Steps for using .wmv file in FCE

I have used FCE to edit files captured on my camera for a while now. But I was sent a DVD with an .wmv I would like to edit in FCE. I have never done this, and really need a very basic, step by step directions for how to convert this file for use in FCE. Please walk me through the conversion and import into FCE processes. Thank you in advance.

I agree - if all you need to do it access the file and convert it to something else, PlayerPro will be good. I have one of the higher versions (Studio), which has additional presets for saving content TO an WMV, but as you just need to convert FROM it, PlayerPro is all you need.
After installing, you'll be able to open the wmv in the QuickTime Player and export as a file that FCE edits natively. For example, is this a standard-def file? If so, then you'll want to export as a QuickTime Movie with the video settings set to "DV/DVCPRO - NTSC". Then you can import it into FCE and it will treat the clip as if you had captured it from your camera.

Importing .wmv Files Into FCE Using ffmpegX ??????

Was it a dream?
A month or so ago I converted some .wmv files to use in FCE and iMovie.
I am absolutely certain that I used ffmpegX.
Yesterday I tried to convert some more but couldn't! I tried every possible format setting I could find - but no luck.
Did I dream it? The wmv/FCE/iMovie movies are there for all to see.
The only other conversion programs I have are HandBrake and Toast but I am sure I didn't use those.
Any ideas?

flip for mac is a quicktime plug that works in all qt based applications. with it, you can open a wmv in quicktime and export it as a .mov
While I use it the other way round, to export wmv's for the web it will do what you want.
be aware that wmv is a highly compressed format and transcoding it, even to a higher size file for example dv will look horrible.
wmv is meant to be a delivery codec, not an editable one.

I'd like to bring in some wmv files into a sequence in FCE. Of course this format is not directly supported. i'm having a rough time finding a third party app to use on my mac that would convert wmv files into something importable such as .mov. Any suggestions? Thanks.

What are basic steps for using Handbrake ripping software?

I free downloaded Handbrake 0.8.0b1 to my 10.4.9 Mac OSX intending to download a DVD of home 8mm movies, that had been compiled by comm. photo shop, so that I could use iMovie & iDVD programmes to create new DVDs of segments of the 8mm movies. Can't find basic instructions on how to run Handbrake. When I open it the menu is mostly greyed out, so I have little or no choice. Tried downloading parts of the DVD several times, and only once did it register a file (in desktop) which I was able to open. I subsequently lost that by trying to move its destination. Other times a destination for the download is shown in the menu, (greyed out) but it isn't registered anywhere on the hard drive, nor shown on the desktop. So I would appreciate learning the elementary abc's of the steps to use that software.

Using PDF Files in FCE HD

I am editing a presentation for a construction company using a lot of floor plan overviews and then zooming from room to room as they present. They have been giving me PDF files to use. Per there request I had to clean up some items (I used Illustrator CS3) they didn't want. I tested just one PDF file in FCE before I got any deeper into the project and when I zoom in(I need to zoom in quite a bit to show individual sections of this floor plan) the text and images on the file lose their sharpness. Is there a certain file size I should be starting at or do I need to change the file from a PDF to some other format? Oh and the video is not HD.
Any help would be great.

Depending on the size of the most zoomed in section start with an image size three or four times the DV frame size so you never have to scale up the image.

How to use WMV files in Imovie?

I have a bunch of WMV files from Windows that I would like to use in iMovie. But, it keeps telling me they have to be .avi files in order to be used in iMovie. If someone could please advise how to convert these windows files to usable iMovie files that would be greatly appreciated.

Use MPEG Streamclip to convert them to DV. This may require purchasing Flip4Mac.

Using .mov files in FCE

I am converting my old Super8 and 16mm film for use with digital video editing software. The lab has told me they can deliver a compressed file in the .mov format. What are the benefits of this file and should I look into any other formats?

If you are editing the material using iMovie, .dv will work.
If you are editing in Final Cut Express or Pro, you'll want DV/NTSC Quicktime (mov) files.

Steps for using interface IF_FPM_CNR_GAF for SRM enhancement

Dear forum members,
I am an SRM consultant and want to change the toolbar labels for some buttons in the FPM.
SRM uses a GAF FPM and I need to know how to implement a supported enhancement to change the label of the 'Save' button to 'Hold' for some applications only.
Can someone please provide detailed steps for me to be able to achieve this?
I have found the following, but it is not detailed enough for me:

In webdynpro i would have done this with out any problem. For example
-FPM_TEST_NAVIGATION component.
-Select this component->controller->enhance
-fill in the enhancement details in a popup -> i use the ZZSBN_TEST_IMPL3 as enhancement implementation , fill in short text and press enter.
-Fill in the transport data (i choose local object ).
-close (f3) , go back to the package/local user->local object in object naviagtor->select enhancement-> choose enhancement implementation(i slect ZZSBN_TEST_IMPL3)
-travel through the node until you reach the a method where you want to enhance.(i choose COMPONENTCONTROLLER)
-Choose controller(top left)->enhance->popup->choose ZZSBN_TEST_IMPL3(select this line).
-You see the right side pane status "Enhanc.inactive" ,pre exit,post exit,overwite buttons with delete icon (ignore this part )
- select a method (PROCESS_BEFORE_OUTPUT)->use bottom scroll bar to traverse right side until you see enahncement buttons like pre,post,overwrite buttons in every cell.
- i choose a post-exit, method opens and the name is like this PSTD9IMD481CRS9OXKK1AZJR917J
- Here i write my logic to get the reference to the cnr_gaf and get_buttons.

On A Budget - Options for Using a File Server.

Hi - I have this relatively old 2008R2 file server (8GB memory and 25TB disk) I'd like to use as file storage for a SQL Server VM. The network is a 1GB switched configuration. The VM resides on relatively new hardware (Server 2012, SAS) but doesn't
have a lot of disk. I'd like to make a bunch of the file server space available for SQL Server Data (2008R2) - its a small network (10 users) that we want to load a bunch of glob data indexed by a few keywords as reference. Kind of like a
GIS database. My first thought is to create fixed vhdx file on the file server via Hyper-V manager, but this takes days to initialize for the size I'm thinking of (10TB). I created an expanding disk and it was pretty quick to create. I copied
a 4GB file over the net to the mounted (from the Hyper-V Host) vhdx file and it went pretty fast. I thought about using the iSCSI trick to attach it to the SQL VM (turning the file server into a SAN sort of?), but I'm wondering if this is overkill.
I'm just looking for a few suggestions. There is a lot of stuff out there, some of it conflicting, about storage configuration.

We might be able to convert the 2008 server to Windows 8. It doesn't really do anything besides file shares and security is not a concern as we are not connected. Is that an option? Win8 supports SMB 3 I understand.
Yes you can do that. But... Older desktop versions of Windows were limited on amount of TCP connections they could handle obviously affecting usability and performance as a server. Not sure what's accurate for Windows 8 as MSFT has been changing this policy
back and forth all the time )) Check within MSFT licensing specialists before you do that.
P.S. I'd spawn FreeBSD or openSUSE with a Samba instead of a desktop version of Windows OS being used as a file server. IMHO.

Is possible to use single 'Play Prompt' step to play a chain of .wav files on UCCX?
For example, have variable chain_audio that can contain different content length
ex:
chain_audio = "P[1.wav] P[2.wav] P[3.wav]"

I'm not sure it is possible to call and fill Create Container within Java code. It is possible to setup variables by hand in Create Container Prompt step, like in Play Prompt step.
Parse a String to Array and fill up Create Container Prompt with Array elements manually. In my example i have only 4 elements, but in real world i could have more than 15 elements.
I wish Play Prompt/Create Container was filled automatically with chain of audio files, because it is impossible to know the array size beforehand.

I dont have the BI installed, What are the pre-requisit for installaing and using Bobj with web intelegence and crystal report. Dose BI is must for bobj to work? It looks like you are new to BOBJ. BI is the service name and BOBJ is the product name in SAP.
Since you have not mentioned your version of BOBJ, I assume you are in the latest version...
To date, there is no direct connectivity available between ECC and BI 4.0 (current release of BOBJ).
You may need to use one of some of the following ways:
1. Using Plug and play Rapid marts (using Data Services)
2. Build your own custom marts (using Data Services)
3. Building SAP BW and using SAP integration kit
Having said, there is a plan for direct connectivity between SAP ECC and BI 4.0 in the upcoming enhancement to BI 4.0.

Using Mpeg2 files with FCE?

Hi all,
I have some mpeg 2 files that i want to load into FCE. I was told to convert the files with MPEG streamline first, by going to file, export to quicktime, choose Apple DV-Pal and then convert. Then i can import into FCE. I have done this and it works but just wondered if by doing this, do i lose quality or is it the same?? Also, MPEG streamline has an option to "export to DV..." Can i use this instead??

Whenever you convert anything you lose quality but in this case the loss should be minimal. That is why the ideal is to shoot everything in DV.
Regarding the DV option in Streamclip, I think it may be "DV Stream" which is used by iMovie and can't be used by FCE until it has had further rendering.
