Steps for building SCOM infrastructure in Windows Azure for monitoring on-premise services ?

Is there a good technical document which clearly detail the steps required to build a SCOM management group in Windows Azure ?  I will be using it to monitoring on premise services.  I want the entire management group in Azure with SCOM gateways
at the remote sites.
Thanks in advance.

  • Can SCOM 2012 be placed into Windows Azure to monitor on premise services ?

We are wanting to relocate our SCOM management group into the cloud.  The SCOM management group is used to monitor multiple forests in multiple locations using SCOM gateways.  Firstly is this supported ?  has anyone in the community experience
of running SCOM in Azure ?  To confirm I am not referring to SCOM in the cloud to manage services in the cloud.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Building the best CS5 Windows machine for $3000

    Background:
I have CS4 Master Collection and run it on a dual boot XP64 and XP32 machine.  I have the dual boot because I cannot get PPro CS4 to work at all on XP64.  I know, it is not supported.  I have been using Premiere since Version 6 I think.  And of all of the Adobe programs that I use, Premiere (and PPRO) have always been to most troublesome for me.  So this time, I'd like to get some assistance from all of you "hardware gurus" out there who can offer advice and help me get the most bang for my budget and deliver a reliable system for PPro CS5 and the other CS5 programs that I will use.  It may be too early to give great advice at this time since the final versions have not be released.  But maybe someone who has had a pre-released version could help now?  Although I use many of the CS series programs, I pose the question in this forum since PPro has always been the program that has taxed my systems the most and would most often fail.
My uses for the Create Suite:
I am primarily a photographer.  So I use Lightroom 2 (will upgrade to LR3) and Photoshop more than any other programs.  I do extensive editing / retouching of my photos and use many plug-ins.  I also design high end coffee-table books using these tools.   However, I do still do some video editing and high-end compositing using Premiere Pro (mostly still CS3) and After Effects CS4.   I would do more NLE work if PPRo worked better for me.  I need the ability to edit at most three layers of 720P video, mostly acquired by D-SLR's.  I also need to edit standard DV footage.  I tend to use a lot of effects, including 3rd party effects (I am not sure how/if they will work anymore on a 64 bit program?).  I do pretty advanced compositing in AE and customize a lot of AE purchased projects with lots of 3rd party effects (such as the Trapcode suite).  I export video for the web, DVD, and Blu-Ray and hopefully cell phone and other devises down the road.
    Reusable Hardware:
As long as I can still use SATA 3 7200rpm hard drives, I think that I have all of the hard drives that I need.  I also have two 24" DVI monitors that I do not need to replace at this time.  I have a 285 nvidia card, which I believe is the low end of the Mercury line that I can use?  I have a blu-ray burner.  Although I have never built a Windows 7 machine in the past, I think that I should have the ability to assemble the components and install the OS myself.
    Hardware Needed
Given the above, does anyone have any good suggestions for what system or components that I should buy given my budget?  I will definitely need:
Case, Power Supply, Motherboard, Memory, CPU(s), OS (Win 7 64?), ???
    Specific Requirements:
Case:  I can go with a large workstation case or even rack mounted version (I have a standard rack).  Since workstation cases are usually less expensive, I am fine with going this route.  The case should have good air flow and needs to have at least 2 5" bays (3 would be better).  It should be easy to install internal drives into using some sort of sliding rail system like most nice cases have these days.
Motherboard:  I would prefer to have an on-board SATA RAID controller to run Mirroring on my OS Drive(s).  I would like to have at least 6 SATA connectors for , 2 OS drives, 3 DATA drive, 1 Optical Drive.  It should have ample USB2 connectors.  It would be nice to have firewire 400 and 800 too.  PCIexpress Expansion slots for at least one video card and possibly a capture card would also be nice.  A PCI-X 64  bit slot would be nice (I have a AJA card currently unused)  legacy PCI-32 slot as well, especially if it does not have an external firewire connection.  It could have one or two processor connections depending on what I can afford with my budget.  I'd like the board to support at least 16GB of memory, if not 32GB.  I may not be able to afford this much memory at this time, but I'd like this ability for down the road.
If I need to provide more information in order for you to help me, please let me know.  If anyone would like to provide help given my requirements, I would appreciate it.  Thanks in advance!

i only mentioned the EVGA for a DUAL Xeon....  not for a single
my prior experiance with EVGA was not a good one with concern for adding PCI/PCIe cards like raid (intel, Areca,) capture (decklink, Aja)
on the X58 but this was at release time of the X58 which was well over a yr ago now.
they may have fixed the issues. many other boards had this same issue like Intel and Foxconn (who makes Intel)
the Intel board was the worst, even adding a Firewire card would cause it to not boot or blue screen never mind it couldnt work with Intels own raid cards LOL...
i only mentioned EVGA for Dual Xeon as its the only one with overclocking ability and with the ram being locked down @ 1066 i was getting ticked
off at Tyan and Intel. where we could run 1333 previously with the X55xx series.
i think Eric said a bios change has fixed that again however so... Tyan is still what we use for now..or the higher end Intel board.
i have not yet played with the EVGA Xeon board so please do not take this as a recommendation...
on the other hand i despise Super Micro.
as far as the Ram, Harm and a few other seem to like the OCZ. i have had a lot of issues with OCZ.
however it cant be all blamed on OCZ. in all the yrs doing this i have never seen so many ram timing issues in my life.
i use Mushkin redline 1600(7-8-7-24) for overclocking and blackline (8-8-8-24) for non. and the other i like is Corsair.
but even those can have issues with certain boards bios'
its all about how the modules are "tatooed" and how well the XMP profiles are programed!
but it also has to do with the Mobo's bios
its quite a balancing act now with the low voltage (1.5 or 1.65) ram and filling all the slots.
ACPI also has a hand in controlling timings based simply on heat and or voltage use.
so a good board with good voltage control is required.
kinda funny about 4 yrs ago i remember telling my employees, "building systems is starting to get like legos, snap and go. we may be out of jobs here soon"
things were getting easy and everything just worked.
its worse now than ever before.
i dread every new release of a chipset anymore.....

  • How to upload image in windows azure mobile service from android?

I am new in android I am using windows azure mobile service and I am Inserting Text data successfully but now I want to Upload Image in windows azure mobile service. I know its is possible by Azure Storage I have seen this chrisrisner post but
its confusing can anyone tell me simple step by step process to save image in windows azure mobile service.
I will be Very Grateful for you. its very urgent

    Hello Nitesh,
Saving an image into Azure Mobile Services doesn't scale very well and it's not recommended. It's recommended to use Azure Blob Storage for blob storage. It's cheaper and can store larger files.
You can definitely use both Azure Mobile Services and Blob Storage together by saving the name of the image in your Mobile Services table and storing the actual file in the Blob storage. This way when you need to retrieve the actual image, you would retrieve
it by it's name from Blob storage.
Here's a MSDN article that explains how to use
    Azure Blob Storage.
Let me know if this helps.

  • Settup DNS in Windows Azure

Has anyone setup DNS in windows Azure? I am thinking abut moving over to the Azure and i am not seeing anything about settup DNS. CAn some direct me to any documentation

You mean hosting your DNS server in Windows Azure?
Simply put its not doable right now and I'd be curious what your objectives for this would be. Windows Azure is a Platform as a Service offering. Essentially, its a place for you to host applications and provides tools and services to help make them scalable
    and highly available.
If you're trying to move your current on-premises infrastructure to the cloud, you'll want to look into an Infrastructure as a Service offering like those offered by Amazon's EC2 and Rackspace solutions.
if you simply mean setting up a custom domain name to point at Windows Azure hosted services, I
recommend you refer to this post by Steve Marx.

  • Windows Azure helps power fast online multiscanner

Pretty cool piece of news, Metascan Online, a cloud-based multi-scanning solution that utilizes Windows Azure for hosting capabilities, has announced millions of available malware hashes.
Since Windows Azure hosts some of Metascan Online's infrastructure, it's made it easier for users of Metascan Online to instantly retrieve millions of file scan results from 40 commercial anti-malware engines.

  • SharePoint BI in Windows Azure

    Dear all
I have setup a BI demo environment on Windows Azure to show PowerPivot, PerformancePoint Services, and Power View. The demo environment include 3 VMs: DC, SQL 2012 SP1, and SharePoint 2013.
Every demo works fine when I use IE inside SharePoint VM. Then I creat a HTTP endpoint for the SharePoint VM on Windows Azure.
Now I can use IE to browse my SharePoint site from my laptop, and PerformancePoint Services works fine.
But when I click excel workbook from PowerPivot Gallery, the Excel Services raise an error shown as below:
    Unable to Open the file
We couldn't find the file you wanted.
It's possible the file was renamed, moved or deleted.
besides that, if I click the Power View icon, IE will show the following error:
    Sorry,
    something went wrong
    The Web application at
    http://xxxxx.cloudapp.net/PowerPivot%20Gallery/BI.xlsx could not be found.
Verify that you have typed the URL correctly. If the URL should be serving
existing content, the system administrator may need to add a new request URL
    mapping to the intended application.
    How to solve thie problem?
    Thank you.

    Hi  Bird007,
According to your error message, it says the web application  could not be found. The issue can caused by alternate access mappings for the web application.
Please verify that the site works correct in a browser and double check that the server is correct registered in the AAM settings

  • Encore CS5 has started freezing on "Preparing project for build..." in disk burn attempt

After routinely burning DVDs with Encore CS5, the program has started freezing after I choose my settings and click "BUILD" on a window that reads, "Preparing project for build..."
I checked for solutions online and read about problems with Quicktime versions after 7.5.5.  So I uninstalled Quicktime and installed the 7.5.5 version.  Still had problem.
I reinstalled Encore.  Still had problem.
Further research suggested I install the Roxio patch
PX Engine 4.18.16a   I installed the patch.  Still had problem.
I reinstalled the latest version of Quicktime v 7.7.4  Still had problem
On my desktop computer, I'm running
    Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit
    Intel i7 CPU  930 @ 2.80Ghz 2.80Ghz
    24 GB RAM
    nvidia Quadro GX 4800
Raid config on my data drives
Luckily, I also have Encore loaded as a part of the CS5 suite on a laptop computer, so I transfered the project files to the laptop, which burned the program without a problem.  This tells me the problem is with the program on my desktop and now with the project files.

I'd appreciate any suggestions about how to get my desktop to again burn DVDs in encore.
Message was edited by: Dan 101 Just realized that when I reinstalled Encore, I got a message that instructed me to shut down two processes. One was related to Encore, the other was something like dynamiclink.exe. I couldn't find any such process running when I checked the Task Manager, so I couldn't shut it down before I continued with the installation.  Could this be related to the issue?

I am not using any quicktime files.  I started with 1920 x 1080p avi files to build a number of Permiere projects (one for each chapter of a 50 minute DVD, then converted these segments into H.264 files, (with an .mp4 extension) and built a master Premiere project.  I used H.264 files because it seemed the best option to keep the quality as high as possible before converting to m2v files.  Then I converted the master Premiere project into  m2v and wav files which are being used by Encore.  Should I convert the individual projects into another format (rather than H.264) to build the master project?  Does Encore look at the files converted to m2v from  mp4 as Quicktime files?  Could I avoid this by converting to Microsoft AVI or Uncompressed Microsoft AVI to buld my master project?  I didn't built the entire project into one master premiere project from the start because I was concerned it would be too complex with all the elements and tracks.
Now I can work with Encore and burn files, but the Encore program routinely freezes after I burn a disk.  The Quicktime thing is a puzzle, especially because I stopped getting the freeze when attempting to burn disks after I reinstalled Quicktime 7.6.5. I was trying a number of things and kept a log.  Now I'm trying to figure out why the program freezes after a disk has burned. I turned off Windows DVD Maker, Windows Media Center, and Windows Media Player, rebooted and turned the features on again, but that didn't seem to have an impact.  Also, when I attempt to make changes to a subtitle track, I see the changes in the subtitle track, but they don't appear in the burned disk -- unless I delete a subtitle and recreate it.
Does the Roxio PX engine have any bearing on this?

  • How to fully backup virtual machines in Windows Azure

For those of you like me using the 90-day trial package of Windows Azure for testing purpose before moving on to the cloud, I want to backup all virtual machines unless my account will be disabled if it reaches spending limit. Recently another account
has been disabled so all virtual machines I created are removed. I've heard of the approach used to export virtual machines.

    Hi Thuan,
When you hit the spending limit on a trail subscription, or an MSDN subscription with monthly limits, while it looks like your VMs are removed, the VHDs for those VMs still exist in your storage account and you can create VMs from them again when you enable
your subscription again (convert to pay-as-you-go, or wait for the next billing cycle in the case of subscriptions with on-going monthly limits).
Because of that, it isn't necessary to back them up relevant to the spending limit being hit.
And note that backing them up outside of Azure would incur egress fees which would cause you to hit your spending limit more quickly.
While it can be simpler to configure everything from scratch from new VMs created in Azure, another approach would be to configure them on-premises in Hyper-V, then upload them as either disks (to use for a single VM in Azure) or as images (generalized with
sysprep to use as a base template for multiple VMs). That way you already have a backup of the VHD in the copy you have on-premises. And, since inbound traffic is free, you don't have the same issue of hitting your spending limit more quickly (there will be
some outbound when doing an upload, but very little in comparison to a download).
    Thanks,
    Craig

    Hi,
Please check if there is any monitor/rule is disable by default for Azure DB.
You can look for the keyword like Azure in Authoring Tab>Management Pack Objects>Monitors\Rules.

  • Error while updating a custom Windows Azure Diagnostics configuration xml from powershell. "Invalid update to extension reference for role"

I am attempting to upload a manually edited WADConfig xml to my VM. The WAD service is functioning correctly, I needed to add some custom WinEventLogs. The prescribed steps result in an error.
    What am I overlooking?
    I am following these instructions:
Step 5: Remotely install Diagnostics on your Azure Virtual Machine
    azure.microsoft.com/en-in/documentation/articles/cloud-services-dotnet-diagnostics/#virtual-machine
    $storage_name = "wadexamplevm"
    $key = "<StorageAccountKey>"
    $config_path="c:\users\<user>\documents\visual studio 2013\Projects\WadExampleVM\WadExampleVM\WadExample.xml"
    $service_name="wadexamplevm"
    $vm_name="WadExample"
    $storageContext = New-AzureStorageContext
    -StorageAccountName $storage_name -StorageAccountKey $key
    $VM1 = Get-AzureVM
    -ServiceName $service_name -Name $vm_name
    $VM2 = Set-AzureVMDiagnosticsExtension
    -DiagnosticsConfigurationPath $config_path
    -Version "1.*"
    -VM $VM1 -StorageContext $storageContext
    $VM3 = Update-AzureVM
    -ServiceName $service_name -Name $vm_name
    -VM $VM2.VM
Unfortunately, I am receiving this error:
Update-AzureVM : BadRequest: Invalid update to extension reference for role: XXXXXX and reference: IaaSDiagnostics.
What's missing from the above script?

    Hi,
Since Azure SDK 2.5 uses the extension model the diagnostics extension, the configuration and the connection string to the diagnostic storage are no longer part of the deployment package and cscfg. All the diagnostics configuration is contained within the
wadcfgx. The advantage with this approach is that diagnostics agent and settings are decoupled from the project and can be dynamically enabled and updated even after your application is deployed.
Due to this change some existing workflows need to be rethought – instead of configuring the diagnostics as part of the application that gets deployed to each environment you can first deploy the application to the environment and then apply the diagnostics
configuration for it.  When you publish the application from Visual Studio this process is done automatically for you. However if you were deploying your application outside of VS using PowerShell then you have to install the extension separately through
    PowerShell.
There PowerShell cmdlets for managing the diagnostics extensions on a Cloud Service are -
    Set-AzureServiceDiagnosticsExtension
    Get-AzureServiceDiagnosticsExtension
    Remove-AzureServiceDiagnosticsExtension
You can use the Set-AzureServiceDiagnosticsExtension method to enable diagnostics extension on a cloud service. One of the parameters on this cmdlet is the XML configuration file. This file is slightly different from the diagnostics.wadcfgx file. You can
create this file from scratch by either following the article that you are referring to or  you can modify the wadcfgx file and pass in the modified file as a parameter to the powershell cmdlet.
To modify the wadcfgx file –
    Make a copy the .wadcfgx.
Remove the following elements from the Copy:
    <DiagnosticsConfiguration xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ServiceHosting/2010/10/DiagnosticsConfiguration">
       <PrivateConfig xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ServiceHosting/2010/10/DiagnosticsConfiguration">
         <StorageAccount name=" " endpoint="https://core.windows.net/" />
       </PrivateConfig>
       <IsEnabled>false</IsEnabled>
    </DiagnosticsConfiguration>
Make sure the top of the file still has xml version and encoding –
       <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
Effectively you are stripping down the Wadcfgx to only contain the <PublicConfig> section and the <?xml> header. You can then call the PowerShell cmdlet along with the appropriate parameters for the staging slots and roles:
    $storage_name = ‘
    <storagename>’
    $key= ‘<key>’
    $service_name = '<servicename>'
    $public_config = '<thepublicconfigfrom_diagnostics.wadcfgx>'
    $storageContext = New-AzureStorageContext –StorageAccountName $storage_name –StorageAccountKey $key
    Set-AzureServiceDiagnosticsExtension -StorageContext $storageContext -DiagnosticsConfigurationPath $public_config –ServiceName $service_name -Slot ‘Staging’ -Role ‘WebRole1’
    Hope this helps !
    Regards,
    Sowmya
