Step by Step tutorial on Swing development using JDeveloper 11g

I am completely newbie on Jdeveloper and I am looking for a Step by Step tutorial on how to build a desktop database application using 11g version. I want to use the EJB3, Data binding and JPA and other new technology.
Could you please point me to the right direction. I have googled and most info I have seen are on web apps.
Greatly appreciated your assistance.

Hi,
ADF Swing is not yet ready for prime time in JDeveloper 11 technology preview. I suggest to have a look at 10.1.3.1 of JDeveloper and finish the following tutorial
http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe1013jdev/10131/adf%20swing/master_detail_page_adfswing_bc.htm
Frank
Ps.: You can also use 10.1.3.2 of JDeveloper

  • Future of Swing Developement in JDeveloper 11g  ?

The Swing part (in the preview) still is unfortunately far behind NetBeans (have a look at Version 6 M9 Matisse with JPA beans binding, not as good as ADF but...) and others, are there any plans to integrate Matisse and/or JSR 296 in the production release? Or is JSF the only technology on the gui layer that is pushed by Oracle in the future?
    What's with javaFX (F3)??
    best regards
    Charly

    Charly,
this first 11g technology preview reflects the bulk of the features in the UI clients areas that will be available in the initial 11.1.1.0.0 release when it goes production. I agree that the JDK 6.0 GroupLayout layout manager made popular by NetBean's Project "Matisse" GUI builder is a very interesting one from a developer productivity point of view -- it dupliates some of the productive layout "guides" ideas I believe first seen in the Visual Studio 2005 Windows Forms designer. We have our eye on supporting it in a subsequent 11g release. However, that support unfortunately won't make the initial production release of 11g. We also support the JSR 296 and are following it for including support in a future release, too. Regarding JavaFX (F3), just as you are this week, we're getting our first real look at what it means. I assume if it becomes a popular option it will be something to support for future JDev releases as well. We have significant 2/3-tier Swing data binding features that should fit in nicely with JavaFX, but it's honestly too early to say what our plans are there.
Of course we continue full support of our existing ADF Swing features (including the productive JGoodies FormLayout support we introduced in 10.1.3). We've added a few new interesting ADF Swing components as noted in the 11g "New Features" document, too, as well as rewritten the critically important ADF Business Components Browser testing tool using ADF Swing during this release as a showcase and testbed of ADF Swing functionality.
While from the new features list you can see we've improved features in many major feature area, in the "UI Clients" area much of the UI-related features in this initial 11g release are out of necessity centered around the significant declarative application development requirements put to us by our Oracle Fusion Applications teams (who are building front-ends using JSF Rich Client). We have thousands of internal apps developers, many of whom have already begun using early builds of our 11g technology platform for development of their next generation of Oracle Fusion Applications.
In this initial 11g release cycle, given these multitudinous requirements presented to us by our combined Oracle, Peoplesoft, Siebel, and JDEdwards teams, there was reduced bandwidth available for making significant enhancements to our other kinds of UI clients that we continue to support like Struts, ADF Swing, or Mobile clients.
This definitely does not mean there are not enhancements queued up, waiting to be implemented in future releases in these areas. Only that the initial 11g release doesn't have an "explosion" of new features in those areas.

There is no automatic way to do this in JDeveloper. I know there are some Oracle Partners offering forms to java conversion, I don't know how much of their tools are automated and done with JDeveloper. With JDeveloper+ADF you basically rewriting the Forms application from scratch (and using ADF is helpful during this process).

i dont think so any drawbacks using Jdeveloper with any database.....its a open product ... You can use it with Sybase, MySQL, Oracle etc etc..

  • Problem in accessing Web Services developed using JDeveloper 10.1.3

We have developed J2EE 1.4 JAX RPC Web Services using Jdeveloper 10.1.3.
I take the WSDL document generated by JDev and created Web Proxy for that WSDL.
I have developed the Swing Client for accessing the Web Service and when i tried to run from JDev it is working fine.
My requirement is to access the swing client from Java Web start.
When i tried to run from Web start, I am getting the following exception.

I am also having the same problem. Calling a web service inside JDeveloper 10.1.3.3 works fine. When I deploy to a jar file and include all Jars that the dependency analyzer identifies, the following error occurs:
standard type mapping initialization error: javax.xml.rpc.JAXRPCException: javax
.xml.soap.SOAPException: Unable to create SOAP Factory: Provider com.sun.xml.messaging.saaj.soap.ver1_1.SOAPFactory1_1Impl not found
Your work around defining Java system properties does work, but why do we need to do this using the Oracle SOAP stack?
If there are alternatives to this problem please share. Thank you.

  • Is there any tutorial for jms development with jdeveloper out there ?

    Hi
Thank you for reading my post
is there any tutorial which show us how to use jdeveloper +oc4j for JMS stuff ?
I mean an end 2 end tutorial to build mdb+jms resources in oc4j + client
it will be far better if the tutorial shows how we can use jdeveloper features for this task (if it provide any wizard...)

  • JCA DBAdapter configuration using JDeveloper 11g

    hello,
I cannot create correct wsdl files for the jca WSDL-based business service :-(
I try to use JCA dbAdapter in OSB 10.3.1
    following guideliness from
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13159_01/osb/docs10gr3/jcatransport/transport.html
    and
OSB DBAdapter Demo (but it refers to JDev 10gR3 :-( which allows creation of DBAdapter component)
in Jdev 11g, I can create such components only inside SOA project
and no bindings are generated inside the wsdl (they are in composite.xml)
is there a way to automatically use the wizard to create the correct wsdl (or I have to write it on my own)
    thanx in advance
    regards

    Hi Yannis,
You can use the DB Adapter created with JDeveloper 11g on OSB 11g.
The only difference from OSB/JDev 10g is that you will import a JCA file (along with WSDL and its dependencies) from JDev 11g into OSB 11g.
Then you just need to right click on the JCA file and select 'Oracle Service Bus / Generate Service' and OEPE will automatically create the business service and the respective wsdl.
    Hope it helps.

  • OA Framework using JDeveloper 11g

    Hi,
I am a newbie to OA Framework. Is it possible to use Oracle JDeveloper 11g to create OA Framework pages for 11.5.10 (RUP6) ? If yes, how ?
(I know it can be done using JDeveloper 9i).

  • Application Development using Jdeveloper using Oracle Lite

    Hi all,
I need to develop an application that works with the oracle database lite technology.
Ritght now I am working on some 10 tables .The Scenario is like the application developed is deployed on the middle tier and the user downloads it and goes offline. And he uses the application offline with the same tables present (that are used in developing the application) in another database present on the user machine . I have gone through the ADF BC tutorials but I couldn’t figure out whether the business components (view objects, entity objects) that are created by using tables (connecting to a particular schema in the database) can work if the schema changes(coz I tried doing that and faced errors that connection to database couldn’t be established ). I think this might be because the schema has changed.
Does this Business components created work if the database schema changes?
Is it possible to develop an application using java swing that works on the oracle database lite? I need a standalone Windows 32 application to be developed.
    Thanks in advance

Let's assume you have two database schema USER1 and USER2
And let's assume that USER2 grants the appropriate privileges so that USER1 can see his tables.
If you connect as USER1 in JDeveloper and create an entity object based on a table USER2.SOMETABLE, then the SomeTable entity object will remember the USER2 schema name as part of the table name.
If instead if USER1 creates an entity object against a table in his own USER1 schema, then the entity object will only record the "TABLENAME" in the entity metadata, without a schema qualifier. In this case, if you connect to a different schema at runtime which still has the expected TABLENAME table in it, then it will work fine.
Generally you would want to use an entity based on a synonym instead of an entity based directly on a SCHEMANAME.TABLENAME so that it wouldn't matter if the schema changed.
Yes, you can build Swing, JSF, or JSP applications against Oracle Lite using ADF BC.

  • Can't create table - using JDeveloper 11g (11.1.1.3.0)

I am running a DDL to create a table:
    CREATE TABLE HORSE
    HORSE_NAME VARCHAR2(30) NOT NULL
    , PLACE VARCHAR2(20)
    , RACE_NAME VARCHAR2(30)
    , RACE_DATE DATE
    , CONSTRAINT HORSE_PK PRIMARY KEY
    HORSE_NAME
    ENABLE
    The message I get is:
    Error at Command Line:48 Column:13
    Error report:
SQL Error: ORA-02264: name already used by an existing constraint
02264. 00000 - "name already used by an existing constraint"
*Cause:    The specified constraint name has to be unique.
*Action:   Specify a unique constraint name for the constraint.
This suggests to me that I should change the name to something else, like HORSE_ID. Whilst I don't agree that HORSE_NAME is used in another constraint I have changed the name but it doesn't make a scrap of difference.
There is another parallel table called HORSES (plural) but but other examples ( eg PUNTER/PUNTERS) have been happily created.
I would be grateful for any suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Jim

The message is not specifically about the HORSE_NAME - it is more likely about the table name.
You probably already have another database object called Horse (maybe not a table but it could be a view or a procedure).
Try a different name for the table.

What should i change to make it work with the MSSQLServer 2000 database?
Could anyone help me with this problem?
    Thanx!!

    Hi,
I don't know the example but maybe I can give you some hints though. Your stacktrace doesn't look to be related to a datasource issue. So I see two questions:
    1) What's about the error?
    2) How to change the datasource from Oracle to MS SQLServer 2000?
Hope you didn't start at the end of the tutorial! ;-)
    1)
The client tries to connect to the RMI-port of an OC4J instance to do some JNDI lookups, but cannot connect to the server socket.
    Some questions:
Is your OC4J instance up and running BEFORE you start the client?
    If you answer with yes:
Which port does the RMI server listen on? (netstat -a)
Is this port the same the client tries to use?
    If you answer with yes:
Do you connect locally or via a network (do you use a firewall)?
    2) The steps should include:
    a) Create the database schema in SQLServer (this might include a conversion of ORACLE specific SQL to SQLServer specific syntax, Sequences and stuff like that)
    b) Add the correct JDBC.Driver to your project
    c) Create and test the datasource (try to use JDev)
    d) Make sure that the EJB3 persistence implementation of OC4J (toplink) does support all necessary features of the MS Database. For example I'm not sure if native db sequences are supported for other RDBMS than Oracle. Don't know if you need them for your example
In theory this should all be quite simple and you don't have to write db specific code. ;-)
Hope this helps. If not, please ask more specifically!
    Regards,
    Eric

There isn't an end to end tutorial with the stack you are looking at, but:L
You can start with this tutorial that uses EclipseLink for JPA to build the model layer:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe11jdev/ps1/ejb/ejb.html
Here is a little example of how you can use Trinidad components (open source) in JDeveloper 11g for visual JSF development:
    http://blogs.oracle.com/shay/2009/02/using_trinidad_in_jdeveloper_1.html
using MySQL would just mean adding the MySQL JDBC driver to JDeveloper, and to the integrated WebLogic - like this:
