Sharing, whether via iChat or BTMM, started acting funny: I still connect, but now my cursor shows up about 1" to the right of where it's actually pointing (i.e., if I position the cursor on one icon on the large size Dock, and click, it will start the icon to its left); and when I move the cursor, sometimes it appears followed by a trailing stream of cursors; finally, if I can manage to move a window on the screen, it looks like only half or so of the window moves, and the rest of the window stays put.
Anybody else experiencing this problem? Thanks in advance.

Ralph, you are awesome! Someone on the Remote Mac had done a <ctr>l plus <alt> plus "+" and zoomed up the screen once or twice. When I turned Zoom off in System Preferences Universal Access, things went back to being ok.
Thanks so much for the advice. I live in Texas and the remote iMac (with my octogenarian parents) is in Iowam so you saved me!

    Hi paulsaundersdds,
What type of file are those fax documents? Are they PDF files? What are you using to open them with--Acrobat or Reader?
And, what happens when you try to open them? Do you get an error message? If so, what is it?

  • IPad Mini with retina display acting funny

My iPad Mini with retina display's screen is acting funny. It isn't cracked, but the bottom half keeps flickering and has green line running through it. It also has a bit of a milky color to it, and you can see small, individual white lines. Would I be able to get my screen replaced? If so, how much would it cost?

    Hey there Allicat18,
It sounds like you are seeing some unexpected activity when using your iPad Mini. I would start with resetting the device with these steps:
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset

  • Glitch when moving folders on my desktop

When moving folders around on my desktop, there are some positions on the grid that act "glitchy". When trying to drop a folder in some places, it will revert the folder back to its original position on the desktop or will push it to another position on the desktop. It's as if there is a hidden file on the position I want to move the folder to when there isn't. What's going on?

    1. Control (right) click on your desktop and open desktop settings.
    2. Check to make sure that the Icon size is set somewhat lower than the Grid spacing.

  • Satellite A200 crashing when moved or when CPU usage is too high

Alright so fairly recently my Toshiba Satellite A200 has started crashing whenever I pick up the laptop or run any processes that take the CPU usage up to around 100%.
This essentially means no 3D rendering or games and no running Photoshop and iTunes at the same time etc. Here's the kicker though, it only happens when the laptop is plugged in and not when on battery power alone. I've already tried using a different AC adapter and I cleaned off the hard drive for a fresh install of Windows 7 neither of which fixed the issue. I even went so far as to update the BIOS.
I am not fairly determined that this is solely a hardware issue but I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions as to which part may be acting up on me. Like I said it still works like a dream when running on battery power.

    hi Cyborg771,
it seems to be related to the ac-in jack..
is there any change or symptom when moving the ac-plug?
also the circuit that is managing the power supply could be the "bad guy"
if the contact to the powerboard isnt good, the circuit starts to check the state every 10ms..this will slow down your machine...
    how old is your notebook?
    still got warranty on?
a solution may be to solder/fix/change the jack
    or see a servicepartner
