Step by step procedure for uploading photos from iPhone to a PC

I have over 4000 pictures taken with iPhone, but still not yet be able to upload them to a PC.
1) When connected to my IBM Thinkpad X40 with Windows XP, it says "device not on" when iPhone is off, and says "device is in use" when iPhone is on.
2) When connected to my IBM Thinkpad Lenovo T60p, it says "camera detected succssefully", but just does not upload.
Can any one help me with a specific stepwise procedure? Do we need to install some special iPhone driver for the uploading? As you know, the iPhone manual says that the iTune is only one way sync for album.
Many thanks,

Hi Nathan,
Thanks for the reply. I could see "Apple iPhone" when I plugged it in (not as a removable device), but it alwayse says "the device is being used" when I turn the iPhone on, and says "device is off" when I leave the iPhone off, which is a paradox. What mode do you leave your iPhone on when you do the transfer? Any setting is needed in iPhone itself? Do I need to install a specific driver for iPhone (I do not recall one with the purchase)?
Regards,
Jensen

The following link has 2 methods for importing photos to a Mac (not counting Photo Stream). Are you using iPhoto or Image Capture? If you follow the steps in the link for that method, what exactly happens that doesn't allow the upload? iOS: Import personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer

    Any help appreciated.

If you want help you’ll need to give us more information. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Cannot upload photos from iphone to iphoto

Since upgrading my Mac to OS Mavericks I have lost the facility of uploading photos from my iPhone to iPhoto.
I have iPhoto 8.1.2 and my phone runs iOS7 with iCloud.
Some advice has said refer to iPhoto Preferences and use the iCloud link there, but there is no iCloud link in my Preferences.  I have tried to upgrade iPhoto, but discovered that it is only possible through iLife and I don't need all of that.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Mar 20, 2014 7:15 AM (in response to JdinPa)
I figured out the fix for the Mac users having this problem. I connected my iPhone to my iMac and started iTunes. A dialogue came up in iTunes, I OK'd that and then OK'd the usual "Do you trust this Mac" that comes up on my iPhone.
Suddenly Image Capture launched itself and there were all my photos, ready to be downloaded.

  • Can't upload photos from iPhone or camera disk after installing iPHoto 9

I installed iPhoto 9 from iLife 11 last week Since the installation (and subsequent installation of 9.0.1), I have not been able to upload photos from my iPhone 4 nor my camera SD card to my iPhoto library. When I plug in my iPhone or camera disk, I just get a spinning beachball plus the spinning spoke wheel in iPhoto and when I go to Force Quit, it always says NOT RESPONDING. Any ideas? I didn't lose any photos on the install just can't add any photos. I'm going to see a Mac Genius tomorrow.

No, remember this was a test. It tells us that iPhoto is workign correctly, but that your Library isn't.
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild from automatic back up.

My photos from my iPhone 4s are not uploading to my computer, windows 8 when I connect my iPhone to the computer.
Are the photos supposed to upload automatically on icloud or do I have to connect the iPhone to the computer?

  • Cannot upload photos from iPhone to iPhoto (NOT Camera Roll)

I just came back from vacation and stored all the photos I took with my digital camera on my iPhone so I could clear out the camera and continue using it. I have ovr 1,000 pics and videos combined on my iPhone that I cannot seem to import onto iPhoto. I have no problem uploading to iPhoto the pics from my iPhone that I take using my iPhone but cannot figure out how to get the other pictures off. Can anyone help? Thanks!

I just came back from vacation and stored all the photos I took with my digital camera on my iPhone so I could clear out the camera and continue using it.
Also, if you stored them by syncing in iTunes, that was a bad idea. The pictures are downsized when they are synced to the phone, and all you can recover are low-res copies of the originals. The iPhone is NOT a good backup mechanism.
If for some reason you have no access to the computer where you originally downloaded the photos from the camera, there are third-party programs that will recover (low-res, downsized) photos from the phone. Google PhoneView or TouchCopy.

  • How do I upload photos from iPhone to Mac using Photos

I have photos on my iPhone that I wish to upload to my iMac and then share using Skype. How do I do that now that my iPhoto library has been converted to Photos?
    (1) I do not want to send my photos via iCloud
    (2) I do not want to copy any photos from my iMac to my iPhone.
Why did this get so complicated? Why can't I drag and drop?
    OSX Yosemite 10.10.3

See the instructions quoted below from Photos help https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.0/?lang=en#/pht6c803201
Import photos from a camera or iOS device
Connect a camera, iPad, iPhone, or other iOS device to your computer with a USB cable.
Make sure the camera or device is turned on and the camera is set to the correct mode for importing photos. For information on which mode to choose, see the instructions provided with your camera. If your camera has a “sleep” mode, make sure it’s disabled or set to a time increment long enough to allow your images to download.
Open Photos (if it isn’t already open), then click Import in the toolbar.Note: The Import button only appears when a camera or storage device is connected.Photos displays all the photos and videos on the device. You can choose to import a selection of photos or all the new photos on the device.
    Do one of the following:
Import all new photos: Click Import All New Photos.
Import a selection of photos: Click the photos you want to import, then click Import Selected.
If a message asks whether you want to delete or keep the photos on your camera after they’re imported, click Delete Items to remove the photos, or click Keep Items to keep them on the camera.Photos imports your photos. To cancel importing, click Stop Import.
When all photos have been imported, disconnect the camera or device from your computer.
Imported photos appear in the Last Import album in Albums view.
If you have photos taken with a film camera, you can import them into Photos by converting them to digital files (using the Image Capture app and a home scanner). After importing the digital files into Photos, you can edit them and add them to albums and projects, just as you can any other digital photos. You can also use the Image Capture app to set Photos to open automatically whenever you connect your camera. For more information, open Image Capture in the Applications folder, then choose Help > Image Capture Help.
Tip: You can change the date and time of scanned images in Photos; select the image and choose Image > Adjust Date and Time.

  • How to upload photos from iPhone to Mac

My iPad seems to have automatic update of photos from my iPhone but not from my phoen to my Mac. How do i do this please?

If your iPad has automatic upload of photos in the Camera Roll to iPhoto on your Mac, this means you have Photo Stream enabled with your iCloud account settings on your iPad.
Do you have the same enabled on your iPhone?
Syncing the iPad or your iPhone with iTunes on your Mac does not transfer or import photos from Camera Roll on each device. Photos and videos in the Camera Roll on each device can be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. With a Mac that can be with iPhoto or with the Image Capture application.

  • HT4890 Question regarding uploading photos from iphone to icloud

my photo's aren't uploading from my iphone to my icloud.  What am I doing wrong?  I've got photo stream ON on my iphone but when I open my icloud account I have no access to pictures.  Help!

I think you are confused between Photo Stream and iCloud backup, which are two different services.
iCloud backup will backup your entire device. You are not able to access this backup from a computer, it is only used to restore your phone to its previous state.
    iCloud backup and restore overview:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4859
Photo Stream is a syncing service which will sync all devices set up with your Apple ID. It will only sync photos from the last 30 days, and since Photo Stream was enabled. Photo Stream does not count towards your iCloud storage space.
    Photo Stream FAQ:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486
Older photos and videos will need to be transferred manually.
